Rondé Barber Explains Why The Bucs Gave Up On Jameis Winston

March 19th, 2020

Bucs icon Rondé Barber may be the ultimate Buccaneers insider.

Close friends with Bruce Arians? Check.

A good friend of Jason Licht? Check.

Very tight with Team Glazer? Check.

Breaks down film for Buccaneers.com and the team’s preseason TV team? Check.

And Barber covers Bucs games in-season for FOX, which gives him access to coaches, in addition to watching Bucs film while preparing for various broadcasts.

Yesterday, Barber was talking about former Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston and his demise in Tampa.

Simply stated, Barber explained that Jameis was not good enough.

“Let me dispel a myth. Bruce’s no-risk-it, no-biscuit offense, it’s not what you think it is,” Barber told CBS Sports Radio. “Everybody thinks it’s this air it out, throw it down the field, Bruce’s offense is geared toward that 10-, 20-yard passing game. Carson Palmer excelled at that his last two years in Arizona. Jameis Winston, those same throws that I saw Carson Palmer make, [with Jameis] they were hitting the other team in the face.

“That’s the problem. That was the problem with Jameis Winston. He would drop back, hit his back foot, let the ball go, and he knew he was right in his head in where the ball would go, and he mis-read the defense or they read his tendencies, and interception.

“… I do think he can be a franchise quarterback, but he’s got to get around a team, especially a coordinator and a coach that are going to protect him from himself. I mean the guy likes to just sling it around, but his inability to protect the football I think is the major point here. …”

“That’s what I mean by saying ‘offensive coordinator.’ And he had a first-time offensive coordinator in Byron Leftwich last year; it has to be a coordinator and a coach that’s going to protect him from himself, and make it easier.”

Barber went on to note Jameis’ stats last year and his immense talent and production, but said the mistakes became too much for the Bucs to bear.

“Not only does he make throws that other people can’t make, he makes throws that other people can’t attempt,” Barber said of Jameis. “”The guy has talent, but his inability to get out of his own way I think is what really facilitated them starting to look elsewhere for a quarterback.”

As for Jameis’ next stop, “his market is dry,” Barber said.

“Part of the problem with Jameis is, he told everyone at the end of the season that he was looking for $30 million a year. Is he worth it from the positive? Is he worth it from the negative? Probably not for some of those teams? So he’s going to have to wait. He’ll end up somewhere. He’s too talented a player to not be in the NFL.”

Hearing all this, especially the chatter about Leftwich, it’s easy to walk away thinking Jameis was a bad fit for Leftwich and the Arians system overall. And when the Bucs realized he regressed in late December, it was enough to launch him.

I’ve been looking for 30 million my whole life…

“Not only does he make throws that other people can’t make, he makes throws that other people can’t attempt,”

Such a beautiful way to describe Jameis. To be honest, barring injury, i dont think he will be a starter in 2020. I mean, the only team that needs a starting QB that isnt in position to draft one are the Patriots and no way Bellicheck puts up with the turnovers.

  3. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

I like this photo of Winston waving goodbye.

  4. jb51 Says:

As always, find myself agreeing with former Bucs greats on jameis. We were all excited in 2015, thought he was the one. But man, if you can’t care of the football, who cares if you throw for 5000 yards.

Imagine if you told Russell Wilson or Patrick Mahomes, “hey you can throw 3 INTs today, just go get stats…. you really think they wouldn’t throw for 6,000 yds?

People need to stop taking turnovers so lightly.

  5. El Buco Realisto Says:

So the coach that was hired to “fix jw3” was a “bad fit”!!!!!!!!!!! Lol!!!!!!!!! The excuses sound good after the fact, until some remember the coaches mantra of ” keep throwing”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who will have the best golf cart at training camp, brady or ole stale biscuit???????????

And come on IRA, it’s time to put Rhonde Barber in the Hall of Fame!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Last quote from Ronde Barber says it all, “Part of the problem with Jameis is, he told everyone at the end of the season that he was looking for $30 million a year.”

Why should any team risk 1/7 of their cap to someone who leads the league in interception? Teams were simply turned off by his demands. Most teams have already spent most of their cap money. He’d be lucky to get $20M this year.

He had one of the best WR core and two good pass catching TEs and still made bad play after bad plays.

  7. Bruce Blahak Says:

    America’s Backup QB!

