Report: Bucs Plan Is To Move On From Jameis
March 11th, 2020This is being typed as fact, so Joe is sharing.
Over at the imploding local newspaper operation, the Tampa Bay Times, beat writer Rick Stroud did a lot of typing this morning about the Bucs’ official plan at quarterback.
He worked really hard to make sure readers are aware that the Bucs’ plan and goal (not Stroud’s opinion) is to end the Jameis Winston era next week.
The nutshell quote version of Stroud’s long story is below.
What’s the pecking order for the Bucs?
After Brady, it’s Bridgewater and then Rivers, in that order.
None of this surprises Joe, as regular readers here are aware. And Joe has written multiple times that Joe is just fine with the Bucs landing a Tom Brady or Philip Rivers and then drafting a quarterback in Round 1 of the draft next month. Bridgewater for Jameis and not drafting a QB early, well, Joe would not be cheerleading that call.
The Bucs have done everything they can lately to let everyone know they care little about Jameis’ football future. But Joe would be stunned if the Bucs have completely written him off. Free agency certainly doesn’t always go as planned, especially when you’re the Bucs.

I been tellin ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BRADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
March 11th, 2020 at 12:37 pm
Word on the street, is that ole Bruce Arians, is looking for the white, errrrrr I mean right Quarterback, to work with!!!!!!! Like the “right” ones that he worked with before!!!!!!!!!!!!!
go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!
March 11th, 2020 at 12:38 pm
Clueless Joe, Ndog and Jameis1of1 will be crying hard over a guy who will be a backup in 2020
March 11th, 2020 at 12:39 pm
@robert… sorry. more like bridgewater, dalton or jameis.
March 11th, 2020 at 12:42 pm
@ el buco, you mean like NE’s OL????
March 11th, 2020 at 12:42 pm
Any of those as long as they draft a QB early. In BA I trust.
March 11th, 2020 at 12:43 pm
Is this or is this not the same clown who wrote last off-season that we were keeping Gerald?
I’d love to be able to read this and trust but I just can’t.
March 11th, 2020 at 12:45 pm
Oh right like Bryon Leftwitch. Good Lord you are a creep. Lay the sauce down.
March 11th, 2020 at 12:46 pm
Back to the toilet bowl we go this franchise will be set back for 10 years by the time Licht and “whispers” are fired next year for going 5-11 the this is the QB first year excuse should not hold water!
March 11th, 2020 at 12:47 pm
ok, till then it’s still speculation.
March 11th, 2020 at 12:47 pm
So, as I’ve posted before, if JW3 is NOT “the guy”, then the amount to pay him makes absolutely no difference, even if it is a relative pittance, and therefore I hope we move on.
To me, the next question is can the Bucs win enough next year to get in the playoffs? If that answer is NO, then the best option at QB becomes the best available CHEAP option as a “bridge QB” and drafting their next stab at a “franchise QB”. (And moving up in the draft as necessary, and using as much draft capital/players as that takes to get your choice of QB). That allows keeping the rest of the team intact, and below the salary cap. Unfortunately, that likely wastes the next year, waiting for a long-term answer at “franchise QB” to develop.
That looks like this:
– Start Gabbert, Keenum, Glennon, or Dalton, and draft a future QB in the 1st round. My choices would be: Herbert> Eason> Fromm>Tua>>Love.
If the answer is YES, and you think you can get to the playoffs, and try to win NOW, then the choices are the best QB you can get regardless of cost, or long-term viability.
That looks like this:
-Sign Brady>Rivers for short-term shot at playoffs, and again draft a QB.
or consider a longer term perspective with Carr(not a free agent)>Tannehill>Bridgewater>Dalton.
JMHO.

March 11th, 2020 at 12:50 pm
Love Tom Brady but not sure at age 43.
March 11th, 2020 at 12:51 pm
what if :
the season is cancelled this summer due to coronavirus, and everyone is scavenging in the streets like in a mad max apocalyptic world…
then it all means nothing
March 11th, 2020 at 12:54 pm
My opinion is that letting Winston walk will go down along the same line as letting Doug Williams go, would be a enormous blunder.
March 11th, 2020 at 12:55 pm
All smoke, Jameis will be back. This is nothing more than a negotiation tactic…Go Bucs
March 11th, 2020 at 12:55 pm
if the bucs sign brady, his jersey, combined with the new uniform, will be top seller in the league…
if…
the bucs don’t totally flop out on the design
March 11th, 2020 at 12:55 pm
So Winston defenders on here, can you tell us just who is going to sign Jaymiss if he hits the open market? Peter King said he couldn’t find a landing spot for Jaymiss …
March 11th, 2020 at 12:55 pm
and they will set the franchise back 10 yrs
and Jameis will come back to haunt us
March 11th, 2020 at 12:56 pm
Brady @ 43 is probably in better shape than most 33 yr olds the way he handles his diet. He’s the Jimmy Johnson of football. the GOAT. heck, probably better shape than jw and less injury prone (knock on wood)
March 11th, 2020 at 12:57 pm
Best news for jameis since he won the national championship
March 11th, 2020 at 12:58 pm
Playing for bucs is a disgrace not a privilege or honor.
March 11th, 2020 at 12:58 pm
They want him but you cant being him back after you blamed him for the losing
March 11th, 2020 at 1:00 pm
Thank God!!!!
March 11th, 2020 at 1:01 pm
Many fans maybe too young to know about our QB curse on this Franchise it is called the Doug Williams Curse. We let our starting QB go over money.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:01 pm
Oh Jameis will have options if necessary…probably since they won Super Bowls with the other talented players you idiots couldn’t wait to run outta town….Talib and Blunt…it’s a race thing with most of yall.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:02 pm
Hard to agree that a 43 year old can continue to hold up physically and competitively, especially if the o line does not improve.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:03 pm
If I am Winston contact Sean Payton to be Brees backup and learn from two of the best. Then when Brees retires he can play the Bucs twice a year.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:03 pm
TexBuc this would be about performance, not money. Therefore the curse does not apply.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:04 pm
Rick Stroud has proven himself clown over and over, he also has unabashedly bashed Jameis since the day we drafted him….yep, he’s a great source, SMDH!!
March 11th, 2020 at 1:05 pm
Music to my ears
March 11th, 2020 at 1:05 pm
I remember Steve Young running for his life on pass plays and when we traded him to 49ers I am sure he become deeply religious believing GOD answered his prayers.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:05 pm
Why would you want a 43-year-old QB? That would be a bad idea gone wrong. You need to spend money on keeping the D and you would waste it on an aging QB with a weak OL. That goes also for Rivers. You build with youth. What good is a one and done, we did that with Chucky and have been in the Toliet ever since.

