Schein: Boot Your Quarterback
February 28th, 2020A popular sports TV and radio personality has had enough.
Enough of Jameis Winston.
Adam Schein, who can be heard weekdays on SiriusXM Maddog Radio and seen weeknights on CBS Sports Network, famously hollered the morning after the Bucs beat the Stinking Panthers on Thursday Night Football before a nationwide audience, “Why is Jameis Winston on my TV?”
Schein has concluded — after hearing Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht play 20 minutes of dodgeball while constantly looking skyward for divine guidance, and hearing Bucco Bruce Arians play Monte Hall — that Jameis is done in Tampa Bay.
And good for the Bucs, Schein wrote in a piece typed for NFL.com.
Every time Bruce Arians speaks, I become more convinced he simply loathes Winston and his knack for throwing passes to the other team. Thirty picks can do that to a coach. There’s no reason to bring Winston back. We’ve seen five years of this quarterback at the NFL level, and at this point, he is what he is: A naturally talented thrower whose wildly erratic play keeps both teams in every game. Jameis will never live up to the hype of being the No. 1 overall pick — a pick, by the way, that Arians didn’t make.
So, who else could work in Tampa going forward? Carr, Rivers and Teddy Bridgewater would each be a clear upgrade.
Is Philip Rivers an upgrade? To Joe, he is an old, immobile version of Jameis. Teddy Bridgewater? No knowledgeable football person Joe has heard or seen states Bridgewater can thrive in Arians’ offense.
Carr, to Joe, is the wild card here.
NFL insiders swear he’s on the outs with Chucky in Vegas. Raiders GM Mike Mayock sure spent a lot of time at the combine trying to convince people the Raiders think highly of Carr yet rumors continue to swirl that the Raiders and Chucky are courting Tom Brady.
It was very interesting to see how two different NFL franchises publicly handled the status of their embattled starting quarterbacks in very different ways, the Bucs and the Raiders.

Anyone that doesn’t throw as many picks is an upgrade. Hopefully Brady is the one.
February 28th, 2020 at 10:35 am
Watch. We are gonna end up with a random Qb from Missouri tech
February 28th, 2020 at 10:38 am
Finally somebody calling it for what it is.
February 28th, 2020 at 10:38 am
More should have listened to Mr. Adam Schein 5 years ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When he prophesied and predicted the truth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Adam Schein Eviscerates Bucs
February 13th, 2015
“I am mesmerized by this: A lot of people in the NFL believe that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the overall No. 1 pick in the NFL draft are taking Jameis Winston.
“Oh, good! Jameis Winston. You remember Jameis Winston? Jameis Winston: The underachieving, pathetic, rudderless Buccaneers are going to turn their lonely eyes to a person who was investigated for sexual assault. Who was suspended by the Florida State baseball team for stealing crab legs. Who was suspended by the football team – the football team! – for shouting obscenities on campus. Then he showed up to the game when he was suspended, on the sidelines – remember this? – in full uniform. Jimbo Fisher had to tell him – I mean, the whole thing, is an embarrassment.
“Flipped out in the college football playoff, started chewing out his coach. That’s the guy you want? The Bucs are in utter disarray. And you are going to turn your eyes, your attention to Jameis Winston? Let me say this again on the record: I think Jameis Winston on the field can play in the NFL. I think what Jameis Winston did in the fourth quarter of competitive football games in his career at Florida State was absolutely awesome. Tough, clutch, he can make every single throw.
“If you make Jameis Winston your overall No. 1 pick in the draft and you make him the CEO of your franchise, you should fold the team. You are basically saying you care more about buzz and getting all the tickets sold for every game. And we don’t give a damn about winning.
“And I don’t want to hear about Lovie is going to be good for Jameis Winston. ‘You know, cause Lovie is a good guy, the players love him.’ How’d that work out for Tampa Bay last year? Riddle me that.
“My goodness, Jameis Winston can’t be the guy. Jameis Winston is not someone you can trust. How is Jameis Winston going to practice and study film and prepare and walk into the Buccaneers huddle? Week One, hypothetically, I don’t know, on the road in New Orleans? How is he going to get ready for the Atlanta Falcons? The guy is immature. Give me one reason to believe why Jameis Winston is going to mature?
