Jordan Love A “Perfect” Fit
February 22nd, 2020Former NFL cornerback and current NFL Network draft analyst Bucky Brooks must not think Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, is safe with Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians. Otherwise, why would he link a rookie quarterback likely to be drafted in the first round to the Bucs?
Brooks, in breaking down quarterbacks that may be good fits, both draft picks and free agents, thinks Utah State’s Jordan Love is “perfect” for Arians.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Bruce Arians is a bombs-away proponent with a scheme and team that could help Love maximize his talents as a gunslinger. Love would be encouraged to push the ball down the field to a talented group of pass catchers possessing size, speed and immense playmaking ability. With Mike Evans and Chris Godwin emerging as the NFL’s most explosive 1-2 punch at wide receiver, Love could quickly regain the form that made scouts salivate over his potential in 2018.
So let Joe get this straight: A quarterback from a two-bit conference who isn’t fully polished and had — in Brooks’ mind — a less-than-glowing senior season is one the Bucs should trust to run off Jameis.
Brooks thinks Love should lead the team right away? Is he serious?
Look, Joe wouldn’t mind the Bucs drafting Love — and grooming him behind Jameis ready to take Jameis’ place in 2021, if Jameis can’t get over the hump. (Or if Jameis does, then use Love as trade bait.) But why would any NFL team want to hand the keys of the franchise to a quarterback who a former NFL corner thinks wasn’t that good as a senior?
That absolutely makes no sense to Joe. That is, unless the team is rebuilding. Last Joe checked, the Bucs are not in rebuild mode.
Also, for the Tampa Bay chapter of the Teddy Bridgewater Fan Club (do these folks also own Louisville Cardinals and Minnesota Vikings jerseys?), Brooks doesn’t believe Bridgewater is a fit for Arians.
February 22nd, 2020 at 4:08 pm
Nothing makes sense to this Joe except Jameis and it is the strangest thing I have ever seen. Especially since this stubborn Joe has pushed so hard for other players only to be wrong time and again (Manziel).
February 22nd, 2020 at 4:16 pm
Hey TVan, Love looks like a clone of Josh Freeman. except Josh faces better competition at K State. You want to let go of the QB that led the Bucs to a top 3 offense with no running game to a turnover prone rookie who didn’t perform too well in his senior year at UTAH STATE! SMH!
February 22nd, 2020 at 4:32 pm
This kids release is as bad as leftwitches, long and developing, in this Arians offense he would have more turnovers than Jameis.
February 22nd, 2020 at 4:34 pm
I don’t love this QB Bucky does. If you take a QB in first round and keep Jameis on a one year deal it gives a rook a year to learn. If Jameis cuts INT in half and the Bucs then sign him long-term deal and he becomes the next MVP then your 1st round pick becomes valuable insurance or trade bait. But would it help to keep Jameis on a one year FT deal, get him a premier OL in draft a better runner that Barber?
February 22nd, 2020 at 4:40 pm
I’d rather take Jalen hurts in the 3rd over this guy
February 22nd, 2020 at 4:50 pm
Unless the Bucs are POSITIVE they’re moving on after 1 year, can’t make any sense out of using a 1st Rnd pick on a QB this year. We have several much bigger fish to fry, like OLine & DLine for starters.
Bucs draft SHOULD be OLine, DLine & RB in the Top-3 Rnds, depending on who falls to us when we pick. Look for the point where BPA and NEEDS intersect. After that it’d be nice to get another OLineman to develop, a WR (we still need a viable #3), maybe a LB (we’re getting thin there), and maybe a Safety (if we didn’t get one in FA, which we surely will), and/or another RB/FB (love big backs). Of course, a lot of who we draft depends on how well we do in FA, especially at re-signing our own.
February 22nd, 2020 at 4:51 pm
No way no how on Love. That would be another waste of a draft pick. We don’t need a journeyman QB
February 22nd, 2020 at 5:12 pm
@LongSeason
You actually think Jamoist will be an MVP???? Put down the pipe sir, you’re starting to hallucinate.
Only you and Joe are so blindly loyal to America’s turnover machine that no other QB is worthy.
He has no market outside of Tampa. Except as a low paid backup. He’ll be washing cars in a few years. #NoPlayoffs
February 22nd, 2020 at 5:16 pm
Winston needs to go!!! period ! end of story! Look how much money could be saved to use for other positions on the team. I believe any QB, rookie or not could do as good or better(30/30) the Winston. Unless Winston would play for 20 mil or less he needs to go!!!
February 22nd, 2020 at 5:16 pm
No way Bucs need another Josh Freeman. I’d prefer Derek Carr or Andy Dalton and let them duke it out with JayMiss.
February 22nd, 2020 at 5:20 pm
No way the Bucs can draft for the future. Jameis will throw another 50 total ints in 2020 & @2121 an Joe will still want him to be the QB! LOL
February 22nd, 2020 at 5:27 pm
If the Bucs move on from Winston, they’re pretty stupid, no
actually they are beneath worthless.
They should just sell the franchise.
Dude is #1 #1 #1 #1 passer in the NFL
We have the WORST running game. An empty hole of a secondary for years until recently- a constant freak show of kicking failure.
If these clowns try to pass their failure in management and game plan off on JW to cover their own behinds, they should all be relieved of their duties and we the fans should be relieved of thisincompetent sideshow we are forced fed.
P.S not taking away from their extreme hard work, dedication and skill, but Jameis Winston has much to do with the receivers successes.
PS why don’t you stop wasting our top level tight end TD leader coaches?
Pathetic passing of blame from two overrated drunks
February 22nd, 2020 at 5:28 pm
The Bucs have many options to build the team if they don’t pay Jameis more than $10mil. Which means he’s gone. Let him walk and keep that defense together. Build the rest through the draft. Trade Brate and get value there. Paying Jameis $25-30 million will set the team back another 5 years. It would be a colossal mistake to pay Jameis. Don’t do it. He will take down the entire staff and back to square 1.
February 22nd, 2020 at 5:28 pm
Oh poor Silly Joe….
Shouldn’t it read:
Mr. Excrement, America’s turnover machine and Pro Bowl ALTERNATE..JayMiss Wins-none?
I will say though, as badly as I want JayMiss gone I can see the logic in drafting a QB, (not in the 1st round) and tag JW for a year.
Short leash and ready to move on if and when he can’t protect the ball.
My dream is to have Carr but I don’t think Licht has the balls to do it.
Go Bucs!
Eff the Nuthuggers!

