Jaws Talks “Mind-Boggling” Jameis

After 15 seasons as an NFL quarterback, years calling Bucs preseason games and what felt like forever analyzing quarterbacks for BSPN, Ron “Jaws” Jaworski knows a thing or two about QBs.
Yesterday, he was talking about America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston.
Jaworski, like a majority of Jameis observers, is in full head-scratch mode after watching Jameis make 70 NFL starts.
“I still believe Jameis Winston is a great talent. His inconsistency is mind-boggling. I mean, you know, he could look like the greatest quarterback of all-time and the next quarter you wonder who that guy is,” Jaworski told WDAE radio.
“And his starts some games have been just awful. … But I still see the talent there. I still have great respect for Bruce Arians and Tom Moore of refining that position.”
Jaws went on to say he thinks Arians will keep his options open and likely be tempted by some of the veteran quarterback names expected to hit the free agency market.
While nearly completely unrealistic given Jameis’ ego and potential salary, Jaws seemed to think the Bucs might sign an old, veteran QB and still keep Jameis to learn from the guy.

Sometimes Winston plays like Tarzan, sometimes he plays like Jane.
Just can’t win with that kind of inconsistent play.

Jameis Winston is truly an enigma. Defies all of the conventional wisdom in the NFL.

We already have a pretty good offense. Whether that be with Winston or someone else, I will be a Buc’s fan.
I see the key this offseason as retaining much of the same defense that we had last year. They played well in our system.
Then we just need whoever plays quarterback to cut down on the STUPID turnovers.
I want to get better at all of our positions. Running the ball better would be great but as the last 5 years of playoff’s has shown us – there are many ways to win in this league.
Be the best version of your own team. Cut down on the turnovers and penalties. I believe that B.A. can be that guy to lead us to the promised land with whatever quarterback he chooses.

Jaw dropping? If only the dang defenders would be “dropping” more passes Winston throws right in their hands, he wouldn’t have so many freaking INTs.

Bring in Rivers, or Dalton for a two year deal at half of what Jameis wants. Trade back into first round for a QB, like Eason, or Love to sit for a year, and S can Winston!!

I have long established myself as being a Jameis fan, and I am going to root for him even if he is not here any longer. I would love to see him get a 2nd year under Bruce. I think it could be HUGE.
But, gotta call a spade a spade.
If there is ANY chance that Tom Brady wants to be here, with these weapons, and this coaching staff….

I am 90% sure that Jameis was still on his Rookie Contract when Fitz was here, so it was very much affordable, cap-wise.
That has all changed, now, and will change even more if we keep JW with a bigger contract. We can’t really afford 2 vets that are capable of starting.

I see a trend continuing on this site.
Mention another quarterback and there comes out a list of posters suggesting why that quarterback would not work in Tampa.
Apparently everyone on these sites have watched a majority of the snaps of these other quarterbacks these last couple of years.
I accept opinions on Winston naturally because I assume the fans on this site have watched Winston a ton.
What percentage of snaps are you guys watching of these opposing quarterbacks?
Without watching game film of these quarterbacks AND understanding those teams offenses, how much of an expert are any of us.
It is OK to have an opinion on whether Brady, Rivers or anyone else will work, but to call someone else an idiot for their opinion that Brady or Rivers could work here seems more likely your own ignorance?

^^ That is a really fair point, geno711, and extremely well said. — It ticks us off, right, when fans of other markets think they know everything there is to know about Jameis, for better or worse. — NO ONE knows better than us.
You make a great point that it is not even possible that any of us has that type of insight into Rivers (or others) to have seen every game and every throw. Therefore, really silly to be so critical of others’ opinions.

I’m not against competition, but I also believe you are giving up on Gay too soon. It was his rookie year. How he responds to his faults will determine if he should go or not.

Any QB good enough for Jameis to learn from after 5 years of not learning…..would cost too much and should be starting.
I’m OK with a transition or franchise tag for Jameis……but stop with this blaming coaches for his downsides…

Any other QB cannot be matched with Jameis because he becomes toxic. That thing in his psyche that boggles others minds takes over and he gets worse.
It is almost like Jameis tries to forget how to play football as often as possible. The starts of all of his seasons certainly look like rookie deja vu.
He digs a hole at the beginning of the season and the team never recovers.
I am resigned to Jameis being franchised and back next season. It will not be pretty because he screwed his 100 million Bucs contract and will have an even worse attitude. BA needs to draft a QB he has faith in and insert him into the game early enough to do some good. That would be his road to a Super Bowl, Jameis isn’t.

i do not think jameis’ ego will let him play behind a vet qb on what he perceives to be his team, i say this because after his last game performance of the regular season and his post game presser, where he was rolling his eyes, being defensive with his comments, i’m balling come on man, let him walk go all in for brady which will sell tix get us some very needed exposure, and maybe the team would come together and win some damn football games, with a legend leading them, draft eason, then go fill holes where you can

Talent, potential, stats…
He’s still going to bobble a snap or handoff, get intentional grounding penalty, get sacked at worst time, force interceptions, and barely lose more than he wins-
And it will be the same story- If only this, if only that ….
