Backup Jameis

March 2nd, 2020

No suitors?

It seems it is Tampa Bay or bust for Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.

And where does the above nugget come from? Why none other than hot dog eating contest-protestingmock draft-scowlingL.L. Bean-wearingSecond Amendment abolitionistMike Florio-arguingparrot-insensitivechewing-with-his-mouth-opensoup-gulpingCalifornia train-romancinganti-football proliferationouthouse-admiringairline-nappingsteerage-flyingYogi Berra-worshipingurinal picture-takingvideo game-playingTaylor Swift-listeningpickpocket-thwartingBucs-uniform-frowningAllie-LaForce-smittenBig-Ten-Network-hatingpedestrian-bumpingolive oil-lappingpopcorn-munchingcoffee-slurpingfried-chicken-eatingoatmeal-lovingcircle-jerking, craft beer-chugging, cricket-watchingscone-loathingcollege football-naïvebaseball-box-score-readingNPR-honkfilthy-hotel-stayingfight-instigatingbarista-trainingBudweiser-tolerantbaseball scorecard-keeping, pasta-feasting, vomit-dodging scrooge, Kay Adams-following social activist NFL insider Peter King of NBC Sports.

As King rummaged through every hallway and corner of frosty, snowy downtown Indianapolis last week — King was right behind Joe in the TSA Pre line leaving the Hoosier state — he was on a mission to find who will sign Jameis if the Bucs land Tom Brady or Andy Dalton.

King couldn’t find a team that wants Jameis, other than maybe the Bucs, as King wrote this morning on Pro Football Talk.

Fruitless Endeavor of the Week. Where will everyone land? I kept asking people here about the fate of Jameis Winston, and I couldn’t find a landing spot for him. I doubt sincerely he’d be a starter on opening day 2020 if he leaves Tampa (which is likely), but where would/could he be a backup? Let’s guess at other outcomes.

It is absolutely mind-blowing to Joe to think of a guy who led the NFC in touchdown passes and threw for an incredible 5,100 yards, who is just 26, won’t be able to find work. Joe is trying to come up with a more unreal, impossible-to-believe moment in sports, and Joe can’t.

It’s like the guy is all of a sudden Sideshow Bob. It’s just unreal.

Joe is starting to think there’s something going on here that no one outside the NFL knows about. Could the Bucs or the NFL have dug up something on Jameis off the field that would make him this toxic?

It’s the only thing that adds up.

He will find work somewhere in the NFL no doubt, I just hope it isnt in Tampa.

  2. Ndog Says:

This is what happens when one gets railroaded. It’s been happening to him since his freshman year in college. I don’t even believe the most harsh of Jameis’s detractors would say there are 32 better QBs out there if they are being honest.

This will be my last post for awhile as I am getting way to heated, but watching your favorite franchise since the day I was born, just create such a disaster is tough to stomach.

Chat in a week or so fellas.

  3. SteelStudBuc Says:

    @Joe
We’ve been telling you this for how long now??? And you need Peter King to enlighten you? Take off the sunglasses and open your eyes.

  4. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I hope all this Jameis negativity is one big smoke screen, designed to get Jameis to sign for cheap.
I think he did pretty good, considering he was in a brand new offense, with no running game.

  5. Robert Says:

    karma is bi$&*!!!!

  6. Bruce Blahak Says:

Uh, he sucks and everyone knows it except you…your confusion explained…King makes perfect sense to everyone else

  7. LongSeason Says:

I know of reports about alcoholism were rumored in a couple of articles that have led him into bad behavior after the Arizona Uber situation. Could it be that he is still struggling with this condition? Could he have another charge of some sort pending? Could there be looming suspension risks because of off field behavior?

  8. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    We’ll see.

Florio also said teams may not be showing interest because they believe Tampa will tag him.

  9. batman Says:

Joe, at what point are you going to concede that throwing 30 interceptions may be complicating the market for Jameis? Far from being an “unreal, impossible-to-believe moment in sports,” Jameis has made dramatically more mistakes than anyone else in the least mistake-tolerant position in sports.

