Adam Schefter Talks Jameis & The Raiders

February 20th, 2020

Excellent insider chatter here.

Chucky spent many years working for BSPN on Monday Night Football, the NFL Draft, Pro Bowls, quarterback features and much more. And that means he worked a lot with BSPN’s super insider, Adam Schefter. So Schefter heard a stockpile of Chucky’s unfiltered opinions.

Yesterday, Schefter explained to The Rich Eisen Show why he considers the Raiders a contender for Jameis Winston, if he becomes a free agent next month.

“I always remember Jon Gruden being a big Jameis Winston fan from our production meetings with him back when he was with ESPN,” Schefter said. “And so you wonder, would they have any interest in Jameis Winston; that would seem to make sense to me based on the way he felt.”

Schefter characterized Jameis returning to the Bucs as “no slam dunk.”

Asked about Phillip Rivers to the Bucs? Schefter replied that Rivers and the Colts are a match from both directions and he expects both sides to try and work out a deal.

As for Tom Brady’s future, Schefter did not mention the Bucs. He said the Titans are a strong possibility in addition to the Raiders and New England. He said the Chargers will try for Brady but Schefter considers that destination for Brady to be very unlikely.

Chucky and the Jameis in Vegas. Now that would be entertainment!

Joe suspects Chucky would get an extra charge from the thought of winning with Team Glazer’s quarterback.

Every talking head has to have “scoops” during this time to stay relevant. A couple of them have real information, the others are guessing just like us.

  2. LordCornelius Says:

Winston or Carr or Bridgewater IMO

  3. tmaxcon Says:

free jameis…. no franchise gives up on players like the proud owners of the worst winning percentage in sports. instead of giving up on a talented 25 year young man address the entire franchises inability to develop anyone or anything other than career lsoers and basement titles champions. free goodwin and evans too… let the rest wallow in the basement for years to come. nothing would be more enjoyable than for gruden and winston to hoist a lombardi at the goat pasture formerly known as rayjay next season.

  4. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

I’d love to see Gruden erupt after a few pick 6’s week 1 versus the Bucs to open up the new Vegas stadium

  5. DoooshLaRue Says:

    _________

    OK?

  6. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Gruden has a history of paying too much in trades. Trade him Winston for Carr and a late pick. He’d bite…regardless of Mayock.

  7. ShepherdingTheVacuous Says:

^^^ think he meant to say “Winston and the Raiders/Chucky in Vegas”

  8. ShepherdingTheVacuous Says:

My spidey senses tell me that our owners have a plan to make a play, a substantial play….for Brady.

Will they deliberately make it attractive enough to where he can’t refuse it??..dunno. But I would.

  9. Pewter power Says:

Chucky and the Raiders in Vegas. Now that would be entertainment!
    ———–

Isn’t everyone saying he’s entertaining here? Entertaining wont equal wins. The raiders defense equals mike Smith’s defense under Dirk koetter so he’ll win there because they have chucky and a running back? Hahaha if he fails with chucky he’ll go the way of josh Freeman out the door with bucs passing records in hand but no stable home because of his unstable quarterbacking

  10. Ndog Says:

Like I said last week, knowing this franchise we will be the ones left standing at the end of this game of QB muscial chairs.

Then all the CLUELESS will be happy with the career 38 TDs passes of Teddy Bridgewater or the great Red Rifle.

You people are so unbelievably CLUELESS, but the real question is are the Bucs. Unfortunately history says they are…

  11. Ndog Says:

And seriously why would anyone want Brady here?

Last year he had the #1 defense in football, the #8 running game in football, the best coach in the history of football and outstanding kicker and he went out at home to the Titans….

So he’s going to come here and win?????

  12. Joe Says:

Jameis and Chucky would be the biggest thing to hit Vegas since Sinatra and Rickles worked the Sands!

  13. Jean Lafitte Says:

or wait Joe …how about the thought that we win with Team Grudens QB?
Why is it about Jameis first? Why isn’t it about the team first? It is about the team first. –Joe You’re more worried about one player and what we’ll lose rather than the team and what good they gain. Joe is not worried at all.–Joe

Winston for Carr straight up everyday of the week and twice on Sundays.