#1 Pick QB
Did u watch the film? No!
So the GM, oline, RBs, Kicker, and swiss cheese secondary had nothing to do with the losing right? Loser as$ fan base.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:07 pm
Ironic the Glazers fired Chucky for repeatedly starting older QBs and developing a drafted QB.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:07 pm
There was a 4 or 5 game stretch towards the end of last season that Winston played some of his best football as a Buc. I started to think “By George I think he’s got it!”… But then the final two games of the season showed me that he didn’t have it and he may never have it.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:08 pm
Correction NOT developing a drafted QB.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:08 pm
So, this pretty much assures us that JW3 will be back.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:09 pm
Music to our ears….A fresh start with a Defense! (sign the FAs) intact. This is a playoff recipe. WinSTUNNED alone would destroy that chance. Proven fact….
March 11th, 2020 at 1:10 pm
Final two games corresponds to playing with a fractured thumb in his throwing hand.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:10 pm
It will be such a shame if we let Jameis go when in the 5 years we had him…..he never had a defense.
Not. Once.
Or a general manager for that matter……Licht sucks!
March 11th, 2020 at 1:11 pm
Just got my Brady Bucs jersey, already on amazon.
have to have prime though.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:11 pm
Hope they can trade for dalton or carr and just move fwd; think brady is just too old to get it done these days
March 11th, 2020 at 1:11 pm
Good luck to you Jameis. Nothing personal…and maybe you can outgrow your propensity to make bone head throws at the worst possible time. The talent is there…but you have run out your string here. Nothing personal…strictly business.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:12 pm
@Marine Buc
The final to games he was injured and playing without his pro bowl receivers.
But still made Periman look like a starting receiver….you sleep bro
March 11th, 2020 at 1:12 pm
Stroud literally just told me himself less than 30 minutes ago that Jameis is still in play.
SMH
This is not a lie.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:12 pm
Guys you don’t get it do you? It’s not about loving Jameis or who else is going to sign him it’s about what’s best for THIS team for now and the long run. Jameis is the best for this team now and the future but instead we are likely to either go with and old washed up has been or a guy multiple teams have already moved on from.
It just makes me sick to my stomach to know we could have finally seen a complete team with Jameis and just as we were about to get it they screw it up. Well that’s the Bucs for us, I should not be surprised.
Just ask Doug Williams, Bo Jackson, Steve Young, Michael Bennett, Aquib Taleb, Lagrette Blount, Trent Dilfer and many many others that lived it first hand.
All I know it’s going to be almost impossible to get excited about this team next year
March 11th, 2020 at 1:14 pm
Ahhh Jean…
The fragile skirts are always at it, for some reason
March 11th, 2020 at 1:14 pm
Awesome!! This just made my day.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:15 pm
Can’t wait to see the Jameis supporters heads explode next week as the Bucs officially welcome in their new signal caller and bid farewell to the ATM!
It’s gonna be fun on the bun!
March 11th, 2020 at 1:15 pm
This is not fact. It’s another garbage “analyst “ or “reporter” with their own opinion base on there research.
Let the cannons fire the real news.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:15 pm
Signing Brady for 2 years would be completely irresponsible for the Bucs to so as it totally ignores the future of the franchise.
2 years of Brady then fall of a cliff into a complete unknown.
You Brady lovers think it’s easy to find a QB in the draft? It’s not.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:15 pm
Here’s hoping but knowing the Bucs…
March 11th, 2020 at 1:16 pm
I keep telling my patriot fan buddy that we’re going to win 6 super bowls in a row with Brady and he’ll go into the HOF as a Buc!!
March 11th, 2020 at 1:16 pm
If you people have not learned a damn thing yet. Until it is official you believe Nothing written anywhere here or any other place about team players.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:18 pm
Brady is no answer, a temporary bandaid…Dalton is the guy! and a high draft pick…
March 11th, 2020 at 1:19 pm
Of course Jameis will have options. There are still plenty of teams who won’t sign Colin Kaepernick.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:19 pm
@ Texbuc
Every player in the NFL at week 16 and 17 have nagging injuries that they are dealing with. You still have to get the job done when called upon. No more excuses. When called upon Winston failed time and time again. It’s been 5 years of mediocre and sometimes horrific QB play from Jamies. Not just the final 2 games of last year.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:21 pm
BA is putting all his chips in, he is looking for someone to get this team to the playoffs and make a run. I doubt he will be here any longer than 2 more years. Thing is if this doesn’t work out he might be escorted out with Licht and the whole reset happens again.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:21 pm
It says on Rick Strouds twitter that Jameis may still be an option.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:25 pm
jjbucfan Says:
“Rick Stroud has proven himself clown over and over, he also has unabashedly bashed Jameis since the day we drafted him”
~~~~~
I definitely do not think Rick Stroud deserves the “clown” label. He has been at this for a very long time, and is well respected, not just here, but by those in the National media.
He has also not been a Jameis basher since day 1. There have been many times that he was very much in favor of Jameis, and other times that he was very critical of Jameis. Doesn’t that basically sound like most of the rest of us?
March 11th, 2020 at 1:25 pm
I don’t mind the prediction that Bucs may part ways with Jameis. For all of his positives and negatives, the most glaring thing for me has always been how he is a very slow starter. Rivers is kind of the same though. I love Rivers, but he is not razor sharp with his accuracy or decision-making anymore. It is honestly Brady or bust. We are not seriously competing for a playoff spot with the likes of Bridgewater, Rivers or Dalton. Bridgewater’s positives are not enough to overcome the shaky O-line play and inconsistent run game. Just because he doesn’t throw interceptions doesn’t mean all is well.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:26 pm
El Buco Realisto,
I’m so tired of everything about race. If the Bucs move on and sign Bridgewater, is your dumb@@s going to come back and apologize for being an idiot? I bet not.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:27 pm
tickdr
Agree totally with that analysis.
El Realisto…why must some dolt always try to drag race into ANY situation. There are obviously times when it’s appropriate but there are even more times when it doesn’t have ANYTHING to do with what is being discussed.
Now explain my ignorance…I always assumed Teddy Bridgewater was black I did not know he was white.
BTW…Barring Brady…the GOAT who would give us a shot of instant credibility and perhaps finally launch our long awaited “culture change” is my first choice and he is white…but if he doesn’t make it Bridgewater would be my choice and he is ????
March 11th, 2020 at 1:28 pm
A legit Vet QB, draft one to develop and Superbowl in Tampa with the Buccaneers winning!
Unpossible! 🙂
March 11th, 2020 at 1:29 pm
So now, the end is near; He’ll travel each and every highway.
He had a chance in December to secure his future.
But, JayMiss literally threw away his family’s financial security.
He did it his way
Another wasted draft pick
Peace, out
March 11th, 2020 at 1:31 pm
I will root for my Bucs regardless of who is behind center.
I will also cringe every time (Brady,Rivers,Bridgewater) drops back for a pass, because I’ll know that we are one hit/injury away from Blaine Gabbert starting the rest of the season and a very early pick in the next draft.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:33 pm
If money is basically equal I’d prefer Jameis over Teddy B all day long. I’d rather risk it with a reckless gunslinger with a high ceiling than a “meh” game manager with some upside (basically Garrapolo 2.0 IMO). Brady even at 43 is definitely worth a $30M roll of the dice IMO. I’m ok with Dalton or Carr as bridge QB’s. Rivers at this junction scares me, but if Arians sees something left in the tank then so be it. Regardless of who they land I think the Bucs would be wise to draft a QB early in this year’s draft.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:34 pm
MarineBuc
So you think that the starting WR core of…..
1- Breshad Perriman
2- Justin Watson
3- Scotty Miller
4- God Know Who
Is NFL material? Not to mention, 2 head cases at TE who couldn’t do squat the last 2 games.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:34 pm
Tag and trade shaq.
Draft Chaisson, Jonathan Taylor , aj epenesa.
Sign. Suh and Clowney.
All this can happen if we don’t sign the one year wonder.
Buccernutter Says:
“Stroud literally just told me himself less than 30 minutes ago that Jameis is still in play.”
Well the article ITSELF still points to that possibility. But he writes that the BUCS have other priorities FIRST, before JW, most notably of course, TB12.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:42 pm
Ndog Says:
“All I know it’s going to be almost impossible to get excited about this team next year”
~~~~
Ndog, I like your posts, and definitely respect your passion about Jameis Winston as a player. I too have been a fan and will be pulling hard for him to be successful, even if he is no longer here. (Might even get a jersey to wear, when the Bucs aren’t playing).
But are you really saying that if the BUCS started the season with Tom Brady as their QB… that you would not be excited AT ALL?
I respect whatever you say in response. I would just be surprised at that.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:42 pm
At this point hopefully we miss out on everyone and Jameis says peace out and then we can totally suck out loud. Then we can fire all of these idiots get the number one pick then we can build from there, cause it is clear if they bring in any of these bums, that they are playing for now and saying screw the future. So it is win the Superbowl or bust, and we all know they aren’t winning the Superbowl next year so the sooner these clowns are gone the better for us all.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:43 pm
The writing has been on the wall for quite a while now..
How fitting it will be if JW 1st and last pass as a Buc go down as interceptions.. he will be remembered for very little else…
The Bucs future has hope moving on from a guy that has been hold them back by all the games he has thrown away to the opponent…
Welcome to the next QB up and best of luck!
March 11th, 2020 at 1:43 pm
Realist is off the freaking deep end if he is going to insinuate anything racist about BA. My god man.
As for the take – it seems like this writing has been on the wall.
I am glad Bridgewater is favored over Rivers. The fact that Joe does not want Bridgewater is kind of an endorsement IMO (no offense).
I’m not sure where else Bridgwater would have a better match for what he could do with his career other than maybe San Diego, who is picking high in the draft and likely taking a QB
March 11th, 2020 at 1:44 pm
Wishful thinking for the majority of Buc fans. FYI: I don’t count FSU/Winston nut huggers at Buc fans, just dolts.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:46 pm
Duh…..dont know how anyone can read any of the reports coming out or anything the gm and coach have said and think winston is coming back. Dude throws too many picks and bucs know they cant win that way games are always too close so unless you’ll be lights out in the 4th that’s a losing formula see ya winston.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:47 pm
This would be disappointing and sad…….a guy with that much talent who simply failed to perform……he blew his last two games……perhaps took things for granted…..
He simply can’t be trusted going forward.
I believe he may have a shot somewhere else…..but 24 out of 30 of his interceptions were at home…..that’s incredible.
We need to save some money on the position and make a draft investment in a future QB no matter who we choose…..less necessary with Bridgewater because of his age.
If I had to make bets…..I’d say that it will be Rivers.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:48 pm
Nate Says:
“El Buco Realisto,
I’m so tired of everything about race.”
~~~~
Agreed. What in THE HELL would make you make such a statement about Bruce Arians? All 3 coordinators are African American. He basically took this JOB because he wanted to coach Jameis. — And it is still possible that Teddy Bridgewater could be our QB next year.
I just don’t get making it about race.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:49 pm
Really NDog…….Hopefully we lose if they disagree with your opinion. Now you don’t even sound love keep a Bucs fan at all.
Has you allowed Winston to shred your fandom this severely? That’s very weak. Thought you were a die-hard. Guess not.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:49 pm
Demon what is there to be excited about? Everyone keeps saying that we will change the offense for Brady but what know one is saying is who is his underneath slot WR going to be to get in and out of breaks quickly? Who is going to be his dynamic RB out of the backfield to win one on one all day? Where is his unbelievably talented TE that wins all day everyday and catches EVERYTHING? Where is his #8 overall running game to take the load off his old a$$?Where is his #1 defense in the league to keep him in games while he dinks and dunks people to death without a shifty slot WR, dominating TE and great running game? Lastly where is his elite kicker to win game after game for him, in the clutch, like he has had his entire career?
Answer all those questions for me then I might get excited.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:52 pm
Tbbf
This franchise set up jameis to fail from day one. Its all on the organization that has a track record of not being able to develop players. Hell bucs could not develop maggots from feces
March 11th, 2020 at 1:53 pm
In case you didn’t know Brady won titles with diddly for weapons on offense. He don’t require all time TEs to win. As for RB I’ll wager he can make those around him better(granted Winston has too)
He’ll be able to recruit a player or two he wants. And he could for sure make good use of Mike and chriss
March 11th, 2020 at 1:54 pm
Lil pup…keep crying it’s so entertaining. Ding dong ATMs gone. Life is good for Buc fans. Turnovers cause losses. Period. The turnover machine can take his cancer elsewhere. Some sucker team will regret signing him. Good riddance. Go Bucs!
March 11th, 2020 at 1:55 pm
Demon
This article states that their plan and goal is to move on from Jameis via Rick Stroud.
Sooooo…..
March 11th, 2020 at 1:57 pm
No JimmyJack that’s just it they are trying to put a bandaid on to stop a gushing wound. They don’t care about winning the Superbowl they just care about not looking HORRIBLE and in the process they are throwing our entire future away. So yes if they do this I will not celebrate going 10-6 and losing in the wildcard cause that means we threw out future away for what a freaking wildcard birth? Yeah I don’t plan on dying tomorrow so I care more about the long-term of this franchise instead of how people perceive Bruce Arains. Ask yourself this question, the first half of the season the defense was on pace to the worst of all time, the kicker was below average all year, we lead the league in penalities, we had crap depth for the secondary, running backs and oline. This off-season have you heard Arains take one single ounce of blame for the results?
Think about that and please respond and also think about the shape he left Arizona in.
I’m serious please think about it and respond as I want to know your thoughts once I point that out.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:58 pm
Brady is a home run…the other two will bring continued loosing.
March 11th, 2020 at 1:59 pm
Raiders vs Bucs, Jameis /Gruden vs Tampa, open the the new stadium in Vegas first monday night game!! BOOM!!!
March 11th, 2020 at 1:59 pm
LMAO The guy averaged a little over 5 wins a year but somehow letting him go will set us back according to the fan boys. Sure makes total sense. I wish Jameis well. I dont hate him personally like many others do. I just dont think he’s a good QB and he certainly didnt live up to the expectations of a #1 overall pick. Its time for my Bucs to move on and once again try to find a real franchise QB that will inject hope into this franchise. GO BUCS!!!
March 11th, 2020 at 2:00 pm
In every single way and aspect, it best for the team and franchise as a whole to move on from Winston.
March 11th, 2020 at 2:03 pm
Demon- I respect your position about Stroud- He was a Mariota guy and was very critical of the Winston pick. He has only been supportive when he can’t deny Winston’s ability. He really hasn’t backed him in any tough time. Like Marine Buc- talks about his last 2 games but doesn’t concede that he had a broken thumb on throwing hand, painful knee, no running game and the fact he had NO professional WR’s to throw to. BTW if the kicker does his job, JW doesn’t throw #30 and we are 8-8. As much as I like Marine Bucs posts, even if I don’t agree with all of them, he is only telling half the story in this case. These are not opinions or excuses of JWs last 2 games, these are the facts. My opinion is that I don’t personally care for him. Much like meteorologists being wrong, there is no consequences for throwing sh*t against the wall. In this case it hurts people (JW) in the process and if he is wrong, will go about his business with no consequence. Nowadays people would rather be “right” than have good things happen for their team or really that goes for life in general. It bothers me. If you have inside info so be it, if we resign Jameis he will look foolish, though he tried to cover is arse by saying he may be wrong. This makes it an opinion piece.
March 11th, 2020 at 2:04 pm
Marine
Just WOW so a fractured thumb on the throwing had of a QB is just a nagging injury to play thru at the end of the season? That is just silly as saying a WR playing thru a fractured thumb will not hurt his ability to catch the ball.
March 11th, 2020 at 2:04 pm
Buccernutter Says:
“Demon
This article states that their plan and goal is to move on from Jameis via Rick Stroud.”
~~~~~~~
It definitely does. But it still points out that if those plans fall through, that Jameis would still be an option. — Now whether Jameis would be open to returning after all that has happened…… that, i don’t know.
March 11th, 2020 at 2:07 pm
I’m ok with whatever BA wants to do at QB…I wonder why this information was leaked? To invite other teams to pursue JW? To signal to other QBs that they are serious in replacing JW and are not playing a negotiation game. We’ll know for sure soon…
March 11th, 2020 at 2:08 pm
I’m curious how not resigning a QB who has averaged 5 wins a year is going to set this franchise back for a decade. It’s a weak argument at best. Even if Winston becomes great with another team, what’s to say that the Bucs won’t get a QB that better for them and Arians’ scheme? The only reason why this franchise continues to stink is because it fails to move on from players when it’s clear that they can’t play. Other teams that win do this. We can’t seem to figure this out. Maybe Arians is teaching the franchise that this is how you win.
March 11th, 2020 at 2:08 pm
Rob no one is crying, I am just voicing my displeasure. As a longtime season ticket holder this is the one form I choose to do that in. And BTW can anyone please name all the great players that the Patriots let walk and go onto success elsewhere?
I’ll wait…
March 11th, 2020 at 2:08 pm
@TBBF … “If I had to make bets…..I’d say that it will be Rivers.”
I’d take that bet TBBF. My money’s on Jameis (primary), then Bridgewater (secondary), with Carr a distant third (doubtful IMO that Chucky will really give him up). I’m also not convinced that Bucs will draft a QB this year, UNLESS one happens to be there in say Rnd 4 or below who BA finds intriguing.
Still convinced that this whole charade is one giant smokescreen to drive the price down. BA is certain IMO that Jameis doesn’t really need as much ‘fixin’ as many seem to think. Fix the OLine & running game, achieve a better BALANCE in play-calling, incorporate the RBs & TEs more in the short passing game, and the giveaways will get cut in half (which BA has said is acceptable … 1 per game average).
March 11th, 2020 at 2:09 pm
Why not I think about Winston throwing away chances of victory multiple times this year. If the Box nude on his because they think they can get a quarterback who can win those games. That’s called upgrading. Is concerned Bruce Arians has had much success with developing young quarterbacks. Thank you very much.
And yes kicker and defense does need to be addressed like you said. But they’re poor play doesn’t mask mistakes made by the quarterback. Never has and never will. That’s called accountability
March 11th, 2020 at 2:10 pm
Reminder- we sold our soul once for a Super Bowl when we gave 2 years of top draft picks away for Gruden. Yes it was the best year of my football life but 20 years of losing later, not worth it!! Be careful what we wish for. Also- there better be f-ing creamsicle in this new uniform or I ain’t buying crap for new gear, LOL