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

So…now he is “former” Bucs QB and no longer “America’s QB”…….that’s because he never was…..
I was a Winston supporter and am very disappointed it didn’t work out for him….but I don’t blame his coaches….I blame him….he threw the picks…there was nothing wrong with the play calls…..he just didn’t see the field well and threw the ball up for grabs too many times.
    I wish him well.

  9. james west Says:

listen, i was a winston supporter, apologist, excuse maker for his first three seasons, and then my eyes opened up, the light came on, and it was clear to see, he just was not going to be the guy to get it done in tampa, i wan’t to thank the man for his hard work and dedication, to the team, and the fanbase, nobody worked as hard as jameis to try and make it happen, with that being said, none of us, as fans should throw any pity party for winston, he’s made over 21 million in 5 years, pretty damn good imho, he can always go back to baseball, or alabama, and live like most of us could only dream of, unless we hit the lotto, as always go bucs!!!!!

  10. Steven007 Says:

Hey Realtatdo, the coaches realized they made a mistake and moved on. That’s what good coaches do. Obviously.

  11. LazyMoak Says:

    “check my sheet”

  12. Eric Says:

Man I have a sneaky suspicion in 3 years this will bit the Bucs in the tail! I hope Brady deliver a championship if not it will be a major disappointment if he is as good as they say! Top 10 Defense if they play like the end of last season it SB or Bust for the “ Whisperer” no excuses potna!

  13. Anonymous Says:

was a huge fan even have a poster. He couldn’t do it. didn’t help we didn’t have a run game or defense but the turnovers killed the team and killed the locker room imo when guys don’t got to bat for him the silence was deafinng

  14. Pa Privateer Says:

For me it was the fact that I was always scared he would throw an INT when the game was on the line. To often he proved me right to be scared.

Then there was all those throws that bounced off defenders that should have been picks. Then there was the obvious staring down of WRs on certain plays. Absolutely maddening as a fan. I actually stopped trying to make sure I watched a game. I would rather do something productive and less stressful than watch him drop back to pass and know an INT or bonehead play was coming.

  15. Bird Says:

Rhonde is saying the same thing people were saying for a long time and were criticized for it

Seemed pretty obvious but the excuses kept getting larger…and larger…and larger.

Once teams get tape on you and your tendencies (cause jameis 1st Two years may have been his best) and you fail to avoid staring guys down….turnovers are are bound to happen…And when you have the mindset that you should make a play on every down (poor decisions ) .without throwing the ball away..its a recipe for disaster

  16. Gettinthebucs Says:

I still believe Jameis can be a great QB. He needs to be on a good team. If they had a half decent running game last year we probably make the playoffs. When you’re one dimensional its easy to guess what the QB will do. I mean Jesus we could barely even run screens last year.

  17. JA Says:

I don’t have an issue with the Brady deal. I do, however, have an issue about our plan for when he’s gone. Whether it’s him being carted off the field after an o-lineman missing a block or him retiring after two years, the fact remains (according to a Patriots reporter yesterday on sports talk radio) that all 43+ year old quarterbacks in the history of the NFL have only combined for 8 touchdown passes–two by Vinny T and rest one each. Didn’t spend the time to research those stats, but it sounds about right.
We need a QB plan B and we need it fast.

  18. Bird Says:

    Jameis west

Actually he made around 40 mil (last season was almost 21 mil alone)
    Which is filthy 💴

  19. El Buco Realisto Says:

    @Tampabaybucfan

Way to go, you have come so far from you being good with the, ( Interceptions and losing) as long as they saved a couple of dollars on the contract for jay-miss!!!!!!!!!! At least you kept with the Buccaneer Way with placing sole blame and simplification of problems to The one person who just walked out the door!!!!!!!!!!!! All problems are now fixed right!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Some of the sheep need to start to think about how long teams built thru free-agency last!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. LazyMoak Says:

“The Brady Plan” can only work out if in the big picture his long term replacement is part of the “Plan”

  21. Aceofaerospace Says:

Glad the Bucs finally admitted this wasn’t going to work.

  22. '79 Defense Says:

Winston off field issues and interceptions aside, I do feel bad for him as he put the work in, was community minded–hospital visits and all that, and it just didn’t work out.

A lot of these guys are kicked when they’re down. We don’t fully understand or appreciate their efforts, the pressure on them to perform or just how hard they worked and the countless hours they (he) put in for the good of the team.

    I wish Jameis well.

  23. Sharthappens Says:

The loser gave up on himself.