  14. Craig Says:

If you think Jameis is fragile now, give him a week or two of Chucky. It might be fun to see the QB who almost ran the Bucs completely down the rabbit hole to have to deal with that. Then the ghost of Elvis can play QB in Vegas.

I actually don’t care where Jameis ends up, as long as the team moves in a direction to give fans some hope of next season

  15. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

Gruden would meet Bugsy Siegel’s fate if he brought Jameis to Vegas

  16. ShepherdingTheVacuous Says:

Yes @Ndog he is. Brady would win here 1000%.

At minimum he would make us 10-6 in 2020.

Your stats are meaningless, anyone can manipulate or structure stats for or against any team in any year. Its easy to do.

Not arguing about it. Brady would win here 1000%.

  17. Defense Rules Says:

Since Sinatra & Rickles worked the Sands? I think NOT Joe. Jameis would last MAYBE 8 games with Chucky, if he was lucky. In case you hadn’t noticed, the Raiders gave up 419 points last year … and that was BJ (Before Jameis). With Jameis as their QB, I’m sure the Raiders could easily top 500 points … Allowed.

  18. Tvan101 Says:

As if Jameis could handle the pressure Chucky would put on him, might throw 50 interceptions.

  19. George Rauh Says:

Tag Jameis than trade him to the Raiders for Carr!!!! Problem solved

  20. Natron Says:

Yeah, I can picture the scene now, the Raiders in their new stadium in Las Vegas. Jameis Winston as their new starting QB. Flashback to Josh Freeman’s debut as starting QB in Minnesota. Gruden would never risk his sweet 10 million for 10 years contract on a moron like Winston

  21. jmarkbuc Says:

    Jameis with Chucky?

    Gruden would blow a gasket.

  22. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

Gruden would get a real charge out of somehow thinking he was sticking it to the Bucs again…much like he used the Bucs as leverage to sign the 10 year deal with his fanboy Davis.

  23. BrianBucs Says:

    This is really hilarious.
Gruden and Winston would drive each other crazy in about a month.

  24. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

As cool as Jameis would look in a Raiders uniform, I would not wish that relationship on either he OR Gruden. I want them both to succeed, and I don’t know that it could ever be together, lol.

Nice logic there. Just cause I said so is very impressive.

    👍

I just wonder if the Rams fans said the same thing about Broadway Joe or the Chargers did about Johnny U or the Cardinals did about Emmitt Smith.

    But but but just cause….

  26. ShepherdingTheVacuous Says:

Yep. Just cause. Cause…I said so, actually.

You seem to have an acceptance problem @Ndog…

It is after all, in the 7 stages of grief…

  27. Mr. Reality Says:

Don’t think Gurden would tolerate (long) Winston’s bad decision making, and I don’t think anyone can fix Winston. But I’d love for Gruden to give him a chance because that would mean Winston is gone from here. And yes, I am very careful what I wish for.

  28. Mr. Reality Says:

^^^And no, Gruden is stubborn but he’s not stupid. Winston to back up Teddy in IND.

  29. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Shepherd you seem to forget that if the Bucs had a kicker as good as the Pats and the help of the refs the Bucs would have been 10-6 this year. Giants, Falcons loss was on the kicker, and the Titans loss was on the refs blowing a fumble dead and erasing a defensive TD.

  30. Adrnagy Says:

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reportedly considered signing Jameis Winston to a two-year contract with a team option in the second year.

According to ESPN’s Jenna Laine, such a deal would likely pay Winston $27 million per season, which is about the same as the franchise tag for quarterbacks. Only the first year would be guaranteed.

  31. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

And don’t give me that BS that Winston has a chance at the end to win it. If your kicker is going to miss 3 field goals in a game your going to lose. Jameis drove them into scoring positions 3 times and the kicker left 9 points off the board.

My spidey senses tell me that our owners have a plan to make a play, a substantial play….for Brady.

give one good reason why the greatest of all time with his opportunity to go where he wants to go would choose a small market franchise with the worst winning percentage in sports….. do you people actually think before typing… brady is not coming to tampa he will either be a raider or patriot…. no one chooses tampa if they have options and every nfl option is better than a glazer owned circus.

