Andy Dalton & The Bucs

March 7th, 2020

Bucco Bruce Arians was low on the totem poll as an AFC game broadcaster during his stint with CBS in 2018.

And that he means he didn’t get the best games to call and he watched his share of Bengals film in preparation for those football Sundays.

It makes Joe wonder what Arians really thinks of Bengals QB Andy Dalton, who likely is on the trading block. Remember, the Bucs signed Breshad Perriman because Arians fell for him after calling three Browns games for CBS in 2018.

Dalton, 32, is hardly a special quarterback. But as Decision Jameis looms, Dalton is out there and the three-time Pro Bowler feels a lot like a Carson Palmer kind of project. He’s due just $17.7 million for the 2020 season, the final year of his contract.

Patriots icon and former Pro Bowl defensive end Willie McGinest has been down on Jameis for years, per his regular chattering on NFL Network. And this week he said the Bucs would be the ideal fit for Dalton.

“Andy Dalton still has a live arm,” McGinest said. “He’s a playoff-style quarterback. He’s smart. He’s played in a few different systems. Bruce Arians likes to throw the ball down field.  … Go in. Air it out. Show that you still have that live arm. And he’s motivated because he got benched last year.

Former Packers and Raiders receiver James Jones was alongside McGinest on the NFL Network set and seemed aghast. Jones is a big Jameis fan and he challenged McGinest, who then said of Jameis, “Maybe not there [in Tampa], but somewhere.”

Joe doesn’t know what the heck McGinest was talking about when he said “playoff-style” QB. That’s a headscratcher.

Much earlier last week, Jones raved about his one Raiders season with Derek Carr, another three-time Pro Bowler with an inexpensive contract who may be on the trading block.

Jones explained that Carr throws receivers open extraordinarily well and can do it all on a higher level than many people believe.

    They signing Jameis no doubt

    Short term bad decsion for a team with too many unknowns and a team which is much closer to another basement title than contenders. Even the delusional optimists realize this circus is not one or 2 players away…

    Was that above photo Arians picture after the overtime game pick 6?

  7. Ndog Says:

    This is what people want, Dalton, Carr, Bridgewater, a 43 year old going to a new team for the first time. Simply put be careful what you ask for. I am truly concerned about this franchises ability to make quality decisions.

  8. #1 Pick QB 2 Cent Brain Says:

    Playoff style, protects the ball, is smart with the ball and doesn’t make more dumb decisions than smart decisions during a game

    Vinnie Testeverde & The Bucs…….yep, I’m waiting for the article….

  10. Hethrew 30 Says:

    Jameis is hardly a special quaterback either. Dalton takes care of the football. Wisnton does not. Dalton has won his division and taken his team to the playoffs. Winston has not. Winston is living proof that throwing for 4 to 5 grand in yards a season does not mean playoffs or even a winning record are coming, especially when you lead the pros by FAR…by FAR….worth saying twice, in giving the football to the other team. And Winston does it at the worst times, in the places, as the data ESPN posted shows. Dalton is not the QB of the future, neither is Winston. But Dalton could be the QB of the present. He can insert some hope for fans on the fence with or down on Winston. Even though in Winston’s court (many of whom are certainly in prison or on their way) can understand why Dalton may be more effective than Winston in a number of ways, even if his raw talent isn’t as good.

  11. Hethrew 30 Says:

    Ndog, I am very careful what I ask for, and one thing I know for sure it ain’t Winston.

  12. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Ndog, you are judging the franchise by what the fans and media say. Just wait and see. They’ll do what is right.

  13. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Andy Dalton totally sucks, and if they were to want to trade for him, I would fire everyone involved if I were the owner.

    If Andy Dalton was on the street, he’d be backup material at best.

    But I don’t see the Bucs trading for a QB…to move up in the draft and select one maybe.

  14. Ndog Says:

    Ok Andy Dalton is better than Jameis, you just keep on believing that.

    My goodness that’s all I’ll say, my goodness.

