“It’s Time To Go”
March 26th, 2020When Bucs left tackle Donovan Smith learned it wasn’t a dream that six-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady was his new quarterback, no one had to tell him what that meant.
“It’s time to go!” Smith said.
Smith did a sitdown by video with TMZ and spoke about his new teammate and the added responsibility he now has to protect a future Hall of Famer who is not as mobile as his predecessor.
“I had a coach tell me, ‘Pressure is a privilege,'” Smith said. “That just means my job is that more meaningful.”
Smith said with Brady at quarterback, his team can hang with all comers.
“I like my lineup against anyone,” Smith said. “We have a lot of pieces. It’s going to be fun.”
Smith grew up on Long Island before moving in high school to Maryland. So Smith grew up a Jets fan and for just about as long as Smith can remember, Brady has been dicing up his Jets twice a year.
Bygones are bygones, Smith joked.
“No bad blood,” Smith chuckled.

Geez big dog ….. what do you eat for breakfast Nails …. Kinda early to be chewing on his Arcee

I’m hoping that he blocks for Brady better than he did for Winston. Otherwise, our hopes for the playoffs could be dashed very quickly. Slightly above average players like Smith who have the potential to be very good or even great pi$$ me off more than any other type of player. Whether he’s just lazy, can’t focus properly, or all the praise that he has gotten for his “potential” is just bs. Maybe he finally becomes the guy lot’s of folks have said he can be this year.
March 26th, 2020 at 6:17 am
He will come in the best shape of of his life this year and have an even better year than last in fear of the wrath of Tom Brady. It’s concerning though that he isn’t more dominant in the running game given his size. I’d love to see us come out of this draft with 2 offensive linemen to really solidify the position and give us youthful depth so we can run some goalline or power running plays with 6 linemen and maybe even more VV back in there!

To piggy-back BigHog, he’s going to be held accountable for his play by Brady. Is Smith up for the challenge? He better clean up his play.

Didn’t think Donovan Smith could ever be a legit left tackle, but he proved me wrong last year. Definitely made the biggest improvement since he was a rookie. Excited to see him continue to grow with him protecting Brady.
March 26th, 2020 at 6:32 am
Smith obviously has not performed even in the top 80 percent of all NFL left tackles. But he’s still started, and you can’t move on in that position until someone better comes along. Maybe that’s this year in the draft, but Smith still probably needs to be here in one form or another, at least for now. But Tom Brady brings out the best in players on his team, they want to play FOR him as much as they would want to play for each other. That’s a dynamic they didn’t have with the last two years of the last QB for the Bucs–can’t recall the name. Not Fitz…the other guy.

Trade for Trent Williams.

if he could just hit everybody like he hit that cornerback peters in the endzone of the rams game last year…loved that wallop

“Stop jumping offsides.” I stopped reading after that..
March 26th, 2020 at 7:34 am
I think Brady will cause every player to step up their game…..especially his Oline.
Donovan Smith is so big and his style of play makes what he does look so easy it looks like he isn’t trying that hard but he is. He is the least of our problems…..we need to fix the RT spot and get a RB who can move the pile….
March 26th, 2020 at 7:58 am
TBBF … Agree 100%. Donovan is the least of our problems. Fix the OLine FIRST, then grab 1-2 quality RBs (right now we have RoJo, Ware & Dare under contract, plus TJ Logan for returns mostly).
Donovan’s statement that “I like my lineup against anyone. We have a lot of pieces” is interesting, especially for what it DOESN’T SAY. I wonder if he felt that same way last year, or the year before. Also wonder, especially after Shaq’s comments, how the rest of the TEAM is perceiving what they’re now a part of. There have been lots of ‘Dream Teams’ that’ve fallen flat on their face in the past, and some of these guys have been ‘beaten down’ over the years. I think all of them will see this as their best chance to run with the big dogs, and will most the most of this opportunity. Fairly small window (like probably this year & next?).
His statement about the lineup also got me thinking about what that lineup will probably look like. Really all we need is a few more pieces via free agency (backup veteran QB & Safety?) plus a good draft to fill in the holes. And maybe grabbing the Steelers’ Matt Feiler in FA for our RT (loved Geno711’s idea yesterday). $20 mil for 3 years is a steal (that’s what it’d take to best the Steelers 2nd Rnd tender) and we can just about afford that IMO.

Kind of sad he needed a new qb to get excited, apparently his fat paychecks for a half assed effort wasn’t enough for him.

Donovan Smith is a good dude. Would be fun to sit around over a beer with.
March 26th, 2020 at 10:28 am
The fact that you were getting paid to block should’ve made it time to go.
March 26th, 2020 at 10:28 am
Of course he will be able to block for Brady better. One, Brady gets the ball out faster and two, he won’t be running around back there, he will throw it away if nobody is open.

Gofortheface30/ you have rights and privileges in this country and I’m cool with that!!!

D Smith is a joke. Once a lazy ass always a lazy ass. One of the worse LT in the league last year. First time he gets TB sacked I’d bench his lazy ass. All that comes out of his mouth is BS.
March 26th, 2020 at 2:31 pm
@Adam I was at that Rams game and turned to my wife and said did you see that hit Smith laid on Peter’s? That showed me that the mean streak or dog as my coach use to say is there. It just needs to be brought out and hopefully it comes out and becomes the norm for him.

Sadly first impressions are the ones that last…sometimes incorrectly.
Donovan could become a Pro Bowler and people here would say it’s a popularity contest of find some way to diminish his achievement.
