Will He? Can He?

February 29th, 2020

Future Tampa Bay transplants?

So now Bucs fans who claim they don’t like drama are going to be engulfed in drama for the next few weeks as Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians waits to see if free agent quarterback Tom Brady answers Arians’ love notes.

The Bucs claim it’s not that they don’t want Jameis Winston. You know, sort of like going to White Castle after a strong night of boozing and passing on the fish for the famous belly bombers. It’s not that you don’t like fish, but you’re not passing on the belly bombers, even though the buns are old and stale.

The Bucs, as a result of their very public shaming of Jameis in Indianapolis, have placed Jameis behind the Doggie Door and apparently are unaware that Jameis can just get up and walk away.

Don’t forget boys and girls: This quarterback hopscotch is a two-way street.

(Wouldn’t that be just like the Bucs, pine for every quarterback on people’s fantasy teams only to have them turn their noses up at the Bucs? And when they turn to an alienated Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, in desperation, partially to save face, he’s already signed with the Bears. Say hello to your 2020 Bucs starting quarterback, Blaine Gabbert! #ItsABucsLife).

At any rate, Bobby Carpenter, Dan Orlovsky and Jeff Darlington appeared on “Stay in Bed” yesterday, seen on BSPN, and debated Brady-to-the-Bucs.

Is Darlington, pride of Seminole High School, letting his Pinellas County roots show in this clip?

    Not happening…

  2. Clean House Says:

Jameis should give a presser today saying he has no interest in returning.

  3. TampaTown Says:

    Not. Going. To. Happen.
    Wake the f@#k up people

  4. Tye Says:

‘he’s already signed with the Bears.’

Still not finding any love for him over there or any other fan sites…
Shocking to me is I have come across several different sites saying that the Patriots are showing interest in (drum roll…… NO!,..ok)… It’s NOT Winston but Marcus Mariota..

Now SO many talk about the Patriots signing JW and winning… What if they actually sign MM and go on to win… Not really concerned with MM but people want to keep bringing up JW to Patriots here and it would just be funny to see the Patriots rather have MM.. JS

  5. BrianBucs Says:

I don’t see Tom Terrific leaving the Patriots.
HOWEVER, if he did, Bucs should sign him immediately.
Tampa hosts the Superbowl next season and Brady knows what it takes to get there.
Plus, it would generate some much needed excitement for the Bucs and their fan base.

  6. LaMarcus Says:

Gabbert is our current starter today. Is that correct?

  7. Joe Says:

Gabbert is our current starter today. Is that correct?

Just like Jameis, Gabbert is expected to be a free agent when the new league year begins in March. Yes, Joe has learned the Bucs plan to bring Gabbert back.

  8. BigHog Says:

This is madness…ya’ll have at it …give me Mr. 5,000, all day…every day!

  9. Tval Says:

Take your meds, Brian. Lmao!!! The only “much needed excitement” would be seeing Brady carted off the field in week 2. Hahahahahaaaaaa!!!!
Again…DELUSIONAL fanbase. Hes NOT PLAYING BEHIND THIS O-LINE…PERIOD!!! GET IT??? Its THAT bad.

  10. Tval Says:

The Colts and the Bears could win the lottery with Jameis.
CUTTING EDGE offensive minds in Nagy and Reich would both be an upgrade for Winston. None of this “air raid”, minus an o-line, NONSENSE!!! Bruce should worry about if he’ll even be able to get Mariota. Lmao!!!! He may retire before playing for Tampa. Hed be broken in a month. Lol!!!

  11. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

    We can’t have nice things.

  12. Tval Says:

@tye…it could be one guys decision. Being Belicheck IS the defense im not so sure he’d try to “strong arm” jameis over a more conservative Marcus if his o coordinator had a preference…and i have NO DOUBTS jameis is 10x the qb. That being said, its more about philosophy. The pats may find it hard to play the same type of ball, minus brady, and want to go a more conservative route to just solidify Bills legacy as a defensive genius. He may try to win one with the “anti-brady” at qb. It would ALSO show how the organization, from tennessee to new england, were just more organized and didnt depend, solely, on their quarterback to save them. Jameis isnt being paid to carry this team minus an o-line. Im sorry!

  13. Defense Rules Says:

    Nothing new here.

