Over at NFL.com, Chad Reuter decided to throw together a three-round mock draft. In the second round, Rueter has the Bucs selecting Ohio State running back J.K. Dobbins.
Frankly, Joe cannot imagine the Bucs getting Dobbins with the 45th overall pick. If Robbins lasts that long, that tells Joe he got pinched the night before with a pocketful of left-handed cigarettes.
If Dobbins is available at 40, Joe would hope Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht would trade up for him. Joe’s a big fan of Dobbins.

A lot of good options in the 2nd Round. Safety, OL, RB. Really just depends on what happens in free agency.

High draft picks should not be used on a RB or DB in this draft give Rojo and the young DBs time to develop, hell we’ve given Winston 5 years. Only exception I would say is S if J Evans has not fully recovered, otherwise bring in vets on lesser deals like the Andrew Adams of the world to fill out depth and add competition. In case you haven’t noticed we need a QB, D-Line and Oline help right now (this could change after free agency). Even if Suh and JPP are brought back a DL should be taken early. RDs 1-3 should be a combo of QB, OL & DL no particular order just depends who’s there

I’m a big fan of J.K. Dobbins also because he’d be an excellent complement to Rojo IMO. But I’d pick him in the 2nd Rnd only if we’d already fixed our OLine by that point, either via FA or in Rnd 1. Without the beasts in the trenches, it doesn’t matter who’s in the backfield; their chances of succeeding would be greatly diminished.
Would also love to see the Bucs draft A.J. Dillon, the RB/FB from Boston College (6′ & 245 lbs), in about the 4th or 5th Rnd. Lots of potential for use in our running game.

I would also love to see us sure up our trenches in the 1st 3 rounds and draft a receiving back and a bigger back later on and completely transform our team into a power running/play action team. Imagine if we doubled up on 2 big mean o linemen in the draft so we Can bring in a 6th linemen as a tight end and have a power running game. I like the high flying 400 passing yards a game but not at the expense of 3 turnovers. There’s nothing better than getting 4 yards on a 3rd and 1 when everyone in the stadium knows you’re going to run and they can’t do anything to stop it. Godwin is an elite blocking receiver and Howard is sat TE also. This team is 2 offensive linemen away from being a juggernaut!
Let’s keep this front seven in tact on the defense and start building youth on the offensive line this year and the dline next year. I like how the doubled up on corners last year and I expect the same this year on the offensive line.
I also expect another pass rusher who is looking for a big payday like Barrett to come sign here for a good price and light the world on fire. Todd Bowles is fun to play for, he’s making Tampa Bay a good place to come make a name for yourself.

I constantly hear this rule formulated in some fan’s imagination that in today’s style of football that it’s stupid to draft a RB in the first round. I believe you draft for need. Now that may be a QB, OT, DT choose your poison. The few of us that feel a running game has merit do so because of the player available and the position we are picking in the round. Think back over the years and see how many great RB’s you can name from Rd 1, in a minute, now name as many OT’s during the same time frame. IMO if top RB available take him.

If a top RB is there, you take ’em. Whether we “fix” the OL or not, a RB has to have the vision and instinct to hit the holes. Right now none of our RBs have demonstrated this.
The run-game is equally dependent on competent RBs.

Why so everyone can keep crying about the online? Rojo was getting really good chunks before he was replaced by third string rbs. Put him in the game and let him.learn how to pass block better. Draft trenches

Its simple. Don’t put the cart before the horse. Build a line that can run block 1st then worry about the RB. Personally I believe Rojo would be fine if he weren’t getting hit in the backfield every other play. It doesn’t matter who is back there if you can’t block.

I get what you guys are saying about OL and I don’t disagree. The holes aren’t always going to be there. You need a back that can create their own and/or break tackles. I’m OK with an upgrade at ANY position.

Dobbins is a stud. Every time I see him run to me he looks like a polished NFL back who happens to be in college. I think he will be the best back out of the gate.

Dobbins is the RB pick for me (if we end up taking one as we probably should). Even though he had a pretty solid second year, he was not happy with it so he went vegan and put on like 22 pounds of muscle then just destroyed when he was on the field this past season. He is a beast and doesn’t settle for good, he wants to be great, and changed everything to do it. That’s a level of dedication we could use.
You know…instead of like another particular player who after every game says “I gotta get better” in his presser, only then to not actually show any effort he’s gotten better and then claim “he’s ballin” after finishing the season with 6 picks in 2 games.