  24. gofortheface30 Says:

What I wanna know is, what is causing the hold up in contract language? I’m sure it’ll get done, after this season ticket surge – there’s no walking this back. But lets just say worst case scenario happens, and this mutates in to a super virus, football season is cancelled. Do the Bucs get cap relief at all? How does that work

  25. Jean Lafitte Says:

I was a Winston supporter until he came back from suspension and took our momentum away from the team with several multi turnover games. Fitz was holding down the fort ad he came back and crapped the bed. I was done.

I’m not opposed to have him backup Tom Brady if he wants to stay in Tampa.

  26. Ndog Says:

See this is the kind of stuff that is frustrating. Ronde Barber himself was left to test the market and do you think if we could have gotten Deion Sanders we would have brought Ronde back? Everyone wants to talk trash well that’s fine, but you best remember he is 26 years old and there is a long way to go before he’s done. And we ALL better hope he doesn’t figure it out cause if he does we will be sitting here with no QB in two years while we are watching him rip people to shreds. So again we better hope he doesn’t fix that one issue or we are going to look mighty stupid yet again.

  27. gotbbucs Says:

There are 32 starting positions at QB in the NFL and there are 32 head coaching positions. As a head coach, you better have a damn good relationship with your owner and your fan base if you’re going to hedge your bets on Winston suddenly figuring out how to be an NFL Qb.

He might get another chance to start at some point down the road, but he’ll never again have as long a leash as he had as a recent #1 overall pick on a guaranteed rookie contract. His next 3 or 4 interception game will probably be his last game as a starter in the NFL.

  28. ATrain Says:

Just like GMC the NFL market shows us how good Jameis is

He came out at end of the year asking for 30 million hahah. After ending a game with a pick 6

He maybe be luck to get 6 million

But honestly I can’t believe Chicago would pick up Foles instead of Winston
Especially after Foles was benched in the Bucs game after the Jags fans Booed him off the field

That to me says a lot

By the way NDog your silent is comical —- I guess because ALL of the NFL is idiots

  29. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

It is what is was….but I could have saved everyone and lot of trouble and angst if you listened to me 5 years ago

  30. Destinjohnny Says:

    Ronde could be a gm
    He is switched on

  31. Ndog Says:

For those oh you saying you don’t blame the coaches, I ask why not? He is not here because of himself, his teammates and yes COACHING as well. When you refuse to get a real RT, when refuse to get a running back, when you refuse to get a defense, when you refuse to get a kicker, that makes it hard on a QB. Listen he is gone now so everyone is happy, buy you are lying to yourself if you think this franchise did ANYTHING other than give him two great wide receivers and two one dimensional tight ends. Show the proof otherwise where this was great heck average defense, where was this efficient running game, where was this clutch kicker?

And here’s a little secret for you. If they don’t fix those things, it doesn’t matter what ESPN tells you over and over again we still aren’t going to win.

Now the defense starting looking better at the end of the year (albeit vs some garbage teams), but our running game was still below average and our kicker was trash.

But I’m sure now they will fill each whole and the narrative will be it was always the QBs fault. We shall see and if so great cause we are winning but don’t lie to yourself and act like this organization did much of anything right with Jameis.

  32. MadMax Says:

    $20 mill somewhere…..maybe $8 as a backup

Seriously though, good luck with your future JW….you did some ish and hopefully learned from it and will never go there again. Your receivers made you look a lot better than you really were. Be glad you had them.

  33. MadMax Says:

^ and this nutthugger is still here? i hope you follow said ballsack to his next team….what a ish head! Just move on ish head!

  34. ATrain Says:

WHERE WILL WINSTON BE RIPPING IT

    NDOG AKA JAMEIS WINSTON

YOU DONT HAVE A TEAM TO RIP IT

FOLES GOT A JOB BEFORE YOU HAHAHAH

You maybe ripping it in the CFL

I’m convinced NDOG is Jameis posting in here. NO ONE CAN BE THAT STUPID TO DEFEND THIS GUY

JAMEIS IS STILL ON THE MARKET

  35. Ndog Says:

I love right below my post someone said I’m silent. Brilliant sir and yes are all still CLUELESS and this just proves my point of the slander that has been happening to Jameis since day one. No one is willing to take a chance on the media backlash for signing him. You really believe Gardner Minshew, Dwayne Haskins, Mitch T, Nick Foles and countless others are better than Jameis? Even you don’t believe that but it doesn’t matter this is what happens when folks are brainwashed.