Bo Jackson never suited up for the BUCS and never came to Tampa again after Culverhouse pulled his stunt to have BO fly down before it was time to end his collegiate career..
Bc he flew to Tampa he was no longer permitted to play Baseball for Auburn that year. As we know he loves Baseball as well! & that cemented his desire to NEVER play for the BUCS..
Typical Culverhouse move…
March 11th, 2020 at 2:12 pm
I’ve been a Buccaneer fan since 1976 when I moved here to the Tampa Bay area and through the good times and the bad times (Mostly bad) I have stayed loyal to my beloved Buccaneers. I have seen us get rid of Doug Williams, Steve Young, Vinny Testeverde, Trent Dilfer, Steve DeBerg and now possibly Jameis. Some of them have left and won SuperBowls and some have left and had success in other places.
But if the Bucs let Jameis walk for Captain Checkdown Bridgewater they will have lost me. Even in losing last year they were fun to watch, long passes for chunk yards, 30 plus points a game and if we has a semblance of a defense in the beginning of the year probably a winning record for the year. But with Captain checkdown all I can see is 14-17 points a game next year and boring not fun to watch football that is not what Arians has been for his career. I can’t root for Bridgewater as a starting QB, he is what he is a good backup that will make a great QB coach someday.
If it’s Brady, Rivers or Derek Carr in a trade I can live with that but my 1st choice would be a 1-2 year deal with Jameis and see what he could do with a second year in BA’s system, a fixed knee, a fixed broken thumb and 20-20 vision. BUT IF IT’S CAPTAIN CHECK DOWN I FOR ONE AM GONE!!!!!

