Brady Sold Bucs To Sign Him
March 30th, 2020The rare times a player of Tom Brady’s stature is available as a free agent, usually it is the new teams that get on their hands and knees to beg the player to play for them.
The way Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht explained the process of wooing Brady earlier this month, it was as much if not more Brady selling the Bucs he was a good fit.
That’s what Licht hinted when he appeared this morning on “Stay in Bed,” seen weekday mornings on BSPN.
In a rare live TV appearance for Licht in the middle of draft season, he went over how the Bucs approached Brady and how Brady came at the Bucs.
“Two weeks ago today that the legal tampering started,” Licht began. “It seems like two months ago now. But when we made the first call at 12 o’clock and [Brady’s agent] said, ‘You made a good decision to call.’ We knew that we had a very good chance of getting him.”
So a few days later Brady and the Bucs had a marathon phone call that included Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians and Licht.
“As soon as Wednesday rolled around we were able to talk to Tom Brady,” Licht said. “We had a great conversation, Bruce and I. We talked to him for over an hour and a half.
“He made it clear in the conversation that he was very, very interested. It was almost like a recruitment on his part telling us why it would make sense for him to come to Tampa Bay. And the following day we signed him.”
To hear Licht explain it, it sounds as if Brady had done serious research on the Bucs before they spoke.
How wild is that?
Could it be simply that Brady drooled about the chance to throw footballs to Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Cam Brate and O.J. Howard? Seems that way to Joe.

Who wouldn’t want to play with our receivers
We have the best tandem in the league
March 30th, 2020 at 9:30 am
Tackle, safety, running back. If the Bucs get those 3 positions filled, they will definitely be in the playoffs, that is IF there is a football season at all!!!
March 30th, 2020 at 9:32 am
Yep we need two backs actually
Tackle and saftey to make a push

Destin my man, you took the words out of my mouth..when I was reading the article that’s exactly what I thought..when I went to the comments…you had beat me to it…lol
March 30th, 2020 at 9:32 am
Great story, this is not a cash grab. Brady is motivated to play!!!
March 30th, 2020 at 9:34 am
Destin my man, you took the words out of my mouth..when I was reading the article that’s exactly what I thought..when I went to the comments…you had beat me to it…lol…who doesn’t want to play with ME & CG..helloooo!
March 30th, 2020 at 9:38 am
I’m sure that Brady pursued & lured the Bucs into signing him. Sure he did. This article is quite insulting to Brady if read in that light.

“Who wanted and responsible of Brady in Tampa
Licht? Arians? LOL
The decision to bring Brady to Tampa is the Glasers
Wealth distribution and Hierarchy is
1- Glasers
2- Tom Brady
3- No one matters
What TB12 wants TB12 gets
Kobe Faker had a vision last night
Next year…
Josh Mcdaniels is coming to town”

Agreed, two all pro quality receivers to throw to is hard to beat. Brate is solid at worst, but I’m worried about Howard stepping up. Hopefully, he puts it all together this year.
March 30th, 2020 at 9:52 am
It is very important that we have a serviceable slot receiver much more so than a deep threat. Wish we had Humphries. Except for Godwin, none of our current receiving options are agile in tight spaces to get open with savvy.
March 30th, 2020 at 9:58 am
I think every QB would like to play in Arians offense, especially with these targets.
Brady was also impressed by the names on defense.
Lets face it, the thing that just absolutely killed the Bucs last season and doomed any playoff chances was 30 interceptions.
Next season Bucs will not have anywhere near that so we’ll see how far Mr. Brady can take them.
Plus, the culture change, mindset and attitude in the locker room will be totally different
March 30th, 2020 at 10:02 am
@brianbucs yeah the defense giving up historically bad numbers the first 10 games of the season ahd nothing to do with us losing. Jesus you trolls are so stupid. I bet when you stub your toe you blame jameis.
March 30th, 2020 at 10:07 am
Brady is going to prove that it was our receiving core that allowed Winston to tally the 5000 yards despite all the turnovers.
Brady may not reach 5000 yards this season, but not because he can’t but because he won’t have too. Unlike Mr. ATM who had to throw to catchup most the time because he put us behind.

