The Panthers’ Housecleaning And The Bucs

As the pre-free-agency rumors fly (we’re just 2 weeks away from the dinner bell ringing), it’s becoming increasingly clear that Carolina is in lose-now mode.
It’s understandable. Two rough seasons in a row, quarterback uncertainty and a head-coach change will put a lot of teams in a rebuild mindset.
Two big Panthers names emerged today as guys who will have new teams in 2020. ESPN is reporting the Panthers are looking to trade five-time Pro Bowl guard Trai Turner, who turns just 27 years old in June. Who trades a Pro Bowl offensive lineman?
Another report that flowed through many channels today claimed Carolina will not pick up the nearly $10 million option on defensive tackle Dontari Poe, who is coming up on his 30th birthday.
Joe’s interest is in Poe, who could be a one-year-deal choice to replace Ndamukong Suh, if he heads out of Tampa. Poe can rush the passer; the Panthers actually led the NFC in sacks last year. Durable throughout his two-time Pro Bowl career, Poe had a nasty quadriceps injury end his 2019 season early.
He finished with four sacks in 11 games, and he could be a nice complement to run-stuffing Vita Vea, who the Bucs often sent to the bench on passing downs.
Regardless, Joe’s happy the Panthers seem ready to start from scratch. That’s good for the Bucs, and it will add pressure to Tampa Bay and Bucco Bruce Arians to perform, especially if the NFL expands the NFC playoff field from six to seven.

Lol interested in any free agent with a pulse. With the way the top of the draft looks I can see going o line with that running back. Those two players dont equal lose now mode. Everyone thought the sky was falling because we got rid of sorry arse Geraldine and doing the same thing with Winston. Major over reaction until after the draft and free agency

Would love a 5 x Pro Bowl Guard who is 27. Get him, cut Jensen and draft a C in 2nd or 3rd. Jensen is a waste of 13 Mil. A year. Although I am sure the cost for him will be high.

Lord C … Did you notice that Joe wasn’t interested in the 5-time Pro Bowl Guard, but rather in the 30-year-old DT Poe to replace Suh? Notice why? Because according to Joe “Poe can rush the passer”.
During his 8-year career in the NFL, Poe’s had exactly 20.5 sacks … yup, 2.5 sacks per year average.
During those same 8 years (comparing apples to apples), Ndamukong Suh’s had 44.5 sacks … yup, 5.5 sacks per year average.
But hey, “Poe can rush the passer” according to Joe, so let’s dump Suh ($9.3 mil in 2019) for Poe ($9.3 mil in 2019) on a 1-year deal and save exactly … oh ya, NOTHING. And we only have to give up 3 sacks per year average to get him. What a bargain … only in Bucsville.

For once, we actually don’t need any of them…..simply sign our players and select a RT, S & RB in the draft…

However, in regard to W. Gholston, they should let him go and use that money to re-sign Nassib…who is basically a younger, better version.

I like the idea of using Gholstons salary to offset Nassib’s pending contract. I’d like to keep Gholston at a minimum salary because I think 5 tech is his true position. Last season was his best year but he’s never been as good as Nassib. I’d also keep Suh over anyone Carolina has.

Could it be that after watching Tristan Wirfs at the combine set all time records in a super human workout, they would be willing to upgrade at Turner’s guard position. He might be there at #7.
They could get some great picks for Turner and save a bunch of money.

Bonzai … Gholston’s due to make $4.75 mil this year. That’s cheap considering that he played almost 500 defensive snaps last year, and was in on a lot of critical stops. With Allen & Nunez-Roches also being UFAs (and likely not returning), it’d be smart to keep Big Will IMO.
There was also a report out yesterday that Conklin is already set to sign with the Jets for big bucks once FA starts (wow, and I thought tampering was against the rules).

I can see the Bucs pick up a younger multi pro bowl oline position except for $40 million Donovan Smitty. Not necessarily Turner but someone.
-Get a center and send Jensen packing. Ali is firmiliar with C in emergency situation.
-A LG and swing Ali back to his natural position at RG.
-A RG. Draft a RT in the third, start teaching Cappa RT and let them battle it out. Cappa could possibly be good depth at RG and/or RT.

Look, last year free agency Suh was on the market forever I dont think it would cost us alot to keep him around, specially since he loves playing for Coach Bowles. Just focus on the guys we have now on the Dline. Also ae Wilma be adding some young blood to both sides of the trenches in the draft no need to waste caproom there unless it’s for a tackle like Conklin.

For several years now Gholston has been listed as DL or DT instead of De. I believe he has been kicked inside quite a bit, 280 lbs I think he worth his weight and plays much bigger. Also agree with DR on Suh. These two are part our excellent run defense from last year.

Dont screw this up Jason. Suh already said he wants to come back….Shaq wants to stay here but not a franchise tag (big mistake if you do that imo, sign the man and make him happy to play hard…he’ll just cost more down the road anyway).
I hope JPP is affordable to bring back, but if not, we will hopefully address that hole in the draft or FA.

Maybe the Bucs won’t be the doormat of the NASCAR division. Other than that, leave it be and get our guys signed. They work well together and have all said that they want to be back. Make that happen.

Ba and Lihct are very particular about what information they put out there. Why would they tell other GM’s that they want Bridgewater? Gm’s are their enemies. It’s not like they have to talk to and GM about a TB trade, he’s a free agent. Every day someone new comes up with a different source that says they know what the Bucs are going to do or who they are interested in. One thing you can be sure of. If you hear a rumor about it, ir aint true.

I think the Panthers are telling the market their intentions with the 7th pick in the draft. Don’t resign Poe then they draft Kinlaw or Brown. Trade Turner, then one of the four top OT’s.

poe is getting to that point for big men where the decline seems to be accelerating. he’ll always be big and he’ll probably always be strong, but i’d bet that things like agility, explosiveness, and most importantly durability & endurace are starting to go fast.
Of course, i could be totally wrong. for the first time in a very long time, i trust the guys watching the tape and making decisions on who deserves to be a Buc
