It’s highly interesting when the brother of a Buccaneers legend speaks out on national radio and says he expects America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, to be playing for the Miami Dolphins in 2020.
That’s what happened yesterday, when Tiki Barber opened up on the NFL quarterback situation on CBS Sports Radio. Barber also works as a FOX game analyst during the regular season broadcasts.
“It’s very simple why,” Barber said of Jameis landing in South Florida. “Look, they want to go after a quarterback, a young quarterback, Jameis is established. Obviously, [Ryan Fitzpatrick] is going to be their starter going into camp; put that into quotes.
“They have a new offensive coordinator in Chan Gailey who runs this spread offense, which basically is spread it out and throw it deep. That’s what Jameis does best. He may throw a lot of interceptions, but if you can create a situation where he has a downfield threat, I think it could work. And Devante Parker finally, finally, started to turn into that wide receiver everybody thought he was. I’m going to say Jameis to the Dolphins.”
And in case you were wondering, Barber believes Jameis would take expensive-backup pay to go to Miami to resuscitate his career.
In Barber’s world who would come to the Bucs to start at QB? Nick Foles, who Barber said is a big-armed thrower that fits their system.

I don’t think the Dolphins would be a landing spot for Jay-Miss. They tanked, made trades, and now they have three (3) first round picks! They’ll be drafting their next starting QB.

I can tell you from what I have honestly heard from multiple sources, this isn’t happening.
Jameis’ team is targeting $30M+/year. In addition to the that, the Dolphins are working a 4-5+ year strategic cap/talent management process. Their strategy all along has been a rebuild around a top rookie QB that has an annual net cap hit far below any free agent QB they can sign.
Jameis is definitely not going to end up in Miami. After finding lukewarm demand for his services in free agency, the ‘prove it’ type of deal and opportunity to compete for a starters job will come from either the Bears or Raiders.
Lots of chatter that Gruden & Mayock will make an attempt to convince Jameis to sign with the Raiders in a highly incentivized deal to allow him to compete with Carr for the starters job. Raiders (like most teams) won’t roll the dice and had Winston the starting reigns. Bears may consider a similar situation to bring Jameis in to compete with Trubisky but it would also be under a very incentive-based, cheaper contract without as much guaranteed money.

The Bucs won’t offer Jameis ANY contract. He would be more of a distraction than anything, even if kept in a backup role. There’s too much ‘passion’ involved on both sides with Jameis and the Bucs & Glazers know it. The FSU fans and Jameis diehards would constantly be calling for him to play during any slip up by the new starting QB.
Arians knows you can’t build success around your starter if half your fan base is always pressuring the team to put your backup into the game. The positives of Jameis knowing his offense does not outweigh this issue.
Jameis Winston is long gone from Tampa Bay. He has played his last game as a Buccaneer.

True, and there’s no shame in that for him. Apart from Tampa there are very few landing spots for him. Most other teams already have a QB or are going to draft one. That’s why Miami makes no sense. The Dolphins have a ton of cap space and a ton of picks to really improve that team in a hurry. Why would they use up so much cap space paying Jay-Miss starter money when they could draft a guy and get the similar results?

That’s about as likely as the moon being made from cheese.
MIA will draft Herbert over Tua & let Fitz-Magic mentor / hold the reigns for about 1/2 a season before rolling out the Rookie.
PIT… If JW3 hits the open market, look for PIT to be the spot he lands.
He is a young Big Ben body type QB & PIT’s play-action pass off the running game, fits his skill-set perfectly. But JW3 has always looked like a square peg in round hole – trying to work the Big12/MAC vertical spread offenses of Keotter/BA w/o a serious running game to take the pressure off! The most logical spot for Jameis is the Bucs, even if the haters think otherwise.
On a side note, Jameis has completed 61.3% of his passes for his career, so Jay hasn’t Missed that much.

Tye no person in there right mind would pass up holding a clip board for 16 games making 12 million a year. Versus staying in one star hotels traveling by bus to 500 people in the stands minor league Grapefruit League baseball player. Making $55k a year. He could be a backup for his career make 100 million since he could get 3-4 more contract before he retires at 20-30 per tots contract. And maybe play in ten games that whole time. Sounds like a great gig to me.