  36. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

32 starting QB positions, at least 1 or 2 back-up QB positions per team and he still has not signed with anyone. My bet is he signs with Pittsburgh and hopefully takes over when Ben retires in 1 or 2 years.

  37. Ndog Says:

Oh there is Madmax still not making any points whatsoever and can’t refute anything anyone says cause he just as CLUELESS as ever. Grow up Maxie.

  38. H8JWLVEBUCS Says:

The retirement of the STUPID “America’s Quarterback”

Thank you soooo 🙏 much Bruce Arians!

  40. RGA Says:

He had no receivers the last few games and still threw for well over 300 yards a game.

  41. Darryls64 Says:

I think we need to look at what he said about not saving him from himself, they did not do the things you need to do to protect your QB, like pull him before he throws 5 interceptions, how many coaches allowed that to happen, they did nothing to protect him or his image. Keep slinging it is not really what you do to develop your QB, BA I believe is not the whisperer that many people think he is. He worked with some of the best QBs in the NFL, maybe they would have made it with anyone working with them, not sure , just a question. I think he did what he could do after the season to hurt Jameis’s chances of getting work in the future, that is not what a players coach should do in the off season.

  42. ElBajito43 Says:

NDOG PLZ LEAVE THIS SITE IMMEDIATELY

  43. Jean Lafitte Says:

    Ndog

31 teams agreed with the Bucs, but somehow you Mr. Nobody knows best?

Jameis may some day have the light turn on, and I hope for his sake and his career that it does. Tampa couldn’t wait for him to grow-up. 15 seasons not reaching post season and Jameis was part it for 5 seasons. How many seasons were we supposed to wait? Wait till the Glazers sold the team and have the new ownership leave Tampa? Persoally, after all the name calling and insults you been making to fellow fans, I think you should just follow Jameis and become a fan of next team. In the mean time we will enjoy having a legit chance to win games.

  44. MadMax Says:

    Ndog is jaboo….

    You too Maxie.

    Time to move on…Thank God!

  48. MadMax Says:

Just like you ndoggie, jaboo has slow think and slow twitch ability….cant fix that….is what it is….so piss off jaboo/ndod

Cant wait to see how Brady….(fast twitch/fast thinking) crafts his offense!!

Hey ndog/jaboo, lets bet…..10 grand we go to the SB with your upgrade!!! Bet?

  49. Bird Says:

    Joe

My post was deleted for same same thing that was commented above
The sack part (ball vs nut) and loving on dem
They got a pass. Most people comment on much worse

Thanks man and you wonder why i bust chops (Sarcastically)
What if i put nole or jameis rules in my poster name
Actually Do you have anyone in moderation thats fits those characteristics
I know… i am just one push away
    😂

  50. Jeffbuc Says:

Ndog that’s the main problem between us regular bucs fan and you jameis bucs fan. You keep saying we better he hope he doesn’t figure out to quit throwing picks. You are willing to wait a decade of losing for that to maybe still not happen.just to be right about him. If any other coach thought that one little bad thing he does is no big deal and can be coached out of him. He would be the qb of the bears, colts, chargers, raiders, they all went with guys who threw for a lot less yards but for less interceptions. It has nothing to do with if he had a running game defense or kicker. You heard what ronde said and he knows more than you will ever know on what he is seeing. And he said the problem is he plants his back foot throws it to where he thinks it should go and it hits the defender in the face. So that will happen if he throws it 40 times or 20 times a game. So you are saying if he only had to throw it 20 times a game he would only have 15 interceptions because he threw less. But than you can also cut his yards and tds in half with that same logic. So his last season stats would have been 2,600 yards 16 tds 15 ints. That’s the point that isn’t worth 20-30 million. We can draft minshew in the 4th for those numbers. So you can’t have it both ways if he had all the things you said he needs to succeed to throw the ball less al his stats come down not just interceptions. And that is what every team knows.

  51. Bucnjim5656 Says:

Every team had a similar game plan against the Bucs. Load the box with seven or even eight defenders and force Winston to throw. Even the best RBs in the league struggle when D’s sell out to stop the run. If the QB can’t make them pay then it’s a long day.

  52. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Ndog…….. still slurping.

    Good boy.

