Robert Kraft Reaches Out To Bucs Fans

Jeff Vinik isn’t the only billionaire writing fat checks to the Tampa Bay Times’ sinking newspaper operation.
It seems Robert Kraft really wants Tom Brady to have a happy ending in Tampa with the Buccaneers, presumably not at a strip mall.
Kraft purchased a full-page ad in today’s Tampa Bay Times wishing Brady well.
Joe read the message and it’s somewhat stunning to think about how much Kraft wanted to keep Brady but deferred to his head coach/general manager.
Joe wonders what Bucs history would look like if Raheem Morris was allowed to keep Derrick Brooks and/or veterans he wanted to retain in 2011, or if Greg Schiano had been allowed to launch Josh Freeman before it actually happened.

That is probably the most relevant ad the TBT has had in years.
Sorry to see them have to cut so many jobs this week. Not due to COVID-19, but has been coming for a long time due to their poor reporting and refusal to leave identify politics out of so much of what they write. They are down to charging basically nothing for electronic access, but a mint for hard copy ($1 for this rag is not worth it).
So this ad does class the page up a bit. Better and more robust coverage, of sports as well as news, would be a regional paper. Orlando Sentinel and TBT should merge. That would be good for sports teams too.

Brady = surgeon. JW = intern. Looking forward to some new hardware in the tropy case. I liked JW but just could not get past the inconsistent play (turnovers suck). Wish him luck. Some “wicked good” (get used to the lingo Buc fans) memories from JW but am pumped for the new season. Go Bucs!

Kraft is a genuine five star CEO. He created a corporate structure with a very clear chain of command. He was right to defer to Belichick. Whether Belichick made the correct decision won’t be known for awhile, but I’m sure glad he made it.

Mike Forio reporting that ‘Tom Brady didn’t ask for control over offense or roster authority’, proving once againd that a certain reporter in Tampa makes things up.
It was Diana Russini of ESPN who reported it. And Joe has no doubt that Brady having input was a part of the dialogue between the teams. You can cut up the semantics how you wish. –Joe

I get the feeling that New England would have gladly taken Brady back. But he wanted to move on. I think he saw the window shutting in New England. Especially on offense where they have had issues finding Championship caliber weapons around.
I’m quite certain Brady wanted to go somewhere that had a legit title shot and why he didn’t choose LA. Pretty carzy to think in the last year we had Bruce and Tom both choose Tampa Bay as the team they saw with Championship potential.

You don’t think any of the previous teams could have used your support and positive energy? No we will only for cheer for someone who has done absolutely nothing for us.
I actually feel bad for you people that are just now getting on board cause nothing NOTHING is like watching a team that stays together from the beginning grow and grow and develop THEN win it all. Don’t get me wrong if we win it all in the next two years it will be awesome but it will never feel like that first Superbowl cause those were our guys and always will be. Now that THAT was special, and you bandwagoners will never know what that feels like.

NDog……What you said does need to be said. Ray Jay will fill this year with a lot of pretender diehards……These fans were not there for us when we needed them is our darkest hours……..Not all but many of them are in fact, like you said, Fairweather bandwagoners.
But I will like to remind you that during this past lost decade of Bucs football we had many fans turn their backs on us. This caused a ripple effect of father’s not bringing sons……uncle’s not bringing nephews……friends not bringing friends ect. A entire generation of potential Buc fans has never been introduced to the team……..If it takes a Tom Brady to change all that it could be a great thing for the future generations of our fanbase…………While it starts with a influx of fair weathers, frontrunners and bandwagoners it ends with thier kin and those they choose to pass down Bucs football too.
As a die-hard you must bear with this annoying period of time crammed up next to flag wavers & “#1Bucs fans”……..Stay the course and in the next decade you may find yourself surrounded by new true diehards that will never turn their backs on our team like their fathers before them.