March 11th, 2020 at 2:15 pm
JJ- c’mon man, you watch the games, they threw away games in the first 10 of this past year, the kicker blew 2 by himself. That is 9-7, what would the conversation be like if dude could hit a 30 yard FG. BTW, the defense was ranked 31st overall in the first 10 games and that is with the one of the best run defenses in league history. THAT is how bad our pass defense was. Because the D was good in the last 6, people forget how bad they were the rest of the year. BTW we didn’t stop the Seahawks in the second half with a big lead, couldn’t stop the Falcons on the last drive in the last game. (I blame conservative coaching on both of those, but 1 stop is all we need to win the game and couldn’t do it)
March 11th, 2020 at 2:15 pm

He had more than enough chances this year to prove he can lead us to victories. He lost.
Sorry I can’t have my quarterback throwing 4th quarter interceptions in clutch time. Winston must be held accountable for that despite what the kicker or defense did.

While I’d like to see the Bucs move on from Jay-Miss, because he’ll never lead this team anywhere, I tend to agree with Buccaneer Bonzai on this one. I don’t see Brady leaving the Patriots and I think Jay-Miss starts week one for the Bucs. At the end of the day this is just business. Everything said in the media should not be taken personally. Everyone clamoring for Bridgewater can’t forget that there are a few other teams out there wanting to bring in a QB to start or compete with their current guy. Indianapolis and Chicago are probably closer to competing for a Super Bowl than the Bucs.
March 11th, 2020 at 2:24 pm
I don’t give a flying crap what any of you think about me. I have missed one home game including preseason since 1993. So yeah you’re a bigger Bucs fan than me sure. It is simple I want to win and I believe that the best chance to win with this team at this time is with Jameis Winston. So considering that how am I not supposed to be pissed off? I never said I was routing against them but I did say the best thing would be for us to suck so we can get people who are going to run the franchise into the ground fired asap.
How many games have you been to John.L? Do you have over 50 games on VHS still from the old days? Do you rewatch the games each week on Gamepass? Do you drag your entire family out to training camp each year? Did you drive over to Orlando each year when training camp was there? Do you have the orange shirts in your closet, do you have the Superbowl era gear in your closet, you have the current gear in your closet? How many preseason games have you sat through start to finish? Where you there when both sets on new uniforms were unveiled? How many road games you been to? I would keep going but I’m done shutting your a$$ up.

NDOG . A lot of fans have all of that . And a lot of fans who have watched the team , have done so without their Winston blinders on . When it comes to decision making (On and off the field ) , he is below average , and 100 % of the people who have watched Winston play will agree with that . Below average decision making is not a trait you want your QB to have . Period . I don’t care if you can drop it in a garbage can blindfolded from 90 yards .

