Is Ryan Tannehill In Play?
March 5th, 2020The potential Buccaneers quarterback rarely discussed is Titans soon-to-be free agent Ryan Tannehill, and believe it or not, the 31-year has a winning record in 101 career starts.
And Bucco Bruce Arians did say he likes being around winning QBs.
Including a 2-1 playoff record, Tannehill is 51-50 as a starter on teams that often lacked an extraordinary supporting cast.
But that’s the not the point here, Tannehill is a guy capable of pumping the football downfield and he will protect the football. Former Bucs QB Chris Simms talked about that at length on NBC Sports Radio.
Twice Tannehill had 4,000-plus passing seasons with the Dolphins, and he’s thrown just 28 interceptions in his last 37 starts, including playoffs. He might be a Bucco Bruce Arians kind of guy, and little is being discussed of Tannehill improving under Clyde Christensen when they worked closely during the 2016 season in Miami.
Chirstensen spoke about his respect for Tannehill on Indiana sports radio last week.
Joe listened and walked away thinking Tannehill is someone that could be on the list of door No. 2 prospects because of Christensen’s strong connection. After all, Christensen was tasked with evaluating Tom Brady film for Arians, so it’s reasonable to think Tannehill was on his list, too.
Tannehill twice faced Arians’ Cardinals teams. In 2012, he was 26-for-41 for 431 yards with 1 touchdown and 2 picks in a loss. In 2016, he outdueled Carson Palmer; Tannehill threw that day for 195 yards with 3 touchdowns and 1 interception while completing 75 percent of his passes.
Against Todd Bowles’ Jets teams, Tannehill had 8 touchdowns and 3 picks in four games.
March 5th, 2020 at 1:52 pm
Now I wouldn’t mind this option… depending on the cost…
March 5th, 2020 at 1:56 pm
He (almost anyone) has to be better than Winston!!!
March 5th, 2020 at 1:59 pm
Who is the last QB the Bucs signed who had a good half of a season and the Bucs made a starter.
Mc…
what was his name?
Mc…Cown.
Yeah, McCown.
ANYONE BUT WINSTOASNDGSAODGO21O412O412!!!!!!!!!
March 5th, 2020 at 2:00 pm
I can’t see the Titans parting ways with him BUT if Tannehill is door #2, that is an outcome I would on board with!
March 5th, 2020 at 2:04 pm
Everyone should be in play because even if Winston comes back no one in the right mind would give the keys and act as if he will magically stop throwing picks because hes in year 2 of an offense. Only time hes not throwing picks is when hes out of uniform.
March 5th, 2020 at 2:11 pm
Not to mention just look at the players who thrived once they left Gase. Off the top of my head I can think of K. Drake, D. Parker, and R. Tannehill. Meanwhile Bell is having his worst career year along with Darnold… also think Robby Anderson could’ve flashed more. Still don’t know how this guy has a HC job in the league.
March 5th, 2020 at 2:14 pm
What if the Bucs stole the Titans big 3, bring us Henry, Conklin & Tannehill. I could live with this. Then you don’t have to waist a early draft pick on QB and could focus on the front 7 & S in the draft
March 5th, 2020 at 2:15 pm
Tannehill had less talent around him in Miami than Jay-Miss.
The funny thing with the Titans situation is that they had as many delusional Mariota fans as this team has Winston fans. For **YEARS** Mariota fans would claim they didn’t have a running game and the offensive line sucked.
Funny how Derrick Henry blew up last year after Mariota was benched and that offensive line became one of the best in the NFL.
March 5th, 2020 at 2:18 pm
Get Tannehill and RB Derrick Henry. PLAYOFFS AHOY!!!!
March 5th, 2020 at 2:19 pm
But did he throw 40TDs?
I’m just saying.
Check the sheet!!!!
March 5th, 2020 at 2:19 pm
Also a little off topic but Markus Golden is reported to hit FA. Is familiar with BA and Bowles and last year signed a 1yr $3.75M deal and hit 10 sacks (per PFT). Could be a candidate to replace JPP if we don’t have enough money to resign him (would still prefer to keep JPP).
