Bucs After Rivers?
March 8th, 2020It’s hard to keep a secret in the NFL for too long. Especially at the combine.
Why is Joe bringing this up? While Bucs officials may try to keep the lid on a story and use misdirection to hide their motives and schemes (Door No. 2, for example), football coaches and others in team operations have friends all over the league.
At the combine, over a couple of adult beverages, something might slip out, or while killing time with a colleague waiting in line at Steak and Shake after midnight.
Why is Joe bringing this all up? Jeremy Fowler of BSPN is a very plugged-in NFL reporter. And he had an NFL assistant coach tell him Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians will make a run at a veteran quarterback who already parted ways with his long-time team and the guy’s name is not “Tom.”
That’s why, as one NFL offensive coordinator put it, the Bucs will re-sign Winston “only if they can’t get [Philip] Rivers. I think [Arians] likes Rivers, and the chance to recreate the Carson Palmer magic. They have weapons.”
And some of those weapons, despite showing Winston support publicly, might welcome a quarterback with Rivers’ pedigree. Winston’s leadership has come into question in the past.
It’s hard to believe Bucs receivers, who caught a lot of passes for a lot of yards from Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, would be angry at him.
Joe isn’t anti-Rivers. The guy is proven. Still, Joe just thinks Rivers is nothing more than an aging, immobile Jameis.
Rivers is durable, that’s for sure. If he comes to Tampa Bay, he better be.
March 8th, 2020 at 12:19 am
Yes Rivers is proven, proven that he has a weak arm, isn’t mobile and is the biggest crybaby in the entire league.
March 8th, 2020 at 12:32 am
rivers is ok
March 8th, 2020 at 12:35 am
Arians is the QB whisperer. Rivers has shown elite production as recently as 2018, far better than anything Winston has done. Arians and our weapons can get the best from Rivers. Arians knows he cannot coach Winston any further… Rivers has championship potential.

March 8th, 2020 at 12:50 am
If this team signs Phillip River’s I’m gonna cancel my season tickets.
March 8th, 2020 at 1:07 am
Smoke and mirrors
March 8th, 2020 at 1:15 am
This would be a typical Buc move. That’s why you can’t really take this franchise seriously but if you do you need to get a life.
March 8th, 2020 at 1:23 am
Still … less INT’s! 5 years of Win”less”ton is enough. If you, (looking at YOU Joe), after 5 years still can’t see what the late Big Dog always said … “a cheetah does not change it’s spots, it will always be a cheetah!!), then you choose to be blind! Draft J. Love if available and let him sit two years … worse case, draft Fromm in the third AFTER an O lineman and a D lineman, sit for two and develop. Then get your RB, plenty in this draft … just my 1 cent worth …
March 8th, 2020 at 1:28 am
I’ve always said I respect Rivers because when I watch him he will stand in the pocket and take a huge shot but deliver a ball right on the money.
Can he take the beating in this offense at his age? That remains to be seen, if that happens.
Rivers WOULD be good in this offense and so will Jameis again if awarded that opportunity.
March 8th, 2020 at 1:40 am
Rivers is ok. Will it happen most likely not. Imo. Also ,Rivers threw 20int last year now imagine his first year in Bruce’s offense …. 40int.
March 8th, 2020 at 1:54 am
Jameis should ask for a trade.
March 8th, 2020 at 3:05 am
Rivers has been a hell of a good QB for a long time. Fiery, good leader.
Although I would prefer Jameis i can understand Bruce taking a long look.
March 8th, 2020 at 3:20 am
Rivers ranks #6 on the all-time list of most Pick-6s, with 24 in 16 years. I’m thinking in BA’s Bombs Away offense he could hit the magic 30 mark in his first year under Bruce. Wow, would that be ‘entertaining’.
March 8th, 2020 at 3:24 am
Nope 🤡🤡🤡🤡
March 8th, 2020 at 3:41 am
Jameis is not really respected as a leader.. are u kidding me? Who wants to eat a W? Interceptions all day? Eating L’s

If this team signs Phillip River’s I’m gonna cancel my season tickets.