It would be a wasted pick. We could have a young Adrian Peterson and he would not be used enough in this offense.
We simply have bigger needs at this point.
Besides, Joe wanting a RB at the top of the draft has become tradition. Why change that? lol

Rojo is solid he had a lot of big runs called back this year. If we hit on a dominant lineman we may be talking about extending our pro bowl running back RJIII this time next year. No more free agent linemen, we’ve had very bad luck and if we have to pay another 9m+/yr salary to a linen we will be in salary cap hell next year. If we can come away with say Wirfs/Beckton/Willis and Jackson from USC and double up we’ll be in great shape having Cappa as our 6th man. Don’t be shocked if say that trio I just mentioned and Kinlaw are gone if we don’t trade back and grab extra picks and trade back up late in the 1st round And come away with 2 1st rounders. We need to stockpile cheap depth for all the big $ contracts we’re about to shell out.
I always liked what the Ravens have done. They always stockpile 3rd rounders and consistently have cheap depth and the frequently hit big on a solid player who is rotational in their system but leaves in free agency gets paid well and nets the Ravens a nice compensatory pick.

Dobbins scares me as a high draft pick. So much of his production seems to be the product of the scheme. I’m not football whiz or anything just my 2 pennies.

Your all forgetting unless we sign a FA QB who’s got more then 2 years left in him, or resign Jameis again, we’re going to need to draft a 1st, or 2nd round QB. We won’t have any clear draft picture until the QB position is taken care of.

Nosetackle- BA has more rushing TDs at quarterback than Michael Vick for VA Tect. so maybe Dobbins is better than you think.

If the Bucs are going to keep captain turnover they better make sure they’ll get production out of the run game with update like dobbins and o line because they only way too prevent Winston from 3-4 interceptions per game is to limit his throws. That is the key to Winston the only answer to solving that riddle of why he makes so many stupid decisions.

Antonio Gibson from Memphis is my favorite RB, 11 ypc 19 yards per reception, hes a WR/RB, low usage in college, also a great returner, hes also 6’1 223, hes a young David Johnson, YouTube him, he also has great vision and cuts like a smaller guy, 3rd round is his projected round

As usual I think a lot like you. I think a big mean RT in the first round would be terrific unless we eliminate that need with an FA. Given all your warnings about our cap…my desire to sign EVERY defensive player…I do not see how we can afford a major OT FA…probably need to draft one…then get the best RB available and hope a QB remains in the 3rd.
And hope that QB in the 3rd can be the next coming of Rusell Wilson or Dak Prescott. In fact Prescott went in the 4th round and yet he put up almost identical numbers as our top pick in the entire draft…except of course for the INTs.

The Bucs could trade down in the 1st round and grab either McKinney or Delpit. The safeties behind them are far behind.
Then they can have two picks in the 2nd round. Dobbins and then a QB, Fromm is preferable to me.

A QB Watch out for is Nate Stanley. Watch his USC game tape. He showed it all in that game, resiliency from an early blind side fumble and big throw the next play, a big arm, good touch and great deep ball accuracy. We need to use our compensatory pick for Kwon to move up and get this guy if we need to.
Craig, we really hope Justin Evans comes back strong and stays healthy this year and if he does we will have a helluva duo back there. I’ll pass on Delpit, he misses too many tackles and takes poor angles! If we have to go safety I say Antoine Winfield Jr. He’s a ball hawk and has NFL pedigree. He’s a little on the short end at 5’10 but has great instincts.
We’ve had success with small a school guys so I’m sure we’re looking at Safety Kyle Duggar who is expected to run in the 4.44-4.5 area at 6’ 215-220!
Guzzie – Gibson is a beastttt lol If we can get him and a big linemen we can really add an attitude to our offense that we’ve been missing since Alstott retired.
I trust our coaching staff we had a helluva draft last year, even our late draft picks contributed and I think we’re in for a surprise this year with how good Scotty Miller can really be.
We made a commitment to attitude when we drafted Vea over Derwin James
so let’s follow thru and get the All Behemoth Team.

Dobbins would be an absolute steal at our pick in the 2nd round.
My bet is that someone trades up to the back of the 1st to take him between 28-32. That way they can lock him up in that 5 yr deal.