Simple as that. You don’t need “something going on here that no one outside the NFL knows about” to explain it.

  10. DBS Says:

That’s good Ndog. You Know more then any coach, player, or even player that has played with him that has a negative thing to say. You also know more then any fan in the history of football.

Joe, no one ever said he wouldn’t be able to find work. What most reasonable people have said is that he’s not going to find work as a long term solution for a QB needy team. I’ve been saying it since 2018 that Jay-Miss’ career trajectory is the same as Ryan Fitzpatrick. He will be a bridge-the-gap QB or a backup QB for the rest of his career. There are worse ways to make a living in this life.

I know you’re feigning surprise with some of your articles but you should not be surprised. If the Bucs let him walk then he’s a bust. Simple as that.

  12. Jeebs the Honey Bear Says:

You continue to ignore what has been slapping you in the face all off-season…. Turnovers are more important than his yardage and TDs. Which teams consistently make the playoffs? The ones who will the turnover battles! Guess who didn’t make the playoffs last year? The top 5 QBs in passing yardage! You keep pointing to the 5000+ yards as if that means Winston was good. What it means is that the turnovers kept putting us behind, and he had to keep throwing for more yards to catch up. Winston is inefficient, inconsistent, and a reckless turnover machine. GOODBYE WINSTON, THANK GOD, SO MUCH TIME WASTED ON YOU.

    5years, no playoffs, 1winning season, 3 HCs….

the only way he returns as a starter with the bucs in 2020 is by default…..when you’re drafted #1 overall and your team doesnt re-sign you in your contract year when they have the cash to do so, you’re a bust….

    GO BUCS!!!!

next they’ll come around to trading ME while he has value. we have no need for a jump ball guy when we have a QB who can hit in stride and know when to target someone based on the coverage they see.

  24. SickofLosing Says:

Really Joe, they dug up overt 100 turnovers in 5 years

  25. mark2001 Says:

Joe..I think the problem is that you underestimate the huge red flag the other teams see in those thirty turnovers. And it isn’t just the number…it is the timing of them and the fact that many are just unfathomable. Those are QB and Team moral dampeners. Add to that the not too ancient history character issues, and it is easy to understand why the other teams are ignoring him as a potential starter.

  26. mark2001 Says:

Railroaded? Jameis is the one that designed the crazy train he has been riding.

You are passionate about your team, and passionate about Jameis Winston as a player. Nothing wrong with that. It’s the passion for the BUCS that brings us all here every day.

In spite of our arguments, at the end of the day, we do all wear the same colors.

    Cya soon.

  29. Alanbucsfan Says:

From 2007 to 2016, teams that won the turnover battle won 78% of their games. In the decade of the ’70s, when turnover rates were much higher, teams that won the turnover battle won 78% of their games. From 1950 to 2016, the average winning percentage of teams that won the turnover battle was 78%.

In 2019, 10 of top 11 teams in turnover differential made playoffs. The only one that didn’t? Pittsburgh- down to 3rd string qb and injured rb.

But don’t take these stats seriously when QB’s who played in 1960’s threw interceptions and made playoffs….. clueless.

  30. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Railroaded? By the NFL? He WAS the #1 overall pick in the draft; then it would be up to him to prove he was worth he pick and he has not and newsflash neither has the 2nd overall pick, so I guess both have been railroaded?

  31. Formerly Tampa 2 Says:

Carr’s cap hit for the Raiders is 21,5mil in 2020. Maybe Chucky can see some good in Jameis and make the trade with Tampa. Or sign Rivers and draft a good Qb for BA to train.

“It is absolutely mind-blowing to Joe to think of a guy who led the NFC in touchdown passes and threw for an incredible 5,100 yards, who is just 26, won’t be able to find work.”

A conspiracy against Jaymiss!!! OMG. The biggest mind blower here is that someone who watches football for a living doesn’t understand why multiple NFL teams are not lining up to sign a QB who has historical turnover numbers…….or that passing for a lot of yards somehow cancels the turnovers……it doesn’t.

Time to unhitch your wagon boys……time to get a new horse.