I love this place but sometimes people lose their objectivity and instead revert to personal prejudice.
First, you do realize the newspaper business has been in the Internet media business for 20+ years, so you’ve lost your mind if you think they couldn’t compete because of it. A major factor in the death of newspapers came about out of sheer arrogance and greed, and that comes from the staff, a top-down mentality. ‘Let’s give away our product free online but people will still buy the hard copy. And let’s give it away online while still charging our advertisers based on circulation even though logic says eyeballs on the paper (the ads) are lost because of the online audience.’ Only an industry dripping with arrogance and one that felt invincible operates like that. The powers that be in the local newspaper business have known for years that JoeBucsFan owns the Internet traffic market for the Bucs. They could have bought Joe out; they could have joined forces to help their business. They could have outmuscled Joe with more resources when they saw what was happening 10 years ago. But their arrogance became a flesh-eating bacteria. Joe is saddened that an important business like newspapers hasn’t swallowed its pride, folded all print editions and embraced the future. It should have happened years ago. And don’t get Joe started on the hypocrisy of save-the-planet opinions run by editorial boards when ink and newspaper are hardly environmentally friendly. (See freakout on tree tariffs a few years ago.) Newspapers deserve a good share of the blame for their troubles, just like Rays owner Stu Sternberg can’t blame everything on the local business market not buying corporate tickets. Regardless of what Joe or Hethren wish to believe..the Tampa Bay Times is not suffering because of their reporting or “political bias”. Those of you who believe the Times is suffering because of bias actually reveal your own right wing predilections to call anything you disagree with as “fake news”. At the age of 28 I was a morning air personality on the #1 rock station in Greenville SC. It was 1440 AM!!! We had the very best air staff in town and top ratings. This was the late 70’s. FM was beginning to engulf AM which eventually was forced into news/sports/religion talk no music because of fidelity and bandwidth issues. A station whose butt we routinely kicked in the ratings moved to FM and we fought the good fight against the INEVITABLE changes wrought by TECHNOLOGY but within two years we were toast. It had NOTHING to do with the talent or efforts of me and my buds
Fast forward to the 80s where I started a career as a TV sportscaster on an NBC affiliate. Local guys like Dick Crippin were the top dogs along with the newspaper guys like IRA. Then came the launch of BSPN and local sportscasters were totally minimized.
Luckily I did not then move to newspaper sports reporting just in time to watch that die…twice was more than enough!!!
Now we have the internet and Joe is king…for now…podcasts and technologies we haven’t even thought about yet may change all that. And when they do…it will have nothing to do with Joe’s coverage or writing.
Time moves on…I’m driving a car now not riding in a horse and buggy although Munchkin would insist I started of in one. LOL. The reason for this is because buggy makers did such a horrible job?
The Times and EVERY FREAKING PRINT PUBLICATION in this land are dying from TECHNOLOGY not because of editorial decisions or poor effort.
Am I suggesting that people in power (currently JBF) always use that power in a nice manner…hell no…I’m sure I was a major Jackwagon in Bristol when i had the power…but that had nothing to do with sports fans moving to BSPN.
Ironically now BSPN has to fend off myriad new technologies.

The way I see it the franchise right now has an established long term plan. Their next coach is on staff. And we have a great staff in place with a track record of developing rookie QB……Not to mention a great environment for a rookie QB to mention…….And also Bruce has a high priority to develope a young QB since he has a vested interest in the success of the next HC.
As far as fans turning their backs again. That is true. Each fairwheter fan will at some point. But like I said for each fairwheter fan that comes they have a son maybe that they will bring(potential die-hard of the future)…..or a nephew or friend ect……..This new Era of But C’s football will bring many new fans…..And it will be all types(bandwagon, fringe, partyers, frontrunners……and yes, even diehards). Funny in 2020 we need to actually have this discussion. My favorite all time Bucs player is Hardy Nickerson and my second is the class act Rhonda Barber. But because I dislike Winston and the drama that follows him around I’m considered having racist views. Most sports fans couldn’t care less if you were albino as long as you can play. Also my all time least favorite Buc who some considered a hall of fame player was Barrett Ruud.

2. Bucs re-sign Safety A. Adams. (1yr $1.1 mil)
3. Gerold McCoy’s contract has him making $5.25 mil this season. Suh shouldn’t expect much more than that. Maybe $6.5 million max…

Some mention the “bandwagon fans”. It’s one of a few annoyances that teams’ hardcore fans have to deal with. Here’s the thing, I went to my first game in 1980, Steelers vs Bucs. In 1981 or 1982 they went to the playoffs and did not return until Dungy’s 2nd year, 1997. In between, tickets were cheap and I bought some in 1991 when I got out of the Marines, season tickets that is. The big draw was “Battle of the Bays” and all the Chicago games. Seats were plentiful, not to mention painful (bleacher seating).
As I drone on, after 1996, the stadium began to fill, little by little. After 1997, and I was priced out of my season tickets, and there were ‘waiting lists’.
Currently, in an office of more than 30 people, I am one of 3 (THREE!) true die-hard fans. Everybody else is a Cowboys, Panthers, Dolphins, and yes even Patriots fans. My 21 year-old nephew, who’s never set foot in Pittsburgh, has more Steeler memorabilia than I have Bucs!
I’m treated as an oddity, a fan of my own local team! Why? Well, consider the few winning seasons this team has had and it’s not a stretch as to why. Know this, when we start winning again, the stadium will fill, and more gear will be donned. Many of us here will laugh at all the bandwagoners and reminisce the days of debating each other’s man-crush, or play calling, or that kicker we picked in the 2nd round. I look forward to that day. Back in the day there were some buggy dealers who saw the writing on the wall but didn’t do anything while others embraced that new horseless carriage.
The end result is the same…no more horse and buggy.
There is NOTHING they could have done to save the PAPER business. My wife loves reading the paper…I only read the sports page and any minimal local news content I need. I consume all the rest of my news coverage on the internet from a variety of sources including two major American News(paper)internet companies.
Bottom line…the Times did not die because of journalistic decisions or horrible reporting anymore than Acme buggies died because of poor trim on their carriages.

That’s cause he is a good football player so any team that’s needs somebody at his position would be interested. But if he wants to stay with the Bucs somebody’s gonna have to overpay to get him…..hence no rumors.

