The Boston beanheads are up in arms.
When it was learned on St. Patrick’s Day that Tom Brady was leaving the Belicheats, (Joe cannot take credit for the following but also cannot remember where he heard this one-liner), the reaction in Boston was like a child finding out Santa Claus died on Christmas.
You’ve seen how potty-mouth Vipers (RIP) fan and Boston sports apologist Katie Nolan reacted.
Dan Shaughnessy, long-time scribe of the Boston Globe, made an appearance on the “Jim Rome Show” to discuss Tom Brady coming to the Bucs.
In recent columns, Shaughnessy has made the case that the reason Brady signed with the Bucs is that Brady had no other options. Additionally, Shaughnessy noted no one who has another path would willingly play for the Bucs.
Everybody knows that nobody goes to Tampa if they have other options.
With all due respect to my good pal Wade Boggs, Tampa is the worst. It is professional sports Siberia. It is Jacksonville with better gentleman’s clubs.
Seriously. The Buccaneers are the losingest franchise in American major league sports. They have a lower lifetime winning percentage (.387) than any team in the NFL, NBA, NHL, or Major League Baseball. They define “losing culture.”
Now Joe is not going to bag on Shaughnessy. Joe has known the guy for decades and he did Joe a couple of big favors years ago that Joe will never forget. Shaughnessy is a class act. The column is a standard hit ’em low piece that papers do from time to time when they find their community on the short end of a stick (you usually see these columns when a local team is in a championship game).
It’s harmless, if not amusing.
(To be fair, Joe cannot provide a first-hand review of the clothing-optional establishments on either coast but will take Shaughnessy’s word for it.)
Shaughnessy claims because the Titans (boy, Joe would love to use the abbreviated word for Titans like how we refer to the Jaguars as the “Jags”) preferred Ryan Tannehill over Brady, and John Lynch and the 49ers turned their noses up on Brady, that his only suitor was Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians.

Tampa is a great “B” city. Not a “A” city. Not too small not too large. Great mid size city. Media that isn’t to harsh like real big citiy media hacks such as the Boston’s, nyc’s, la’s, or Chicago’s. Tampa’s beach’s, restaurants and way of life are far superior to Jville’s. Hopefully Tb12’s 2 years here are exiting and successful. Cause if not then Old man Bruce and Jason Gump gotta go!! Since Tom is in charge.

As a native Floridian who has lived both Tampa and Jacksonville, Tampa is nothing like Jacksonville (besides both being by bodies of water, an ocean and being cities in Florida). Tampa is miles better than Jax. It’s not even close or comparable.

I’ve lived in Bristol, Ct, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Orlando, FL, Oregon and Tampa Bay.
I prefer living in this area much more than the others.
Obviously, I like the Bucs better than New England. When I grew up in New England, I was actually a Dallas Cowboys fan. Half of the people who live in Connecticut like the New York teams.

I grew up in St.Pete/Tampa and I live in Jax now. Jax Beach is a ghetto. The NW side of town is a war zone comparable to Chicago in terms of gun violence. Hobos dominate the downtown riverfront. Biking and running is a death sentence as it’s not a pedestrian friendly are and there are no designated paved biking or running trails. If it wasn’t for my career I would leave tomorrow and return to the Tampa Bay Area.

Hey Dan, part of the reason that the sports culture is a problem here is that nearly every out of work, uneducated POS from New England moves here to file for disability, smoke weed and occasionally mow a lawn. Fortunately, they keep me employed because they make up about 50% of the people I send to prison.
No one moves to the Northeast because if you are not making an incredible amount of money, IT SUCKS TO LIVE THERE!

It’s a game we all play. At a Lightning Flyer game I was stuck next to some New Port Richey moron…is that redundant…see how I did that…I don’t make St Pete look any better by putting down NPR. He had only lived in NPR for five years so he felt the need to keep his Flyer fan card.
He’s ranking on the Lightning..a bad team at the time..as his Flyers built a multi goal lead in a contest that was never in doubt. As he gloated I said…OK dude..I give you scoreboard on the rink…but as far as cities you gotta give us scoreboard. Who the hell wants to live in Philadelphia? Why do all you mouthbreathers come here to drink our water…add to our traffic..and root against our sports teams. There is no mass exodus to stinking Philadelphia this is a one way stream of people FLEEING the hell hole of Philadelphia.

In a poll of OUR collective experience from Bucs, Rays and Lightning games how do we rank fans as being arseholes…sick game for sure but my experience is that Massholes and Philly fan tie..with Yankee fan close behind.