As long as you always root for the Bucs to win and never waiver you are still a die-hard which I have always thought you to be.
March 11th, 2020 at 2:32 pm
The whole comparison of the handling of Doug Williams to the Jameis situation is ridiculous. DW was a playoff QB. A proven winner. The best QB we ever had. Culverhouse was the reason we have this so called QB curse, not the Glazers. I am happy to move on from Jameis.
March 11th, 2020 at 2:33 pm
Worst case scenario, IMHO:
Sign Rivers.
Overdraft a QB at 14, because the need is there but it might be a reach.
Rivers struggles, because he’s immobile and doesn’t have the arm strength anymore, a square peg in our round offense.
Fans cry for rookie, who’s not ready.
We play rookie, he gets beat up because we should’ve taken a Tackle in the 1st.
In other words, I’d take Bridgewater over Rivers.
March 11th, 2020 at 2:36 pm
Rick Stroud… Enough said
March 11th, 2020 at 2:37 pm
My team needs to sign Trent Williams and Joe Turney and run the ball with Ryan under center. Draft Henry Riggs and put pressure on our OC to be like KC. Sign Suh because he is the only constant thing on defense and Shaq. We establish the run defense before JPP returned. I would draft Netane Muti in the second round if he is still there. Running backs in the 4th round and everything else would be defense. Hire me I will make the necessary changes to get to the playoff. I would make Atlanta and Carolina give up by the third quarter running misdirection and jumbo packages at them. Sometimes, I don’t think they want to win. I might cancel my Sunday ticket this year. It just don’t seem to be so difficult from my simple chair. I don’t care who they have get rid of to make this happen.
March 11th, 2020 at 2:37 pm
Jameis is not Mahomes. Jameis has proven HE cant win while leading the league in turnovers. Mahomes has NEVER led the league in turnovers. Mahomes is elite. Jameis is simply average. Stop, just stop. LMAO, these fan boys will try to spin anything and pretend its fact.
March 11th, 2020 at 2:37 pm
Joe in Michigan I think Rivers ends in Indy. The only one I see coming is Bridgewater because he wants to start and Griffin and Bortles aren’t starting. I don’t know if I want him over JW but he’s the only one I could see in pewter when the music stops.
March 11th, 2020 at 2:39 pm
I don’t understand why nobody is talking about Matt gay. The player who cost us two games. He was drafted to fix the kicking and fail. He was supposed to be good from long distance and fail. The HEad coach faded away from kicking. Not trusting him.
Who’s responsible for making this decision on drafting this kicker?
March 11th, 2020 at 2:39 pm

Ah yes, the rookie kicker. Lets hold him accountable for his mistakes but not the 5th year turnover prone QB who also cost us games. Keep spinningggg.
March 11th, 2020 at 2:44 pm
NDog…..Good things from Winston in all of them games. Defense really had the bigger clutch moments in both Card/Colt games and closed both out but the offense did have big late drives. Won’t take that away.
The moments of in San Fran, Texans, Atl game we’re much larger moments IMO. Especially Houston in prime time & Atl with 2nd place in South/500% record on line…….and perhaps his career on the line.
But even if we weigh all them moments on a equal scale it’s 500%. 3-3 is not great is average. That’s not leading your team to wins it’s leading to mediocricy. The great leaders at QB in this league come through more often then not in this league. Jameis did not…….and to salt the wound he done it with picks giving us no chance to comeback.
You can’t make reapeted mistakes in them moment and I’ll call you great. Won’t never happen.
And the main reason I always liked Winston was his clutch ability. He prooved me wrong this year. I do think he could put it behind him and show us he’s a winner given the chance.
The sad part is he could have just performed in them moments this year and would already have a contract. But he failed to lead us.

How many games have me lost just on the kicking the last 5 years ?
How many draft pick we have wasted on kickers ?

March 11th, 2020 at 2:49 pm
Ardnagy…….Yes you can win with turnovers………But you can’t win with some. Like a pick 6 in OT for example. Or a pick 6 when your down by one score with 2 mins left. Or a pick on your last possession in a one score game.
That was three of Winston’s picks this year. You show me one time where Mahommes threw a similar pick to those and one. You won’t cause you can’t.
Context does matter……Just like Winston throwing 4 picks against NO and it was not the reason we lost.
March 11th, 2020 at 2:50 pm
Adrnagy you are right. With a good kicker JW would be Mahomes. Heck, maybe the best of all time.

Can I read? I can read well enough to see how you are trying to spin a Winston article into a “Its the kickers fault” instead of staying on topic and holding our turnover prone QB accountable for his turnovers….
We all know Gay missed some crucial kicks this year. Only a dummy would deny this. Problem is, its not an excuse, nor our kicking problems over the years, for Winston and his turnover prone ways.
But please tell me again how its the kickers fault for Winston throwing Ints on the opening possession or how its the kickers fault that Winston has led the league in turnovers since he was drafted. That darn kicker, I tell ya.

This is boiling nicely. I love reading the accusations from both sides in this argument. I wonder if the completely divided fanbase has anything to do with the Glazers wanting to go in a different direction? And please don’t tell me that it’s overwhelmingly decided one way or the other about Winston because it’s pretty clear that it isn’t. I just think that having 50% love, 50% hate relationship between the “franchise” QB and the fans doesn’t help fill the stadium if I’m looking at it from an ownership perspective.
March 11th, 2020 at 3:14 pm
Where was the Bucs QB curse at for Chris Simms, Bruce Gradkowski, Jeff Garcia, Steve Spurrier, Eric Zier, Shaun King, Brad Johnson, Tim Rattay, Brian Griese, Mike Glennon, Josh Johnson, Byron Leftwhich, Luke McCown, Josh McCown, Josh Freeman, Jeff Carlson, Vinny Testaverde, Rob Johnson and others?
This moronic notion that Jameis is gonna go on and be great somewhere else because, “Every Bucs QB leaves and wins a Super Bowl” is stupid.
Doug Williams won a strike shortened season and then never made the playoffs again
Dilfer was given a piggyback rise to a championship by an all time defense
Young, was paired with a Hall of Fame receiver and coach.
Jameis hasn’t shown he can be consistently good for more than 2-3 games at a time, if that. The times his running game shows up (Week 17) he craps down his leg. When his defense plays well he turns it over and craps down his leg.
Enough is enough. Gotta try something new

Troy good point about the divided fanbase……..Very well could be part of the reason.
And the extremists of this fanbase have nobody but themselfs to blame. They choose to attack anybody that does not share their own opinion. Happens everyday on these boards. I am so glad I don’t deal with all that facebooks nonsense. Could only imagine.
They are the ones that have created the divide. They have tried to draw a line in the Sand and force the rest of us to choose while attempting to lable us all. I know this first hand be ause I have been called both a hater and a nuggler depending on who I argue with.
As I have long stated they have done more harm then good to the fanbase. Funny thing is both sides will be proven wrong. As with most everything that has two extremist sides…….The truth almost always lies in the middle. Not either or.

If this is indeed the beginning of the end…I can’t remember a team being more disrespectful at the end towards their former # 1 pick in the entire draft than BA and Little Brother Licht. Licht has more NFL “lives” than a cat. Unless it’s Brady (it’s not)…this is disappointing at best. Even if they pull out 8-9 wins next year…what’s the point? Teddy or Philly Rivers don’t raise the excitement level or championship chances. Rivers gagged in his prime with LT at running back, Vincent Jackson at WR , Gates at TE and a stout defense. Teddy is one lower body hit from retirement. Brady or bust…with the chance of that < 5%. Licht Lives On! He should work in Congress when this gig finally goes away.

Turnovers…yeah…the CW and while I do not disagree I ask…if he’s that talented..hard wrking…and smart…why does he still take so long to process what is in front of him and then make the proper decision.
If JW was a Fighter Pilot making decisions like that I would hope you washed him out in flight school.
So IMHO that’s what the wager amounts to…can JW stop choking…oops sorry for the un PC old school “choking”. He’s been known to be quite excitable his entire career.