February 22nd, 2020 at 5:29 pm
The Saints could have had a better team and gone further if they weren’t paying Brees so much. Tom Brady was smart, took less and rings on top of rings. Quarterback greed is ruining the NFL.
February 22nd, 2020 at 5:32 pm
Owners have implemented a Salary Cap and there needs to be a wage scale for everyone and not just rookies. Take it or leave it. In the end it will mean better teams and better competition throughout the league.
February 22nd, 2020 at 5:35 pm
Dude’s numbers went down his last season because he was the ONLY returning starter in offense.
February 22nd, 2020 at 5:37 pm
How many yards, td passes or interceptions would Jameis have had last year if Bucs had a legitimate backup QB in place?
Would Arians have stayed with Jameis through some poor outings if there was another option?
Just wondering…
February 22nd, 2020 at 5:39 pm
Jordan Love = Future Bust
February 22nd, 2020 at 5:39 pm
@BigMacAttack
May as well ask the impossible. This players union is breaking the NFL.
February 22nd, 2020 at 5:42 pm
Seeing a LOT of love out there on other team sites for Derek Carr..
Yes, for Marcus Mariota…
Even for Teddy Bridgewater…
Still haven’t found 1 fan base that thinks JW is worth having…
If many Bucs fans are ‘delusional’ to think JW is a lousy QB, then why isn’t all the other teams with QB needs clambering for Jameis…
When the music stop and the musical chairs of QBs are done, ole Jameis just may be the 1 without a chair… No fear of him winning another team a SB if no other team even wants to start him…
February 22nd, 2020 at 5:43 pm
You ever notice how the “experts” always try to saddle the Bucs, with our first pick every pre draft, with a player who needs tons of time to develop, or has behavior problems? While all the other teams before and after our pick get more polished players. We must be a secret running joke in the NFL.
Send them greenhorns to the Bucs and like clockwork in four seasons they’ll release him into FA, and then we’ll grab them and finish developing them.
We must be an NFL farm team.
February 22nd, 2020 at 5:45 pm
I agree %100 with Tye !
February 22nd, 2020 at 5:52 pm
Jordan Love is not a first round talent. As long as Love is being compared to Jameis Winston teams will look to avoid him until after the first round.
February 22nd, 2020 at 5:54 pm
If Licht can pull another trade down scenario, where he gets the club a couple extra picks to drop from #14 to #18-24…Where the FO can get Love (or Eason) + picks in 3rd/4th…Sure, do that…But Love isn’t close to being ready for NFL game speed or DEF schemes…& needs to be on the shelf as Plan B…Not the immediate Plan A.
February 22nd, 2020 at 5:54 pm
Because of the fickle national media needing a scape goat and a target and click bait to stay relevant.