  33. Fb Moderated! Says:

Buc55, that is the real conspiracy here. It must be those Johnny manziel glasses he is looking through.

  34. Hodad Says:

Joes not wearing sunglasses he’s wearing blinders. No one wants him Joe but you, and nutdog. What G.M., or H.C. would put their careers on the line for Mr. 5000? I’ll tell you, none of them!! What city, or fan base would welcome him? None of them! Half of his own fan base wants him gone, and the other half will turn on him with his next pick six that loses a game. Why can’t you grasp the reality that he’s the most despised QB in the league? It’s a business Joe, and Jameis is bad for business. It’s as simple as that.

  35. Buccernutter Says:

How many different qbs do you guys think can come in with the ol, run game, defense, and kicking woes (not to mention bad coaching via lovie, mike smith, etc) in the past 5 years and win with our supporting cast?

Do you guys honestly think many qbs would win with those formulas? Really?

Oh I’m sure I’ll get a mahomes, rodgers, wilson response smh.

Everyone always repeats turnovers, but ignores the supporting cast. I don’t get it. Would you be okay if we were 7-9 and james had 4k yards 22 tds and 8 ints? Then would you want him back?

  36. SC Bucs Fan Says:

Shhhh Ndog is gone for a week…. just enjoy it.

  37. Craig Says:

You really don’t need to dig to find things to judge Jameis by. He has made his mistakes but still hasn’t owned up to them.

One of his mistakes is that he doesn’t feel that his interceptions are a problem. That could be his downfall, but I think that he will be picked up late in the game for cheap. He blew his chance at becoming the $100 million man last season.

He was never railroaded because was driving the hell-bound train himself.

  38. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Buccernutter-
Based on your argument, if Chiefs had a different QB do they still win SB?
If they had Jameis? Mariota? Fitzpatrick? Carr? Dalton? Rivers?

  39. Todd Says:

Rumor has it he self-identifies as a lesbian.

  40. Buccernutter Says:

    Alan

I actually addressed mahomes being a response. I think we all know mahomes is an outlier and quite possibly on track to be the best of all time. So your pt isn’t credible. That’s like saying, “well if mahomes can do it other qbs can do it”.

Name any qb that isn’t already enshrined in canton that would do better on the bucs the past 5 years. Of course every team wants a wilson or mahomes SMH

  41. BucsFIRE Says:

Clearly you have zero sense of humor. Probably didn’t even get the joke, did you? Please descend back into your mother’s basement. She’s run out of Cheetoh’s and you’re just going to have to deal with that harsh reality.

  43. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Buccernutter-

My point is, turnovers have a devastating affect on a team’s chances of winning.
You could have a 1500 yard rusher and if he fumbles 2 times every game, chances are you lose.
You could have a punt returner who leads the league in td’s, but if he fumbles every game – chances are you lose.

All your points about Bucs past problems are valid, but that doesn’t cancel out the QB’s turnover problem.

Sad to see what half of fan we have. And regardless Winston 5 yrs of “int” or “ losing “ it’s not all on him. From Raheem to Schiano to lovie to dirk from dominik to licht. From daquan bowers to McCoy to vea. Not all on Jameis. Until it’s official I’m in.

Pro Bowler? Actually an alternate when others didn’t want to go to the pro bowel. Funny how Jameis lover Joe talks up his boy every day but doesnt mention the 2 checks Jameis wrote to women, The 30 pics, The NFL RECORD 7 Pick sixes in one season or delusional agent wanting 30 million. The only thing that is unreal and impossible to believe is Joes delusions and lust for mediocrity as long as its a Florida St player. Get over him!!!

  48. mark2001 Says:

    Supporting cast?

You mean two second team probowl receivers? And a third we can’t afford to keep because he is too good for #3 receiver money? Yeah…Jameis did have a better than most.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

People who are not fans of JW point out TO’s just like fans of him point out that it was his first year in a new system. But you know what….it was the first year in the system for EVERYONE ELSE. So why oh why is that an acceptable excuse when Jameis plays poor?