March 5th, 2020 at 2:26 pm
I’m ok with this, but so nice to go into a season without hearing about Winston !!! I and others tried very hard to root for him because he was on the team and after 5 looooooong years of the ups and downs it needs to come to an end !!! I can actually say I’m excited for this season .. Please just one year of winning and can turn Yucs back to Bucs
Sincerely season ticket holder since 2000
March 5th, 2020 at 2:31 pm
Tannehill is talented for sure. Every year I’d think it was his year to blow up and I’d take him late in fantasy thinking I’m smarter than everyone else.
Well he never really did squat but in his defense Adam Gase is a joke of a coach and his receivers were always hurt and they kept trading away his RBs.
Plus it’s Miami, how many of his teammates were more into their own talent as opposed to South Beach’s? Prob not many.
With that being said I still think for 2020, Jameis is our best shot. Tannehill ain’t getting any younger and we don’t have half a season to waste waiting for Tannehill and this offense to get up to speed.
March 5th, 2020 at 2:38 pm
Unfortunately, with Brady staying in NE, Tannehill won’t be available unless the Bucs are willing to break the bank for his services.
That’s too bad, since Tannehill might just be BAs next Carson Palmer.
Peace, out.
March 5th, 2020 at 2:39 pm
sounds like JW is behind door#6….lol….
GO BUCS!!!!!
March 5th, 2020 at 2:39 pm
Ryan Tannehill isn’t horrible, but he’s not even available. He’s not better than Winston.
Those saying anyone would be better than Winston are delusional. Talent and production-wise, there are no free agents who are better, and so far as trades, no one who is better is available at the moment.
• Carr would be a lateral move in a trade, but the cost would be huge if the Raiders were willing to trade him, and they are not.
• Brady will stay with the Pats
• The Lions have said that the rumor of their willingness to trade Stafford is laughable, not to mention he had a major back injury last year.
• If you don’t want to look stupid, don’t even suggest Dalton.
• Rivers is short term option if the Bucs plan to draft a QB.
The Bucs only talked to 4 QBs at the combine. Jordan Love, Jacob Eason, Nate Stanley, and Kevin Davidson. Jordan Love won’t be there for us, Eason might be there in the second round, Nate Stanley might be taken in the 5th round. Kevin Davidson in the 6th or 7th round.
March 5th, 2020 at 2:44 pm
SMH
Tannehill is one of the most overrated qbs in the nfl. You guys are losing your d*** minds.
March 5th, 2020 at 2:45 pm
Ryan Tannehill is not better than Jameis Winston and if you disagree, you do not know football.
Period.
March 5th, 2020 at 2:55 pm
Buccernutter their hatred of Winston runs deep and they can’t get back to losing 27-10 and running through game managers every two years.
March 5th, 2020 at 2:55 pm
Can’t wait
March 5th, 2020 at 2:58 pm
Rather him than teddy. Still need to draft a potential franchise qb. For the love of God we’ve never had one!
March 5th, 2020 at 3:01 pm
TDTB
I seriously think this fan base would be content if they just liked all of their players. A lot of them would rather be 6-10 with tannehill than 10-6 with winston and i sincerely believe that.
How dumb would it be to get a qb who is either 2 years out of retirement or a guy that is known to be a check down artist over someone who led the league in yards and #3 for tds in year one of a system that is known for early turnovers and a pass first mentality who had rough vision, a broken thumb, a torn meniscus and 2 of his best players out for a number of games?
Bruce isn’t that dumb and has all of you fooled, including the media.
March 5th, 2020 at 3:08 pm
He is interesting because if Brady leaves NE and doesn’t sign with Tampa, he would probably be signing with Tennessee. So Tannehill becomes available.
March 5th, 2020 at 3:10 pm
folks dont know football…..LOL…
the QB doesnt have to be better than JW…..he just cant turn the ball over….
jimmy g aint better than aaron rodgers but somehow jimmy g beat AR twice…..
jimmy g had 0 turnovers in those 2 games…..AR had 2INTs in the playoffs….
jimmy g also beat JW….
now is jimmy g better than JW?….
9ers won that game because of what?……you guessed it!!!!….INTs!!!!!!!!!!!
GO BUCS!!!!!!!