Destin
Agree completely and I hope they are complementary to each other as well as ROJO.
Dillon figures big in my desires because he’s a 250lb bowling ball with reasonable speed 4.53 at the combine and I’ve seen him on video get behind the defense with no DB running him down from behind. He has soft hands.
Then an all purpose back like Akers or Edwards Helaire.
In terms of draft capital…I want to spend the #1 on the RT and then whatever it takes to get the two running backs with some budgeted for a safety.
March 30th, 2020 at 10:33 am
I think people saying he was past his expiration date ticked him off. Just like teams passing on him in the draft.
March 30th, 2020 at 10:34 am
he knew the talent that was being wasted on the other guy
March 30th, 2020 at 10:35 am
Joe, it surprises you Brady did his homework? That’s what the greats do. Being educated, and prepared, working hard. Brady didn’t become the GOAT by not doing his homework.
March 30th, 2020 at 10:43 am
May explain why the team re-did Brate’s contract. I had penciled Brate in as a cap casualty.
March 30th, 2020 at 10:46 am
One wonders how many eye-rolls Brady did while watching America’s Turnover Machine play abysmally poor, not seeing easy open completions, opting instead to throw into double and triple coverage, looking like an idiot out there.
But ballin’. I mean, “look at the sheets.”
March 30th, 2020 at 10:48 am
Kobe, I have to ask: what’s it like to be consistently wrong about everything you predict?
Do you have no pride?
March 30th, 2020 at 10:56 am
Every one will b e happy in tampa brady will thtow for 55hundred yards win mv p. Beat lamar. Or mahomes in super bowl easily and go 17wins 2loses on way to 7 lombardies. Thats a fact you will see
March 30th, 2020 at 10:57 am
Don’t forget that ever so sweet and tasty Glazer loot. The preferred loot of tree humping place kicker bullies everywhere
March 30th, 2020 at 11:12 am
Well he might have had to sell himself to the Bucs since the only other team that actually wanted him was the Chargers and they are out west. I mean he clearly didn’t want to go back to New England and he didn’t want to go out west so what other choices did he have? I mean if we said no I guess he might have gone back to New England or maybe he just retires. Not many teams lining up to put their future on the line for a 43 year old QB that has seen his numbers decline in each of the last four year’s. In fact the only ones that would were folks that are desperate and know that they are gone on two-three years anyways.
March 30th, 2020 at 11:23 am
“Yeah man it be great for me to come to Tampa with those receivers. Now on to the important part. Money.” -Tom Brady.
March 30th, 2020 at 12:39 pm
If brady goes down, This franchise will never recover. It will..after a major housecleaning. Better hope he can stay upright. And you’d better pray we get an experienced backup.
March 30th, 2020 at 1:13 pm
Could it be that when rumors about an O.J. trade to the Pats, TB started watching film of O.J. and said, if you can’t get em, go join em. I’m sure if the Pats were pushing for O.J., TB wanted to know a lil bit about the big fella.
March 30th, 2020 at 2:54 pm
“Seen his numbers decline”
Only numbers you need to worry about Ndog, are the numbers 3 out of the last five.
March 30th, 2020 at 3:44 pm
Ndog: Brady may have had three teams interested, but your guy Jameis Christ has none.
One wonders if the news the Bucs were going all-in for Brady scared some teams off, especially since the price tag was supposedly around $30 mil per year. How many teams had that kind of cheese available for QB?
March 30th, 2020 at 4:03 pm
All you need to worry about Jmarkbuc are all of those top 10 defenses he played with, EVERY YEAR HE WON. When is the last time we had a top 10 defense again?
Exactly so we better all hope we get the defense right really quick.
March 30th, 2020 at 4:05 pm
Yeah Cobra they probably said “man if the Bucs are going after him it must be a dumb move, we out!”
March 30th, 2020 at 4:12 pm
The reason we didn’t have a top 10 defense last year was because our QB was turning the ball over. Seriously, how can you Npuppy not figure that out?
March 30th, 2020 at 5:55 pm
Npuppy is getting all wound up about his boy J-booboo
It’s ok npuppy it’s not your fault… it’s a disability.
March 30th, 2020 at 10:28 pm
I bet Brady did have to convince teams he was really going to leave NE… until he did I never thought he would.
March 30th, 2020 at 10:41 pm
Shoot, the Bucs are on the top of every FA list. Who we kiddin?
March 31st, 2020 at 2:50 am
Theres a reason why every year for the last few years Tthe Patriots have been trying to trade us for Brate and/or OJ. Brady wanted to play with these tight ends one way or another. Beef that Oline up to protect him and we will make a deep playoff run. Go Bucs
March 31st, 2020 at 10:01 am
You see Ndog
I’m not the one who is worried…talk to your doctor…get a script for Xanax.
