Michael Clayton No. 212
January 28th, 2010Joe came across something last night that was so stunning, that he had to put down his Caybrew. In fact, the tidbit was so disturbing it should alarm any sober Bucs fan.
Posting on the TBO Bucs Twitter feed, Anwar Richardson of the Tampa Tribune noted that ProFootballReference.com ranked all NFL players by position. The Bucs $7.5 million dollar man (in 2009) who may just be the Bucs No. 1 receiver next year, Michael Clayton, was ranked as the No. 212 receiver in the NFL.
Can you imagine?
Bucs did not have a WR ranked in the top 100 in receptions. Pro Football Reference ranked Bryant 104, Stroughter 134 and Clayton 212.
Think about it: a seventh-round rookie was twice as good as Clayton.
Being ranked as the No. 212 wide receiver basically means some scrub off the street can perform just as well. No. 212!!!
Assuming that Antonio Bryant is not with the Bucs next year, is there a team in the NFL with a sorrier group of receivers than the Bucs?
This news so unnerved Joe, he is in need of Rachel Watson to comfort him.

Pathetic….We have Solid guys likes Rudd and Penn who deserve proper pay, and instead this bum gets it. Maybe we can get a pick from the bears for him.

danny cap:
If Mark Dominik would be able to get any draft pick for Clayton (and his salary), Joe will be moved to believe Dominik is a superior poker player the way he was able to coerce a draft pick for Luke McCown and a second round pick for Gaines Adams.

Haha, I agree. At this point id take a 12th round pick in the 1991 draft

But Clayton is a GREAT blocker!

im just saying…. :p

I agree with Aldo, we need a TE that can block and the shithead is already paid for, put Winslow in the slot.

No Joe, a scrub off the street could NOT do what Clayton did last year.
A scrub off the street could do BETTER than Clayton. Remember who led the league in drops for most of the year?
So not only could MC80 not produce yardage, he could produce drops, and plenty of them.
The saddest part is this is absolutely nothing new. That loser has been playing this way for 5 years now. But Dumbinik and ‘The Dream’ hand him 10 million guaranteed?
One of the worst signings in franchise history. Coincidentally by one of the worst GM’s in franchise history and coached by one of the worst coaches in franchise history…if, like Clayton, you are to judge them based on what they’ve actually done and not what you ‘hope’ they would do.

“I dare somebody to write an article about why Clayton is on the team again”.

Tom,
The Dream is the worst coach in NFL history, not just franchise history. Your giving the man too much credit.