So you’re saying you are a individual player fan and not a Bucs fan, I don’t care who is under center, I will always root for the bucs . That doesn’t mean I won’t root for a particular play to be drafted/signed, but regardless of who end end up having I will root for dem Bucs.
March 8th, 2020 at 4:39 am
At last a MATURE qb who will lead the team !.
March 8th, 2020 at 4:42 am
“Jameis should ask for a trade”
Jaymiss doesn’t need to, he will be a free agent this week and hopefully on the street, why trade ?.
Footnote :- Who would trade for him anyway, Mariotta will get a job ahead of ATM
March 8th, 2020 at 6:22 am
TBH I am not a Winston fan, but I do want to see him for 8 more games. Let’s see if the SqWuint-Ston LASIK Magic makes him the elite Ashmericas QB???
I mean literally your 5 years into a marriage your wife is great in bed but cheats on you and maxes out all your credit cards, so
Your telling me the solution is to get a new wife who also sucks but is NOT AS HOT???
Wait a F N minute Bro! This is BS
KEEP WINSTON for 8 games to see who is in 2020 once and for all, DRAFT QB for the future like Herbert, Love, Eason, Hurts.
Do NOT SIGN PHILLIP RIVERS that is less than Jameis Winston WTF
March 8th, 2020 at 6:57 am
Jameis Wins-none 4-23 vs. playoff teams (.138) winning pct. Good-bye NEXT!
March 8th, 2020 at 6:58 am
Based on turnover margin, this is a no brainer. Why did Joe pick the Sam argument used against Andy Dalton, well if you stack up he and Jameis’ last five years and compare..”
Rivers still threw 10 less to lesser targets, and Melvin Gordon held out.
March 8th, 2020 at 7:00 am
Rivers still threw ten less picks in’19.
Upgrade-check.
Cheaper than 30- check
Team improves W-L record with less turnovers committed-check.
March 8th, 2020 at 7:01 am
Keith Tandy with the pick against Rivers to ice the 2016 win. Great play by Tandy who was on fire durring that string of wins. Tandy returns to Bucs as assistant coach. Pass on Rivers.
March 8th, 2020 at 7:10 am
The fact that it is even arguable that a benched Andy Dalton or an a Old man Rivers are better than a fifth year, former number one overall pick, crab leg thieving, College cafeteria obscenity screaming, Uber hassling, charter 30-30 member, 2016 pro bowl 5th-alternate, 28-42record- “check your sheet, I’m ballin”, Jameis Winston.
I’m not a hater, just non biased. I see team failure being achieved by a lack of leadership and awareness for taking care of the ball from our QB. Jameis does try harder than most, has a ton of heart and is not a quitter. I admire those traits, but it’s clear he’s not the answer.
I continue to be amazed at the “Buc fans” with FSU shaded glasses on. I firmly believe some prefer to lose with Jameis, then win with someone else. Sad stuff. Go Bucs.
“The ball is the program” -PJ Fleck.
March 8th, 2020 at 7:13 am
Could the apologists use the same lens to judge QBs/Players when judging Winston against teammates or peers at his position?
It’s so silly to see the excuses continue to pour in after five years. Cut bait, I promise you our best team record over the next five seasons will be better that 9-7: once.
March 8th, 2020 at 7:17 am
More people would buy/keep tickets, and watch games on tv if we signed Rivers. Winston had kore than a fair shake. Bye, bye ms. American pie!
March 8th, 2020 at 7:18 am
Rivers can win just as good as Winston
Rivers can lose just as good as Winston
….even at a lower price
March 8th, 2020 at 7:25 am
If Winston was not a 1st overall pick, would we even be having these conversations?
Let me put this a different way. If we were watching Mike Glennon throw 30 interceptions, for instance, would we be discussing his future with the Bucs?
Yeah, didn’t think so.