Brady is still 42 years old. Last season he completed 60.8% of his passes for a little over 4,000 yards in 613 passing attempts. Threw 24 TDs against 8 INTs & took 27 sacks. Pats record was 12-4 … with the #1 defense and a mid-tier running game (#18). Patriots showed decent BALANCE with their attack … 42% runs versus 58% pass. Brady’s Market Value is listed at $33.8 mil for 2020 by Spotrac.

Winston is still 26 years old. Last season he completed 60.7% of his passes for a little over 5,000 yards in 626 passing attempts. Threw 33 TDs against 30 INTs & took 47 sacks. Bucs record was 7-9 … with the #29 defense and a meh running game (#24). Bucs also showed poor BALANCE with their attack … 39% runs versus 61% pass. Winston’s Market Value is listed at $26.7 mil for 2020 by Spotrac.

Might be wrong, but I’m not seeing the ‘draw’ in a 42-year-old Brady (and especially not for AT LEAST $7-$10 mil MORE). Fix our defense, fix our run game, create a better BALANCE in our attack and THAT might result in a better Bucs record … AND a better Jameis. If not, bring on the competition.

  14. SteveK Says:

Jameis turns it over too much to be considered good. Let him go no worries. The turnovers are too damn high. Period. No playoffs ever with that many turnovers.

  15. SteveK Says:

Sport track can pay Jameis that kind of money. He’s not worth that to the Bucs.

  16. NOLES Says:

Defense Rules you bring up good points but I do see 22 less picks which correlates to a lot less points for the other team..

Our opponents scored 110 points off JW TO’s. That’s the difference

  17. SteveK Says:

More importantly, LaMarcus and Joe, a new starting QB would turn it over less than America’s Turnover Machine. Yards and points mean much less when the turnover rate is that bad.

  18. adam from ny Says:

omg if we don’t get brady we will go with gabbert as the starter for 1 mil a year, and groom a drafted first round rookie qb…

this way we sign all the defensive guys back

what if…we go with gabbert as starter…

    🙁

  19. SteveK Says:

    lol Gabbert isn’t starting.

And if Gabbert didn’t hurt himself last preseason, he’d have come off the bench for Jameis when he was turning it over like cray cray.

  20. Todd Says:

Honey, I’ll just put in the tip.

  21. adam from ny Says:

if jameis goes to the raiders, can you imagine gruden’s facial expressions when he throws a pick???…

every time jameis throws an int, the camera will auto-cut to gruden and his wild facial gestures…

then jameis will jog back to the sidelines and gruden will blow his top…

this would be a wild scene in vegas…toss in some gambling, booze and women and it will be the top soap opera in the nfl…

    fameis to the raiders !

  22. Sport Says:

You guys who constantly whine about our Oline are blinded. Brady would not hold onto the ball for 3+seconds!

Giselle recently said she ‘hopes too live somewhere nice’. That rules out New England. Plus they already packed up their sh!t and moved out.

On another note, did you see that mock draft where we trade picks for Matthew Stafford?

His situational football stats are damn good.

    In BA I Trust!

  23. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Signing all of the Dline back won’t be an issue either way, at least not financially. We have the third most cap space and the cap is going to jump to over 200 million with the new cba.

  24. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Sorry, Sport, but as much as I would love having Matthew Stafford, he’s not available, not even in trade. The Lions have made that more than clear.

It’s a good example of how the media creates stories for click bait.

  25. adam from ny Says:

stafford needs a fresh start…a new setting…just sayin”

  26. adam from ny Says:

to sign brady you’ll have to do 3 years 100 mil…

    all guaranteed…

    just do it

  27. adam from ny Says:

he’ll play for 2 and burn you on the 3rd…

    do it anyway

  28. WhatTheBuc Says:

The Pats line was awful last season. So this whole deal that Brady won’t play behind a bad line is a fallacy. Additionally, the bucs line is not bad like a few have claimed. They are a middle tier line that isn’t good at run blocking. 80 million dollars says that they will set out to improve the line as well. If Brady is available the bucs should at least kick the tires. The other free agent QBs aren’t signing until Brady signs so there’s no rush.

  29. Buc believer Says:

Adam… you mean the same Stafford that is hurt EVERY year???? LMAO 😂

  30. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Brady is just testing the market so the Pats know what to pay him. I don’t buy that he is actually going to be available.

All indications otherwise have been pure speculation.

