“I’ve Probably Watched More Offensive Linemen Than I Have In Years”
February 26th, 2020Joe had a question for Bruce Arians yesterday about how he’s using his time.
It was a simple pre-draft inquiry at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
Where are you spending most of your time evaluating prospects, Coach?
“I’ve probably watched more offensive linemen than I have in years, you know, because, again, there’s a lot of good quality guys up and down: centers, guards, tackles,” Arians said. “I usually like watching skill players more. But I’ve spent a lot of time this year [on linemen].”
And there was no confusion during various chats with Arians and general manager Jason Licht. Alex Cappa has found a permanent home at right guard, Arians said, and neither Bucs honcho was committing to Demar Dotson at right tackle for 2020.
Licht was asked about the depth of the offensive tackle class and replied, “it’s probably better than it’s been in the last several years.”
Arians said there are “five or six tackles that are big time.”

Man I’d do backflips if we could get Becton. That boy this is the truth.

great news, beef up the trenches baby!!!!

I’d love a Oline pick with in the 1st ! That or DLine. maybe we find a deep threat WR in a late round

My heart would not be broken with a monster OT or DT @ #14,..

Becton has some serious tools to work with, but also some technique flaws in pass protect – which are glaring at times….As well as the weigh concern – going forward.
Can he get down to 340lb playing weight & stay there??? Or will he eat his way out of the league once he has some coin in his pocket???
(Have same worry with UGA RS-SO RT Isaiah Wilson, who may be available in the 2nd.)

I think we can still pick up a decent tackle in the second rd, if we are lucky enough to get Kinlaw.

It would be great to address the RT position in free agency. We just need a lot of money to do it.
And that’s the good news.
The NFLPA has forwarded the proposed CBA to the players, and a simple majority wins. That means in all likelihood, we’ll see a decision within 24 hours…possibly today.
The good news
• Rosters will increase by 2 on the regular roster and by 2 on the practice squad
• 17 game season will be implemented. That means season ticket holders will not get ripped by London games
• Preseason games will be reduced to 3 games
• Players get more money, which means the cap will go up. A lot. (might help us get Conklin)
The bad news
• No word on the top salaried player exemption
• Padded training camp practiced will be reduced from 28 to 16 (grrrrr)
• No more applying the Franchise tag AND the Transitional tag in the same year. Teams will have to choose only one or the other.

I think first rd, we should take best available lineman, and second rd take the best available lineman on the other side of the ball.

Any significance in the failure to mention any time looking at QB’s?
February 26th, 2020 at 10:59 am
We should be able to get a top OT / DT or edge in R1.
February 26th, 2020 at 11:01 am
Please God let this be true.
I mean it could mean he is looking at RD 2 also, but when he said 5 that are BIG TIME it makes me think #14.
Gotta have one of them.
February 26th, 2020 at 11:51 am
Brown, Kinlaw or any of the top 5 O Tackles
February 26th, 2020 at 12:31 pm
I believe they should be talking to the Eagles GM about trading back.
The Eagles are desperate for an elite receiver like Lamb, Jeudy or Ruggs.
One of those 6 stud OT’s will be there at #21. It would be great to have an extra 2nd round pick
February 26th, 2020 at 12:35 pm
Would not mind a combo of D-line and O-line with the first two rounds for the next regime to work with!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
February 26th, 2020 at 12:39 pm
@Catcard
Great point and I hadn’t thought about that. Some guys do have to worry about eating their way out of the league. Bekhton is a monster now but how will he age.

Rather than”Bucs honco” shouldn’t it actually read “Mike Honco?”

The Bucs desperately need a new RT that has the ability to move the pile in the run game.
As mediocre as the RB’s that Licht has brought in have been, the fact that the right side is a no man’s land for running the ball with Dotson has kept the team from having any semblance of balance on offense.