  15. Hethrew 30 Says:

    The only reason I’m down on Dalton over Rivers or Bridgewater is he is still under contract and I’d rather not have to give up anything. The Bengals are not so foolish to release him unless he creates a stink and demands it. Which I doubt. Brady would bring instant huge crowds and a winning attitude and atmosphere. Rivers would inspire and intrique fans and change the attitude around here, but on much lower level than Brady. Teddy COULD be the QB for the foreseeable future and give us time to build more while not being out of contention in the first six games every year. That is, Teddy is a winner. He si a beacon example of who people and players should be. Tannehill would still be an upgrade over Winston in terms of reliability and effectiveness with experience and taking care of the football, and be what Teddy is on a lessor scale. Derek Carr, sure…but like Dalton, he is under contract and may cost something we shouldn’t give up.

    But make no mistakes, any of the above would be preferred over Winston, football or business or face in the community. Winston is a sh1t stain on the Bucs franchise, on the NFL, and on humanity.

  17. Umm Says:

    Yeah I’m done supporting the bucs if they bring in Dalton as a starter. Anyone on board with this move is a complete idiot

  18. Hethrew 30 Says:

    Ndog…define better? Catchup TDs that are never enough to win? Yards that come mostly after the season is over.

    I’d rather have the more EFFECTIVE QB. A guy who is there for his team. A guy who takes care of the ball. A leader. A guy experience in winning in his division at the very least. A guy who doesn’t choke when it’s on him to perform. You know, I like the “un-Winston.”

  19. Ed Says:

    Name one Quarterback that has been talked about in different articles on this site that has won or even played in a playoff game. No not Brady, because he is going back home. We are talking about a Quarterback that was benched by the Bengals,”Give me a break.” Go out and find a Kicker, and you will win more games and also grab Barber or Brook for the G.M. Stop blaming Winston, for a long list of failures with this team. This team has not had a winning season since coach Morris, ” Next Man Up.”

    ~~~~~~~
    Andy Dalton does not “suck”. — He had 4 straight years of double digit wins and playoff appearances, including a 33 TD season of his own, in there.
    Whether or not he is the answer for US, of course remains to be seen. But he is certainly not a chump. Plus, he does play Arians’ style of ball.
  21. Tampa Bay Demon Says:
    Umm Says:
    “Yeah I’m done supporting the bucs if they bring in Dalton as a starter.”
    ~~~~~

    Then maybe you just aren’t a BUCS fan if you would jump ship that easily.

    I mean, I love JW too, but it’s BUCS first. Always will be.

  22. Hethrew 30 Says:

    Demon, I detest Winston for all that is, plus all that he is not, where most of population meets a higher standard in many ways. But I still support the Bucs. And I never boo him and hope he wins every game….because I am a Bucs fans. But you are Winton nuthugger over Bucs fan if what you say is true. That’s all up to you, but the Bucs don’t lose in losing you, and players come and go. I’m pretty sure Mika Grimes won’t be there this year either, but who cares?

    “Name one Quarterback that has been talked about in different articles on this site that has played in a playoff game.”

    Dalton. – 4 straight years after double digit victories.
    Sorry but you did ask.

  24. Mort Says:

    Rather have Carr than Dalton. Rather Winston over both.

  25. tnikkichristy@gmail.com Says:

    Based on five years of inconsistency (guy has never had under 10 picks in a season) a quality decision would be to let Winston test the market and see if he can get 30 million. In the meantime continue exploring cheaper (but viable) options like Bridgewater, Carr(if he’s released), even Dalton has had years where he threw for over 4000 yards but his td to interception was much more reasonable; i.e., 1.5-2.5 range vs Winston who is consistently in the 3-5 range.

  26. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    Hethrew 30,

    Pretty sure you misread the post, dude. I was criticizing SOMEONE ELSE for saying they would jump ship.

    I will NEVER fricking jump ship.
    I am a BUCS FAN.

    Yes, I am a JW fan and have been the whole time.
    And if he moves on, I will continue to pull for him to do well.

    But if he plays against the BUCS…
    I will root for us to win 58-0, like I do every other game.

  27. Hethrew 30 Says:

    Demon, you are right…Sorry, man.