  53. Jeffbuc Says:

Ndog If you were a coach and be 100% honest. Would you put your career on the back of Winston. Not Winston your man crush but just Winston the qb. Would you serious risk your families riches for a QBs who you never know from week to week no matter how great your gameplan and your 80 hours of it you put in. Your whole week of great practice. Your favored by 10 coming in feeling great. Then first series of the game your down 7-0 on a pick six. And then comes 3 more interceptions you lose a game you should have one. No coach is going to put there faith in the hands of a QBs that they have no clue what version is showing up from quarter to quarter. Not by choice they would only try to fix them if they were Arians and Koetter situation he was already the starting QB first overall pick on the team when you became the head coach

  54. GrafikDetail.com Says:

wasn’t BA, Leftwich and his 100 coaches supposed to protect jameis from himself, or was that just hogwash?

  55. MadMax Says:

    10K jaboo/ndog!! Lets go!!

  56. DBS Says:

Other teams have never played against him. Never seen his tape. Don’t know his history. Don’t know is demands or statements. The Bucs are why he can’t get a starting job because they said bad things and should not have. Ok yes I am sure that is why nobody wants him. BS

  57. NEWBUC Says:

    Did I miss something?

    Did Kraft buy the Bucs?
Is Belichick going to coach the Bucs?
Is Josh Daniels going to be the new Bucs Coordinator?

The next few years in TB are going to be an epic GoatPhuck.

  58. IMissLovie Says:

Brady has played behind some suspect lines quite a few times in his career. The difference is that he gets rid of the ball quickly and avoids the collisions.

  59. 813bucboi Says:

Simply stated, Barber explained that Jameis was not good enough.

    thats it…plain and simple….

im glad he, “dispel a myth” about BAs offense too….

    GO BUCS!!!!

  60. Robert Says:

it’s not because of skills, it’s because he’s an egomaniac and can not read a defense……and don’t forget the off the field stuff.

30 million WTF. just another example that he is clueless and has not learned a dang thing. I hope he plays in our division!

  61. mark2001 Says:

Time for healing…no…Jameis isn’t the biggest problem this franchise had for years. Yes…the team did spend a great deal of time and resources trying to help him become successful. Yes…Jameis does have tremendous talent…but needs to rethink his game. He can’t turn the ball over that much and be a franchise, 30 mil. QB. And until he does, he won’t start for most teams. Yes…we should stop the sniping at each other and we should rally behind the team and hope Brady shows flashes of being the GOAT for the next couple years. And Yes…we better find or draft Brady’s eventual replacement.

  62. Mister Positive Pete Says:

Bad fit but wasn’t the whole point of bringing Arians in to make Winston better?

  63. MadMax Says:

Let us see what an online bet losing/winning looks like jaboo/ndog.

I recall this happening a few years ago, and dude changed his name or stopped posting….IM TAKING YOUR NAME NDOG!!! I WILL FKN OWN IT!!!!!!!!

  64. DalvinCookRules Says:

So Ronde just figured out what I have been saying the last 3 years? It is almost verbatim from some of my past posts and why I predicted Winston would have some serious issues with the new offense before last season even began.

  65. MadMax Says:

    10K MUTHAFKA OR STFU!!!!!

  66. miken Says:

Too bad Jameis kept the people around him he does. They did him no favors

  67. DBS Says:

I guarantee other coaches past and present have talked. The subject was what they have tried to tell him and teach him. And it was going in one ear and out the other. Some improvement but not enough. Time to move on.

  68. Robert Says:

jw is responsible for who he surrounds himself with. It’s not their fault and there’s no “too bad” about it. He was an idiot before we drafted him, why they thought they could change that is a mystery.

  69. CB Says:

If the market for Jameis is that cold, what are the chances he stays with Tampa as a backup?

Learns from the GOAT and improves.

  70. El Buco Realisto Says:

So, to sum it all up!!!!!! Coach Koetter was right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  71. Dapostman Says:

Leftwich and Arians never adjusted to personnel. Remember the first Saints game? They came out calling plays for Miller and Perriman. They never really got Howard and Brate involved all season. Another point was when Evans and Godwin went down the last two games. RoJo should have been option #2 behind Perriman but Watson who by the way looks scared to actually run with the ball got more attention. It’s crazy. Throw in the run game which was non existent until week 17 and there you have it.

Good coaches fit their schemes to the talent they have. How many times did we see Winston on a called roll out? We all know after watching Winston for 5 years that he excels outside the pocket.