March 11th, 2020 at 3:45 pm
There has never been a NFL player that I can remember with more excuses made for him than Jameis Winston.
Running game, offensive line, defense, kicker, poor eye sight, bad coaches everywhere he goes, knee scope, receivers running wrong routes, unable to grab a crotch without getting in trouble, and on and on and on, being forced to throw the ball 80+ times per game. What else is there? There must be more, right?
None of these things forced him to throw a jump pass behind a running back this year. None of these things forced him to throw a ball up for grabs from his back against the Jags a couple years ago. None of these things forced him to lob comeback routes on the sideline. None of those things forced him to have no idea where the coverage is going after the ball is snapped.
He’s dumb. He might be white board smart, but he’s dumb when the bullets fly.
March 11th, 2020 at 3:51 pm
El Buco that’s dumb as it get , yeah white so he like Bridgwater is Bridgwater white ? Is all his top coordinators white. No he is looking to upgrade every position an that’s the most important part. Sorry 5 years of the same crap is enough

March 11th, 2020 at 3:59 pm
I stand with NDog on this one. IMHO, it will be a horrible mistake to let Jameis go.
Brady is old, has no arm strength left, and is quite immobile. Plus, he will cost us even more than Jameis.
Bridgewater is quite injury prone, and Rivers will get killed here, behind our O Line.
Of all the Jameis replacements, I like Andy Dalton the best. He was a Pro Bowl QB, when he still had his receivers.
Last Year was Jameis first year in the BA System, with no running game to speak of.
March 11th, 2020 at 4:01 pm
Theodore Bridgewater ..C’mon down.
You’re the next QB asked to turn this franchise around.
March 11th, 2020 at 4:03 pm
Please I hope Brady passes and they take Bridgewater as the consolation. 5 more years of “potental…” and “what ifs…” and “if only we…”
Bring on the mediocrity!
March 11th, 2020 at 4:07 pm
Hmmm a 43 year old QB that has never been in Arians system? Last vet that did that (Carson Palmer) threw 23 int’s…🙄 Also, how long will a 43 year old QB last behind our marginal line? Then we are stuck with a rookie or Blaine Gabbert…🙄 Would be so Buc like if Jameis won the Super Bowl in our stadium this year…. oh and I can see the process again Draft Develope Suck Repeat
March 11th, 2020 at 4:09 pm
After the 5 year Jameis was experiment mediocrity looks good
March 11th, 2020 at 4:12 pm
Thank you Bro. Winston, for carrying yourself in the classy manner in which you did…Thanks for not caving in to these high-minded, visceral-spewing, low-lifes who, if the tables were turned & we could see all of their mistakes, crimes and vices, your “character issues” would pale in comparison. Thank you Bro. Winston for reminding us that the worth of a man isn’t summed up by the the amount of times an oblong brown ball leaves your hand, intended for a teammate, mistakenly falls into the hands of your opponent. Thank you Bro. Winston for keeping your cool, while grown men and women who despise your fame, charisma and influence, seek out to capitalize every opportunity possible to magnify, promote and covertly conspire not merely to destroy your credibility as an pro athlete, but in the process, reveal their true contempt for what (& who) you represent. Thank you for not giving these “slick” media, pen-assassins (nor the the simple-minded minions who follow them) the ammunition they so desperately wanted from you…that is, emotional press conference outbursts and a defensive, arrogant demeanor…that is what they expected…that is what they’ve been trying to bait you into doing all of this time…again, not just to destroy you, but everything good that you represent. Thank you for keeping your dignity…thank you for giving praise to your teammates for the success…thank you for the countless “I just need to get better” responses to the mistakes you made…These same folks ran Coach Dungy out of town for literally the same thing…class, under pressure. I’m proud of the man you are…I don’t care how many picks you throw. Go lead your next team to a championship…even if that means sitting behind another QB temporarily, you’ll rise…you’ll recover…you have what it takes. Thank you Bro. Winston. Tampa didn’t deserve you!
March 11th, 2020 at 4:21 pm

Bonzai…..Now you are guessing? What happened to your predictions?…….You know I gotta give you a hard time.
BTW you are 0-1 in the predictions. Looks like it’s gonna be 0-2 and Brady is on the move. 0-3 if he comes here.

Too funny that there are still people in denial about Jaboo . Not only do they actually think he’s good . They actually still think that he is going to get signed for more than one year.
March 11th, 2020 at 4:30 pm
Joe, how is this proclamation of Jameis’ departure different from all of the others?
March 11th, 2020 at 4:36 pm
@TJ AKA BOBO WILSON….LOL….
he’s leaving the team not the earth….lol…that sounds like a eulogy….LMAO….

I suppose Arians really liked Jameis until he coached him and discovered with a mental mess the guy is…
A $bazillion dollar arm controlled with a $9.99 brain.
March 11th, 2020 at 4:39 pm
There are many better QB options for the Bucs than Winston.
However, signing Brady would be a HUGE coup for the Bucs.
Some very much needed excitement would finally be in Bucs football. They would be the talk of the sports world, Ray Jay would fill back up, and longtime Bucs fans would be brought back in.
Not to mention that the current Bucs would be very excited to play with Brady. They would respect and listen to him, knowing that he knows what it takes to get to the Superbowl.
March 11th, 2020 at 4:40 pm
I guess TJ doesn’t care about winning, just polishing Jameis Christ’s knob…
March 11th, 2020 at 4:46 pm
@ cobraboy
We all know why Winston can’t call audibles… Or properly read a defense. It has nothing to do with his arm strength or anything thing else physical…
March 11th, 2020 at 4:48 pm
I concur 100% with tckrdr: Winston is either The Man or not, price is meaningless.
March 11th, 2020 at 4:48 pm
Right now on NFL Network is Jameis carving up the 3-0 Rams. Please take a look at this game and just imagine what we would be letting walk out the door.
March 11th, 2020 at 4:49 pm
I’m still waiting to see his official wunderlic score . Can’t be higher than 30 .
“Oh look they mating , no , wait , the cockroach over here havin a baby . “
March 11th, 2020 at 4:49 pm
I haven’t seen this on no other media outlets but this one .
March 11th, 2020 at 4:54 pm
If you think about it,BA has put a lot of comments out there to point out Jameis deficiencies. I think it is even more of a cut down than McCoy went through. BA
said he was going to do an evaluation and with all the comments BA is making,it is hard to believe that Jameis passed the evaluation. Comments about not taking the checkdown and keeping the offense moving, ineffective play in the fourth quarter. TO’s at the worst possible time are just a few I can remember.
March 11th, 2020 at 4:54 pm
TJ is right. Tampa didnt deserve all the turnovers that came with Winston. Thank you for leaving and taking the turnover circus to another franchise.

As a huge Brady fan I watch the Patriots whenever the Bucs are not on at the same time, but Brady had a hard time throwing accurately more than 20 yards downfield. More like floating ducks and yes I realize he did not have a decent WRs.

If you viewed the recently posted videos of JW rehabbing, he appears to be 15-20 lbs lighter. It seems like JW intentionally bulked up to 250lbs playing weight at beginning of 2019 season knowing he would be taking a beating in BA’s offense. May a Carson Palmer gave him a heads up.
Regardless of all the media reports, for 2020, JW knows Bucs are moving to any other QB (your HC not checking in on you after surgeries…hmm). And he is slimming down for quickness and different offense. Not that JW or anyone knows where. For me, just another “tell sign” that JW knows he will don a different jersey next year. All this speculation is interesting. Seems like JW already knows.