  28. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    No problem at all, my friend!

    We may have been on different ends of the JW debate, many times, but we are definitely wearing the same colors.

    GO BUCS
    and have a nice weekend

  29. Joe Cappadonna Says:

    One year for Dalton should work….at least he’s not infamous Jameis

  30. Oneilbucs Says:

    Man this fanbase sucks lol lol lol … Please let Jamies go can’t wait to see the next quarterback come in and fail with this trash vertical type of offense with no running game lol lol lol . And then who’s fault it’s going to be then . Lol lol lol

  31. Bird Says:

    No playoff

    So same as jamies
    So weird

    That pittgame
    Male butt cheeks

  32. Formerly Tampa 2 Says:

    Dalton, Carr, Rivers, Bridgewater, etc., any would be an upgrade over Winston. And hopefully the plan is still to bring in a QB to bridge to a QB in the draft that Arians wants. I will tip my hat to Joe though, because he times his articles and brings up Names to get everyone on here fighting over each name. Lol

  33. Tval Says:

    Because joe likes making you look remedial, tampa 2. Lol!!!
    You can BARELY argue Bridgewater. And thats if he reaches winstons floor. The rest are WASHED up. Give me a break with this nonsense. Dalton is TERRIBLE.

  34. Pick6King Says:

    Dalton has actually made the playoffs. Jamoist can’t even spell playoffs. Tampa is the only organization dumb enough to even consider the turnover machine as their starting QB. If Joe or the other nuthuggers can enlighten us as to even one other team that is clamoring to lead the NFL in turnovers, please let us know. Bueller….bueller…..bueller…..

  35. WalkThePlank Says:

    I look at Jameis from an entirely different point, I see him from the perspective as a human being, his personality- strengths, and his weaknesses. I see him as a person who is very emotionally driven, he gets all jacked up because he wants to be excellent, he wants to Win! ( Example- eating ‘W’s. ) He wants to inspire his teammates! He hasn’t learned to control his energy & thoughts, and to channel them with precision, accuracy to achieve the results he has in his heart to accomplish. I see it in his expressions, when things go good & when they don’t. His heart & passion for the game is what makes me love him, cheer for him. I believe he is an untapped well of greatness. He needs to dig down deep inside of himself, with True Grit mentality. Learn from his mistakes, mature with determination, fortitude to overcome the setbacks. I know he can do it.! I understand his dilemma because I am a person of similar ways. Much older & wiser, but still filled with awe of life and all it holds for us. Football is a big part of mine. I love it. I was at Tampa Stadium when we drafted him, I’ll never forget the feeling & atmosphere that night.! What a rush of excitement. Go Jameis, Go Buccaneers! Go Seminoles!!

  36. Defense Rules Says:

    Mort … Personally I’d rather have Carr than Jameis, but I’d rather have Jameis than all the rest who’ve been mentioned ad nauseum over these past few weeks. For the right price of both of course.

  37. Formerly Tampa 2 Says:

    Tval, I don’t think I’m the cause or the cure, do you? Maybe you should make better use of the English Language.

  38. Defense Rules Says:

    WalkThePlank … Good perspective, and I like some of those qualities in him too. But in the end, 52 other players on the Bucs’ TEAM depend on Jameis to PERFORM. As do the coaches and fans. And owners. It’s Jameis’ PERFORMANCE that thrills fans at the same time that it scares the daylights out of them. Inconsistent? Yes. Unpredictable? Most assuredly. The only NFL QB that I know of who can take you from Mt Whitney to Death Valley with a single throw.

    “Rush of excitement” like you said? Oh yes. Losing record after losing record? Yup. No playoffs? Surely. Big question? Can Jameis be ‘fixed’ to the point where he can take us to the playoffs? Your guess is as good as anyone else’s for sure.

  39. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

    Well said WalkThePlank. I am not an FSU fan at all, but man was I excited the night we drafted him. The haters all ignore the greatness he shows at times. I hope he doesn’t decide to give all the haters the finger and sign somewhere else as soon as he hits free agency. Despite TMax and his trolling, this team is very close and I strongly believe that next year will be the year as long as the Bucs do the right thing and bring him back for a second year in this system. I don’t want retirees, game managers, or the 4th or 5th best rookie in a weak QB draft. He has the tools and the heart, now he just needs to reign in the mistakes and we can start stacking Ws.

