Daniel Jeremiah, Chaos & The Ultimate “Date Swap”

March 9th, 2020

“Jason, don’t wear that jacket if we meet with Teddy.”

NFL Network draft guru and Ravens, Browns and Eagles scout Daniel Jeremiah, a former college QB, has a lot of connections across the NFL and he weighed in late last week on the Bucs’ quarterback situation.

No, Jeremiah didn’t talk about Tampa Bay drafting a QB in Round 1 of the NFL Draft next month — because it appears he doesn’t think the Bucs will have a great need.

Jeremiah said he believes when all the smoke clears, Jameis Winston will return to the Bucs, so he told WFAN radio in New York.

However, Jeremiah acknowledged the Bucs and Raiders are sniffing new quarterbacks and he said teams and coaches often seek to replace a head coach and a quarterback with the opposite version of who they just fired.

Therefore, per Jeremiah, Derek Carr and Jameis are the ultimate “date swap” and he could see the Bucs with conservative but big-armed Carr, while “the most aggressive quarterback in the NFL” would join Chucky in Las Vegas.

Jeremiah said he personally would love to see Jameis in Vegas, and he acknowledged Tom Brady’s decision will be “the ultimate domino” in the QB market and him moving on will result in “chaos.”

Asked about Teddy Bridgewater, Jeremiah said, “I’ve heard Tampa mentioned there.” Jeremiah said he thinks Bridgewater would be a great fit with the Chargers but he believes the Chargers are more likely to prefer rolling with Tyrod Taylor and drafting a QB.

As for Bridgewater succeeding in Tampa or anywhere else, Jeremiah said a strong running game would be a prerequisite.

A strong running game is a prerequisite for any successful quarterback. Alot of people on this site think you just “plop” any quarterback in the current system and BOOM all our problems are fixed.

Add Tom Brady to this offensive line, tragedy of a running game (including the Peyton Barber experiment) and our 4 years of terrible kicking and explain how you get drastically different results. Jameis turned the ball over alot in the first year of this system, so did Peyton, Ben, Carson (not sure about Lucks int numbers).

Hmmm I wonder where I’ve heard that before?

If this franchise signs Bridgewater, Rivers or Brady we can just go ahead a pencil in no Superbowls for the next 5-10 years. Cause Bridgewater needs a great running game ( any success came with Adrian Peterson and Alvin Karma) and Rivers/Brady both need a great Oline to do anything.

  3. 541BucsFan Says:

I wonder how much the Bridgewater news is coming from the Bridgewater camp? Claiming Tampa Bay is interested (knowing the team has $80MM in cap space) certainly would boost the starting price for other interested teams … even if Tampa is only interested at a smaller number.

jameis needs to give the washed up old senile BA the finger and go anywhere but tampa. this organization is 100% void of leadership from owners to the parking lot attendants. jameis deserves a chance to play for a professional football organization to see what he really can do. bucs are a laughingstock and will always be a laughingstock. ownership keeps jumping for desperate gambles like BA and is lovie 2.0 staff there truly is no hope. hiring a washed up has been with NO TRACK RECORD of Building a winner nor having any post season success and expecting them to be successful is like firing a teacher for under-performing then rehiring them for district superintendent. All based on a hiring recommendation from arguably the worst GM in franchise history only the glazers make incompetent moves like that.

jameis has done his time in the sewer of the nfl… free jameis! give these idiots what they want!

time to forget about the QB position and fortify EVERYWHERE else! That will build for the future and sustain winning!….ANY QB can replace WinSTUNNED!

  9. Tye Says:

The only thing that truly matters to Bucs fans is who will the Bucs trot out as starting QB come September…
Someone that offers us hope and the possibility of a winning season or the same old rotting fish that will only offer the usually ‘maybe next year’ mantra we have all become so familiar with over the past decade and a half!

  10. Defense Rules Says:

IF Bucs get Carr in the process, I’d like to see Jameis playing in Vegas too. Three more days and all this silliness at least starts to end.

Daniel Jeremiah’s Mock Draft 2.0 has Justin Herbert falling to #23 in the first round, taken by the Patriots. I’m still hoping the Bucs move up in the draft to take him, even if they have to throw in OJ Howard plus whatever it takes.

  16. TexBuc Says:

Winston has the under appreciated ability to operate within a dirty pocket. Many do not understand most QB’s would crumble under the relentlessly leaky OL. Coaching cannot help a “scared” QB and Winston’s ability to get the ball out under pressure is one of his BEST traits.

So I hear all the time (especially on here) about how “tempting” living in Tampa can be for some people due to all the bars/strip clubs/etc. Jameis pretty much admitted to being an alcoholic as an excuse to deflect from the Uber incident.

If he were to be moved to Vegas…who thinks he lasts more than 6 months before he’s back in the news for something bad? It’s literally called Sin City for a reason.

  18. Rob Says:

Maxi pad and lil pup. No one cares about your insane love affair for America’s turnover machine. Can’t wait for the ATM to sign anywhere else so you can switch allegiances to his new team, that is if you were ever really a true Buc fan anyway. Go spew your J love somewhere else and get us a real quarterback who cares about not turning the ball over. Check yo sheet. Go Bucs!