“So he will be the No. 1 overall pick? He will get all of this money? And then he is going to mature? Then he is going to get it? Wow. This stinks. This smells bad. My goodness! If the Buccaneers.”

Carr is my #1 choice….. and yes, even more than Brady.
February 28th, 2020 at 10:42 am
Glad to know what the beta males on tv think. Heck we have a few in the chat. Be careful what the clowns wish for. This team messes around and loses jameis with no proper backup but a rookie, ill be laughing at all you.
February 28th, 2020 at 10:46 am
BA used JW to get the job, told the world JW needs a run game and defense, got all his boys a job and then had JW toss all the passes and then trash him.
February 28th, 2020 at 10:50 am
Still wonder if Chucky will trade Carr for Winston. Maybe Chucky can fix him. And the Bucs will be a much better team with Carr.
February 28th, 2020 at 10:56 am
At this point Bucs should do whatever it takes to get Carr. Schein is right, JW should be long gone from the Bucs. Any reduction in ints and fumbles would be an instant upgrade. Another year with JW is another expensive year wasted!
February 28th, 2020 at 11:04 am
No Lamarcus,
BA genuinely thought he could fix the Soiled Messiah but then learned that he just isn’t that smart or coachable.
Bye bye MR5K
February 28th, 2020 at 11:09 am
I know a guy at jimmy johns who would be an upgrade
February 28th, 2020 at 11:09 am
“I think Jameis Winston on the field can play in the NFL. I think what Jameis Winston did in the fourth quarter of competitive football games in his career at Florida State was absolutely awesome. Tough, clutch, he can make every single throw.”
Thanks Realist!
February 28th, 2020 at 11:15 am
I personally think Carr or Dalton would be equally as effective with Arians. I love Herbert though. I would strongly consider trading up for him. He seems to me like he has everything.
February 28th, 2020 at 11:15 am
Carr surely would be welcomed by a vast population of the Bucs fan base..
Still young but a vet…seems more Coachable, an upgrade and if he pans out, will be our QB for many years.. maybe even the next decade!
February 28th, 2020 at 11:19 am
Bridgewater would be fine in this offense man!! This just shows how much you really don’t understand the fundamentals of the NFL!! You may know football in general but you should be writing for a high school or college team….. All of these QBs in the NFL can throw the ball down field!! All of them!! It may not be their preferred option but make no mistakes about it Bridgewater can fling it down field as well as anyone!! So could Brady, Rivers and all that…. It’s the decision of when to throw it down field that separates people like Bridgewater from Winston!!! Winston makes all the wrong decisions!! He made 30 bad decisions last year and that was waaaay more bad decisions than any other QB you have wrote about!!! Winston is not the answer man.. Just admit you were wrong about him and all the detractors who cited the fact he threw substantially more picks in his second year of college were right!!
February 28th, 2020 at 11:28 am
Carr, Brady or Winston. Enough said
February 28th, 2020 at 11:34 am
El Bucco, all of Schein’s criticism was about Jameis’ off-field behavior. He lauded his on-field performance. I mean, I can take or leave Jameis, but let’s keep it real!
February 28th, 2020 at 11:35 am
Finally someone who makes sense!
February 28th, 2020 at 11:41 am
Chucky loves you until he hates you. This was clear from his days in Tampa. Publicly, he sings you’re praises. Privately, he’s trying to replace you.
February 28th, 2020 at 11:44 am
This off-season sure has the feel how the Bucs handled the Gerald McCoy situation last off-season. If so, the talented yet somewhat self destructive Jameis is out of Tampa Bay…..probably needs a fresh start elsewhere anyways.
February 28th, 2020 at 11:46 am
Offer the Raiders a 5th round pick for Carr.
February 28th, 2020 at 11:47 am
Winston like another former number one pick to me. Jeff George. Great arm talent but could never turn it into becoming a great quarterback.
February 28th, 2020 at 11:54 am
Brate and a third-rounder for Carr.
But Gruden would never do anything to deal with the Bucs, his resentment runs that strong.