  40. MirrorMirrowOnTheWall Says:

    It does not matter who the Bucs have at quarterback, they are going to do what they do which is lose. I hope the Bucs sign Brady. The Bucs will be a 3-13 team.

  41. Craig Says:

    The thing about Dalton is that, even with a couple of bad years, his record is still on the winning side. No one can say that about Jameis.

    Those down years really weren’t Dalton’s fault, the team fell apart around him. He would probably be recharged here with good receivers and TEs with so much potential.

  42. Isaac haggins Says:

    Dalton -No No No ……….. Carr as I’ve said since Dec . Hell Yes !!!

  43. bucsfaninoregon Says:

    Plank walker, you write a very eloquent post regarding your feelings for Jameis. Unfortunately, not all of us have the same (very)emotional attachment to him. Many of us think he will FOREVER be haunted by the same type of turnovers he displayed in college, AND WE DON”T EXPECT HIM TO IMPROVE! We, like you, had great expectations for him. We have watched him for five looong years. Last year was the longest.

    Your post where you combine your loyalty to Jameis and the Bucs with FSU is very telling. Would you feel the same if Jameis was from the Gators? From Oregon Ducks?
    Personally, I doubt it which means that your evaluation is greatly influenced by where the player goes to school. FSU has contributed many players to the NFL, but certainly going there is no guarantee of success.
    Jameis will never make a premier QB and is not worth a 6th year at 30M- -not even close.

  44. WalkThePlank Says:

    Defense Rules I totally understand what you are saying. The frustration & doubts are real. I have gotten angry over the entire situation also. It’s disheartening to attend the games because sitting in the blazing hot sun for hours of disappointment really stinks. It’s difficult to be positive but I love the Buccaneers and I keep my positive vibes going forward the best that I can. It’s a matter of ” How Bad do you want it? ” like Tim McGraw’s song says. If Jameis wants it bad enough, then he will apply himself 100%. It is a challenge that he has to rise up to at this critical point in his career. I see his potential, he’s intelligent, & has talent. I can only hope for the best from him.

  45. tmaxcon Says:

    TouchDownTampaBay

    Very close…. lol you have a great sense of humor pal if you truly believe that please contact a mental health professional

    How can a team be close with no clear direction at qb, entire dline unsigned and best pass rusher unsigned, secondary in diapers not to mention a coaching staff that has never built a winner or won anything on thier own….

    yep we are real close

    Joe, for the bring in a new qb crowd i wonder how many qb’s in the first year of a new system with a sophomore play caller are favorites to win a championship……

    Yep we are close…. this team has far more questions than answers….

  46. tmaxcon Says:

    Before the brad Johnson nuthuggers spout off its a much different situation sapp established the defense well before. Sapp carried those backups to the fluke championship that they would have choked away if Gruden didn’t feed the defense raider plays. Highly ranked defense on a bad team that choked in the postseason that is the true buc glory years.

  47. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

    So Craig, when Dalton lost it was because the team fell apart around him??? Interesting, because Jameis has had to deal with one of the worst defenses in the history of the NFL (save for one year when they went 9-7) but you don’t give him any leeway for the same problem.

    Bucsfan, I completely agree with what WalkThePlank said and I have zero allegiance to FSU. I am a Bucsfan (like you) and I want them to win and 2020. I think Jameis gives us the best chance. Much better than Dalton.

  48. WalkThePlank Says:

    bucsfaninoregon Oh my gosh, I am a Seminole, but that doesn’t make me biased with leniency towards Jameis. Quite the opposite. I am harder on him than my husband is, and he’s a Gator! True story. I support Jameis because I see something special in him. I want him to be great. You know, like being a parent or grandparent. You see the spark in them and want them to do their best. I actually have favorite players on different teams, and do my best to keep up with their progress and status. As fickle as the NFL is, any player can eventually go to another team, so I don’t use blinders. My fantasy teams allow me to do it, so it’s awesome.

