Mark Dominik Talks Questionable Glazer Timing, Judgment Day For O.J., Scheming Agents, And The Tom Brady Impact

“Mr. Glazer, remember when our team was operating near the NFL salary floor? Things sure have changed.”
Former Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik (2009-2013) is a self-proclaimed Bucs fan and maintains a keen pulse of the league via his work advising college prospects and as a host on SiriusXM NFL Radio.
This week Dominik weighed in on key points in Bucs fandom to a national audience.
Joe will summarize:
*As for general manager Jason Licht getting bombed with calls from players who want to play with Tom Brady, Dominik said that’s just agents for players who have no other offers trying to concoct a reason to look for work in Tampa. The ploy goes something like, ‘My guy always wanted to play with Brady and would take less money to come to the Bucs.’
*On a key aspect of Brady’s impact: “We’ll find out if O.J. Howard is a really good tight end or just a solid tight end. Right? We’re going to find out now, for sure. There’ll be no excuses.” Joe has heard that take from multiple NFL people — that Brady will fix him, assuming he can be fixed.
*On what Brady brings on the field, Dominik saw an excellent 2019 quarterback who threw the ball well last season. Dominik wonders how Brady’s mobility and arm strength will fade and how his recovery time might change. “The big thing will be less turnovers. You’re probably going to have 20 less interceptions next year. That’s a ton.”
*For those unaware, Team Glazer already raised ticket prices for new season ticket holders. If you had tickets last season, you were not affected by the increase. Dominik seemed to shake his head at that move: “I’m just a little surprised that the Glazer family decided to raise ticket prices. Maybe not the best timing on that. But that’s a personal opinion.”

Duthsty,…there are many people in our community sitting on piles of money. They usually don’t go to the places we do or post on message boards, like we do. And the Glazers feel it is time to harvest some of that money. I agree that it isn’t the best time or look for most fans… but it is those that can afford it that are their main concern. And that doesn’t just apply to football.

DEVO-lovin’ Bucs ex-GM Mark Dominik is just working in a coalmine as a “college advisor” and loves it when he is asked his opinion on anything. With ticket prices going up in the middle of a recession/depression, it’s a beautiful world for the Glazers but not for the rest of us. We can’t get no satisfaction!

I hear Dominik and posters here on the quick rise in ticket prices.
I’m kind of torn. Since Brady DID give the team a cap friendly deal and won’t even be the top paid QB in the league it would have been nice of the Glazers to take advantage of that in more than just the cap but also in holding the line on ticket prices.
OTOH JW has cost this franchise MILLIONS of dollars. Love JW all you want but that is a simple fact. When you can’t even use your franchise QB for promotion it’s really bad. We’ve debated ad nauseum whose fault this is. Obviously it’s not JW…he’s the teflon kid…it can’t be racism…this fan base LOVED Warren Sapp…it can’t be FSU hate…this fan base loved DB55 and WD even more.
I know…it’s because me and any of you who were ready to let him go are just idiots…clueless…so that must be it…the “clueless fan base” because the attendance woe and the lack of a pick on RayJay are surely not “Blameless” fault
So here’s a tip. Yeah we all want to move on. No need to dance on JW’s grave.
But as long as the FSU and JW LOVERS keep trolling us with their inane comments…some without the lack of discipline…mea culpa…get sucked into it once again.
And sadly right now there is nothing else to talk about in Sports.

Never quite understood the Dom hatred. There’s definitely better GM’s out there but there also worse imo. I thought at times he did some good things. But like any gm had his misfortunes and some of it was coaching. Still remember Mike Williams was such a great receiever (was pretty sure Dom picked him) and then I dunno what happened. Was it a weed thing? Was tanard also a Dom pick? I dunno maybe their characters were worth questioning more

I highly don’t those suffering financially from this pandemic are the ones that would be buying tickets anyway; at old prices or those at 10% higher or whatever the increase. So it’s a little strange I come down on the Glazers for raising ticket prices at this time.
In fact, it probably makes more business sense to raise prices now as their target market for those unaffected by the financial chaos is now a smaller pool of people that will still have money to spend, so might as well get them each to spend a bit more to make up for the changes.

You can bet the price now is what current holders will pay next year…or more. Terrible timing. I’m surprised Brian Ford allowed such a stupid move, though I’d not be surprised Ben Milsom, his underling, woudln’t do it–Milson is a born-hard idiot. Maybe the Glazers directed it, but really blew the luster off the Brady signing.

How many years did Mark Dominik have on his contract when Team Glazer fired him? Team Glazer loves to spread around Glazer loot paying people not to play, coach, or GM. Fans ultimately pay for those decisions in more ways than one.

^^ There is truth in that, Doctor Stroud. I have always appreciated the Glazers being willing so spend to try and get this thing turned around. I realize that they have not always made the best choices… but it does at least always seem like they are trying…. and I appreciate that.

We’ve always been near the bottom of the league in terms of ticket prices. For good reason too. Let’s see a story on some of the generous owners from other teams dropping ticket prices. Not going to happen. We’re still below market. Business is business. I’m locked in at the lower rate since I didn’t have to jump on the bandwagon so I suppose easy for me to say.

No we don’t need Sapp to work on OJ Howard, we need a true former beast mode nfl tightend to work on him, n that would be no other than the “Gronk”. Let him get in the ring with Gronk at the WWE for some body slam reps, anything to wake OJ the hell up. He’s too timid n passive. I still cant get over how last year OJ ran out of bounds from a would be 190-200 lb tackler in the open field. smh

O. J. Howard doesn’t need fixing. He needs to be utilized as a tight end, receiving. He was not a blocking back at Bama and it’s not his talent. If Arians wants a blocking back he should go get a fullback. (If they still exist on Planet Earth)

dmatt & John Sinclear, I think there is truth in what both of you guys said.
Yes, I think OJ simply does need to be utilized better, and I think Brady is going to help get some more of that into Bruce’s offense.
But, yes I also agree that he needs to toughen up a bit! He is a very big & strong dude… utilize that body like a Power Forward in the NBA. Go up and GET that ball, and that swat away those little nat CB’s like flies.

Dmatt – it is strange but many Buc fans just prefer players to be all around a-holes. Part of the reason they didn’t like McCoy is that he wasn’t a first class jerk like Sapp. I don’t need an a-hole tight end. I just want production.

@TDownTB, nasty on the field while playing aggressively, but not that way the other times. Its a switch to turn on and off. Some have it some dont, it can be developed though if you go through enough.

Certainly understand your logic…Gronk has the Brady connection.
But what amazed me last year is that the Bucs didn’t give Jimmie Giles. Doesn’t he even live in Tampa. He was before my time but his rep was as the consummate TE who could block and catch and run and was a wonderful teammate. That’s second hand knowledge for me…you long time guys can confirm or deny what Jimmie Giles meant to the Bucs.
Wouldn’t it make sense though that our first round pick…and hopefully the next great TE would be helped a bit by the greatest TE the Bucs have had?

I have to laugh about the raising of tickets prices. Yes, it shows that they are typical true capitalists. (Back off I’m a typical American capitalist also. I live in this society too.) You can consider it as lacking in class if you want.
I laugh out loud because I picture a lot bandwagon fans who have a lot of money to burn who are going to transfer extra buck into the Glazers’ pockets. Those folks are not true FANatics. They have not supported the Bucs during the bad times of the last 12 years.
I do feel bad for the hard core supporters who have put their money where their mouths are for so long. There should be some kind of system that would show their purchase receipts for all those years. They should accordingly get a twenty-five percent discount automatically. Of course they should have to compete for a “place in line” to buy those tickets in the usual way.