February 28th, 2020 at 11:59 am
Raider’s fans are not that excited about Carr –
Carr hasn’t authored a win over a playoff team since October of 2017. He has four wins in 31 games against playoff teams in his career. This season, he’s 0-5 against probable playoff teams…
February 28th, 2020 at 12:00 pm
When someone says to go get Rivers or Brady or even Bridgewater because they are clear upgrades to Winston… I stop listening because they don’t know the team or the players, they just know the names. Bucs offense predicated on throwing the ball down the field, then they name three guys that can’t throw the ball downfield with regularity or fit balls into tight windows.
February 28th, 2020 at 12:06 pm
Rivers had a down year, but it comes on the heels of many great ones. And it was his first w/o Antonio Gates. He would have many more weapons in Tampa.
Even so, Winston still threw 50% more interceptions than Rivers.
Any Chargers fan would say that getting a guy who threw 50% more picks than Rivers would be a downgrade. So the reverse is true that Rivers would still be an upgrade over Winston for Tampa.
February 28th, 2020 at 12:18 pm
Adam Schein is a Douche Canoe…. That is all.
February 28th, 2020 at 12:26 pm
I think anyone who doesn’t give games away would do well as the Bucs QB. Rivers would be in heaven with three quality receivers and a TE with soft hands.
We might even get two good years from him. That would give our drafted QB an unprecedented amount of time to develop.
February 28th, 2020 at 12:26 pm
Completely different situations….one is under contract one is not
February 28th, 2020 at 12:36 pm
just sayin…
“According to ESPN’s Jeff Darlington, those close to Brady are being told by the player himself that he’s going elsewhere. However, Darlington continued, those same people don’t necessarily believe that the Patriots won’t try to convince him to stay in a New England uniform.
“We need to wrap our minds around the fact that it is far more likely than not that Tom Brady will not be back with the Patriots,” Darlington said on the ESPN show “Get Up.” He continued by adding: “I am now at the point where I would be stunned if Tom Brady returns to the Patriots.”
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Brady’s agent, Don Yee, was meeting with teams this week at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana. Rapoport said that those teams include the Los Angeles Chargers, Las Vegas Raiders, and the Indianapolis Colts. CNN has reached out to Yee for comment but has not heard back.
While agents are not allowed to discuss free agents until March 16, Yee does have other clients, and he can talk to teams about their own players.”
February 28th, 2020 at 4:22 pm
Dalton or Rivers with a QB pick in the draft
February 28th, 2020 at 4:50 pm
Joe, stop the nonsense Teddy can’t play in BA’s offense. Arains corrected a reporter the other day saying my offense is like every other. It’s not all bombs away, he said we have receivers running routes on all three levels of the defense just like any other team. Any QB that makes it to the NFL level can throw the rock or they wouldn’t be in the league. So stop with this nonsense you have to have an arm like King Kong to run this show.
February 28th, 2020 at 5:53 pm
It’s not hard at all to upgrade from somebody that threw 30 interceptions and lost 6 fumbles. Plus had 9 – 11 balls dropped by the opponents defenses and has a 5 year losing record
February 28th, 2020 at 11:27 pm
Is anyone else concerned Arians is too short sided and making his decisions solely on him having 2 years left to coach. Winston is 26 and will be around much longer than Bruce. Do people realize that not even drew brees would of been successful with the team Jason Licht trotted our on the field? How can we give up on the production when Winston has never had a playoff worthy roster? Say what you want but he’s never had that
February 28th, 2020 at 11:29 pm
What season were the Bucs good enough but only their QB and QB alone held them back from a super bowl run?
February 29th, 2020 at 7:20 am
People in these comments insulting others and name calling because they have a different opinion make me sick.
…that being said, what you morinic JW nuthuggers fail to realize is that the Bucs W-L can’t get much worse and it’s sucked for the past 5 years with Jameis at the helm.
A change in QB is overdue and definitely worth a try.
February 29th, 2020 at 9:10 am
All things considered I also think Carr would be the best move. With Dalton being next.
February 29th, 2020 at 10:47 am
Show me the TDs,
“morinic”? — LMAO
Before you throw rocks at others, better make sure your own garbage is in order.