March 5th, 2020 at 3:14 pm
some of these so called fans are just nuthuggers…lol….
if JW is QBing the bucs, they are totally fine with being 6-10 every year…..
GO BUCS!!!!!!
March 5th, 2020 at 3:17 pm
813 that’s an idiotic take.
I wonder how many of you think tannehill bridgwater rivers dalton rivers or carr would have had a better record than jameis the last few years wtih a bottom 5 run game and defense and nearly the top of the league in sacks allowed.
Clueless, passionate fans is what you guys are.
March 5th, 2020 at 3:17 pm
my bad, didn’t mean to write rivers twice.
March 5th, 2020 at 3:19 pm
813
HAHAHA you think a qb who isn’t better than jameis would win because he didn’t turn the ball over as much?!?! HAHAHAHA
With a bottom 5 run game, bottom 5 passing defense, and an inconsistent kicker with nearly the top of the league in sacks allowed?
Nice cherry picking though.
March 5th, 2020 at 3:21 pm
813 so we just need Glennon?
Are you officially bringing back the MGM?
I’m sure he could get you 3,200 18/6.
Do you think that wins more games?
The Bucs won 5 of 6 games last year WITH Jameis. So saying we can’t win with Jameis couldn’t be more false.
March 5th, 2020 at 3:22 pm
I hope so, though I doubt it. Tennessee will tag him. The Bucs should be getting ready to blast e-mails to a bunch of people. They might end up with Jameis, so they need to draft another QB and coach up Griffin.
I think Tannehill could do well here if the Bucs work on their run game too.
March 5th, 2020 at 3:27 pm
Alaskan
If we have the defense we ended with and evans godwin healthy, an upgraded run game, matt gay improvement, then a lot of qbs can win in tampa.
Including our inevitable starting qb in 2020, jameis winston. Especially in year 2 of the system and healthy.
Get used to it guys.
March 5th, 2020 at 3:33 pm
I agree, I don’t believe Jameis is our only option but I believe he is our best option in 2020.
Jameis is primed for a big year, if his Ints were cut in half, we are talkin about potential MVP candidate and Bucs are probably in the playoffs. I don’t think he will even have 20 next year.
So, even if everything is exactly the same, I think with JW’s improvement, it will be enough to finally push this team into the Playoffs.
March 5th, 2020 at 3:38 pm
Tannehill is unimpressive. The Bucs are never going to get to the big dance with this guy. Why bother…… if the Bucs are going to replace Winston, swing for the fences.
March 5th, 2020 at 3:40 pm
Alaskan
100% agree! He is on the verge of being elite. No qb has as many ints in year two of a system. He will most certainly progress. Too many factors that people think are excuses occurred in 2019. They are legit reasons. No qb will be better in year 1 here then he will be in year 2.
I get everyone is mad about kinsman, the uber, crab legs, etc but all of those incidences are going on 4+ years. He is obsessed with the game and on the verge of breaking out. He will break out in tampa. I’m just curious to see who comes around haha
March 5th, 2020 at 3:49 pm
Did anyone even watch the titans in the playoffs? Tannehill was the problem, not the solution.
March 5th, 2020 at 3:52 pm
Winston 72 game 88 INTs in 2548 attempts
Tannehill 100 games 81 INTs in 3197 attempts
Tannehill 49-49
Winston 28-42
Tannehill y/a 7.2 ay/a 7 y/c 11.4
Winston y/a 7.7 ya/a 7.7 y/c 12.6
The main differences in their stays is W/L and INTs
I did forget though Tannehill’s Dolphin teams were completely stacked
March 5th, 2020 at 3:58 pm
40 TDs Says:
March 5th, 2020 at 2:19 pm
But did he throw 40TDs?
I’m just saying.
Check the sheet!!!!
==============
He didn’t….neither did Winston. He never has and he never will, unless he has 55 turnovers in the same season….and the season is extended to 20 games.
March 5th, 2020 at 4:07 pm
If you are going to continue with the bag of excuses don’t forget the wind.
March 5th, 2020 at 4:11 pm
swapping out 1st rounders that can’t live up to being a 1st rounder doesn’t sound like the best plan.
March 5th, 2020 at 4:15 pm
If the bucs are even remotely thinking about Brady or Phillips or even Bridgewater money is out the door the price doesn’t matter.