Not once has a JW defender said, “it was the first year in this defense, so that’s ok”. Never once has a JW defender said “it was a first year kicker so I know he will be better next year”. Not once has a JW defender been willing to give the O-line some slack because it was their first year in a new scheme. Nope, any of those parts of the team play poorly and they are solely to blame for our loses no matter what.

But JW plays horribly and “it’s his first year in a new system”! Got a little homework for you BN, look up the word “Hypocrit” in the dictionary :).

@mr5000… yeah its racism. Lamar Jackson is the face of the NFL and Mahoms is the MVP of the NFL and D Watson is the most liked in the NFL.People are prejudice to losses and turnovers. No QB in the hisory of the NFL has more turnovers in a 5 year span than Jameis. Throw in a suspension and no one wants to give him 20 plus million and a starting job. Now conversly, lots of teams would love to have him at low $ short term deal to come in and compete with a draft pick or another vet

  56. Adrnagy Says:

As of right now you hear nothing of interest about Jameis but let’s see once free agency starts and all nfl team know he’s available. Everything changes.

  57. Buccernutter Says:

    Alan

Absolutely. He has a turnover problem. The biggest supporters of jameis winston can’t debate that. However, is the sum of a torn meniscus, bad vision, a #32 passing defense, most sacks in the league for half the season, no run game, a broken thumb, and year one in a vertical offense become a valid REASON over excuses? I mean we’ve seen this before with palmer and manning and both have improved year two and advocate jameis will too. Not to mention bradshaw, young, favre, etc. said the same thing. I don’t think people realize that most qbs will come in and do the same thing in year one. Especially a rookie. Maybe the goat tom brady can do better, but it’s gonna be a 2 year rental before the new guy comes and it stinks it up in year 1 or more.

    mark2001

So we are going to attribute all of jameis’s and their success to their ability and not jameis? I mean perriman was a bust until he was called upon and SUCKED most of the year last year. Then he gets dimes from jameis but he’s the reason he succeeded? Let’s not forget oj balled out in dirk’s system with jameis, brate has always been above average when targeted, vincent jackson played well, adam humphries was better with jameis then mariota/tannehill. So is it that jameis has just had the luckiest set of recievers in all of history? Na bro, that’s too coincidental. Jameis is a HUGE reason for their success. Also, supporting cast is not strictly receivers. It’s ol, run game, kicker, and even defense. Which numbers prove he has had nearly the bottom in all 4 categories most his career. Look what happened when defense improved, 5-3 to finish the season.

    Just saying…

  58. Buccernutter Says:

    Matthew Fifer

I don’t have much to say to that except if you haven’t heard someone say it was year one for the defense ol or run game, that’s why they struggled, you’re either under a rock or lying. I have said that many times. I said the same thing about perriman when he started that he needed more volume. I said the same thing about vea, white, rojo, even oj. So that is complete BS.

I think we’re you’re wrong is that jameis isn’t getting that excuse and nobody is vocalizing it a lot about defense and ol because they don’t have it out for them. Most people are looking at jameis’s 5 years and still seeing ints regardless of coaching or scheme and therefore have a double standard. Our fan base is casual as he** and most of them are saying googling stats and attributing all of our failures to jameis’s turnovers and that is the laziest analysis there is. Year 1 in a new system is not equal to 4 years in another and that works for defense, qb, ol, rb, etc.

  59. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Buccernutter-
I can accept your “hope” for improvement if he signs a cap friendly contract- but if it means his salary costs Bucs an impact player on Defense? Not worth the risk to me.

  60. Cobraboy Says:

Winston has no one to blame but himself.

He had his shot in Tampa, and he KNEW he had his shot.

Simply stated: Jameis Winston blew his chance for a long-term deal…anywhere.

My money is on the only way he’s back in Tampa if all the Door #2’s are empty.

He is at the bottom of the team’s choices at QB.

  61. Troy Says:

Inconsistent play is what caused this. Nothing more, nothing less. I’ve never seen a player that has driven me more nuts that JW. At times, the things he does on the field are spectacular. Then, I see some of the dumbest plays I’ve ever seen by a QB in a Bucs uniform. He’s the greatest and the worst, usually in the same game. In this league, you cannot win with that going on at the QB position.