  49. WalkThePlank Says:

    TouchDownTampaBay Thank you, I appreciate your support of my thoughts and feelings. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one who thinks Jameis can overcome his mistakes and succeed. I was very young once too. I haven’t forgotten my willy-nilly procrastinations in life. I believe Jameis wants to stay a Buccaneer. We will know soon. The haters are always going to be negative. But I find them to be inspirational in my quest to be helpful and find positive goodness and rays of light to shine in their dungeons. 🙂

  50. Bucsmarley Says:

    Not saying Jameis isn’t more talented than Dalton but daltons makes much better decisions.

  51. Cobraboy Says:

    WalkThePlank, Winston’s fatal flaw is what you like: his emotions…which get out of control.

    He is just the opposite of, say, a Tom Brady or Troy Aikman who were singularly-focused without emotions getting in the way of their performance.

    I do not believe Winston’s human emotional flaw will ever be under control.

    I’d prefer a cold, efficient, steely-eyed surgeon at QB over a cheerleader.

  52. Tye Says:

    Palmer with the Bengals coaches wasn’t exactly stellar but under Arians he made the Cardinal more relevant those few years…

    I’m coming around to the idea of Dalton because the Bengals coaches have been mediocre and yet AD has been to playoffs and pro bowl (legitimately too; not 4th or 5th alternate like JW)… So maybe Arians does unlock greatness in AD that the Bengals coaches just weren’t good enough to coach him up!

    Carr could turn out the same also…

  53. Dapostman Says:

    @Tye,

    When was the last year Andy Dalton made the playoffs?
    2015

    Where has he been lately?
    6-9-1
    7-9
    5-6
    2-11

    I thought it was about winning?

  54. WalkThePlank Says:

    Cobraboy That’s ok that you feel the way you do. I’m always interested in other people’s viewpoints. We learn that way from each other. Without differences in opinions, we become very bored. I enjoy reading all the posts on here, even the cranky ones. It will be interesting to see how things turn out after free agency and in time, gains or losses from the decisions made when the new season starts.

  55. BucHead588 Says:

    I’d rather anyone then Dalton Teddy Rivers Carr Tannehill like literally anyone but Bucs are not trading for a QB they want there Picks they are going to sign Teddy or Jameis honestly I like Jameis but 30 Ints is crazy an I keep thinking what if it dosnt get better next year if they resign him what if he throws 25 Ints like i just want Bucs to win an Teddy who has been to the playoffs with the Vikings in his 2nd year I think it was has developed really well after his injury he got to learn an sit behind one of the Greats in Brees I mean Brees went down teddy’s came in started next 5 games an the Saints didn’t miss a beat like you just lost one of best QBs of all time on Brees for 5 weeks an Teddy goes 5-0 like yes I’ll take him here people are sleep if Teddy can throw 9 TD – 2ints in 5 games that is on track to be 27TDs 6 Picks

  56. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

    Tye, so you believe Dalton has greatness that could be unlocked if he was coached up and given two years in this system? You believe that even though Jameis is by far the QB with the much higher ceiling? You think Dirk Koetter was a hall of fame coach here in Tampa?

  57. Defense Rules Says:

    Cobraboy … I think Jameis’ ‘human emotion flaws’ have been largely (but not entirely) due to his seemingly being immature. He had the physical abilities and skillset to be an outstanding QB in HS & college, and it appears a LOT of folks overlooked his immaturity. Especially at FSU.

    As a consequence, I think his pro-coaches kept treating him with kid gloves instead of with ‘tough love’ … which is exactly what he needed years ago IMO. I thought BA would change that last year, but he didn’t. And I think it bit him in the ass at the very end of the season. And he knows it.

    IF Jameis does return for a 6th season (and barring a trade I think he will), I fully expect BA will carry through with the ‘tough love approach’ that he’s been espousing in the media. IMO it’ll either be effective … and we’ll see a much better Jameis … or he’ll be grounded and whoever BA brings in as QB #2 will take the reins for the rest of the season. In either event, it’s gonna be a VERY interesting year I have a feeling.