  33. ShepherdingTheVacuous Says:

    @TDheadache…

I didn’t “forget” anything. Don’t impute your completely erroneous infetences drawn on me fool.

The 2019 record for this team, and the 2020 team record with future roster construction yet to come, have nothing to do with one another, just like with any team. Btw…all factors led to the 7-9 record last year. No can “if this, but not that” foolish stuff into a different record.

ALL…I was saying was, before your foolish false inferences drawn, that for 2020 with Brady added into the fold, 10-6 would be a realistically probable W/L record, all factors included. Which would be more than sufficient for a good playoff run.

  34. ShepherdingTheVacuous Says:

*No one can…if this but not that..junk.

  35. gotbbucs Says:

Was the Gruden love before or after Winston attempted to submarine half of the Bucs games in the first quarter in the 2019 season?
I know Gruden loves to collect QB’s, but I dont see him or any other sane head coach, falling all over themselves to sign Winston long term this offseason. His best bet if the Bucs don’t want him is to find a team desperate enough to put him on the field on a one or two year deal and try to prove that he isnt going to throw two interceptions every game.

Honestly, his best landing spot might be somewhere like Pittsburgh where Big Ben maybe only has one or two years left.

  36. tmaxcon Says:

brady picking the bucs is like him going from a super model to a crackhead…. he is not going to lower his standards or risk his reputation by coming to tampa.

  37. BucsFan81 Says:

Gruden can have Winston just give us Derek Carr. We will even throw in some crab legs to sweeten the deal.

  38. lewis Says:

Say what u want but offensively the bucs have more talent for Brady and a defense on the rise

  39. lewis Says:

Bottom line is bucs have to sign the defensive players first in my opinion

I didn’t come here to rebuild.

Another day no news on Winston and more distraught “fans”…….LOL

  43. miken Says:

Silly… name one qb Gruden didn’t love durring his qb camp? If Gruden loved him after seeing him for a few years, he would of taken the job. Gruden loves them all, till he doesn’t

  44. Bob in Valrico Says:

    TDTB
Its not BS. The Int was an epic fail on Jameis part in the Giants game, And how many points did Jameis leave off the board. The INT at the 30 and 3 other drives
and he scored nothing. Thats 0 for 4 in my book.Thats what a franchise QB is supposed to do, score with the game on the line.. Could be one reason why he only has a66 5 QB rating in the fourth quarter and around 63 % when we were behind by 7.

    SPOT ON!!!!

  46. Will Says:

Winston has said he wants to be coached hard. Which is exactly what Gruden would do. I’d like to see Jameis here on the tag or team friendly 2-3yr deal with the defense we had at the end of the season, his 2 starting receivers and a run game. If he $hits the bed then maybe we’re in a good spot to get Trevor Lawrence in next year’s draft.

  47. OneBuc55 Says:

Alot of you guys on here really show everyday how little you know about football…

Teddy Bridgewater in a Bruce Arians offense were historically QB’s get creamed…Teddy has a pretty fragile build and has proven he over and over again that he cannot be relied on to stay healthy as the starting QB…

Guys on here talking about their “Spidey senses” is telling them this and that…smh, literally just throwing b@#*$#@t against the wall to see if it sticks…It’s really sad, but hilarious to read…

  48. Alanbucsfan Says:

Cut his picks to 20 and Jameis could accomplish Rex Grossman status

  49. catcard202 Says:

Will is on target…but if Trevor Lawrence is the goal…better start trading assets now to build up the draft capitol to move up & get him.

(You start the TANK JOB before the 2020 season if you want to make sure you get the QB you want in 2021! You start by trading for LAR RB Gurley + LAR 2021 1st Rd pick – to give them the out they desire & to take the cap hit thru 2021 & $4.2M to cut bait before 2022…But it’s only about getting the pick! Then you deal Marpet / D.Smith / Evans / Godwin…Basically any asset needed to build MIA 2020 like draft capitol for TB in 2021.)