March 8th, 2020 at 7:40 am
One advantage for me living in NC and being a Bucs fan is that I have many NC State fans as friends…..they would all immediately become Buc fans so….I wouldn’t be the lone Buc fan at sports bars.
We could actually put Rivers’ picture on the side of the stadium.
Other than that the advantage would only be in $$$ savings, if there are any.
March 8th, 2020 at 7:55 am
Bucsfanman
That’s a hell no. Not one of these FSU homers would be on board with keeping any QB who threw 30 picks. Like I’ve always said, if Winston had been a Cane, they would have wanted him gone after year 4. I’ve never understood the college homerism bleeding into the NFL.
March 8th, 2020 at 8:04 am
Sign Rivers draft Love.
March 8th, 2020 at 8:17 am
You know, too many people here only look at the most recent season. A lot can happen in one season, good or bad.
Rivers only had 12 picks the year before, and 10 the year before that. But of course, people here hold the 20 against him. Nevermind that Rivers has been considered one of the best for more than a decade.
The only knock on him is his age. Otherwise, I would take him in a heartbeat. But it would also mean beefing up our oline. Considering he had 57 completions at +20 and 12 completions at +40, I would say his arm is plenty strong enough.
If Rivers comes cheap, and if we can repair the weak areas of the oline, and if we are able to draft a quality QB to be his heir, then I’m all for it.
Better option than Dalton or Bridgewater.
But…I still think Winston will be the guy.
March 8th, 2020 at 8:19 am
Bonzai,
Thank you for your response. Great points.
March 8th, 2020 at 8:21 am
I thought the whole plane was to hire a veteran & draft a future QB that Arians thinks will succeed. Hope that still is the plan. And River would be perfect for the Role.
March 8th, 2020 at 8:23 am
Bucsfanman Says:
“If Winston was not a 1st overall pick, would we even be having these conversations? ”
Yes. Because Winston is still going to get people excited at times. He still appear elite at times. And also, the 30 picks are an abnormally.
Mike Glennon was never as good as Winston.
March 8th, 2020 at 8:26 am
Remove Brady from the equation and Rivers would probably be the hot topic this off season.
Thanks, Steve!
March 8th, 2020 at 8:29 am
The Buc organization is truly insane. They can observe a fourth former QB win a SB. Arians is so full of €r@p it oozes from his ears.
March 8th, 2020 at 8:30 am
The Bucs only need a guy like Rivers for two years, maybe less. Rivers still threw for well over 4 grand for those who think yards alone matter. More important is that while Rivers throws more INTs than anyone would like, it was still WAY less than Winston, and has much more valueable experience and is proven at winning and making better decisions. He is a leader of his team right out of the gate and will energize our fan base and give them hope. Plus, he can complete a sentence and doesn’t around talking about how he’s ballin’ when he’s really just losing games for his team. Even the Jameis nutlatchers would see the merit overall. Those that don’t wouldn’t be Bucs fans anyway.
March 8th, 2020 at 8:37 am
Joe should learn how to make comparisons. Joe is incorrect in saying that Rivers is an aging, immobile form of Winston.
First, always compare the young guy to the old guy who came up first. Here’s what I mean.
Winston, like Rivers, can throw for a group of yards, and has a younger stronger arm, but has never won his division, never taken his team to the playoffs, has a much worse problem with turnovers than Rivers and other QB in the NFL, and makes poor decisions off the field that hurt his team in addition to on-field headscratchers that no one makes.
That is how to make the comparison. That is, Winston will likely never acheive what Rivers has.
Oh, here’s one. How many people out there are saying “We gotta go get Winston?” No one really. I see one media hack in Chicago saying of all FAs, Winston is a gamble but could be best, but he’s not exactly shouting it to the rooftops. Even among the Bucs fan base, I’d more would rather have Rivers over Jameis, and itt’s due to many factors.