  31. George Rauh Says:

He will be out on the FA market for a while. No gm is going to give Jameis a LONG term contract. As a GM would you give Jameis 165 million with 95 million guarantee.

  32. mickmah Says:

i think it is all a hoax. thé about he wants is Rothesburger.

  33. mickmah Says:

jamie’s signs with steelers and waive rothesburger.

  34. Jeagan1999 Says:

Jameis probably wants to test free agency, to see what his value is…..understandable.

The Bucs also probably want Jameis to test free agency, to show him his value (especially in this stacked FA QB year!) is nowhere near what he thinks it is.

Let’s face it, Jameis is at best the 5th or 6th best free agent QB likely to be looking for a deal this year!

This puts the Bucs front office clearly in the drivers seat, gives them plenty of options and the power of negotiating from a position of strength if they ultimately do decide to bring Winston back.

I still think they Bucs move on from Winston with a veteran FA QB and drafting a young guy (Did anyone see the QB combine sessions yesterday? Herbert, Hurts and Eason were all impressive!)

Jameis will certainly find work, but it won’t be for the $30+ mill a year number his agents were floating a few weeks ago, that’s for sure.

  35. DislocatedBucsFan Says:

Hurts is going to be a bust.

  36. JayMissEyes Says:

I’d give Brady 30+ million over Winston any day. And then mortgage the whole organization to go after Lawrence in next years draft. We haven’t had a great quarterback in Tampa EVER!!!! The chance to have the greatest quarterback possibility of all time come here would be a dream come true. If Winston could throw for 5000 yards With Evans and Godwin just imagine what Brady can do.

  37. Robert Says:

They’ll need to, and shoul, trade ME for cap room. It would be the smart move as he’s too expensive and Brady makes stars out of no name wr’s

  38. Jeagan1999 Says:

Dislocated BucsFan….I wouldn’t be so quick to dismiss Hurts. Unless you are a time traveler from the future, I find that it’s best to give people a chance to show what they are capable of….sometimes they surprise you. If you want an example, read the quotes below and see if you can guess who they were talking about…..

“I think he’s just very common,” a scout of one NFC team said.
“Doesn’t move around very well and his arm is just adequate.” said another scout. Another NFC scout was more blunt. “I don’t like him,” said the scout. “Smart guy. That’s it.”

That is what the majority of scouts and evaluators were saying about a kid from Michigan who went on to become a 6th round draft pick….and one the greatest QB’s of all time….Tom Brady’s!

I’m not saying Hurts is destined to follow in Brady’s shoes, but only that Hurts has all the physical tools to be a very good NFL QB.

He’s definitely worth considering in the 2-3 round range.

  39. Isaac haggins Says:

? What does Jason Licht have to do with any of this ??? AND that folks is WHY !!!
How can the owners of an NFL team have A GM that isn’t in charge of ANYTHING !!! There’s Your Sign !!!!
    COMICAL !!!!

  40. Howard Cosell Says:

Wouldn’t that be just like the Bucs, pine for every quarterback on people’s fantasy teams only to have them turn their noses up at the Bucs? And when they turn to an alienated Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, in desperation, partially to save face, he’s already signed with the Bears. Say hello to your 2020 Bucs starting quarterback, Blaine Gabbert! #ItsABucsLife

Yes exactly Joe. That is the blueprint for the Bucs modus operandi!
The commitment to failure is deeply engrained in the culture at 1bp!

  41. ATrain Says:

Hey JOE and you JAMIES LOVERS

PLEASE answer ONE question for me:

If Jamies is so Great, will win Super Bowls and is a future HOF QB. WHY is no other team screaming they want him?????? Only a mild reaction for a possibility of JW to Chicago. BUT NO OTHER TEAM IS TALKING ABOUT HIM

I hear about Brady, Carr, Bridgewater and evening Some about Cam
    Now even hear Mariota

BUT NOTHING ABOUT JAMIES EXCEPT HERE

    INTERESTING

  42. Troy Says:

I love how Joe is hoping that Winston walks. He thinks it’ll prove a point. LOL! What forever shall we do without our 30 pick machine behind center? Oh the anguish! LMAO! If you think for a second that the Bucs don’t have a plan if Winston takes a backup job with another team, you’re dreaming.

The only point that’ll be proven is that we’ll win plenty of games without the human turnover machine as our QB in 2020.