My personal opinion is I think players like playing for Arians because you can see the effort was there all season except Hargreaves. QB whisperer? He got fired by the Steelers because he was getting Big Ben killed. Hope the same doesn’t happen to Brady.

  72. D-Rome Says:

Good riddance to Mr. Unemployed, America’s Clipboard Holder, Jameis Winston. Good riddance to him and his fans.

  73. T REX Says:

    Ndog melting down is awesome!

You’re a bum pal. Get lost. No one xares what you’re blathering about.

    Lol.

  74. Formerly Tampa 2 Says:

While not a Winston supporter or hater,. I respect Ndog (& others) passion for him. However, love him or hate him Winston is gone and we have a new QB. So can’t we just end the verbiage or bashing of Winston? Whether he did good or bad Winston received way more money for what he did than all of us fans that are giving their opinions on here. Lets turn the page and begin a new Chapter, one of renewed hope for Buc fans in 2020.

  75. View from 132 Says:

It seems obvious that if Winston doesn’t get the money he wants the best move would to stay here as a decently-but-not-over paid backup to Brady. He’d learn a lot, and give his agent a few years to circulate the story of the grown up family man to put Uber, etc behind him. He could hold a clipboard for 2 years and STILL be a young, desirable free agent without even selling his house.

  76. Ndog Says:

Who’s melting down? Pointing out FACTS is melting down? Tell me what I posted that is inaccurate? Like always you guys have NOTHING but childish insults cause you have nothing valid to say.

  77. Robert Says:

you guys still clinging to jw being a backup are nuts. he’s always had the will and the skill, he just doesn’t “get it” on or off the field.

thats the reason he’s not been signed and the exact same reason we should not want him….even for free!

nothing but a locker room distraction with TB at the helm.

  78. MadMax Says:

ROFLMAO! Ndog crying about “childish insults” when hes done it the whole time…..btch plz!!

    10K lets go kid!

  79. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

Terrific summary from Buc Legend…on the Mount Rushmore of Buccaneer lore. Makes complete sense all around. Wish JW the best ( except vs The Bucs )…perhaps in a West Coast offense. Time expired on him in Tampa 00:00

  80. MadMax Says:

Ndog kiddie is all of a sudden silent on me…alright kid, you recognized 😉

  81. Aaron Says:

I think it goes further than making a bad read or inaccurate throw. I don’t think audible when he should…oh well, onward and upward.

Go Bucs – everyone be well.

  82. Eric Says:

Its very interesting how the fan base has changed.

While Chucky was here he was always roasted for not “developing a young Qb”, and bringing in vets at the position.

Now the fan base embraces a 42 year old guy at QB, and damn the young QB.

    The irony is thick.

I was a Winston supporter and am very disappointed it didn’t work out for him….but I don’t blame his coaches….I blame him….he threw the picks…there was nothing wrong with the play calls…..he just didn’t see the field well and threw the ball up for grabs too many times.

    Agreed.

As you know, I’m a film geek, and thanks to the Coaches Film component of Game Pass, I watch every Bucs game after the game.

I cannot tell you the dozens and dozens of times Winston threw a crazy pass, many intercepted or dropped ints when another player was wide flat open.

Often Winston tried to jam a ball into double coverage when an easy completion was available.

IMO, Winston relied on his fastball far more than his head, and this cost wins and his job. He did not see the field well, and it was not because of his vision.

  84. ToesOnTheLine!!! Says:

Jameis will get a shot to compete again, his arm talent level is too good to ignore. Personally I think his best options world be a couple teams not getting mentioned. Steelers (Big Ben has taken a beating over the years and who knows how his elbow will be coming off last years surgery? Plus Jameis has a similar skill set imo). I doubt Jameis would have to worry about Rudolph or “Duck”. I could also see Denver being a potential good spot. They grabbed Locke last year, but having a vet like Jameis might be something former QB turned GM Elway is intrigued by? Regardless I think Jameis and the Bucs each needed a fresh start, and getting Brady for a couple years seems like a great fresh start.

  85. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I respect Ndog and admire his passion and steadfast loyalty to Jameis……so I say this with all due respect.

Ndog……it’s time to move on…..he’s gone…..can’t cry over spilled milk and all of the appropriate sayings…..

Let it be, oh let it be…

  86. ATrain Says:

Hey Jameis umm I mean NDOG

TEAMS worry about what backlash if they sign you???? I mean Jameis

    BACKLASH FOR WHAT???