  62. Buccernutter Says:

    Alan

I don’t think I can disagree with that but with our cap space and rising cap, we do have enough for everyone. Retaining our players is key. Not sure if we really need to draw too many other free agents with the way our d looked to end the season.

  63. Buccernutter Says:

    Cobraboy

You couldn’t be more wrong if you think he’s at the bottom of our options.

  64. Mister Negative Nancy Says:

It’s because you don’t win super bowls with high interception numbers.

No coach out there is preaching that it’s okay to have 50% more turnovers than the rest of the league as long as you get a lot of yards. None.

That Joe is surprised by this kinda surprises me.

And don’t say Brett Favre… in his 3 years as All Pro his highest interception rate was 3.1%. Winston’s was 4.8% this year and 3.7% last year.

  65. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

His toxicity is well documented, both on and off the field. Joe, don’t be disingenuous, because you know it too.

  66. DislocatedBucsFan Says:

I think he’s a bust as a QB1 but he’d be a decent back up. If he could come back at a #2 salary I’d be for it. Let him compete for it come fall. I’d rather not have him as a starter. I see him like I see the stock for ford. That dividend yield is gorgeous but unsustainable as shown by the price of the stock. If the performance of the stock falls to the point where it negates the dividend there is no sense in maintaining the stock within the portfolio. My money is better served elsewhere. Just as the bucs cap is better spent elsewhere unless it’s at a significant benefit to the franchise

  67. The Coroner Says:

Since 2015 he has had 22 more turnovers than another QB. Did it in college.
As a Jamies supporter give me Brad Johnson 2.0

  68. rrsrq Says:

  69. Isaac haggins Says:

Unfortunately it’s 12 totally inexplicable interceptions at least in the eyes of most !!!!
I don’t know if that is all true though ??? I know for a fact that other teams had an Astros advantage against the Buccaneers the first 6-10 plays of a game and also at crunch time !!! It seems Lefty has a penchant for doing II many of the same things early and late and you can’t do that with a qb that is told to trust the route !!! Winston needs to not trust the route and that my friends is the difference between Arians at point guard and Lefty and Clyde running point!! Winston received some great coaching last year but he followed some coaches that were tipping the hats BIG TIME early and late !!!

He’s worth about $20…….the $10 difference or even the $7 mil difference with the tag will buy another good player……we need the money…..

Let’s take a shot with a rookie…..save about $22 mil and spend it on other players.

    Finally, all is right again.

    Peace, out

  78. T REX Says:

Telling. All you winstonites…if he is so good then why can’t he get a job?

Come on…speak up. 5000 yards? No one cares except you losers.

  79. Gettinthebucs Says:

It’s so upsetting for me to think he’ll be gone and it’s virtually because we have a crappy ground game. Look at his college career. As rs freshman his team avg 200 yds a game rushing. Of course the defense was great. I think he had 40:10 td-int ratio. They win a title. Sophomore year they drop to 130 rushing a game and the picks go up. Dude still managed to get them to the playoff and a game away from being in the title game. The one year we ran the ball well he didn’t look too bad. We need to get a back that can make big plays. We need a center that can get more push in the run game. Rt is obviously in need of an upgrade. None of this matters though. Buddy boy is outta here. Watch him sign with the colts and make the playoffs. Screenshot it.

  80. Jonzey Says:

I will be over with the Bucs if they let Winston go and sign Brady or Rivers, they are in their 40’s. We need to sign him with a prove it deal

  81. SC Bucs Fan Says:

Jonzey last year was prove it for him. You expect different next season?

  82. SteveK Says:

Turnovers matter, and in this scenario turnovers determined the need for a new QB.

  83. bucsfaninoregon Says:

Famous Jameis has mutated into a toxic QB for this club. If he goes (I hope) the Bucs can add yet another to the long list of poor picks at the top of the draft. It is called the Culverhouse Curse.

