Chris Myers: Tom Brady Fits In Tampa; Jameis Might Be Better Off Relocating
January 29th, 2020The longtime voice of Buccaneers preseason football, and a guy who called Bucs games this season for FOX, has weighed in on America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston.
Good guy Chris Myers is an astute observer of all things Bucs, and a man who sits in with Tampa Bay officials on those revealing TV production meetings.
Myers chatted on SiriusXM NFL Radio yesterday and was asked about what he thinks of Jameis’ future in Tampa.
“I think, and I hate to say this, he might be better off going somewhere else,” Myers said of Jameis.
“He’s a good guy. He tries hard. I think there’s a perception out there that he’s a bad guy; he’s not. I just don’t know how good a quarterback he is. Troy Aikman always talks to me about a quarterback having accuracy … and that’s one of the things that I see lacking, and just the mentality of that position. Knowing we’re up by this score, we’re down by this score, I gotta protect the ball; the priorities in the moment.”
Myers went on to say he could see Tom Brady being attracted to Tampa by the team’s stud receivers and freedom under Bruce Arians.
Myers also senses the positive jolt Brady would bring the franchise. “The Buccaneers could use an infusion like that,” Myers said.
January 29th, 2020 at 11:08 am
It’s Brady time in Tampa!!! Bring him on. I’d love it.
January 29th, 2020 at 11:16 am
Would it be like Montana to the chiefs? Draft a QB to learn and let Brady take us to the playoffs as a one year bridge? Interesting… unless Bruce retires again.
January 29th, 2020 at 11:17 am
Brady has always had an Outstanding O line. ALWAYS. I guarantee all of you here in Tampa he goes down and gets sacked repeatedly. The guys a statue with no mobility left. He’ll be on the injured list in less than 6 games here in Tampa. I’d go with Bridges if we don’t want Jameis. But I’d ride with Jameis one more year.
January 29th, 2020 at 11:19 am
Mike Johnson- Is Bridges Bridgewater? Thank you.
January 29th, 2020 at 11:19 am
Brady gets rid of the ball quickly
We’d be lucky as hell to have him be our QB.
We would be back to winning.
January 29th, 2020 at 11:20 am
You can call him America’s QB…Mr. Excitement… but he really plays like Jameis wINTston to me.
January 29th, 2020 at 11:26 am
Listen to this @Mike Johnson guy!?? And where’s that fool @DR at right about now..with informed feedback such as from Myers above.
@SteveK has his head screwed on straight! As does Myers above. Like I had been saying the other day about Brady here. Just wait till @DR chimes in with his bloated, pointless, stats-are-for-losers junk. No doubt it’s coming.
Brady plugs right in, the match with BA and the weapons would be ideal. THIS ALL ASSUMES…that Giselle isn’t insisting on LA for work for her, and the family needing to be out there. Otherwise, Glazers themselves would need to reach out big time.
January 29th, 2020 at 11:26 am
That would be a great move for Buc fans for sure! And Glazers, Think of how many seats would be filled next season. Not to mention the positive publicity there would be for your franchise.
January 29th, 2020 at 11:29 am
I’d love to see it because I believe it, but if you signed someone like Mariota for 7-8 million, grab a qb 2-3 round of the draft, resign the defensive line, bring in a big time safety, draft 1-2 offensive lineman, add a reserve cb in case someone gets hurt, I think they are going deep in the playoffs.
Plenty of money to spread around. My only concern with Mariota is does he see the field, can he incorporate the receivers and the tight ends? If he can I think we could be San Fran next year with a better offense. I don’t honestly think we would see a huge decrease in production from our offense with our receivers.
January 29th, 2020 at 11:30 am
JayMiss should have moved on in 2015. Never should have been drafted by Bucs. Another Lovie Smith screw up.
When he finally does leave, I wish him luck in his backup role elsewhere.
Peace, out
January 29th, 2020 at 11:35 am
Will never ever happen.
Neither will Philip Rivers.
January 29th, 2020 at 11:40 am
Imagine this, Tampa signs Brady who has 1-2 good years left in him to draft a QB which given our history arent very good at doing and end up back in the toilet for maybe 1 playoff appearance. Mortgaging the future for a playoff run.