March 8th, 2020 at 8:48 am
Thinking about the old movie with Michael Keaton, “Gung Ho” where Keaton’s character is talking about after a softball game and beers with the Japanese auto executives, they can p for distance. And the Japanese executive says “In our country, we do it for accuracy.”
And enter Brad Johnson…who was very good a running an offense and very accurate. Not as strong an arm, but very “effective” which is the word to focus on. Rivers is very effective. He makes good decisions and by all accounts of his numbers over the years, is pretty accurate. Winston has one year where he improved on his deep ball but that is hardly his forte. So imagine Rivers being more often, better able to drop it right into Evans, Godwin, Brate, and Howard…a better touch with more room for YAC. So frankly, the comparison of Rivers to Winston may not be warranted anyway. Winston was probably lucky he had guys like Evans with a giant catch radius and Godwin who can successfully go after a wild throw…what if Winston has Rivers’ receivers? Or another lessor corps? He might already be out of the NFL.
March 8th, 2020 at 8:54 am
Bonzai- “at times” is the problem! Mentioning 30 INTs is irrelevant. Nobody is even close when comparing turnovers since drafted in 2015. Take away the 30, he still leads the league.
He would’ve been long gone if drafted later and you know it because “at times” isn’t winning games.
March 8th, 2020 at 8:54 am
Formerly, who exactly is going to be the heir apparent that the Bucs find in the draft? At 14 they may have a shot at the 5th best QB in a weak QB draft. You guys are so delusional. It is very rare to find a good QB later in the draft. Yes it happens but it is an anomaly. You will typically end up with a guy like Glennon who can’t cut it as a starter. Jesus, after 30 years of not being able to find a franchise QB one would think Bucs fans could understand this.
March 8th, 2020 at 9:02 am
Dapostman…if you define “typical Buc move” by drafting a turnover machine who is a liability to society and they ignored all the warning signs and made the mistake and still drafting Winston, you could be right.
Drafting Winston is the second biggest mistake this franchise has ever made. Bo Jackson continues to be the worst ever. Oh, the third worst mistake? Keeping Winston for a fifth year.
March 8th, 2020 at 9:09 am
TouchdownTampaBay…the Bucs don’t need to draft a QB this year necessarily–but Formerly is right…a good plan. Yes, they could draft even lower for a developmental player and hope for the best, but Rivers is a legitimate walk-on capability for now and probably another year. They could still draft a QB higher next year (probably, hopefully lower in the first round) and the new guy will have a year or so under the Rivers tutelege.
You Winston nutlatchers are all live-for-the-moment ain’t you? BTW, the proven weak QB class had Winston and Mariota leading the way.
March 8th, 2020 at 9:12 am
Can any of you Winston nuthuggers see a weaker QB draft class than this?
2015
Jameis Winston, Florida State. …
Marcus Mariota, Oregon. …
Brett Hundley, UCLA. …
Bryce Petty, Baylor. …
Garrett Grayson, Colorado State. …
Sean Mannion, Oregon State. …
Blake Sims, Alabama. …
Connor Halliday, Washington State
OMG, what a disaster. Winston was just the first turd into the water.
March 8th, 2020 at 9:48 am
Rivers is a nice stopgap. The Bucs would almost certainly draft a QB early if they make this move. Drafting a very promising QB to old a clipboard for 1-2 years is a good thing. I won’t be upset. The only thing I don’t want to see is a long term Mr Pick-6 deal without a “real” backup in place. Who the heck knows what Griffin can do for more than one series in one game.
March 8th, 2020 at 9:50 am
So you’re saying that Winston was the best QB in the 2015 Draft…So he’s got that going for him, which is nice.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=X48G7YVWW4
March 8th, 2020 at 9:53 am
No way do we want Love who throws too many interceptions. Fromm is too short and often is off target during games. Take Morgan out of FIU deep in the draft.
March 8th, 2020 at 9:53 am
@Bucsfanman
It is winning games with a good kicker and a defense. For two years in a row, they cost us 6 games twice…so instead of 5-11, we should have been 11-5.