I do. Jameis has given no indication for the last 3+ years to believe that he would return to the immaturity. By all accounts, he is living a very decent (and charitable) life these days. He just throws a lot of interceptions.

  20. TexBuc Says:

Winston just turned 26 two months ago meaning his last incident was at age 22. Having spent over 20 yrs in the Army I can tell you the US Military has alcohol related incidents all the time in that age group. Guess what happens as they get older they turn into the future leaders of our military.

Fair enough Demon. But I gotta say if Winston’s alcohol problem really was bad enough it was the reason behind the groping incident, it’s not likely he will live the rest of his life with no relapse. I’ve spent 17 years working with addicts of all types. In all that time, I’ve met less than 20 who have never backslid into whatever their habit was at some point. The younger they are, the more frequently it has happened. You just cannot ever fully trust an addict no matter how much you want to.

Of course we don’t really know the details behind how bad it may have been with JW, but if it was remotely bad enough that he had to stop drinking altogether to avoid further problems, my money is on him messing up at some point down the road.

That said, that is all in the hypothetical that he were to be put in an environment such as Las Vegas. I really don’t see him ending up there no matter how it shakes out here.

  22. Stanglassman Says:

The Charger are looking for a RPO Qb and he thinks Bridgewater is a perfect fit?

Teddy has been good but he hasn’t been ask to do too much and has had the luxury of playing with great teams with excellent OL with great run games and a dominate defenses.

  23. tmaxcon Says:

    Rob

The bucs are and were a laughingstock and proud owners of the worst winning percentage in NFL history long before jameis and will be a complete joke long after he is successful elsewhere. Your jealously and hatred is pretty funny though. Jameis haters have a single focused combined iq of a deliverance extra….

I certainly do not have the 17 years of experience that you have, and you are definitely entitled to your opinion, of course. – The one way that hits me wrong as that it sort of presumes that someone is just doomed to failure, if they have gone down that path.

That is a scary notion to me, because I have walked a fine line in my life at times with drinking too much. — I would really hate to think that when one decides to make that change, that they are just doomed to repeat past behavior and not able to truly change.

Don’t worry Demon, it’s not impossible, it’s just honestly rare. I’ve lost many nights of sleep because I have to go to a hospital/police station/etc. to talk down someone who was sober for years. Addiction counseling is not even my profession. I got my LCSW in addition to my undergrad and do it for free on nights/weekends. I grew up in a home with 2 addict parents so it just seemed worth my time.

Again, I don’t know the truth behind how bad JW’s problem was, hence why my situation is hypothetical. I’m simply going off his words that he was drinking a lot when that happened, that is considered deflection, a common method of an addict to try and minimize when they mess up.

Owning up to your mistakes instead of deflecting is a healthier response that will help give you a better chance of overcoming your problem.

Read a nice article not too long ago, slotting QB into 2 cooking related categories….Do we need a baker or a chef QB to succeed in BA’s risk it – no biscuit vertical passing attack???

A baker QB is a player that just follows the recipe directions of the system…(1-2-3 – follow your check downs & dump it off..or throw it away if it’s not there.)…Bridgewater / Carr / Brady / Fromm / Herbert / Stanley

A chef QB is a guy that can get a little creative w/ the recipe… (follows progressions, but if not there – has tendency to be more of a gunslinger-risk taker to make plays down field)… JW3 / Dalton / Rivers / Jordan Love / Eason / McDonald

JW “the most aggressive QB in the NFL”…

Facts!…Now if we can just find the happy medium that allows him to stay aggressive but limits the turnovers that’d be great…

Time to get of the golf cart BA; America needs you….

  32. Hethrew 30 Says:

Send Winston to Vegas and he will be in trouble in about 2 hours, and that includes the Lyft ride from the airport.

  33. Lunchbox Says:

Actually I think Vegas would be the perfect place for Jameis. Jameis as your QB is like gambling at the casino. Think about it. You go to the casino to gamble, hoping you win big. You usually win some, but you also usually lose more than you win. Just like Jameis.

  34. stpetebucsfan Says:

I like the Carr JW trade as well. I think it’s a win win for all involved. JW and the Bucs get a fresh start!

The Bucs are very close to building a team that won’t require a superstar QB…just a competent NFL QB…Carr fits that bill.

Meanwhile as has been pointed out, JW’s gambling tendencies would play much better in Vegas. And an added benefit for JW is that he might actually score and endorsement or two in “Sin City”.

  35. Eric Says:

I watched a lot of raiders games and Carr just does not impress me. He has thr capacity to screw up and the most inopportune moments. I know so does JW but were looking for improvement here.

For Rivers fans to might want to check out a utube video of
Phillip Rivers biggest chokes. He’s had more than his fair share of blowing big games.

Just saying. Buyer beware. Grass may not be greener.

This is why I’ve been apprehensive about the new unis. Nike is a globalist (read satanic) company who’s agenda includes degrading humanity (especially western culture). One of the vehicles they use to accomplish this is the “arts” (to include graphic design). Robert Mapplethorpe, anyone? It’s not an accident that all the uniforms they design suck.

I wish the Bucs used another company, but they were probably under league obligation to use the swoosh.

It’s like this: If I could have created it myself, then it’s probably not art.