Then Cobraboy you will see Evans not work his way back to the ball on the first pick, Jameis arm get hit on the second pick, a great play/ bad throw on the 3rd pick, a 4th down desperate throw on the 4th pick and a just hail Mary type throw/ crappy effort on the 5th pick. What’s your point?
March 11th, 2020 at 5:19 pm
@Bucsfire What I said yesterday has nothing to do with having all of the answers . You better go check yo sheet . I said that the only people that still support Winston are FSU fans , or of an urban persuasion . You obviously didn’t understand what I was implying, and I’m not going to go into further detail about it . If you can’t read between the lines of that statement , I’m not sure what to tell you , other than …….I don’t have any of the answers , only people inside one buc can have the answer , and even still , they might not have the right answer . I don’t think Brady come here. If he does, Our Bucs are bigger fools than I thought they were. Arians is keeping his options all open. I do think Bridgewater is a possibility though. Bucs might get Jameis on the cheap for a 2 yr deal. And we know how out Bucs like’em…Dirt Cheap.
March 11th, 2020 at 5:58 pm
Lmao ^^^^^^ like I said earlier , delusional fans still think that he is gonna get a two year deal . No team is going to give him more than a year .
March 11th, 2020 at 6:14 pm
Brady couldn’t take a team with a better roster and playing in a weaker conference to the SB last year. Hell the only reason he won the year before was because his defense held the Rams to 3 points. So what is the plan after Brady? I’m sure Arians isn’t going to stick around forever and I’m sure Brady isn’t going to either. Fans say draft a QB.
Yeh but they all don’t work out now do they.
March 11th, 2020 at 6:19 pm
As I posted many days ago, it was obvious the Bucs were letting Jameis walk…
The Lasik eye surgery thing was the biggest sign. Total PR move by Winston’s agent to hope some team would sign him to a decent contract and be willing to ‘gamble’ thinking somehow the Lasik eye surgery might improve his INT problems somehow.
The Bucs clearly told Jameis’ agent that they weren’t bringing him back but agreed it would be in both their best interests for the Bucs to not publicly announce they weren’t bringing Jameis back, which could potentially hurt Jameis’ free agency value. Instead they’ll approach things as if they ‘might’ bring him back if the price was right and that might encourage another team to give him a nice contract.
The Bucs played this strategically well… by not announcing they had no intention of bringing Winston back, they didn’t up the urgency for other teams shopping for QBs in free agency, possibly giving the Bucs a better chance to swoop in and get a deal done quick with their main target (whether that’s Brady or someone else).
The New Uniforms was also a dead giveaway that they were moving on from Jameis. New marketing, a new look, and time for a major marketing/branding change. No better time to do that than changing your “face of the franchise” and going in a new direction which they plan to do.
Jameis has lot of talent but he’s also incredibly inconsistent after 5 years in the NFL. You need at least 3 straight playoff victories to win a Super Bowl, and the odds are just too great that Good Jameis/Bad Jameis would ever keep that from happening and Arians knows it.
Jameis is now in DEEP TROUBLE. Odds are very high he will not be signed to another starting job. He’ll probably end up as a backup somewhere and have to take a much lower salary.
Jameis Winston is well on his way to being out of the NFL. Many have known it for a long time. It’s now actually happening. You just can’t lead the league in turnovers every single year and expect to build a consistent winning team when you’re gifting your opponents better Starting Field Position, the #1 metric in predicting the winner of a football game.
March 11th, 2020 at 6:21 pm
Bring in the Red Rifle….He’s like a AK-47, Cheap, Durable, and Effective enough
March 11th, 2020 at 6:25 pm
Is there a chance that Jameis still comes back and is the QB for 2020 for the Bucs? OF COURSE.
Nothing is ‘done’ until it’s done.
But you’d be a fool not to realize it’s looking less and less likely that Winston is coming back. Too many signs point to him being let to walk.
This isn’t some sort of Bucs negotiating tactic to save a few million per year on a QB (Winston) they believe is their future. They either believe the guy is or they believe the guy isn’t.
The Bucs have plenty of cap space and even ‘overpaying’ Winston if they had to is well worth it if they believe he’s their QB. The reality is, they most likely DON’T see him as their QB. They’re not about to let him test free agency in the hopes that no one else will sign him just to save $5M-$7M/year. No team is that dumb.
If they let him test free agency it’s because THEY DON’T WANT HIM.

Sending Jameis on his way and this franchise will again be set back for at least another decade. I will blame it all on the fans and all of you better put your money where your mouth is and actually show up to the games. And when they are still losing let’s see you still supporting the Bucs at there games. I will always support the Bucs and whoever is at QB but will not be happy with this huge mistake. I hope I’m wrong but I have a bad feeling about all of this. Go Bucs!
March 11th, 2020 at 8:27 pm
I think at this point we can narrow it down to 2 options behind center next year.
Brady or Winston.
The Bucs have painted themselfs into the corner of them 2 options. If they are moving on from Winston no way they let out this much chatter about Brady unless he is a very likely option. Now if we move on from Winston and have to settle for less(perception) then Brady it will be seen as a loss by media and fans.
If we stay with Winston I don’t think many will be too crazy upset we didn’t land Brady. Many will probably say he was never an option. This whole Brady noise will be seen as and very well could be a negotiating ploy.
But at this point if we got a new QB in 2020 and it’s not Brady it will look very very bad by the Bucs. Those are our 2 choices.
March 11th, 2020 at 8:28 pm
Ndog,
I hope we sign Brady. The Goat!
We’d have 2-3 years of contention if he wants to ball out through 45. If take it. Even Joe Montana took the Chiefs to the AFC title. We haven’t sniffed playoffs in 10 years.
In all seriousness NDog, I’d love to watch a game with you just to see in person your process before posting. Consider me fascinated because it’s damn near opposite of my belief, but I can’t argue you are a true fan.
I hope you don’t feel attacked. We are Buc fans, true diehards trying to frost each other’s balls every single day! We should appreciate one another and not name call or personally insult because someone has a differing opinion than thou.
Mad love,

March 11th, 2020 at 8:54 pm
Ndog the point is you can bring up some great games of a QBs who has started 5 seasons. But you can never in the history of the nfl bring up as many bad games as jameis has had on game tape of any qb in the history of the league who has actually got to start for 5 seasons. I wanted him to exceed as bad as anybody for the sake of the bucs winning. I am no casual fan. I am 40 my first bucs game was a s a 49rs fan at the old sombrero when warren Sapp took out jerry rice and Steven young in the same game concussion and knee. Then the next year I started rooting for the bucs and have been a die hard season ticket holder since. I wear bucs gear everyday. But as a die hard and go no longer keep hoping this is the season he puts it all together. Let’s say we sign him to 4 years and he does what he has been doing turnover machine we waste 4 more years of being a 6-10 team to a at best 8-8 then in 4 years we are in the same boat. How many more seasons do you actually think we should give him. I would be willing to give him one more if we had a good back up. But this offseason there is a lot of good QBs available that rarely happens so it is now or never for me

Imagine what we’re debating here.
One player who we hope can at least partially replicate his glorious past against another player we hope can eradicate his past.
Bet on the one that has failed because (List the 101 excuses here)

