A Common Brady Myth & Arians On Brady

Joe often hears the profound silliness that Tom Brady gets rid of the ball so darn fast he can’t thrive in a Bruce Arians downfield offense.
Hard, satellite and computer-driven data says otherwise.
Official NFL NextGen Stats tracks “Time To Throw” with sensors in balls and equipment; “Time to Throw” measures the average amount of time elapsed from snap to throw on every pass attempt for a passer (sacks excluded).”
Guess what Jameis Winston averaged last season? 2.77 seconds in “Time to Throw.” Brady averaged 2.75 seconds. Those measurements were about exactly in the middle of the pack among NFL quarterbacks.
Teddy Bridgewater, Derek Carr, Aaron Rodgers, Kirk Cousins, Ryan Tannehill all had a longer “Time to Throw” average than Jameis and Brady.
What’s interesting is that Carson Palmer was at 2.49 seconds “Time to Throw” in 2016, among the quickest triggers in the NFL. And Arians’ true QB love, Blaine Gabbert, led the NFL at 2.42 seconds during his five starts in 2017 under Arians in Arizona.
Back in 2016, Arians talked about Brady at the NFL coaches breakfast with media (where Joe snapped the photo above).
“Tom has great instincts in the pocket,” Arians said. “He’s never been a scrambler, but he can avoid a throw in the pocket very accurately, very much like Peyton [Manning]. You would never think of them as runners, but they were very athletic in that pocket as far as moving over and still getting the ball out of their hand quickly and accurately.”
Ahh, elite pocket movement to buy a fraction of a second before the quick-trigger throw. Bucs fans have watched that through the years with Drew Brees and Matt Ryan. Jameis improved his in-pocket movement over the years, but it never rose to a special level.
Outside of the pocket is where Jameis has been among the very best.

JW does play a lot of sandlot style football. It can be fun to watch. Him being half sacked and trying to throw it away like he’s playing hot potato, not so much.

A deal is done with Brady….if that falls through, Bucs will provide Bridgewater the highest offer soothing his ego to be the second option. Winston is done, I think they’ll run with Gabbert and a rookie if all other options are gone.

It’s all between the ears……Brady, Brees, Rodgers, Wilson……they are smart with the football……
Jameis simply doesn’t see the field well and it costs him dearly.
Give him another shot but I’m fearful that he won’t change.

Yeah the guy that is number 2 all-time in both yards and TDs under the age of 26 isn’t good at anything and just can’t see the field at all. Makes perfect sense..

It doesn’t matter who the quarterback is going to be we are still going to lose . We can’t run the ball are play defense so it doesn’t matter . It’s just this time you can’t blame Jamies this time so who will be the scapegoat now is the question ??? Man I can’t wait until the season starts lol lol lol .

I am very surprised that Jameis has an average time to throw… hard to reconcile with watching the games and hollerin through the TV for him to get rid of it but I guess the stats are what they are.
Very encouraging to read at least one Joe admitting Brady will be fine in this offense. At $30 or less I’m ecstatic with Brady… start to get worried about FAs if he really wants and we decide to pay up to $40.

other than dotson, another reason why we couldnt run the ball is because DCs planned to stuff the run and force JW to pass…..lol…
sadly, DCs and defenses were never scared of JW in this offense….they knew INTs would come soon and often….lol….
DCs told defenders, stop and the run, play tight coverage…follow his eyes and INTs will come…..and thats exactly what happened week in and week out…..
that wont happen under teddy…..teddy wont force passes and he’ll keep defenses honest…..

but the JW nuthuggers wont tell you that….lol….we had the worst o-line in the league according to them…lol….

What matters is how fast a QB can read the progressions and how the play develops. Brady can see when and where a play will open and waits for it.
Jameis just kind of seems to wait until the primary receiver might be open and tosses it close to there.
I would rather see Brady play, even when he is fifty.

I think Winston’s average isn’t that useful. He was erratic like rest of his okay. Sometimes he got it off quickly other times when he took a lot of his sacks he’s holding holding holding and you’re like dammit man just do something with it already. At times I counted like 5 seconds before hr was sacked

It’s not the release time, it’s the mental recognization of the defense, the ability to process that information so you can exploit weak points of the defense.