After the combine Love will zoom up the boards…as well as a few others…always happens
February 22nd, 2020 at 6:12 pm
Clean house,
We need a clean game from our QB. Not garbage yards and points marred with MORE turnovers than touchdowns.
Yards and points mean squadoosh if you’re giving up the booty via turnovers, pick 6’s, short fields, and less possessions.
For the total package, Jameis can take his turnover circus somewhere else.
Victories are entertaining.
Losing bc your QB throws it to both teams with proficiency is about as “entertaining” as a loud, wet fart. Maybe just a loud fart?
February 22nd, 2020 at 6:12 pm
Buc Bonzai, agreed. Greedy owners, greedy players and greedy sponsors.
February 22nd, 2020 at 6:14 pm
Love would be too much of a project for Arians to try to solve, especially when Jameis is project enough for the entire staff of Psychology Today.
My idea on the draft hasn’t changed much. Trade down in ! and get another 2nd round pick.
1)Delpit or McKinney to complete the backfield and define the defense.
2)QB, preferably Fromm and then a running back.
3)RT
4)O-line
5)O-line
6)O-line.
O-line guys are a crap shoot. There is no way to tell how their game translates into the NFL. Enough back ups are a necessity, though we have a couple now and one of them might end up as a starter.
February 22nd, 2020 at 6:18 pm
I’m just glad we’re talking about options other than 30mil,30int Jameis. So many affordable options, just have to find the best one.
February 22nd, 2020 at 6:24 pm
BigMacAttack,
Exactly my sentiments 💯
Jameis at 30’million is 15% of our cap. Hell no! Hisnturnovers make with worth about what he mad last year, though I’d say $18 + incentives.
If we pay him big money we are screwed.
February 22nd, 2020 at 6:54 pm
This just shows how little these football experts think of Winston.
And for good reason.

Look ahead.. this guy in round one?? Come on. If we move on, do it next year with Fields and Lawrence.
February 22nd, 2020 at 7:16 pm
SteveK, I just think it’s time to move on. Paying Jameis over $10-12mil may mean sacrifices on the defense. Many other options that are less costly than even that. I like how Belichick does it, take it or hit the road. QB and DE salaries are disproportionate, especially QB’s though. The sad thing is there is plenty enough cap to pay every player well and the top players big money, just not exorbitant money like they get now. It’s broken and getting worse.
February 22nd, 2020 at 7:18 pm
I’m 100% for drafting Lawrence in 2021’.
February 22nd, 2020 at 7:19 pm
I’d rather have Teddy for year at $7-8mil than Jameis. Admit the mistake and correct it now.
February 22nd, 2020 at 7:36 pm
BugMac,
Agree w you. I want to cut bait bc of turnovers and historical losing percentages. Turnovers aren’t going anywhere with Jameis. Dude has heart though, just not a winner for us.
I’d love to see $10 million and a draft pick dedicated to two new QBs. Keep the D and add Conklin if the price is right.
February 22nd, 2020 at 7:36 pm
Teddy wants $30M, as well…

Believing Teddy will accept a contract for 7-8 million…..priceless.

But he can’t jay-miss walk away, because then all the fans will ask why licht Wright is still the GM???? And why is stale biscuit here just to retire in a year!!!!! And why draft a new qb to fit ole stale biscuit’s when ole stale biscuit is leaving in a year or so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So the only solution, was sign “blameless” cheap, and sign free-agent in hope that the roster was finally good enough to “DRAG” jay-miss to meaningful games!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And when Jay-miss’s camp released that they wanted 30 million, ole stale biscuit was p!$$3[ !!!!!!!!!!!!! He was a new shade of purple!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So now ole stale biscuit sits in a “no win” situation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“This just shows how little these football experts think of Winston.
And for good reason.”
Just because you work for the NFL network doesn’t make you an “expert”. If Bucky Brooks was an expert he would have an NFL job.
Half these analysts who have opinions on Jameis barely even watch the Bucs play.
February 22nd, 2020 at 7:52 pm
Mariota will probably sign for 12 million plus or minus
February 22nd, 2020 at 7:56 pm
Most of the people in the media are gasbags who are wrong 80% of the time when it comes to actual football opinions.
The Bucs are in win now mode and we’re going to void a 1st round draft position in need (OL, DB, DL) for a Utah State quarterback with a strong arm?
Or we’re gonna sign 5 game Teddy?
Washed up Rivers?
Old Man Brady?
You people are insane
February 22nd, 2020 at 8:01 pm
Some of you act like the Bucs are in a total quarterback crisis and any name you can think of is an automatic upgrade.
Reminder….the Bucs last year had the NFLs #1 passing leader.
February 22nd, 2020 at 8:08 pm
Wow Teddy wants $30 mil too? He made $7m with Saints. He and Jameis can count telephone poles together. Ridiculous.
February 22nd, 2020 at 8:11 pm
$7m is backup QB money. Any potential starting NFL QB right now has his agent whispering in their ear if Mahomes is worth $40m then you are worth $30m.