You guys are some of the worst fans I’ve seen. Let’s list all the problems on the offensive side of the ball.
Worst O-line in the league = no running game and no pass protection.
One dimensional offense – passing game only
2nd worst kicking games in the league
Receivers running incomplete routes
Mr. Entertainment trying to hard to win.
But let’s put it all on JW because he was the only problem on the offensive side. He cost the bucs some games but he also won games and brought the bucs back within a winning score that Gay blew.
The bucs are going to wind up with a QB that may not lose you games but they will win you any games.

Tom Brady completed 60.8% of passes in 2019, which is .1% percent better than Jameis at 60.7%. The Patriots don’t call him Tom-Miss, like some Bucs fans love to say Jay-Miss.

Sorry man, but no I don’t think so.
The Doug Williams situation (at that time with Hugh Culverhouse at the helm) sadly felt like it might have something do with things other than football.
I don’t really think Jameis would feel that the BUCS treated him unfairly. They stuck by him after some issues… and gave him a chance to grow. They brought in a coach that they thought was their very best chance at bringing the best out of JW…. and by accounts they really like him personally.
I don’t think there is going to be a “Jameis curse”. — It might just be his time to move on, and hopefully he finds great success out there.

ENOUGH of the “no running game” excuses!
This myth has been BUSTED.
Doug Martin ran for a whopping 1,400+ yards in Winston’s first full season on the NFL and Winston still have major INT and turnover problems.
Jameis diehards love to never talk about this. If pressed, they chalk it up to Jameis being a rookie. But the fact remains, a solid running game (or lack thereof) is not why Jameis Winston consistently turns the ball over.
And enough of this FALSE CRY about the Bucs having a terrible O-Line. They don’t. They rank higher than more than half the O-Lines in the NFL for pass protection and for other key stats. Winston’s QB hits and sacks are skewed by time in the pocket (and holding the ball longer than most QBs).
Oneilbucs – don’t worry, your dream is about to come true. Winston is definitely going to end up another team. The only problem is, he may never get to start again for an entire season. No NFL team has a perfect O and D. It’s the nature of the salary cap in the NFL. To be stronger in one area you have to be weaker in another. The Bucs invested heavily in the Offense (most expensive OL at times) and is why Jameis was able to up bigger numbers. But don’t blame his ineptitude and poor play (and lack of WINS) on the Defense or others on the team.

SteroidHamster’s 1400yds (in a contract yr) suckered the FO into investing in him on a 2nd deal…& the team stayed in the dumps because on FO moves. Not JW3 play. He didn’t go all 30/30 before BA’s “risk it, no biscuit” offensive philosophy should up.
JW3’s successful 2016 launch & Mr 1400 being the play-action catalyst toward future success, went null & void – fast…RiodWeasel got popped & instead of FO dumping him (at ZERO risk & Zero $$) & re-investing in another RB quickly…The FO stuck with him & paid him & got nothing in return.
They screwed up Y2 & Y3 of JW3 before drafting RoJo – in a panic move / after Chubb went to CLE…. Then Keotter wouldn’t play RoJo (cause he was a rookie & made rook mistakes) & the bucs ended up w/ unspectacular Barber as RB1…Again, nice guy – great back story – BU RB from the jump…FO passed on stud RB’s left & right after Martin’s burn.. 5th round Boise Flop here / 6th RD FB cut there.

Jameis could make excellent sense for the Dolphins…a true win win…Obviously Fitz is gone if that happens.
Then you have JW as your bridge starter and go ahead and draft the future. If they both work out what a wonderful problem to have. If JW blows up you still have the ace in the hole to trade later…if JW fails…you have the backup ready to go.
The upside to JW is still off the charts. Somebody will believe they have the magic potion to fix the choking…and indeed if an OC protected JW and called really safe games perhaps that could work.

Jameis led the Bucs to a mighty SIX wins that year that Martin rushed for over 1,400+ yards. Winston only made the Pro Bowl because multiple Pro Bowlers decided not to attend. Real fans of the NFL know that Winston did not truly earn a Pro Bowl appearance.

The more I think about it, Foles might not be a bad idea. Would come cheap because the Jags would pay a good portion of his salary & the Bucs could probably have him for a 5th or 6th rounder. Of course I still prefer Carr or Dalton.
