Door No. 3: Andy Dalton?

A seasoned, accomplished and astute student of AFC football has weighed in on what he thinks is a viable option for the Buccaneers at quarterback.
Joe doesn’t agree with the take, but Joe can’t ignore it when it’s Phil Simms and he notes that he has watched every Bengals game of Dalton. Simms, of course, is the lead game analyst for CBS.
“I think Tampa, their backup plan that really fits them, to me, is Andy Dalton,” Simms told his son’s webcast, Chris Simms Unbuttoned,
“You know, he fits their offense. He’s not afraid to throw it down the field. He’s mobile, can move around enough to buy time when he needs it. And I think he’s definitely an above average thrower in the league, and I think we saw a little of that last year. Cincinnati had no chance to win unless he was in the lineup. I know they just won one, but he gave them a chance to win quite a few games.”
The problem with Dalton, other than the obvious, is that he’s under contract and a trade would be required. As of noon today, the Bucs effectively will have no starting quarterback.
As Joe has noted previously, Dalton, 33, could be the kind of guy Bucco Bruce Arians falls in love with. He had a career winning record (including those playoff losses), and he’s got a live arm and protects the football. Plus, Arians spent a lot of time in 2018 covering low-rung AFC games for CBS, which means watching many NFL films.

Brady isn’t the only option and just about any quarterback will be an improvement because they would better protect the which apparently a lot of bucs fans dont seem to think is important because yards per game matters most, something a lot of people were saying when he was throwing for 4000 yards and racking up yards per game but not scoring touchdowns.
He should be kissing ba’s arse and thanking him for the coaching he received, he only had 4 coaches devoted to making him better

Man Andy Dalton is trash bro . If I’m Jamies I wouldn’t want to be in Tampa no more . Then I will be just like McCoy when he said we were a losing team . And people got mad but he wasn’t lieing we are a losing team and it’s not because of 1 or 2 people . Since Jamies been here this offense has been ranked at the top five every year and that’s without a runninggame . But go ahead and blame one guy . When will Bruce get blame for anything ??

I know this would upset people but I really suggest they watch a little more of Dalton. Hes actually similar to Winston in that he has some fearless factor in taking big shots, and hes safer with the ball.

It doesn’t matter. Bruce right now knows the hole he got himself into is bigger than what he thought .
So he’s just saving his nickname “qb whisperer “, and record. He’s shooting for hall of fame.
If he wanted to win he would got control of the team. Call plays. Jump out of the golf cart.
He’s trying to reinvent the wheel. What should he do is fix jameis only problem. By him calling plays and adjusting.
Why fix something that is not broken. Our offense is good. We need a complete RB.

Funny how JW and Daltons stats are kinda similar within their first 5 years. Of course JW has thrown for more yards but the tds are similar and of course the ints are lower for dalton.
And before anyone @‘s me, dalton had a 33 td season but only had 20 ints that year lol

Dalton has had some pretty impressive years when he had a younger and healthy AJ Green along with a running game. I wouldn’t be against him coming to Tampa.

I think Dalton has a bad rap. He was very good when he had receivers around him. He’s only 32. I think Pepsi said it perfectly, he’s very much like Jameis but he protects the ball better and makes good decisions. Honestly, he’s my first choice.

OMG, I just realized something….WE ARE THE KNICKS!!!! Let’s get rid of D Rose, C Anthony, K Porzingis… don’t worry fans, trust us. We ware only 1 player away so we are going to get rid of all of our known talent for unknown talent. It has worked great for us for the last 30 years. We will find the next great QB off the scrap heap, another teams trash appears to be our treasure. Jameis is and has been our best option. If this was Tom Brady from 2010… sign me up. He will get killed not only behind this line but Arians made it clear this offense will get our QB hit more. And you fools want a 43 year old guy. Yes he is the G.O.A.T and we all know this, but not anymore. This is foolishness!!

Obviously every QB option has some level of risk to it. I’m worried about Brady’s age for basically for a year to win it all. I would only draft a QB later to back up a veteran we sign. I want nothing to do with Winston. So give me Dalton, or Bridgewater or Carr as less of a risk than the other options. Cousins just resigned a big deal with Minnesota and I would take either of the 3 guys I mentioned over him!

The more I think about Rivers, I think he could do very well in this offense. He’s 38, so realistically he has 3-4 more years. Can’t wait!!! Go Bucs!!

I don’t think Andy Dalton is that great but here is the thing… He is AS GOOD if not slightly better than Winston but cheaper… Idc what anyone says their first five years in this league are identical if any as others stated Andy was WAY better in the turn over department. I don’t know how anyone can say with a straight face that Winston is leaps and bounds better than Dalton. As for knocking Andy on “not being a winner” What the hell has Winston done?????

I wouldn’t want anything to do with Dalton, I would take Carr but if the Raiders or Bengals part with either of those fb’s I don’t see anyone trading for them. I’d like to keep Winston for one season. Two year deal one year guaranteed, Winston will tear it up. Beef up the line in the draft, retain the defensive line. If Jameis must go the only guy I would feel comfortable with is Derek Carr. Don’t want Rivers, Teddy, Dalton I’d keep Jameis over all of them. Whoever is under center Leftwich needs to keep the offense more balanced and stop being so predictable on run plays. Always up the middle with one wr lined up outside. Thats what makes great play callers GREAT! It’s not just the types of plays your calling but when you call them.

Adrnagy, I agree. I was the happiest fan on the planet when they hired Arians but was pissed when the said Leftwich was calling plays. He’s better and the players respond to Arians. If Bruce wanted to win he would call the plays. I think that’s the main reason Bruce wants Brady is so that he can take Leftwich off of play calling without hurting his feelings and just let Brady call the shots. ” Here Byron, you can still hold the clipboard but Tom will decide what is best.:

Dalton is good, but he won’t be draft capital free to trade for. Giving up draft picks when there is a big free agent supply seems unlikely.