Sounds like Boston forgot what it was like when all their teams were pitiful. Like it was when I was a kid.
Good news is they are headed back there. Patriots are trending down hill and the red socks look like they are gonna struggle.
And crap like this is why other cities love to see places like Boston struggle. I will take literal joy in it.

The reason the Bucs are the “losingest” franchise in sports history has nothing to do with geographical location, it’s because the previous owner(Hugh Culverhouse) was so cheap it was said that he wouldn’t spend a dime to make a dollar.

I grew up in Boston before the Patriots were there and the “home team” on TV were the NY Giants. I followed them for years because the Patriots were pathetic and cheap for years.
I moved to Tampa Bay 22 years ago and found it way better than Baaaaston.

He’s spot on. I was born and raised in Tampa. No longer live here but I will always luv the TB area. We are one if not the Losingnist team in the NFL Maybe in all of sports history. I can see why everybody thinks Brady will be the savior. He won’t be but I get it. And we also have some great strip..I mean Gentlemens clubs. I’m not mad at him at all for sayin what he said. This Football franchise has been riddled and raped over and over again with countless mistakes. I do hope Brady will not be one of them. If he can stay healthy and that’s a big If..we have a 2yr window with the guy. That’s about all.

He’s right about the Bucs being a horrific franchise for most of their existence, but it’s still my team and I will defend them even if I am in the wrong. If he had any class he wouldn’t go pi$$ in his neighbors garden just because his dog passed away.

Until the early 2000’s the most descriptive word for Boston sports fans was “beleaguered”….they had the Celtics with loads of titles and that was kinda it. Then the Patriots dynasty began, the Red Sox won, the Celtics were revitalized and the Bruins won. Quite a good sporting run over the last 20 years.
The Bucs might have the lowest winning percentage in all of sports but at least they have a Super Bowl. That’s more than the Vikings or Bills or a few dozen other major “sports franchises without a title” can claim.

1st we had Culverhouse, who was cheaper than a Nebreska hooker. Then came Malcolm Glazer, who did build the team and we won the SB. But then came the Glazer boys, who made Culverhouse look like a free spender by cutting off all funds for the Bucs so they could buy and ruin a soccer team in England. So the bucs do have the losing-est record in pro sports. However, having been in both Tampa & Jax there is no comparison between the 2. Jax sucks. But I notice that the guy didn’t mention Boston, or the combat zone in Boston, or that you have to take a bank loan out each year just to pay property tax if you can even afford a home up there. In fact, Boston is known as taxechusetts And known for Whitey Bulger and the Irish Mafia. (to which Whitey was a rat that installed bugs for the FBI in NY). So Boston and that writer can suck down some drinks and consider their City for the dump that it is.

I did the calculations. If the Bucs go 16-0 this year that will raise them from .387 to .400 –and put them ahead of the Minnesota in the NBA who is next above us at .398.

formerly Tampa 2..You are spot on about Boston. I did a 2 yr stint at Ft Devens in the late 70’s. Went over to the Combat..I mean Boston zone quite a few times.Combat Zone was thriving back then. But parts of Boston are like 3rd world countires. And the cost of living is high. Kinda racist there too. Now them Nebraska hookers…

Tampa hasn’t had any problem attracting free agents over the years. Now, maybe they come here because they’re fine with losing, but it’s not like Tampa is the option they have.
The thing about SF is that they have a young Jimmy G. He still has a high ceiling. They’d have to trade him to make room for Brady, and I don’t think there’s a trade market for him. Cam and Jameis are still on the market, Andy Dalton hasn’t been traded even the Bengals want to move on from him. The QB market is too crowded, I doubt Lynch could trade Jimmy G even if he wanted to.
As for the Titans, who knows if Brady wanted to go there? Brady made a list of things he wanted for his next team, including coaches and players, then prioritized them. He wanted to get away from the Patriots, and Mike Vrabel is a Patriot. Not to mention, they don’t have the weapons we have. I wouldn’t assume the titans were even on the list

I live here and for many years have spent a lot of time in Jacksonville. The city is unique, because of the giant St Johns River and all of the estuaries the geographical nature of the place is split into multiple regions.
The Southside is very nice and the homes on the St Johns River are beautiful. The Northside from downtown to the airport isn’t nice at all. The EastSide is also not so great but there are some very cool places like San Marco and Riverside.
It just depends where you live there but overall the Tampa Bay region is more like a Florida City with lots of transplants. Jacksonville has a Southern Georgia feel too it. Older too