March 5th, 2020 at 4:16 pm
nutter
you just got set up dumb@$$!!!!!!!!….lol….
please explain how jimmy g beat the bucs…..
jimmy g only had 166yards passing and they rushed for under 100yards….
we had more passing and over 100 yards rushing….
secondly, is he better than JW?…..
answer those questions if you have the balls fat mouth!!!!!
GO BUCS!!!!!!

Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:
March 5th, 2020 at 3:21 pm
813 so we just need Glennon?
not saying bring him back but we couldve won 5games with him as our starter….lol….
winning 5 out of 6 games wont cut it in the NFL…..lol….
sure we’ll win “some” games with JW as in 4-6games, but we wont win 10,11,12 games with him…..
GO BUCS!!!!!
March 5th, 2020 at 4:24 pm
Tannywho would be such a typical sucker third rate franchise move that it will probably happen. Fml
March 5th, 2020 at 4:25 pm
Matthew Fifer,
Pretty sure that the guy’s 40 TD’s comment is in jest.
He is adding BUCS TD’s and Pick 6’s.
The joke is kind of old, lol.
March 5th, 2020 at 4:31 pm
Handing the ball to Henry is a nice luxury. Then playing good defense. Ryan was throwing 20 times a game if that..
But let’s just look at one stat and run Jameis outside town.
March 5th, 2020 at 4:42 pm
“sure we’ll win “some” games with JW as in 4-6games, but we wont win 10,11,12 games with him…..”
I disagree, we’ve already won 9 with him, with a much less capable staff and team around him.
March 5th, 2020 at 4:44 pm
813
You’re still talking about one game by Jimmy G!?
Hahaha man, you’re dumb. That’s was such a stupid example. I can’t stop laughing. You say the most idiotic things on a daily basis.
March 5th, 2020 at 4:45 pm
That**
March 5th, 2020 at 4:54 pm

i listed 2 games fat mouth….if you knew how to comprehend you wouldve saw that…..
jimmy vs jw and jimmy vs rodgers…..
i have 12 other games i could go off of…..lol…..

B B B B ut but but Winston threw for 5,100 yards. Are we going to just let that get away?
He11 yeah!
Worthless chump garbage yards can’t sell tickets and uses Jesus as his biggest BS scam ever. Oh, Jesus, save me, make me look like an honest man, not a thug! Help me with my Uber sins. Help me with my lies! Help me with Erica! Help me with my INTs! Help me look like a man! Help me pretend like I’m worthy of $30M!
Bahahahhaahahahha!!!!!!!!! Winston is not fooling anyone. Check your sheet!
March 5th, 2020 at 5:04 pm
Hey nutter, when other parts of the game were clicking last half of the season, Winston will still blowing it. Get a life, loser!
March 5th, 2020 at 5:09 pm
Jamoist has almost as many losses as Tannehill but in 31 fewer games. Plus he’s never even sniffed the postseason. Clearly Tannehill is an upgrade over America’s turnover machine. If they move on from the failed number one overall pick, pro bowl alternate, pick 6 king, we will finally have a great chance at making the playoffs. Go Bucs!!!
March 5th, 2020 at 5:09 pm
Hethrew 30 Says:
“when other parts of the game were clicking last half of the season, Winston will still blowing it.”
—
Will what??
Is this even English?
March 5th, 2020 at 5:27 pm
Jaymiss of course has not sniffed the post season—he is too busy trying to tell people he is ballin’ when he’s throwing footballs to the other team. We should let him throw to non-Bucs receivers full time! Time for Winstunned to show Tampa some love and throw balls to our D for a change. Time to let Shameis to throw for another team…that is best way he can keep the Bucs in the game late! He best work to help the Bucs is yet to come!
March 5th, 2020 at 5:30 pm
But with Jaymiss as a free agent, we should be careful as all those teams line up to sign him! HaHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!
Hey did you guys see that Papa John’s and Nike commercial on TV primtime the other night that starred Shemeis Limpston? No, neither did I!