But that will not happen w/ Licht, BA & Staff all in “win now or else” mode. If 2020 goes south, as 2019 did…BA is a short-timer before he re-retires. Bowles will get another gig in 2021 & Leftwich / Licht would follow both out the door.

  50. Ocala Says:

I am confident Jamies and Gruden would be a great match. If that happens and there is a prop bet on who has the better record in 2020 the Bucs or the Raiders then I would put a lot of money on the Raiders.

  51. Bucsfanman Says:

Jameis in Vegas?! A gambler’s wet dream!!!
It ain’t going to happen but, what if?

  52. Nick2 Says:

Gruden had the choice between the Raiders and Carr or the Bucs and Winston and we know how that ended.

  53. stpetebucsfan Says:

Here is my fondest wish as a true Buc’s fan. None of it’s personal with me.

It’s the NFL and things can sometimes move slowly. There is not enough inertia…yet…to move JW.

So BA/Licht get JW for as little as possible…draft a true QB prospect and make sure JW understands that his #1 spot is no longer guaranteed but must be earned!

  54. Buc1987 Says:

The crab legs jokes are so old and tired…

  55. JimbobBucsFan Says:

Could we Franchise or Transition tag Jameis Winston and engineer a simple swap for Carson Palmer?

Would Bucco Bruce go for it? Would Chucky?

  56. JimbobBucsFan Says:

Since the Raiders’ owner saw fit to give Chucky an outrageous pile of money to take charge and oversee the move to Las Vegas, I see no reason that Jon would not be allowed to pay a Saudi Arabian king’s ransom to obtain Brady.

  57. JimbobBucsFan Says:

Notice that I substituted the name Carson Palmer for Derek Carr in the preceding comment?

  58. JimmyJack Says:

Simple decision for the Bucs. Cut the bull they either want Winston or they don’t. If they want him he will be a Buc. Simple as that. If they don’t he won’t and they are not short on options.

Gruden(or somebody else) only gets Winston if we don’t want him. It’s really all that simple.

  59. Bob in Valrico Says:

Gruden will not have Ba’s patience for turnovers .He bascaly put on Alstott on ice for his fumbles trying to get extra yards. Gruden was so egotistical, that Alsott would run for 40 yards , the crowd would chant for him .Then Gruden wsould park him on the bench.

  60. Jmarkbuc Says:

    87

    And the int’s and pick 6’s too…,

  61. Buc believer Says:

That would be SO Buc like to have Jameis go to the Raiders and win multiple Super Bowls with the only coach who won a Super Bowl with Tampa! You just couldn’t write a better script.

  62. Wesley Says:

    Take him.

  63. Cobraboy Says:

    Tom Terrific in Nashville?

    WTF?

  64. Buczilla Says:

I like Jameis and I want him to succeed, but there is no way in hell that Gruden would put up with his buffoonery. Brady is more likely to come here with Gisele as the head cheerleader before Jameis/Chucky happen. Schefter is blowing smoke out of his butt. Gotta love the off-season! At least it was good for a laugh. 🤭

  65. Rod Munch Says:

As Sapp said, if Winston was the QB for this team in the glory days, they’d have won a lot more than one Super Bowl.

  66. TRAGEDY G CANNON Says:

Just remember every qb left the bucs was a better qb and had a better record and was on a winning team so bucs resign the man help him with a top running back and a new left tackle and get a safety and keep your DL and get some good secondary for The OF and DF and rotation will help the team alot this how you just go back to the basic its not all jw fault no matter who you get if these things not meet the qb will still suck because of the lack of help in the backfield and OL and rotation

  67. Mister Negative Nancy Says:

Joe I appreciate you listening to these shows and summarizing for us. Saves me a lot of time, thank you!

  68. TOM Says:

I’ve been saying all along. Winsnone for Carr straight up. Change of scenery would help both.

  69. Iamabuc Says:

    Natron
Josh Freeman debuted for the Bucs in London.

  70. unbelievable Says:

He used to love Jameis, but Chucky hates turnovers even more than most coaches.

    That ain’t gonna happen