After spending ~$400 to watch the Bucs on DTV, around game 5 or 6 I found myself to start rooting for the inevitable INT. AND IT CAME EVERY TIME!
When you know something bad is coming, and then it comes almost EVERY TIME, it is a big bummer.
You Florida based guys have to pay more then my $400 to watch them at home. How do you feel about urinating away your $$ to watch him blow up again? I doubt they will sell out one game this year without a different QB- -even if it’s Gabbert with Easton in waiting.

It is absolutely mind-blowing to Joe to think of a guy who led the NFC in touchdown passes and threw for an incredible 5,100 yards, who is just 26, won’t be able to find work.

Joe, no one ever said he wouldn’t be able to find work. What most reasonable people have said is that he’s not going to find work as a long term solution for a QB needy team. I’ve been saying it since 2018 that Jay-Miss’ career trajectory is the same as Ryan Fitzpatrick
    ——————–

I don’t think you know what the term “career trajectory’ means. Fitzpatrick started his career as a late round draft pick and rode the bench and got brief appearances and starts his first few years as he bounced from place to place. Then he got lucky and landed in Buffalo where he was thrust into the starting lineup and played well and was immediately rewarded with a big contract that he never came close to seeing the end of. He then kept getting rewarded contracts from team to team to be the guy, the second guy, but then became the guy…twice. Not too many guys follow that career path… Doug Flutie… kinda… Josh McCown a tiny bit… Steve DeBerg… definitely DeBerg… but not anywhere near the same path as Jameis who was named the starter after being drafted #1 overall and held onto the job for five seasons… whatever he does is irrelevant because that alone has no similarities to Fitzpatrick’s career path… or trajectory, as you stated.

  89. Bill Gootee Says:

I guess NFL people realize that yards don’t mean a damn thing and victories matter.

  90. Gettinthebucs Says:

Come on bucs go bold. Trade up and get wirfs or Becton. Find a new center somewhere in the draft. Vets can help him with line calls. Maybe make Ali do them from lg. Rbs are deep this year. You can probably get a guy like Akers in the 3rd round.

    It’s all about the money……STUPID!!!

Jameis & his handlers think he’s worth $30 million because he is “ballin’”…..

He’s worth about $20…….the $10 difference or even the $7 mil difference with the tag will buy another good player……we need the money…..

Let’s take a shot with a rookie…..save about $22 mil and spend it on other players.

If Jameis will play for $20….OK…..give him another shot….

GOOD POST!, even 20 mill would be generous. his prove it time was last year!

Joe,do you think Ryan Leaf was blessed with .10 cent head ??

  94. D-Rome Says:

Brandon, fair point and a poor choice of words on my part. My point is that Ryan Fitzpatrick has been a guy for many years that teams bring in to be a backup, a bridge-the-gap starting QB, or a guy a team brings in to “compete” with the starter. That is what Jameis has become. If you visit other fan sites and read other beat reporters articles there isn’t much out there in terms of another team or a fan base clamoring for Jameis to be a long term solution. I read one a few weeks ago where the Bears may be interested in bringing him in to “compete” with Trubisky. Just about every other team out there has a QB, plans to resign their QB, or has a plan to draft a QB. The Colts may be the exception. It appears they have a ton of cap room and questions about Jacoby Brissett.

  95. D-Rome Says:

Let’s take a shot with a rookie…..save about $22 mil and spend it on other players.

If Jameis will play for $20….OK…..give him another shot….

I think the Bucs need to move on from Jay-Miss and I would be OK with the Bucs doing what you are suggesting. The thing is, in reality the team would be trading in one unknown quantity for another. The team cannot bring back the players they actually want to bring back and bring back Jay-Miss at the average starting NFL QB salary. It’s not possible but if I had to pick my poison I agree that it’s best to save the money at the QB position and spend it shoring up the rest of the team. It’s not out of the question the team can find the right QB in the draft that can make plays and take care of the football. It’s something that Jay-Miss has **PROVEN** he can’t do.

  96. SteveK Says:

Happy my Bucs are putting their foot down and demanding improvement. Thank the lord the FSU Honks are getting their way and signing up for more losing football. But the garbage yards and points!!