  43. Show me the TDs Says:

@Clean House…I wish. What’s the worst that could happen? We have a losing record and miss the playoffs? Oh, wait…

  44. Tye Says:

‘i have NO DOUBTS jameis is 10x the qb.’

Just saying it doesn’t look at this time that 31 other teams feel as you do..
Fan bases and rumors flooded with people wanting Carr, Mariota, even Bridgewater…
One would think if JW was a ‘good qb’ that is so hard to find, teams would be after his services far more than a teams backup QB, TB…

If anything, you can find fan bases cringing at the idea of Winston as their new QB!…

  45. Buc1987 Says:

    Blaine Gabbert’s the bridge…..

To where I have no idea!

    Go Bucs though…

  46. Buccaneerscotty Says:

Nobody else wants America’s turnover machine there is no gambling here unless he wants to be a backup for 7 million one a one year deal. Stay strong B.A.

  47. WestChap Says:

The only reason any sane person would want Jameis back is if one assumes his accuracy, decision making and turnovers will all improve significantly. His shortcomings are many fold and negatively impact others on the team… i.e. he does not make others better its the other way around (see Evans with Manziel). Its so much worse than any one stat like 30 INTs. How many more seasons do we have to endure this before we can all admit that he is never going to change more than a little around the edges here in Tampa. To have any chance he needs a total reboot in a new town and we need the same at QB. Its ok, everyone tried his best to make this work. Time to move on.

  48. Tye Says:

What will happen to the ‘Jameis fans’ IF his reputation is so soiled that no one signs him and he becomes the next Kaepernick?

He joins the list of cast offs:
    Colin Kaepernick
    Johnny Manzel
    Tim Tebow

All who had legends follow them and cry out their greatness yet no longer in the NFL…
Many of this fan base scoffed at the notion that Freeman would be out of the league in 2 years but he was out in 1… Some still today make excuses for Freeman as if he were some greatness the Bucs should have kept…

  49. tvan101 Says:

Winston might really leave and torpedo another franchises season? It can’t be true oh the joy. If we ended up having to start Gabbert then Trevor Lawrence is in sight.

  50. Crabby Fan Says:

    If……

You upgrade the trenches they will come ☎

Sprinkle in some complimentary RBs with competent scheming and you might just be a good football team.

    Go Bucs

  51. Joe Says:

WHY is no other team screaming they want him??????

    One word:

    “Tampering.”

  52. Crabby Fan Says:

    Joe

I, for one was surprised to hear BA state he would pick up the phone for Brady or even Rivers during the combine interviews.

I think that may be the first time I heard a coach do this. Is this your understanding also?

  53. SteveK Says:

Where are the reports of other teams having interest?

  54. SteveK Says:

Florio just posted on PFT that the Bucs are unlikely to
Franchise Winston, and acknowledging that there are “scant” reports or rumors of him being a desired FA target elsewhere.

  55. fernando diaz Says:

Peyton Manning and Jameis have the same stats the first 5yrs on the league.
    Look it up.
If they let him walk we go back 10 yrs

  56. Cobraboy Says:

    Joe Says:

    One word:

    “Tampering.”

Rumors aren’t “tampering”, and leaking rumors are how interest is gauged.

I have not heard one rumor of any team wanting Winston as their starting QB for big bucks, or even franchise bucks.

Have I missed those rumors? Where are they? What is the skinny?

  57. ATrain Says:

    Ummm JOE

    One word:

    “Tampering.”

Why are all the Other QBs being talked about?????

  58. Cobraboy Says:

    Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Brady is just testing the market so the Pats know what to pay him. I don’t buy that he is actually going to be available.

All indications otherwise have been pure speculation.

Brady has few weapons in NE, a source of complaint.

You don’t think a Tom Brady doesn’t look at the weapons in Tampa and think “Hmmmmm?”

About the only record Manning has over Brady is a Super Bowl win with two teams. You don’t think in the Brady-Manning competition that Tom Brady doesn’t see that and go “Hmmmmm?”

You don’t think Brady selling his castle in NE is a sign he might want to move on?

He very well may be a Patriot next year. At the same time Belichik is notorious for moving on from players he knows are past their prime and expensive.

Brady in Tampa is a fantasy, I admit. But I suspect this offseason will offer a few surprises.

  59. stpetebucsfan Says:

Brady is different. It’s far more than the age or skill comparisons…Brady’s intangibles are off the charts.