He is best to replace Tebow for T-Mobile though. NO CONTRACTs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
March 5th, 2020 at 5:39 pm
Clearly there are a bunch of options out there better than winston including guys who are under contract lol BA has never said a word to throw anyone off his scent. Free agency is two weeks away and he’s made it clear bucs will be in the market for a quarterback……what is he gonna say when the dinner bell rings hahaha nah we were just kidding winston is our quarterback, dont be dumb because winston fragile emotional state has been rattled over much less than this. Else everything else falls a part we will offer him a contract maybe that is he they are treating him and everyone can see that clearly except the nuthuggers
March 5th, 2020 at 5:40 pm
Maybe some are too young to realize the Doug Williams Curse is real.
March 5th, 2020 at 5:47 pm
But seriously, what do you think are the best circumtances where Lameis could get a SB ring?
Ans: Riding the pine for the NE Patriots.
March 5th, 2020 at 6:01 pm
Buccenutter
What was your point about jameis being 10-6?
That has never happened in his career In pros
One season of 9-7. The rest not so good
I know though. Everyone else on team sucks. We get it
When they win …its cause of jameis
😂
March 5th, 2020 at 6:42 pm
No running game?
If I’m a DC against the Bucs and Winston, I stop the run and sooner or later ATM throws me the ball.
It happened almost two times a game in 2019.
March 5th, 2020 at 7:12 pm
Jameis apologists be damned. Turning the ball over less equates to more victories.
#TurnoverBlind
#NewBucQbWithLessTurnovers
#Historical Turnover Margin and W-L
March 5th, 2020 at 7:13 pm
Exactly, Cobra!
Hence all the 8 man boxes for Barber and RoJo. Make Jameis throw it and you’ll be eating up opportunities for turnovers.
March 5th, 2020 at 7:54 pm
The Bucs wouldn’t mind having Jameis back, but at their price. Jameis is not getting 30 million per as reported as to what his camp wants. Door number 2 I believe simply means if you won’t play for us at this number then peace out! You can’t throw 30 picks and think your in the driver seat to negotiate a deal. Bucs are driving his market down. Other teams are second guessing why the Bucs his very own city doesn’t covet him so by not signing him to a long lucrative deal its driving his price number down. I think he is option A but at a certain price point.
March 5th, 2020 at 8:21 pm
If I recall correctly we won our only Super Bowl with a strong defense and a game manager QB.
March 5th, 2020 at 8:27 pm
This is big news! People and players are united in huge masses to bring Winston back to the Bucs for 2020. They DEMAND he be the starter in a multi year deal.
There are rallies, protests, sit-ins, etc. planned. Donations to support the PR campaign to support Winston’s big new deal in Tampa are mounting fast. Wow!
All across the cities of Atlanta, New Orleans, and Charlotte, people are demanding Winston be the Bucs starter are in 2020. Big news!
March 5th, 2020 at 8:49 pm
What Barber recently said, per Florio: “Jameis is the guy that goes to a table and puts half his money on red and half his money on black,” Barber said. “What are you gettin’ from him, you know? It’s hard to win that way. It’s definitely exciting. He is a talented quarterback, though, but you got to look at the long-term health of your franchise. And there’s no more important position than quarterback.”
“There’s a lot of options [at quarterback]. There’s a ton of options. And there’s no reason to believe that Tampa isn’t an attractive destination for some of these free-agent quarterbacks because of the way the defense has the ability to play. They’re young in some places. They probably need a safety. They have good young corners. They have two great linebackers. Their D-line, if they get’em all back, which they’re trying to do, statedly trying to do, they’re going to be damn good.
“So if you’re looking at the one piece where you can make leaps and bounds, it’s quarterback. So to me, Jameis, as much as I love him, he’s going into the pool with all those other free agents. I think that’s the best way to kind of feel what they’re going to do at the position.”
And there you have it, as Barber had a baby sitter once named Bruce Arians. Not saying Winston is gone, but sure looks like the Bucs aren’t messing around. Barber also said Arians “isn’t mincing his words.”
So bring on Tannehill…et al.

March 5th, 2020 at 11:19 pm
I’d take this guy over Bridgewater, but I seriously doubt that the Titans would let a decent quarterback go after enduring 5 years of Mariota.
March 6th, 2020 at 12:58 pm
This is ‘shiny object syndrome’ ladies and gentlemen.