You cannot blame Jameis for that, not accurately. If the defense and kicker had done their jobs those two years, we would have made the playoffs both years.
Even if Winston had been taken in the 3rd round, that would have been enough reason to keep him. And that’s how the owners and GM look at it.
So it would at least be discussed.
March 8th, 2020 at 9:57 am
If we draft a QB, I’d like Tua or Eason. Tua will probably fall to us because he has to sit a year due to injury. That’s enough to make teams hesitate.
Barring that? I prefer Eason in round two.
March 8th, 2020 at 9:57 am
I’m sure that a Lot of Winston’s Bucs teammates would be happy and relieved to have a new QB. I’m sure they are very tired of and disgusted with playing very hard in games then watching Winston give them away.
What they have to say publicly might just be a lot different that what they say privately
March 8th, 2020 at 9:59 am
I also don’t want Jordan Love. He is too much like Jameis. If we give up on Jameis, I prefer a different type of QB. And I have a great feeling about Eason.
March 8th, 2020 at 10:01 am
I guess mentioning FSU homers gets your posts deleted now.
March 8th, 2020 at 10:02 am
This is what CBS Sports out there as the priority order for FA QB signings (Sullivan’s rankings). It includes pending free-agents and potential trade matches. I don’t agree with the order per se, but I do agree with who is first, and who is last. Pretty bad with a 1st overall pick unrestricted free agent is ranked lower than several guys not even available. Ouch! LOL! You suck Winston!
Tom Brady
Philip Rivers
Teddy Bridgewater
Andy Dalton
Nick Foles
Ryan Tannehill
Marcus Mariota
Jameis Winston
March 8th, 2020 at 10:05 am
Does anyone think the Bucs won’t go after Rivers, Teddy, really any of those guys before Winston? I could agree on Mariota, but any of the others are more accomplished where it counts and take better care of the rock.
March 8th, 2020 at 10:11 am
BrianBucs…you are so right. As it is, the way Wnston throws to his recievers they take some serious shots going after the ball. Yes, part of the game, but too many catches from Winston thows require acrobatics. Or the guys who are wide open but Winston is channeled on one guy and throws a pick. Or they bust their hump making catches to get down the field only to have Winston give the ball away to another team. No doubt guys like Evans and Godwin, already with 1000 yard seasons, have to be thinking they could do even better with a QB who is more accurate and takes better care of the football, who doesn’t kill drives before they start. I’ll bet Mrs. Evans and perhaps soon-to-be Mrs. Godwin, Mrs. Brate…will be relieved when Shameis hits the dusty trail.
March 8th, 2020 at 10:14 am
Stop the madness! Phillip Rivers?? Really?? Some of you guys can’t be serious…smh
In 16 years, in a division that’s had a pretty bad Raiders team the whole time, a mediocre Broncos team (until Payton went there), and a pretty mediocre Cheifs team (until Andy Reid arrived) What has Rivers won?? Nothing, in 16 flippin years!…
He’s not a winner at all…and let’s not pretend he hasn’t had anything to work with over that 16 year time span…He’s had HOF caliber offensive players like Tomlinson, Gates, and Vjax to work with, solid offensive lines, top 10 defenses over the years, and still never won anything…Not to mention, he’s a sack magnet with no mobility at all…hes almost 40 and still throwing 20 ints with a whopping 23 TDs a season average for his career…
Please tell me what am I missing here… Phillip Rivers imo is the most overrated QB in Free-agency…Hed be the last guy I’d pick…Even Brady is super risky; he’s 43 and Belichick has proven that he knows the perfect time to move on from his players; they usually flop big-time when they leave the nest…
Bottom line, when the Patriots lets a guy walk after an extended stay they’re done…Some desperate team is gonna take the cheese on one of these over the hill QBs and get pie all over their faces…
I’ve heard so many rumors and potential scenarios…
Imo, No! to Andy “Red Ryder BB g*n” Dalton, No! to Nick “I can only win in Philly” Foles, and No! to “Mr. Glass” Teddy Bridgewater…
If we can’t resign Jameis “Space Mountain” Winston to a deal that works for both sides, I’d like to see us find a way to get Carr…He’s experienced, I like his arm, he’s still young, and he has plenty mobility…he’s is probably the only QB I’d personally be happy with…
The real question is what QB out there is tough enough to play in this offense because any QB in this offense is guaranteed to take a beating…
March 8th, 2020 at 10:18 am
This mystery will come to an end real soon!!! It all comes down to does Brady stay or leave…
March 8th, 2020 at 10:21 am
Check ya sheet!!! Of the two quarterbacks rivers had the worst o line by far and it ain’t even close. If he comes to tampa even Dotson is an upgrade compared to chargers o line. They are the ones who would ruin a rookie quarterback. Winston had his chance and if BA is going after a veteran so be it I’m all in.