WINNING IS THE NAME OF THE GAME PERIOD

If You (I mean Jameis) GAVE a team the chance to win They would pay him PERIOD

By the way YOU ARE THE KING OF NAME CALLING

    FACTS YOU SAY

FACT Jameis has too many INTs
FACT in four games the Bucs lost by single digits and JAMEIS HAD 18 INT
FACT still looking for a job
FACT NFL GMs know more than you or you would make millions in a front office

  87. ATrain Says:

    One more FACT

NDOG AKA JAMEIS will defend the QB play till the end and Blame everyone else

    ITS EVERYONE ELSES FAULT

Fan of himself not the team

  88. Youngbucs Says:

Ndog I got something valid to say shut up with the excuses I mean at least until the hof finds a job just saying

  89. Youngbucs Says:

The nfl has spoken loudly guess what it turns out tht turnovers do matter who would have thought

  90. Charlie Says:

If jameis was smart, he’d ask to stay as Brady’s backup, learn from him and then be ready to step in after Brady leaves. He can learn a lot from Brady.

  91. #1 BUCFAN Says:

I’d keep JW on practice sqd. Pay him whatever the price for backup QB.
If Brady hangs around for two three years JW might learn from the best.
He might be handy in event Brady is hurt.

  92. Kansas95Buc Says:

    @Ndog,
Man let it go, you cant talk sense to some people. You been making the most sense about Winston and yet people just want to hate on the man yet overlooking the TEAM short comings. Yes we all agree the int’s has to come down but can we really say the Bus organization did anything to help Winston? And what is with all the name calling? Most of you people on here act like little kids, name calling when you cant articulate your argument

  93. #1 BUCFAN Says:

I’d keep JW on practice sqd. Pay him whatever the price for backup QB.

He can play,he started to early, or try baseball.

  94. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

I am definitely not “hating” on Jameis. I am sad that it did not work out here for him, and know how desperately he wanted it too. He loves Tampa Bay.

It has never been all his fault.
He HAD to get those turnovers down.
BOTH of these things have always been true.

I am a Jameis Winston fan, and will pulling for him, wherever he goes. I hope that maybe being a backup for a little while, in the right situation, may actually allow him to hit reset for a little while, and still be young enough to resurrect the 2nd half of his career. I hope he is GREAT.

It feels like for the good of Jameis….
and for the good of the BUCS….
this time to part had come.

It’s time to move forward, and embrace what is to come.
    LET’S GO BUCS

  95. Kansas95Buc Says:

Another thing, how many of us remember Winston trying to get AP signed to the Bucs?

  96. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    We normally say “GO BUCS”

With Tom…. “LET’S GO BUCS” seems more appropriate…
… saying it with his favorite phrase

  97. 541BucsFan Says:

    “I’m ball’n.”

    … Nope.

  98. bucsfaninoregon Says:

Sure, let’s have Famous Jameis as the backup QB. Cheap and maybe he can learn something that he couldn’t learn in five years.
Of course, there is absolutely NO chance of locker room division between Jameis’ pals developed over 5 years and those that want to move on with TB. Certainly, that could never happen and think how happy Ndog and Tmax would be.
NEWSFLASH: Jameis is GONE! Goodbye. Watch out for that door on the way out. See you on TV (XFL)
I wanted Mariota five years ago. Maybe, this wouldn’t have worked either, but could it have been worse (5 years in the pits)?

  99. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    ^^^ Mariota, YUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would still have taken Jameis any day of the week over that guy.

But yes I do agree with you that the time for JW & BUCS to part, for the good of both….. was now.

  100. ItzOK Says:

Itz not over for Jameis. I think the Bucs are foolish to not try and resign him as the back up for 2 years. What if father time knocks on Brady’s door, What if Donovan smith gets Brady Killed, What if Corona virus kills Brady, what if Corona virus cancels the 2020 NFL season? I love the excitement and agree with signing Brady but my fear is its very short lived as his career is already past the back 9. Why are all 30 interceptions on Jameis here. When he was having an off day he never just held back when the Bucs were down to protect his stats. He always played to win. When he was having a 2 interception first quarter what did the coaches say. Keep firing it dont worry about it. they could have attempted to run the ball more for balance but nope they wanted to push and force it constantly. I think the 30 int’s is an obvious anomaly. If he were to come back his picks would regress back to the mean and around 15/year.

  101. ATrain Says:

    Kansas

What name did I call anyone?

