Beau Allen Joins The Belicheats
March 19th, 2020The Bucs got Tom Brady, and the Patriots got defensive tackle Beau Allen.
Remember when Bucs general manager Jason Licht signed that two-headed Eagles Super Bowl monster to fix the defensive line?
The first was Vinny Curry, who didn’t really want to be in Tampa, so he admitted after he pocketed mounds of Team Glazer loot.
And the other was Allen, who battled injuries and just not being very good over two Bucs seasons. He did, however, like to smoke cigars, wear funny shirts and give money to charity.
Per NFL Network, Allen is a new member of the New England Patriots, signing a two-year, $8 million deal. And that usually means he’ll now become a 10-sack, run-stuffing fiend. Anyone remember Chris Jones? The Bucs waved goodbye to him and he shined as a rookie and won a Super Bowl ring.
Bottom line: the Bucs shouldn’t miss Allen and Joe wishes him well.

Good riddance.

i WISH HIM WELL

Well….there goes the extra money for Brady……Beau was due to make $5 mil in 2020…….
Or….we can say it went with Nassib….
Allen simply wasn’t an impact player…..a backup…..serviceable….OK but not great…..a 4th round DT should be able to replace him.

Meh, replaced far cheaper by a 4th or 5th rd pick -spot rotational try hard guy -good fit for their D scheme – not strong or fast enough for ours

I still wouldnt mind a trade down scenario and taking Marlon Davidson….but i think our D is good other than FS. We need RT, RB and WR unless Perriman comes back to us cheap.

Are you sure we’re talking about the same Chris Jones? Didn’t sound right…your link goes to a very different Chris Jones than the Chiefs have on their defensive line.
This is the Chris Jones the Bucs gave up. The link is correct.–Joe

MadMax … So right now we’re 1 DE short (Nassib), 3 DTs short (Suh, Allen & Nunez-Roches), 1 RT short (Dotson), 1 RB short (Barber), 1 WR #3 short (Perriman) & 1 Safety short in terms of either starters or rotational players. Heck that’s only 8 players, NOT counting DEPTH of course. Oops, I forgot … a backup QB (hopefully a rookie to learn from Brady?). And oh ya, we’ve now got less than $20 mil left in salary Cap to accomplish all that with after signing Brady, JPP & Shaq.
Are you really sure that you want to trade down? IMO the Bucs better have an awesome draft that produces at least 3 starters/rotational guys on offense (RT, RB, #3 WR) AND 1 DT & 1 DE to rotate in on defense. That’s a BIG ask.

Defense – On Brady contract, we dont know the real details of the CBA yet and how it will impact contract. Brady will attract FA players….and all the contract terms are not released…could be alot of signing bonuses, LTBE and NLTBE and other things to squeeze the lemon. When you did your calc, are you using the new 2020 CAP of 198 million?
Im just saying there is a lot to consider. If they want you, they will find a way.
Im excited to see Brady v Brees and Brady v Rodgers in 2020

Great depth player. So far we have been able to keep our core together on defense minus Suh but it seems our depth pieces are getting picked off a little bit with us also losing Nassib, with the arrival of Brady we need to really hit on several of these draft picks.

D Line is big question mark now. Gotta sign some bodies . Suh Gholston back
March 19th, 2020 at 8:40 am
DR here’s your solution to your shortage of players: Re-sign Suh, Nunez-Roches, Ryan Smith, Blake Gabbert and Minter. Should easily be less than $20M. Select a RT in the 1st (best available), DT (TX A&M DT or best available) in the 2nd, WR (Claypool), S and RB (Dillon) in 3rd and 4th rounds. Your Nassib replacement is already on the roster Anthony Nelson. Though I would like to pick up an additional guard/center or edge rusher if we swap 1st rd picks with Philly and get an extra 2nd rd pick. We could also trade OJ for a 2nd and 4th; this seems less likely now as Brady loves his TEs.
What’s the wild card? LT of course. Do you trade a 2nd rd pick for Trent Williams? I would say yes, but its doubtful we could fit him under the cap. What about trading Donovan Smith and a late rd pick for him? The Redskins may go for that since Smith is in the last year of his contract. Maybe that’s an option. Hope the Bucs at least consider it and maybe pick up the phone.

Gholston is under contract for 2020 at $4.75M (too much).

We still need money to sign draft picks aswell

Bucs Guy … Certainly is a LOT to consider right now in terms of TEAM-BUILDING. IMO Brady didn’t come here to watch us pour mega-millions into our DEFENSE. Granted none of us know the details of his contract, but several reports have it north of $30 mil. Seriously doubt he’ll be giving the Bucs any type of home-town discount.
The draft is the key IMO because we don’t have a whole bunch of $$$ to play with right now (and even worse, we’ve only got 56 players under contract, some of whom will certainly not be on the roster come Game 1). IOW, we still need to sign a LOT of quality players if we expect to be a contender. With PROBABLY less than $20 mil remaining after Brady inks his contract, Bucs have some really hard choices to make about guys already under contract.
I agree with re-signing Suh (I see him as our top priority right now), as well as re-signing Nunez-Roches, Ryan Smith and Minter. I’d also re-sign Andrew Adams, Barber, Dotson, Watford BTW IF the price is right, but not Gabbert (we pretty much have to draft a rookie now, and keeping Griffin seems preferable to me).
I guess I see Will Gholston as being a lot more valuable than you do ($4.75 mil is a good value IMO). Will can play inside & outside, and he’s super against the run. Todd Bowles must think quite a bit of him since he got almost 44% defensive snaps last year in rotational duty.
And Sarasota, Over-the-Cap estimates that the Bucs will need $7.8 mil to sign our 2020 draft picks. Interestingly, they estimate that the Dolphins will need $18.1 mil to sign theirs (more picks). Wow!

Are we subtracting Allen, Nassib and soon Perriman’s salaries from your cap calculations? Just curious.