March 8th, 2020 at 10:22 am
Tua & Eason will be off the board before we pick… Some will move up to take QB before Miami picks at 5… At least 3 QB’s will be off the board by pick 10…
March 8th, 2020 at 10:38 am
OneBuc55…ultimate nutlatcher. “Please tell me what am I missing here… Phillip Rivers imo is the most overrated QB in Free-agency…Hed be the last guy I’d pick…Even Brady is super risky; he’s 43 and Belichick has proven that he knows the perfect time to move on from his players; they usually flop big-time when they leave the nest…”
Yeah, like Logan Mankins who did a great job here for a couple of years. Oh yeah, much better decision to keep Winston than throw the dice on a risky Brady. As for Rivers, what 16 seasons, losing record for five of them, but most often a winning record in a division of stud teams like KC and DEN. Hasn’t missed a game in 14 years. 8 REAL probowl selections plus two alternates. Pro Bowl ’16, ’17, ’18. The AFC West has often been the heat and when not winning the division, 9-7 has been common. All of these blow Winston away.
GTFOH. Too funny. you asked what you’re missing…so there you are.
March 8th, 2020 at 10:40 am
So look at what Pewter says about a bad O line, and Rivers still being upright for every freaking game for 14 straight seasons. Can’t really say he’s not able to hang.
March 8th, 2020 at 10:41 am
If the Bucs sign Brady, Rivers, Teddy, Tannehill, Dalton, Carr, or even odd men out like Stafford, Foles…the lid will blow off this town in hope and excitement for Bucs 2020. If they stay with Winston, it will be “meh” and not a whimper.
March 8th, 2020 at 10:59 am
If all these free agent QB’s are so good then why are their teams letting them go?
March 8th, 2020 at 11:01 am
Signing Rivers is a one way ticket to 7-9…….we can do that with Winston already even with a bad defense. Good defense + Winston= 10-6.
March 8th, 2020 at 11:01 am
He bought a nice house on 30A so he is living in the sunshine state
March 8th, 2020 at 11:23 am
I dont understand any of this Rivers to Tampa stuff. San Diego straight forward said Rivers we don’t want you. He to had a lot of talent around him and he also had a lot of interceptions. So why would Tampa grab him. They might as well kept Winston and draft a QB and develop him. I am sure the Bucs can at least 10 games with Winston. Hell we won 7 games last season with 1 game lost by a missed field goal and at least 2 games lost due to a bad defense at the beginning of the year
March 8th, 2020 at 11:26 am
It’s not about the new free agent QB being the “guy” but rather the decision that jay-miss is not the guy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If Rivers is the target, then that will mean that the Bucs will be targeting a qb high in the draft this year or next!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!
March 8th, 2020 at 11:31 am
First of all Hethrow, what’s up with the name calling?? Real mature…
Secondly, you never answered the question genius…
In 16 years, in an overrated division imho, with a dormant Raiders franchise and a Chiefs and Broncos team that for most of Rivers career San Diego arguably had more talent than until recently…What has Rivers won Hethrow?
