Bucs best spot for Tom Brady.
The national hollering shows are still talking Bucs and Tom Brady.
Team Glazer couldn’t have scripted this any better in their dreams. And in a sad, sick way, it took a pandemic for the Bucs to absolutely dominate sports talk throughout the country for weeks (in a good way).
With the [national advertisers don’t like that word] virtually shutting down the world, including all sports at one of the busiest times on the sports calendar (baseball starting, March Madness, basketball and hockey playoffs getting revved up), there has been only two things for sports shows throughout the country to chatter about.
1) The NFL draft.
2) Tom Brady and the Bucs.
Over at FS1 last week, Shannon Sharpe and Skip Bayless of “Undisputed” fame, were trying to hash out the notion that Brady actually was recruiting Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht and Bucco Bruce Arians to sign him.
Sharpe believes that’s a no-brainer. Why? Sharpe always thought Brady would go to the team that gave him the best chance to win a Super Bowl and that wasn’t the Los Angeles Chargers, but the Bucs.
So Brady actively trying to sell himself to Arians and Licht made all the sense in the world to Sharpe.

…ad I literally think Brady was their only out from Winston. Had they gone with anyone else these hollering heads would be talking about the Bucs, and not in a good way.

When Tom Brady sold himself to the Bucs, I think he was signaling that he wanted one more challenge. He’s already in a very exclusive club: the ’40 and Over Club’. Quite a list of distinguished players, a number of whom are in the NFL Hall of Fame: https://www.profootballhof.com/football-history/40-and-over-club/
As I looked at the club’s members, the majority are kickers & punters, followed by QBs. A number of those BTW played for the Bucs at one point (Steve DeBerg, Vinny Testaverde, Brad Johnson plus now, Tom Brady). If Brady plays until he’s 45 as he’s said he wants to, he’ll be one of only EIGHT NFL players to ever make it to that point, and almost all of the others were kickers.
Matter of fact, Brady would be the ONLY player to actively play QB at that age (George Blanda played until age 48, but as a kicker). Now the Bucs have to protect him to make that happen.

This was a playoff team last year with a better QB (don’t give me the blame the kicker talk, if you’re blaming the kicker then there’s a bigger issue). With the GOAT and these weapons, and young defense on the rise, no reason to expect anything less than playoffs, with the belief that we can win the division. And once in the playoffs, well, that’s Brady’s time to shine.

I said it was once I’ll say it again, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers organization deserves Tom Brady, the fans deserve to have Tom Brady. It’s baffling why people think Tampa is a terrible franchise. It’s not. It’s just had some very bad luck. Tampa is a great city, the Bucs have always had the potential to be competitive, it’s a sham it took Tom Brady signing for everyone to see that but I’m glad people are opening their eyes. What we happens this upcoming season I hope the Bucs can gain some glory from all this. LFG

Brady and the Bucs will be top topic after the draft. There has been no better free agent signing in a very long time, like never. It might still be top story next season, it is that good.

Now you’re in my wheelhouse. Remember as a youth I was an AFC kinda kid…bombs away…and George Blanda was truly amazing.
You’re certainly correct that Blanda only lasted until 48 because of his kicking…one of the last straight ahead “American” style kickers before the little soccer kicking foreigners changed place kicking forever.
But perhaps ironically given TB12’s age..it was at the age of 43 that Blanda amazed us all. He had to fill in for “The Mad Bomber” Darryl Lamonica for a five game stretch hoping to keep the Raiders in the playoff hunt. Even back then nobody heard of a freaking kicker as a backup QB.
Against the Steelers, Blanda threw for three touchdowns. One week later, his 48-yard field goal with three seconds remaining salvaged a 17–17 tie with the Kansas City Chiefs. On November 8, he again came off the bench to throw a touchdown pass to tie the Cleveland Browns with 1:34 remaining, then kicked a 53-yard field goal with 0:03 left for the 23–20 win.
In the team’s next game, Blanda replaced Lamonica in the fourth quarter and connected with Fred Biletnikoff on a touchdown pass with 2:28 left in the game to defeat the Denver Broncos, 24–19. The following week, Blanda’s 16-yard field goal in the closing seconds defeated the San Diego Chargers, 20–17.
In the AFC title game against the Baltimore Colts, Blanda again relieved an injured Lamonica, completing 17 of 32 passes for 217 yards and 2 touchdowns while also kicking a 48-yard field goal and two extra points, keeping the Raiders in the game until the final quarter, when he was intercepted twice.
Even ending with those two ints I don’t know that I’ve ever seen anything more amazing that George Blanda’s 1970 season at age 43!

Agree with that. Bucs openly admitted Brady was Door No. 1. Teddy Bridgewater Door No. 2. Jameis was Door No. 3.
Don’t think it was a lock at all that Bridgewater would have come here. His old Saints QB coach took the OC job in Carolina. The two knew each other and worked well with each other.
So it came down to, if Brady didn’t sign the Bucs would have kept Jameis.

If the Bucs don’t make the playoffs the coaching staff starting with the head coach should all get the axe.
If they do make the playoffs anything less than participating in the NFC Championship game will be a let down but will give the coaching staff another year to at least get there.
Two year window to get to the Final 4.
No playoffs = the axe.

I also agree, and anytime you can sign the GOAT for Less Money than what Winston wanted, it is a No Brainer.