I agree, last year some of the “experts” had us picking Jawaan Taylor with the 5th overall pick. He went in the 2nd Round.

Tbbucs3, I think Winston may improve especially with the lasik, but I’m a numbers guy and the numbers just don’t work, unless I’m missing something. I love money but seriously, who in here couldn’t live on $5mil/year. I’d rather make less, stack the team and win championships. The Patriots’ model works. The pay the few and screw the rest doesn’t. NFL players just aren’t that smart and team only counts when you leave money out of the equation. Idiots.
February 22nd, 2020 at 8:15 pm
Jameis market value is maybe a million or two than Mariota
February 22nd, 2020 at 8:16 pm
Not everyone has a wife that makes millions more a year.
February 22nd, 2020 at 8:50 pm
The moronity will keep increasing until Jameis is tagged or contracted. This is silly. Arians with another QB to have his first year in the offense, and a rookie, and a knucklehead at that? Bwaaaahahahahaha.
February 22nd, 2020 at 8:54 pm
The only scouts are out in full force in this article. Guys lose targets from the previous year and many other things can explain a drop in production. Can anyone explain why winston had almost 100 more passing attempts in year 2 of college yet total yards dropped as well as yards per attempts and interceptions increased plus touchdowns dropped from 40 to 25?
No one plays like they did in college after training with nfl coaches. I bet he’s better than Kyle Allen or gardner minshew. Winston will start 2020 but he will continue throwing interceptions at an alarming rate just like josh freeman did but everyone for some reason thought mike glennon was better a third round pick. I bet all these top QBs come in and throw fewer picks and play better.
February 22nd, 2020 at 8:57 pm
I’m not high on Love, myself. I know he is mobile, but he is far from a finished product, and I worry about his ability to read defenses. I would prefer Herbert or Eason. But my preferred scenario would be to work out a trade for Derek Carr….quick release, highly accurate, great touch on the ball and still not even in his prime yet! Working with Evans, Godwin and Howard he could be elite!
February 22nd, 2020 at 9:01 pm
Bring Back Jamies !!!!!
So JOE WILL OWE ME a Bucket O’ Beers… And I’m sorry you where tight ATrain
JUST like GMC who did nothing this year but collect a check
February 22nd, 2020 at 9:06 pm
All of you assuming will throw fewer picks in the second year of this offense where’s the evidence because last time I checked his name is winston not Carson palmer. Winston regressed every year in the last offense he was in and only played 16 games his first two years. Its nuts people thinking he cant be replaced by anybody.
At least the Jaguars were smart enough to draft a guy after signing a high priced free agent and they want the guy with the least bit of experience over there. Jordan love could absolutely be improved by this coaching staff. Every player comes in with weaknesses hes not a finished product for all those talking like tua, herbert and burrow wont have a learning curve and have to tweak their mechanics

Chargers ‘attached’ to Teddy Bridgewater in talks .
No teddy to Tampa.
February 22nd, 2020 at 10:08 pm
There are plenty of QB’s with physical talent what separates them at the NFL level is whats between the ears. Most QB’s coming out of college offenses rarely have to throw within a dirty pocket and what is a covered WR in college is open in the NFL. Confidence is required to make throws before the WR completes the route or in our offense before the WR and QB makes the correct read on the defense to determine how the route is finished.
In Winston we have what I believe is IMMATURITY which means he is still cock sure cocky which usually we all outgrow as we age.
February 22nd, 2020 at 10:48 pm
He is who he is. All the age means is he got an early head start. Now it is being used as an excuse. No more no less.
February 22nd, 2020 at 11:17 pm

February 23rd, 2020 at 7:22 am

February 23rd, 2020 at 7:39 am
We’re in a good spot in the draft and it feels like a big prospect will drop to us in the draft that we can either take or trade the pick away to pick up an extra pick. If Beckton, Kinlaw or Jedrick Willis are there we have to pull the trigger to solidify the line of scrimmage. We especially need an offensive tackle on a rookie deal, we’ve spent too much on our oline already, we can’t afford another 9m+/yr free agent.
Don’t forget about our extra 4th round compensatory pick for Kwon. I think we’re going to use that to be very aggressive.
We are loaded with weapons but don’t be surprised if we draft a WR because this class is absolutely overflowing with great WRs. We need a legit 6’2” 4.3 guy to really stretch the field if Perriman leaves.
February 23rd, 2020 at 7:41 am
To clarify I am aware Kinlaw is a DT, just saying he’s too good to pass up if he’s still there, even with our glaring need at RT. He is a more Athletic freakier Fletcher Cox. My only issue with him is his motor, he seems to give up if he doesn’t think he’ll be able to make a play.
February 23rd, 2020 at 7:49 am