  58. Ed Says:

    Dalton is last choice prefer Bridgewater, Carr, Stafford or Brady as first choice.

    As fans it’s time to accept that there is accountability.

    First McCoy was jettisoned and defensively the pass rush implant run defense was #1.

    Next up Vernon Hargreaves, wasted first rounder, traded and magically we get better in the secondary.

    The last connection to the losing was Jameis, it’s his time to move on and try and salvage his career.

  59. Buccaneerscotty Says:

    Winston = Vinny 100%

  60. Cobraboy Says:

    WalkThePlank, I am far less concerned about the soft, fuzzy side of Winston’s fragile emotional state than the wins and losses. And turnovers.

    The dude is 26 and a millionaire. Grow the f@<k up, Jameis, Buc fans are tired of your s#!t.

    Just win, baby

  61. Cobraboy Says:

    DR: perhaps Jameis Christ is not particularly coachable when it comes to his emotional state.

    I will never forget his meltdown and sideline tirade in the freakin’ national championship game against Oregon.

    Has he changed? Doesn’t seem so…

    I’ll bet I’m not the only Buc fan..or coaches and teammates…who are tired of his stuff, either.

  62. Cobraboy Says:

    If Winston had thrown 3500 yds, but only 12 ints, we would not have this controversy.

  63. Big_Buc$ Says:

    I’ll say it again. If Tampa doesn’t address the offensive line, defensive line depth, Running back, and special teams the results will be the same regardless of who is the quarterback this fall. I just don’t get how a QB from a team worse than the Bucs will lead them to a super bowl? At this point I dont care who the QB is I just want wins. If Winston I’m cool if it’s someone else I’m cool but Dalton or Brady I’ll pass. Brady doesn’t fit this offense because we dont run shallow crossing routes and flare pass to running back. Since everyone puts the team record on the QB Dalton and Carr records not much different than the bucs. Losing records folks. So we will soon see what the BA will do in a week or so.

  64. JimmyJack Says:

    I think Winston returns. But if not I could see Dalton work out nicely here. Think Bruce could wisper something real nice to Andy.

    Andy gotten a bum wrap in this league cause of his franchise. Unlike the Bengals our Bucs are ready to surge. Not a bad fit at all. Winston still better though.

  65. WalkThePlank Says:

    cobraboy I agree with you in the matter of Jameis’s need to grow up. It’s all about balance & as far as the soft and fuzzy side, not everyone has it. There is much to be said for genuine, caring people who put their hearts into whatever they do. He’s who he is for a reason. I was upset with him all last season, even ranting & raving about him, but I’ve looked at the broad spectrum and it’s still possible for him to achieve success, so that’s what I’m hoping for.

  66. DoooshLaRue Says:

    JayMiss is a pitcher.
    Ndog is a catcher.

    But seriously…. JayMiss should play baseball.
    No defenses to read.
    Just throw it.

  67. NPRSageBoy. Says:

    The BA picture associated with this post is hysterical.

    I imagine that’s what he looked like on JayMiss’ final Pick-6:as a Buc.

    Peace, out

  68. tickrdr Says:

    “Haters” and “huggers”. Diametrically opposed opinions, with only a few “in-betweeners”, as SPBF defined them . As one of the “clueless haters”, my questions for the “huggers” include:

    How many more years would you give Winston to show his proverbial “high ceiling”? One more year? Two? Five? Is there a date that is too late for him?

    If his play next year is the same as this year, lots of yards and TD throws, but still lots of turnovers, what then?

    Will he ever have a 2:1 TD:INT ratio, and if so, when?

    Would anyone care to tackle those questions?

    “Ndog…define better? Catchup TDs that are never enough to win?”

    That is completely wrong. Multiple times, Jameis led the team down the field to take the lead, only to have the defense blow it in the final seconds.

  71. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    El Buco Realisto, he worked with Jameis before. And if he was prejudiced, he would not have babysat Tike and Ronde Barber.

    Try again.