Ok genius, you came up with Mankins, who was done by the way as I said (and he wasn’t 43 flippin years old)…please name a few more Hethrow since you have all the answers and everyone else with an opinion different from yours is a stupid “nut latcher”?? As I said, Belichick knows exactly when to unload an over the hill player…
Yes I like Winston and the weekly rollercoaster ride is frustrating but for the right price I feel he’s still the best option out there…BA stated Winston was 1 of the Big reasons he came out of retirement now assuming he stays BA needs to get off the golf-cart and coach him up…
March 8th, 2020 at 11:56 am
El Buco Realisto…so revealing!
March 8th, 2020 at 12:04 pm
I’m glad the fans don’t get to pick the team, Sean Murphy-Bunting would’ve been cut early and we never would’ve gotten to see him blossom. Same goes for QB, what BA decides is what we’ll roll with, even if some of the fans think it’s “meh”.
March 8th, 2020 at 12:10 pm
Joe is correct. Rivers is just an aging version of Jameis with a lot more experience. He will sling it down field though on a moments notice. Rivers has no mobilty at all though. I’d keep Jameis before I signed Rivers.
March 8th, 2020 at 12:31 pm
I’m a huge fan of Rivers career but after watching a few games last year… yikes! An older Jameis is much closer to reality than is comfortable. I’d hope for the best and assume he’s going to cost a lot less than $30M but also be a little worried… better include a great rookie QB too.
March 8th, 2020 at 12:45 pm
No I call BS he threw 20 Ints BA wouldn’t trade Jamies who threw 30 an hes way younger Rivers threw 20 an almost 40 I think Teddy is the Guy an they were using Rivers to keep them off there Trail
March 8th, 2020 at 1:50 pm
Winston, Brady, Rivers, Dalton, Arrians…the one constant (and fly in the ointment) will always be the abysmal owners.
Regardless of what happens player-wise the Bucs will suck in 2020 and beyond.
It all starts at the top and trickles down…just ask the Kraft family
March 8th, 2020 at 2:31 pm
Hethrew 30, hahaha yeah. “Has someone dropped their Baby Ruth in the Pool!?”
I ask myself, who would I want to guide our Rookie QB? Winston or Rivers? Rivers all day hands down. Why would we expect or really want Winston to be our newest QB drafted’s on the field instructor or franchise role model going forward?
Go Bucs!
March 8th, 2020 at 5:12 pm
Bonzai- Fair points as always, however, none of it can be looked at in a vacuum. You can make arguments all day about what “should’ve or could’ve” been. Kicker lost games, defense lost games, coaching lost games, AND the QB lost games.
The point is that we have been a bad football TEAM for some time. Like it or not, Jameis has been a part and contributed to that.
These conversations would not be occurring if we had “our guy”, IMO.
March 8th, 2020 at 5:54 pm
The only time Winston’s leadership come come into question is when clueless national pundits like himself have questioned it.

Winston’s “mobility” primarily was not a result of a poor OL, or a poor running game, it was primarily a result of poor reads, poor decisions, and holding onto the ball waaaaaay too long.
Do you guys/gals/xirs even WATCH the games? How often were you yelling “THROW IT!!! THROW IT!!! THROW IT!!!” only to end in taking a bad sack or throwing another int.
Winston himself caused many if not most of the QB hits.
I do NOT understand Winston knob polishers…

Bucsfan77, this just goes to show how narrow minded you are. I’m always going to be a Bucs fan and have my opinion on how the team is managed, just like the rest of you. If I want to give up my season tickets and sit at home and watch the games is completely my prerogative. My personal opinion is that Philip Rivers is no better than Jameis Winston. Philip Rivers has never won anything at the NFL level Despite being surrounded by talent for many years.

Sign Rivers as a bridge QB and draft Jalen Hurts!

The difference is that Arians couldn’t fix Winston, and may think he can fix Rivers and that it’s not just old age.