February 23rd, 2020 at 9:37 am

February 23rd, 2020 at 9:41 am
Btw B Brooks is clearly trying to make a name for himself with some differentiation and I find most of it to be laughable . He clearly for me has the worst evaluation. eye of any of these draft gurus/ goons .
February 23rd, 2020 at 10:41 am
Most other fan sites on quarterback-needy teams have shown little interest in Jameis Winston. Teams that are quarterback needy like the Chargers, Bears, Dolphins, Bengals, Panthers and a few other are all looking to draft or sign one of the vets that has taken their teams into playoffs.
The fanbases are more interested in winning than in stats, which Winston leads the league in the good ones and the bad ones, but the one that means the most, between winning teams and losing teams, is turnover differential.
Bucs just should move on and find a coachable QB that can make the downfield throws that Arians likes but even more so can recognize coverages and not end or start games throwing pick-6’s.
The money part of salary cap management is in play here. Do the Bucs really want to continue to pay a quarterback that is in the 15-20th rankings, top 10 and less money? Why not spend on depth, linemen and running attack.
With Evans, Godwin and Howard, any medium quality quarterback will have good numbers but its more about game awareness which isn’t coachable with Jameis.

I agree, last year some of the “experts” had us picking Jawaan Taylor with the 5th overall pick. He went in the 2nd Round.
And Taylor was not even good as a 2nd round pick.
By the way, a huge amount of the “experts” that have been quoted on this site also thought that Kansas City reached on Patrick Mahomes. He had a good arm but bad footwork, mechanics, etc.
February 23rd, 2020 at 11:17 am
I could definitely see us drafting a QB in the early rounds, whether or not Jameis is the guy next year. If this is a relatively good year for FA QB’s, who would ever think that the following seasons would give us an opportunity to replace Jameis if he founders? In fact, with an increasingly incredulous fan base, it could be the very death of the franchise, if we put all our eggs in that basket.
February 23rd, 2020 at 12:14 pm
A key thing they should have mentioned in the article and the only reason (aside from whether they believe a new quarterback can win us a super bowl) is money related. If we have a rookie QB sans jameis you can sign a ton more guys and depth which helps. So that’s another angle that is probably the most relevant.

Exactly!!! I have been moderated for heckling “America’s Joe bucs fan”, since I get moderated for typing his name, but the main Joe, actually made the ira podcast good again now that he joins in. I feel like I am on a fan lobbying website. That we are deplorable if we can’t see that jameis is the greatest qb to come out or that will come out ever (since manziel). I bet this joe would love to have manziel as jameis backup. Screw winning, it’s the entertainment we want. At least the other joe looks at both sides and isn’t so condescending!!!

February 23rd, 2020 at 9:25 pm
using a quarterback like Jordan Love, allows you to buy Conklin and others in FA and keep JPP and Shaq and Suh and others. Keeping Jameis is not cheap. He is not worth it–rather spend Jameis’s money on these other players. I hope if they keep JW that Bucs would go to a powerback and O-line upgrades and run it more, throwing less–personally I can’t live through anymore multipick(more than 3)games.
February 24th, 2020 at 2:08 am
I’m fine drafting this kid in case Winston can’t become a legit franchise QB. Jameis is not worth the franchise tag but you gotta do what ya gotta do. If Jameis is worth 27 million then a guy like Russell Wilson is worth twice that much at least. Average to below average quarterbacks like Jimmy G, Goff, and potentially Jameis are messing up the salary cap. I blame the owners for being dumb enough to let QB salaries get wildly out of control. Quarterback salaries should not be counted against the cap at this point. I know it’s opening a “Pandora’s box” but I see no other solution other than the owners telling players no and that’s not going to happen.
February 24th, 2020 at 9:40 am
Don’t waste a pick on Love, who throws interceptions at too high a rate. I would wait to the third round and pick Jalen Hurts, who is elusive and picks up big yardage running the football and is accurate deep on his passes and has a low interception rate too. He could replace Jameis this year if Jameis throws too many interceptions or is hurt. So Franchise Jameis and sign a long contract with
Barret; then get the rest of our DL.
February 24th, 2020 at 10:51 am
I am convinced that we have the dumbest fan base in the league.
