The Bucs & Leonard Fournette
March 15th, 2020Fresh news today reveals more evidence of the fire sale happening in Jacksonvile.
Five-time Pro Bowl defensive end Calais Campbell and his massive salary were traded to Baltimore for a fifth-round pick. The Jaguars have made multiple moves to tear apart their talented defense, in addition to them lacking a quality starting quarterback and DE stud Yannick Ngakoue saying goodbye to fans while still being under team control.
It’s a mess in Jacksonville and Joe expects more change there, which brings Joe to Jags running back Leonard Fournette. He can run and he can catch, and he’s 25 years old coming off his best season, 1,152 yards rushing and 76 receptions.
It sure feels like Fournette, who has had his share of issues in Jacksonville, is the exact kind of player that would flourish with a change of scenery and specifically in a Bucs offense that doesn’t have defenses keying on the run every darn snap.
He’s got a year remaining on his rookie deal ($4 million) plus a fifth-year option.
Yes, if Joe were Bucco Bruce Arians and Jason Licht, Joe would be calling Jacksonville to see if they want to deal Fournette. Whatever Arians has said about his “solid” running game, thinking Bucs fans know that’s baloney. The run game must be fixed, and the sooner the Bucs do it, the more flexibility they’ll have in free agency and the draft.
Joe absolutely would consider trading a young talented Buccaneer for Fournette as part of a package. Tight end is a major need for the Jaguars and has been for years.

NFL Network reported Campbell was traded for a 5th round pick.

It will be the Bucs in a “fire sale” next year!!!!!!! Just another reason for team glazer to only allow 1 year deals for all of the free agents needed to fill out the lacking roster called the bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wouldn’t the Jags like to have a 5000 yard QB?
March 15th, 2020 at 1:55 pm
I hope GM Tom Brady gives this some serious consideration
March 15th, 2020 at 1:57 pm
Lmao about these fat contracts, Joe. Said prior we will be having a fire sale next year with very good players could be lost. If anything we should buy a stud 25 year old RT and not have to worry about the learning process. RBs in the second.

Maybe trade OJ Howard for Fournette ?
March 15th, 2020 at 2:04 pm
Fournette would be worth it for a 5th round pick.
March 15th, 2020 at 2:25 pm
Remember when lots of Bucs fans were saying we should follow the Jags model and hire a Football Guru (Tom Coughlin-like) to run the franchise? Yeah, that worked well in Jacksonville.
March 15th, 2020 at 2:44 pm
Another day another article wishing for a RB we could and should acquire, but deep down, we all know it’s not happening…

That would be awesome.
March 15th, 2020 at 3:20 pm
I’d draft jonathan Taylor and his 4 year rookie deal over trading for 1 year of Fournette any day.
March 15th, 2020 at 3:26 pm
I saw where Fournette’s cap hit for 2020 would be $8.6 million, with base salary of about $4 million. If we traded for him and his cap hit to us would be $4 mil, maybe. If it’s $8.6 mil, no thanks.
March 15th, 2020 at 3:55 pm
I’d prefer a top pass catching back, but no way in hell I’d say no to Fournette. If you can get him straight up for OJ, make it happen.
March 15th, 2020 at 3:57 pm
Dude has a bad attitude. No thanks.
March 15th, 2020 at 4:27 pm
Yep…..they could use a good young TE……..Tanner Hudson straight up…..
March 15th, 2020 at 4:40 pm
Beast
Heck ya this is a definite pick up if we can
March 15th, 2020 at 4:43 pm
Rod, He had 76 receptions last season. I’d say that that makes him a top pass catcher. If you can get him for a mid round pick you do it every day. The team would have him under control for 2 season and you let him walk after that. If you draft a player in rounds 4-5 there is only a 20% or less chance of that player having a productive NFL career. So why wouldn’t you take a known quantity over a crap shoot.
March 15th, 2020 at 4:55 pm
I look at fournette as just another power back, nothing special. Rather look to the draft for a RB.

bad click bait joe

@Greg … “Remember when lots of Bucs fans were saying we should follow the Jags model and hire a Football Guru (Tom Coughlin-like) to run the franchise? Yeah, that worked well in Jacksonville.”
In actuality I’d say that we did just that Greg when we hired Bruce Arians. BA seems to be acting very much along the lines of a President of Football Operations, as well as a HC. My guess is that he has even more ‘power’ (control?) than Jon Gruden had while he was here.
I personally like the majority of the personnel decisions that’ve been made in this past year with him at the helm. He started with a crappy salary Cap situation, but managed that very adeptly, plus did very well in last year’s draft. This year will be even trickier though IMO.

You’re on point Joe! 💯 💯 💯
March 15th, 2020 at 10:48 pm
I’d trade underachieving, rarely used, Howard for underachieving, malcontent, Fournette any day. Sad but true.

Joe, it’s not who is toting the football it’s who is opening holes for the football toter. Jim Brown ain’t doing much behind this line.

Draft a guy like AJ Dillion in the 3rd is you want a power back…Better value.
March 16th, 2020 at 9:59 am
For what we used our runningbacks we don’t run the football at all so why get him ??
March 16th, 2020 at 10:03 am
Melvin Gordon from the Charges is a much better fit and look for him in a BUCS uniform in 2020.