    I am all for Andy dalton. When he had weapons he had really good numbers. He had aj green, Marvin Jones, and Mohamed sanu and he threw for 4000 plus yards. He averaged 3800 yards and threw for 80 tds and only 49 interceptions and that was his first three years in the league. And made the pro bowl twice and the playoffs twice. How do you people say he sucks when those stats make jameis look junior varsity. I would be willing to bet anything that Andy dalton would throw for over 4,000 yards closer to 5,000 and have around 30 tds and 8-14 interceptions. Jameis will never have a year as a full starter under 15 interceptions for the rest of his career

  73. Natron Says:

    Jameis Jones !!!!????

  74. CPN Says:

    Jeffbuc.

    Winston shills just want to see Winston play, they don’t care about the Buccaneers making the playoffs and winning a super bowl.

  75. Joe Says:

    Joe, for the bring in a new qb crowd i wonder how many qb’s in the first year of a new system with a sophomore play caller are favorites to win a championship……

    Well, Arians himself said it takes at least half a year to get the hang of his offense. So if a new quarterback comes in, that clock gets reset.

  76. Buczilla Says:

    If we don’t resign or franchise Jameis, I’d be ok with Dalton as a backup if he slashes his salary in half. He’s better than Gabbert and maybe he’d be willing to mentor a rookie QB?

  77. Tye Says:

    ‘that clock gets reset.’

    Arians also said December did not go the way he would have liked so maybe Arians don’t think the clock ever even started with JW… A whole season in the system and JW didn’t prove he has learned it yet by the last game… So if Arians says half a season to learn his system and JW failed to do it in a whole season, that may be where Arians has lost faith in JW..

  78. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Jameis’ talent is probably top 5 among NFL QB’s
    Jameis’ Decisions? – Could win a Super Bowl or could go 0-16.
    Jameis’ emotions? – Every NFL player is emotionally driven, that’s a big reason how they made it to begin with.

    The question is : what’s the reward/ risk in relation to the team’s chances of success in terms of performance gauge and salary cap affect vs another QB option?

    Raiders aren’t trading Carr unless they get Brady and even then they would want a high draft pick.
    Dalton would cost a draft pick AND an investment in another draft pick for a rookie QB
    And both those scenarios you lose Jameis as well.
    Only the UFA’s would cost the talent potential of Jameis – so you weigh the UFA’s talent and cost vs Jameis’

  79. Seemore Bucs Says:

    Carr reminds me too much of his underachieving older brother. No thanks. I’d take Dalton over him any day. Dalton has proven he can get you to the playoffs on a regular basis. Carr? Not so much.

  80. BucEmUp Says:

    With our defense I woukd take Carr, I actually think Carr may be an upgrade to Jameis is some ways and a step back in others, but like Jameis Carr has been on a crap team since hw was drafted. Id like to keep Jameis but Carr would be the only available qb I wouldnt be upset about.I dont want Dalton, Rivers, Newtwon, Tannehill and Brady isnt going anywhere its all a show for new england to have an advantage to sign Tom some new playmakers while other teams drool over him.New Englad will ink some free agents first and then immediately sign Brady

  81. BucEmUp Says:

    Only an idiot would blame the wins and losses.of a team on one player.Qbs need a team around them to.succeed. I base Jameis wins and losses on the second half of last season when his entire team started playing better.If they kept this entire team together, the defense continuing to play the way it finished the season and a better running game its a playoff team. I agree with others in here and would take Carr after Winston .Dalton doesnt impress me, although he has alson been on a team with a coach that shoukd have been.fired long before he was maybe he would have had a better career…maybe Dalton would work but my order is Jameis, Carr.and if push comes to shove Dalton but really dont want him

  82. Cobraboy Says:

    Dalton may not impress many because he plays on a poor team in a tiny market that gets little exposure.

    Tampa Bay is big time compared to Cincy.

    There is a reason Burrows has sent out vibes he doesn’t want to play in Cincy.

  83. RGA Says:

    Dalton was sent to the bench on the worst team in football.

  84. unbelievable Says:

    First commenter nailed it!

    Carr would be fine.

    Fk no to Andy dalton.