How many win streaks in the first half of the season did JW have? One in five years we won two games in a row.

    Bye bye!

  97. Tampabuscsbro Says:

It’s really funny, all the nut huggers deluded themselves to thinking there would be a plethora of teams dying to make Winston their starter if they hit FA. There is none. Only way I see him starting is he gets put on the dolphins/bears and becomes the starter.

  98. Bucs Fan From Philly Says:

They are just trying to drive the price down. It is sad at what they will do to save money.

  99. Big O Says:

Last season the guy under center pretty much had no backup all year long he played that position all year with or without help he put it all out there and left it on the field. Time to part ways.

  100. BrianBucs Says:

Smart football fans that pay attention have known for quite some time that Winston is no more than a backup.

  101. TOM Says:

It was only a matter of time for some idiot to bring up the race card. Give me a break. Most people know that race has nothing to do with it. IMHO if the Bucs want to offer JW a 1 year contract it should not exceed 20 mil. Take it or leave it. Myself I would go in a different direction.

  107. Deez days Says:

Lol people saying sign a prove it deal!!! Lmao he’s had 5 years what is there to prove??? He is a INT machine

  108. Tom in Madtown Says:

  109. Dr.Not For Long Says:

Does anybody think Taysom Hill is a stud quarterback or is he just a flash in the pan he’s got NFL experience looking for a team. He is young healthy fast !

  110. Coburn Says:

Well to be fair to Ndog, Joe, and others who may be a Jameis supporter or even on the fence. It’s not that he isn’t better than any of the other 31 QBs around the league. Its that he may not be good enough to warrant the mins of money a second contract qb would make, there are other QBs that are close enough their team won’t give up on them yet, there are first contract QBs they will want to work with etc. He might be somewhere in the middle of the pack that could swing either way with his risk/reward. Just not someone you necessarily want to commit to or that any team would salivate over necessarily.

  111. T REX Says:

  112. Tye Says:

Over a month now I’ve been researching, digging, looking for any other team that wants JW…

So I have been saying it is looking more and more likely JW will either be a backup or ( if they are listening to their fan bases) JW might even be hanging out with Kap, Tebow, Manziel, also with the other FSU Manuel and Ponder out of the NFL!

  113. Tvan101 Says:

Look it is really simple, think of all the games jameis has won compared to the games he has lost. It is not close, you just know every damn time the bucs are driving with a chance to win jameis is gonna blow it. Just like we could have beat the 49ers on the final drive but winston throws a pick. It is time he took his deflating interceptions somewhere else.

  114. CPN Says:

Winston has 30 INTs though. It’s no surprise nobody else wants to risk their worth to sign America’s QB.

The more INTs a QB throws, the less likely the team can win football games. Not a hard concept to imagine.

Plenty of players like Bridgewater, and Rivers have better PFF grades than Winston. Dalton is only a few points below Winston.

Why are you surprised at this revelation, Joe?

    AFC South
    Jags…Minchu and Foles’ contract
    Colts…Brisset>Jamies in their eyes
    Texans…DeShaun Watson
Titans…Not signing JW after sitting Mariota

    AFC North
    Browns…Baker
    Steelers…Big Ben
    Ravens…Lamar

    AFC West
    KC…Mahomie
Denver…Lock/Flacco Elway doesn’t want another project
Raiders…Chuckie won’t release Carr for JW
    Chargers…Hmmmm

Soo realistically, perhaps 6 landing spots depending on what the other FA’s do…And luke warm at best. Wherever he lands, that organization will have to explain and then sell to their fan base why they’d take on JW and his baggage and history. That’s a tough sell many organizations don’t want to make…

  117. Nagurski Says:

Peter King has the best idea for Jameis and that is backup to 38 year old Rothlisberger. Studying Ben for a year, being in the Steeler orgainization, being the heir apparent at QB, this would give Jameis the best chance at future success. Low risk for Steelers, assuming a realistic contract is agreed to, with high reward.

    BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  119. Marine Buc Says:

I like the idea of Winston as a backup QB. If your team is down by 14 points put in Winston and just let him sling it like crazy. Who cares if he throws three picks when your already down 14.

  120. Ocala Says:

He may be right, but I highly doubt it. He like a lot of reporters exaggerate the truth to fit a narrative.

He has a history of making things up. Here is just one of many things Peter KIng made up(source NY Post):

King cited sources as saying “either 11 or 12” of the Patriots’ footballs during their 45-7 AFC Championship win over the Colts in 2015 were at least two pounds under the league’s prescribed pressure level. King was proven incorrect four months later, when the Wells Report, which determined it was “more probable than not” New England had purposefully altered the footballs against league rules, stated that just one of the 22 measurements taken on the 11 Patriots footballs showed two PSI under the permissible limit.

  121. mark2001 Says:

At least we don’t have to listen to the 30 million/ 5 year trippers anymore.

  122. Ken G Says:

Like another turnover prone overall No. 1 QB (Vinny!), he’ll have to go somewhere and compete for a job (Vinny started 6 games the year after he left Tampa Bay, but had his passer rating season and became the starter the following year).

He’ll get a shot — Chargers, Colts, Washington maybe — but for every myopic Bucs fan, commentator and writer who thought he was a franchise tag guy, this spring will be a reminder to look outside every now and again. The Bucs were the only franchise who would have picked him No.1, given him the job unchallenged for 5 years and built their lives around him. It was a fools errand then. It is proved now after leading the league in turnovers for last 5 years.

  123. Wesley Says:

It’s pretty simple Joe, you can’t trust him with the ball. Not sure why you find it so hard to believe.

  124. Buczilla Says:

    ROFL

“Joe is trying to come up with a more unreal, impossible-to-believe moment in sports, and Joe can’t.”

“The miracle on ice” and Bruce Jenner becoming a woman instantly sprang up in my mind. Don’t fret though, I wouldn’t bet against a team being dumb enough to give him a a big contract if we don’t franchise him. 😛

  125. ATrain Says:

God you are so dumb!! Stop looking at the stat sheet man!!! He loses you games dude!!! He messes up and throws the game away!! Most of his mistakes are at the most crucial point in the game! All you are seeing is yards, points, touchdowns… That is why you are not really good at picking winners!! I have played football all my life and there’s more to it than lighting up stat sheets… It’s a team game, a team chemistry and a team that doesn’t make mistakes when it counts the most… All Winston frikining does is make mistakes during critical monuments!!! He’s a loser man, he just loses!! It’s not all his fault but when they win it’s usually in spite of him and NEVER because of him

  128. Steve Says:

Joe, Most quarterbacks in the league can put up a lot of yards and touchdowns throwing to the talent on this Bucs team. However most of those guys would throw far fewer ints.

  129. Natron Says:

If Winston could have kept his his interception numbers down in the last five or six games he wouldn’t be in his current situation, and he simply COULD NOT DO IT……Time to move on

  132. SteveK Says:

    Rod,

Who do you see signing Jameis to a contract where he makes equal or more to his 5th year option of $20.9 million, and paying him as a starter?

  133. TexBuc Says:

I still have not heard anyone from the Bucs say Winston is done with us. Why NOT? Winston is a free agent why are the Bucs still refusing to say “goodbye ?” I hope some “fans” do not get their hopes up too high about Winston leaving.

  134. TexBuc Says:

Oh Taysom Hill is not young he is 30 yrs.

  135. SteveK Says:

Winston could be back? We will see. But at what price? And is there competition for starter?

  136. Rod Munch Says:

TexBuc – Yeah, amazing how that works. If the Bucs had no interest in Winston, then why wouldn’t they say that? It’s almost like the team is negotiating…

You know, sort of like how Arians said early in the offseason that he fixed everything except the turnovers with Winston, and that was a multi-year process in any case. He then said something along the lines of he didn’t want to praise him too much since that would be used against the team in negotiations.

Why would any team negotiate with a player they don’t want?

  137. SteveK Says:

Fallback option? That’s my guess. Not sure. The next couple weeks will be interesting.