Tom Brady will be added the long list of runaway brides that left us standing at the Altar waiting.
March 11th, 2020 at 9:12 pm
For everyone that post anti jameis post please revisit these next year.If you don’t see every flaw that we had I 2020,don’t make that excuse in 2021.If we let jameis walk I might cancel my season tickets.The bucs have never resigned a QB,I guess we’re used to it.That stops now.
March 11th, 2020 at 9:20 pm
Chris Godwin #12 don’t count on extra christmas money from Brady buying your number. I hope you do get a new contract with the Bucs.
March 11th, 2020 at 9:29 pm
In typical Bucs fashion, they will screw this up.I cant wait to see where Jameis lands.Hopefully its a team like Tennesee.If he goes somewhere that has a defense like the Bucs finished the season with, and a running game hes a playoff qb every season for the next decade. Teams and fans are so impatient.There are 32 other teams trying to.win every year, you draft a rookie qb, feed him a crap oline for the first 3 seasons, a historically bad defense for 4 1/4 out of five seasons, zero run game and then throw.in the towel on your first round qb before he ever has a chance to start a season with an even average defense.Bridgewater has a rep.for.throwing picks when.throwing the ball down field and will be learning an entirly new offense, Rivers throws picks and is old as dirt . Brady aint coming here, he would cost more than Jameis and will get destroyed here.None of this makes sense but hey…..its THE BUCS!!!!!

Can’t wait to see us go for Brady!
We are a great candidate for his services.
March 11th, 2020 at 9:44 pm
BucEmUp that is a darn fact that teams and fans(especially fans) are impatient.
Now in the case of Winston I have to disagree. I think many Tampa Bay fans have been pretty darn patient waiting for Winston to reach his potential. I can darn sure guarantee you that most cities would not have been this patient. Think of places like Chicaho, New York, Philly……..They would of run Winston off years ago if he had as much losing as he did here with all the boneheaded plays he makes.
I think it was Joe whose pointed out before that there may have never been another QB last this long with one team and never throw in a playoff game. I know I can’t think of one. Tampa Bay has been very patient indeed.
Now I do still think we should retain Winston. But if we do get rid of him it won’t be about the team or fans losing patience. It’ll be about Bruce saying Winston aren’t it. I’ll trust that this coach knows the QB position very well and will make the proper decision.
March 11th, 2020 at 9:45 pm
Ultimate irony would be with the Super Bowl being played in Tampa if the coach we fired Jon Gruden and his Raiders come here and win the Super Bowl with a QB (Winston) we did not resign.
March 11th, 2020 at 9:51 pm
Signing Brady or Rivers would be the biggest waste this club has made since drafting Bo Jackson.

Ndog Says:
Maybe you’re right.
Maybe my college playing career, 3 years of pro ball in the 70’s and 3 years of coaching football in Div. I college means I don’t know squat about football. No doubt you have more experience in real football.
Ndog, you consistently let your alligator mouth get in the way of your hummingbird a$$.
I WILL admit you have vastly superior first-hand knowledge about one thing that I admit I know nothing about: the smell of Winston’s skid marks.

The quarterback drama is almost over. Jameis is not a good NFL quarterback and never has been. He’s had “hall of fame worthy” games and plays, but when added to his relentless buffoonery, he is just average imo. I like Jameis and I’m willing to bet on him for at least one more year because his “good” is as good as it gets. If we part ways with him, I’m cool with that too since my patience for hoping that he becomes a franchise guy is almost tapped.
Regardless of who the starting quarterback is in 2020, if we don’t sign a backup that can actually play and draft one relatively early, I’m going to lose most of the faith that I have put in Arians. Going into a season half a$$ed at quarterback is seriously getting old.
March 11th, 2020 at 10:04 pm
WInston goes to NE and wins a superbowl next year.
Bucs get jilted by all the good free agents, go 2-14, Arains quits, Licht
gets an extension and Glazers really don’t care……bucs life baby
March 11th, 2020 at 10:16 pm
Watch! The Hoodie is surreptitiously plotting his takeover!
Lol Howard bets money the Hoodie signs and then fixes Winston.
The focus and stability in the NE environment is 2nd to none.
They’ll figure Winston out and turn him into a monster.
March 11th, 2020 at 10:21 pm
Haha Howard the scariest part of that is Licht gets extended.
Honestly I’m pretty fatigued over arguing about this for months. I’d be bummed if we let Jameis move on but I think there are QBs that could win here. The concern for me is I don’t know if Brady, Rivers, or Bridgewater could hold up a whole season of beating. We really need to build the run game up regardless of who is coming in here to play QB.
Just look at the playoff teams last year. The formula is clear, play good defense and dominate in the run game. This 67% pass BS ain’t gonna fly. Too freaking risky no matter who the signal caller is.

The pic makes it seem like JW is about to cry hearing this news!.. LoL
March 11th, 2020 at 11:05 pm
I’ve been saying for a while – they should stick with Jameis one more year and if that doesn’t work go all out to get Trevor Lawrence.
But….
Cutting him loose if they could get Brady is a no brainer. They still have to draft a quarterback though.
Philip Rivers makes no sense to me. He is the same player as Jamies but much older.
Teddy Bridgewater, I don’t know. Last I checked he can’t throw the deep ball, he makes no sense with Bruce Arians

276 comments here have almost proven my point about Winston. I’ve been watching foot for over 50 years and I’ve never seen a player that divides a fan base like Jameis. Don’t overlook the fact that the stands are empty with Jameis as the face of the franchise. It matters to the Glazers.
March 12th, 2020 at 12:00 am
All the news is about whether or not the Bucs keep Winston. I’m on the side that wants the Bucs to give Winston $25M for 4 years. The Bucs were in almost every game last year. Thanks to Winston and 5000 yards, 33 touchdowns. Pregame, we all think the Bucs can win…no matter who the opponent. Defense, across the board, is playing better. K could be good. Get a little help on the offensive line and running back (first two rounds), and we’ve got a winner…for years.
March 12th, 2020 at 12:05 am
Oh Rick Stroud wrote this?
Well then I’m sure it’s true LOLOLOLOLOLOL.
Wouldn’t surprise, but Stroud is notoriously wrong.
@Troy- they’ve been that way long before Jameis and will be long after. This team has sucked for most of it’s history, it didn’t just start in 2015.
March 12th, 2020 at 5:16 am
This is great news, if true.

Brady demands the best out of everyone. This is the perfect fit! A young QB will learn how to prepare and win behind Brady and we will be transformed into a winning program. Tom Brady will finally feel appreciated and hang around one buc place long past his retirement because winning a Super Bowl here will be the proudest moment of his career. Brady will insist on an offensive linemen and there are some QBs like Nate Stanley who have high football IQs whom we can quickly groom to take over the ship. Tom Brady will lift the curse and all of us in here now will be trash talking all the bandwagon fans we will have.
If Brady comes here we make it to the playoffs and lose in a heart breaker and Brady comes back one more year and retires on top. It suits Tom Brady’s narrative.

Matt
Agree completely. This story is bigger than the normal NFL story. IF Brady comes to Tampa it has the possibility of being historic for sure.
IF Brady won an SB here in Tampa as a Buc…the Joe Namath number one finger waving video..Montana…Manning…they all fade quickly as there would be no greater story than Brady showing up Belicheat.
If he comes and we lose what have we lost…a chance at seven pick sixes and 30 interceptions and 30 TDs and all that excitement. We lose nothing in the record book…we’re a 7-9 team. JW is 28-42…a 40% average.
Statistically JW would be predicted to win 40% of this year’s games…or…wait for it…a 7-9 record.

NO BRIDEWATER. Carr or Dalton. Maybe even Foles.