Don’t get me wrong. I would love to re-sign Suh but only if the price is right. This isn’t 2013 Suh it’s 2020 Suh… He may have to wait until after the draft. We shall see.

Ndog, I feel more sad for the bitter holdovers than I do the new arrivals. The bitter holdovers see all this fresh enthusiasm and forget that there was plenty for year 2 of both Josh Freeman and Jameis Winston. The difference is that we don’t know yet how the Brady optimism bubble will end (burst or soaring into immortality) whereas we all know (and most of us can accept objectively) how the Freeman and Winston optimism bubbles ended.
Those who want to detract from the current excitement at what MAY come with Brady in the name of clinging to memories of or perceived slights to prior teams/players are just wasting time. I hated the days they cut Doug, Lynch and Brooks… and then got back to rooting for the team on the field. Time for you to let it go and get with the program… or at least give it a rest for a few months to see how this new day in the bay ends. Ok?

NPUPPY must’ve forgotten when Freeman was drafted… or when JW was drafted. I’ll even go as far as to say when Jeff Garcia was signed. All had enthusiasm from the fans.
But now that your messiah is gone, you’re looking at the world through different lenses. You’ve seriously gone off the deep end. It’s actually quite sad, to be honest.
It must kill you to know that Winston isn’t even signed and perhaps a back up this yr.

I had the privilege of belonging to a family of Bucs season ticket holders from game one of the organization, and I have as my name implies been there with this team since the beginning.
I remember my own initial frustration at the bandwagon fans who jumped on board when coach Dungy turned the team around back in the day. But when it was all said and done I was just thrilled that the stadium was full and people were going crazy and I saw Bucs jerseys everywhere and people were talking about the team and we had some local sports pride for the first time since Doug Williams had been allowed to walk out of the building.
We know this is still a great sports town. The Lightning fan base proves that. Proper management and coaching and winning create that culture, and that brings in the fans who want to root for a winner. And that is fine by me! More noise in the stands for our boys is what it’s all about!!
So let’s make room for the bandwagon, old timers! At least they’ll be in the stands cheering when they’re supposed to cheer, instead of doing it for the other damn team.

No 951 it doesn’t kill me but yes I think it is garbage but it is what it is and nothing either you or I will change it. And by your constant CLUELESS comments about our QB that led our team to the #3 scoring offense in the NFL I can tell you are absolutely a bandwagon jumper. Goodness knows if Brady doesn’t succeed you will be the first to jump ship and rip him, cause that is just the kind of person you seem to be.

If they pick Kinlaw then they will not make a serious effort to get Suh which suits me fine.
Kinlaw is an excellent player but Suh was the 2nd pick in the entire draft. The only DL this year who possesses that kind of potential is Chase Young and he’ll go in the same position at #2 for the same reason Suh was second…A QB will be taken first.
I’m not suggesting that Kinlaw will not emerge as a great player just that in 2020 he is NOT an upgrade over Suh…obviously as he gets better and Suh continues to age that will change. But for a two year window I’d rather have Suh.

First off, myself and 32 other gm’s seem to think the same way. You do notice how he is not signed, right? I mean, the bears traded for foles before signing JW.
Second, I didn’t know being critical of our qb makes me a bandwagon jumper… do you know what that term even means?

So I really want to see America’s pick sixer go play for belicheat. Imagine the stories there. Was it Brady? Was it Belicheat? Best way to know- swap qbs and see what happens. That would be fun to see. If any system can fix the pick-sixer it’s that one
I called TB12 as a great fit for TB as soon as they were bounced from the playoffs- this is my other call for the season. Now let’s hope there is a season!

I just wanted to address something that we have been hearing now for the past few days from Bucs fans. We have been called “bandwagon fans” since we decided to change from Patriots fans to Bucs fans. I don’t think a person leaving a 12-4 team to join a 7-9 team constitutes a “bandwagon fan”. Most of the new Buc fans coming from New England are Brady fans who are upset at the Patriots organization for how they treated their 20 year quarterback who helped them get to 9 Super Bowls winning 6 of them! We are glad to be here!!! We were also asked a pretty legit question from someone. They said “Once Brady is gone will you still remain a Bucs fan?” For the record…I have always liked the Bucs team even as a Patriots fan and when I heard that Tom had chosen to go to the Bucs it was a NO BRAINER for me! Go BUCS!!

And that’s fine if you are.
But the majority of us around here have been Bucs fans for years if not decades, through all the heartbreak, losing, ineptitude and misery.
There is a difference.

unbelievable I agree with some of what you said but by description “Bandwagon fans are defined as sports fans who have shown no past loyalty to a team, and who only support them when they are doing well.”
Well yes it’s true that we now want to follow and root for the Bucs because of Brady, but your team was 7-9 last year and the Patriots were 12-4. That’s not really a bandwagoner by the description. We don’t know how the Bucs will do. Getting Brady could be a flop but we highly doubt it. I’m just happy for Tom and also for the Bucs!!!