Brady is already the GOAT. The only thing he could do to put an incredible exclamation point on an already incredible career…take a team other than the Pats..for a coach other than Belicheat..to the SB. Now make that team the woeful Bucs…and become the first host city to actually play in their own SB…there are a LOT of historic possibilities if Brady views himself as larger than life.

  60. Joe Says:

Why are all the Other QBs being talked about?????

What is “talked about?” You mean Jameis’ agent is not like Drew Rosenhaus and talking to half the reporters at the combine as they walk past him in a hallway at the Indiana Convention Center? Or Tom Condon buying reporters Manhattans upstairs at St. Elmo’s? Or Jerry Jones holding court at Prime 47 at 11 p.m. after he’s thrown down five or six Johnny Walker Blues?

  61. ATrain Says:

Yes Joe that is what a Good Agent does
The more teams talk the more you are looked at the more you are worth
Why do you think those agents do that for their health or because they like to talk

Nooo so their client gets more money and they make more

Maybe the Fact is No one what’s to take the risk

    Blind Love is dangerous

GMC had that here too and we are Better without him

  62. WestChap Says:

Slow Saturday… just watched the condensed versions of 4 week 17 games involving QBs of interest. Based only on these games: Mahomes (just not fair), Brady (still very good), Ryan (how did the Falcons implode), Fitzpatrick (how annoying that he’s arguably as effective as Jameis for a fraction of the price), Dalton (plenty of zip for medium range with our targets), Jameis (3 missed FGs lost game but hard to forget that last pick 6 and very clear Perriman boosted JW’s game not the other way around), Rivers (uh oh, this is our bridge QB target?), Mayfield (yikes, I pity the Browns).

So, when Brady breaks our heart we should be angling for a trade with Cincy for Dalton? I’ve got to go lie down. 🙁

  63. The Man Says:

    Sign Jameis…….
    ……….. if we can’t get Tom Brady!!!….

  64. Howard Cosell Says:

Brady may be looking at the glaser retirement plan. It’s the best in the league! Ask JR Sweezy et al. Heck, Brady can come here, fake an injury and then bask in the sun for a couple of years…..maybe even return to the Pats after he’s well rested

  65. CPN Says:

I’d rather have Andy Dalton if we want to win games, and maybe just maybe make the playoffs.

But if Bucco gets Brady to sign on. I’ll buy a Brady Bucs jersey just to have itl.

  66. Cobraboy Says:

    Joe Says:

What is “talked about?” You mean Jameis’ agent is not like Drew Rosenhaus and talking to half the reporters at the combine as they walk past him in a hallway at the Indiana Convention Center? Or Tom Condon buying reporters Manhattans upstairs at St. Elmo’s? Or Jerry Jones holding court at Prime 47 at 11 p.m. after he’s thrown down five or six Johnny Walker Blues?

So zero names connecting Winston to any other team, something that cannot be said about every other FA QB in the league.

    Understood.

I would be surprised if any NFL team thinks highly enough of ATM to offer him anything but a back-up job. One may include TB in that list.

  67. Rod Munch Says:

Is there really anyone that thinks Brady is coming here? I mean, really guys?

With that said, if they could get him, I’d take it and I’m a huge Winston backer. Yes, after a couple of years we’ll regret it, but for a year or two the team would be a legit deep playoff contender.

Of course I think the team is already going to be a deep playoff contender and will got 11-5 next year if they don’t do anything stupid, like get rid of Winston. But if you can get Brady, that gives you perhaps two legit shots at a SB – and you get FAs coming and become relevant again. So yes, I’d take Brady, the all-time best QB in the history of the game. But that’s no slight on Winston.

With that said of course we’re not going to get him. When is the last time this team did anything big where they beat out everyone else in the NFL?

  68. adam from ny Says:

i heard our new helmet is going to just be a simple white helmet with a smiling picture of tom brady on both sides…

do you think tom can handle the tampa heat???

  69. Bucy Says:

It’s pretty simple, if your on the Bucs roster you are barley in the NFL. That’s why no one is excited by the prospect of landing FA aimless Winston except the XFL.

  70. itzok Says:

Why not. The reprter Jeff Darlingtion who is in Brady’s inner circle has said he doesn’t see Brady returning to the Pats and also said last week that the Bucs are definitely in consideration.

  71. unbelievable Says:

    Zero

    Chance

It’s amazing what BS people will believe