Bucs did nothing to help Jameis
    Changed coaches three times
Best duo WR in the league
    Excellent TEs
#1 run defense in the NFL
    Top 10 overall defense

    Excuse Excuse

Jamies had a prove it year
Bucs kept him on extension gave second chance

    He Failed

Y’all say Facts Not name calling although NDog calls everyone idiots

Fact —- No one in the NFL wants him period

  102. Mike Johnson Says:

Buc fans been Losers for so long, we don’t know how to wish a guy good luck with another team. So I’ll say it here. Thanks for the effort jameis. You tried but it was not good enough. You will be back in a big way. maybe even this year when..not if..a starter goes down. And many will go down. Learn from your mistakes and march on. Good Luck Guy!

  103. stpetebucsfan Says:

Nobody wants to kick someone when they’re down. JW is hardly down. He earned close to 50 million already…he’s been treated like his dooty doesn’t smell with obsequious fawning fans telling him his manure smell is because somebody else forced him to eat all those beans!!!

WAKE UP and smell the freaking coffee! Ronde knows ALL of these guys and wants to tread carefully…he sugar coated that as well as he could and still face JW for his next interview.

JW has two strikes against him in today’s PC NFL. Woman and alcohol! One more “hassle” and he’s out of the league for at least a year.

You JW lovers will vouch for his character, dependability but when he was alleged to have raped it was a gold digger…when he groped an Uber driver again it was an Uber driver…I suspect she went into that club and spiked JW’s drinks so SHE could take advantage of HIM.

These results are simply JW reaping what he sewn. Stop pretending otherwise.

Hopefully he’s learned a lesson….I typed that same sentence after the FSU crap finally blew over…I typed it again after AZ….I typed it again after his benching…what are the guarantees I won’t be typing it again? Even a billionaire doesn’t want to risk 20 to 30 million on those guarantees.

  104. Anonymous Says:

Where will jameis eat his “W’s” next year, looks like he’s gonna be starving

  105. Oneilbucs Says:

Jamies is not on the team so now no one can blame him for losing . Yall better hope this Brady thing works because if it doesn’t we are going to bad for a long time . Short term fixes hurts teams down line.

More players should have stood by him, especially “Black Brothers”, it’s showed that most were were enslaved by being “owned.”

  107. lambchop Says:

    Jameis Winston possible landing spots:

    1) Pittsburgh
    2) Cleveland
    3) Washington
    4) Detroit
    5) Denver

All of these teams have old QBs, ineffective QBs, or have the cap room to make a deal. His market is dry because he’s asking for too much, wants to start, and he’s coming off of lasik and knee surgery! We can’t even get physicals for healthy players done, teams are not going to jump the gun on Jameis without a physical. Same problem with Cam Newton. Teams have the luxury of waiting on these two questionable QBs until further notice.

I think Jameis may get signed around the draft or have to wait for an injury during the season (less likely it takes that long).

  108. lambchop Says:

    @Oneilbucs,

If the Bucs can, they will draft a QB this year or next and have him groom under Tom or they get one in FA next year.

This offense (and defense indirectly) does not need a Tom Brady in his prime to make it move. They just need a smart QB to move the sticks without turning the ball over. Let the weapons be your play makers.

  109. sincethebeginning Says:

I posted about this yesterday somewhere on here, but I still believe that the best place for Jameis is to backup Big Ben in Pittsburgh. He better be humble enough to take that offer when it comes. And when Mike Tomlin talks to him, he better listen. To every syllable. Like his career depends on it.

  110. stpetebucsfan Says:

    lambchop

Agree with you that Pittsburgh is his best bet because Big Ben is near the end and he plays roughly the same style.

Cleveland just signed their backup for Baker…Case Keenum. They no longer have the need and they have their own issues heading into year three with Baker…not sure he’d be comfortable looking at JW over his shoulder.

  111. D1 Says:

    St pete,

Baker would have no problem whatsoever with winston waiting in the wings.
In fact, it’s a great idea. Baker is an underdog and he responds well to a challenge.

I did read some seemingly drug induced comments suggesting the bucs didn’t do anything to help winston. Now it may not be drugs , a traumatic Brain injury could be the cause but no matter, the organization placed winston in the middle and built around him. The team literally made all decisions with the idea of “how does this effect winston.”

Thankfully, that winston-centric process is no longer in play. The organization can finally chart a course forward.
    Blessed is Brady.