Winston goes to New England and leads them to multiple playoff appearances and a super bowl or two because they actually have a complete team. It wouldn’t shock me.
While most teams are looking for young players with potential to build a franchise around we are scouring the earth trying to find any over the hill QB to replace a 26 year old.
People want Phillip Rivers who threw 20 INT’s in a system he is familiar with and didnt go to the super bowl with better teams when he was in his prime.
Now we want 42 yr old Tom Brady who has been on a steady decline since 2017. His stats in the playoffs havent been all that impressive the last couple of years either. He has a good team that has helped him the most recent years.
January 29th, 2020 at 11:41 am
keep hope alive…!!!
January 29th, 2020 at 11:42 am
I think Brady in Carolina makes sense, they have #7 draft pick and can pick his replacement or wait until round 2.
January 29th, 2020 at 11:43 am
Brady to Bucs would be awesome but its not happening. Mariota and Bridgewater do not fit Arians’ offense and can’t take the beating Jameis can take.
January 29th, 2020 at 11:51 am
You guys and your “QB beatings” make me laugh. Firstly, Jameis brings half the “beatings” on himself because he doesn’t read and react fast enough, and often holds the ball too long, among other things. And the rules don’t allow the QB’s to take the beatings they used to. Can’t hit them high, can’t hit them low. Better equipment. Please, man.
January 29th, 2020 at 12:03 pm
Brady to the Bucs would be the answer for playoffs and contention.
Jameis to the Pats would not be realistic. The turnover issue would be too much to overcome.
I would love to see Jameis get to test the market, just to see what is out there. I don’t see $30 million, or the Pats in his future.
January 29th, 2020 at 12:06 pm
SteveK…agree… about $20, and that would be if he stayed here. Too many turnovers…
January 29th, 2020 at 12:09 pm
Imagine the National media frenzy if Brady to the Bucs actually happened.
January 29th, 2020 at 12:14 pm
lol that’d be so insane if Brady went to Tampa of all places
January 29th, 2020 at 12:18 pm
heavens forbid @ndog, @lamarcus and @nutter see this….lol….
since Chris Myers is an astute observer of all things Bucs, and not in the HOF, he must not know what he’s talking about….lol…he’s an idiot….he’s a clown…..
anyone suggesting the bucs should let JW walk must have not seen him toss for 5k yards, 30INTs and 7wins in a contract year….lol….
he’s only had 1 winning season but lets make him the highest paid QB in the NFL!!!!!!!
GO BUCS!!!!!!
January 29th, 2020 at 12:19 pm
JOE I know your all about Jameis every day but I just read an article about our defensive tackle being falsely accused of the animal abandonment and how it affected his family. My apologies if you already wrote on this update and I missed it. TY
January 29th, 2020 at 12:20 pm
LC
TB would be the unquestioned GOAT if he won a SB for the bucs in tampa next year….lol….
JW nuthuggers would say: but if JW was here, he wouldve won it too….lol….
GO BUCS!!!!
January 29th, 2020 at 12:21 pm
First off Mark is correct…JW has a long windup, takes forever although in fairness some of that is on BA’s offense…he likes to strike deep. But Brady has sooo much more pocket and field awareness. He wouldn’t hang on to the ball waiting for the deep route to open if he did not have enough protection…he would quickly hit the safety valve..if he’s covered it goes into the cheap seats. (dated reference there are no more CHEAP seats) And our OL is actually decent at pass pro…horrid at run blocking but middle of the pack in pass pro…and that’s with JW and BA’s deep routes that take awhile to develop.
Bonzai
Never say never. I agree that the odds are still pretty long but I think he’s more likely to come here than Rivers.
I’m always preaching about players who do not need the freaking money.
Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen have a combined net worth of $580 million.
Over a half BILLION in net worth means ANY NFL salary represents peanuts.
This is why Brady could always spot the Pats a hometown discount to help with the cap.
Brady will be looking at ONE or two things. FIRST…where can he go and win right now. Second is the HC running an offense that fits Brady or can adjustments be made. Then he’d check out targets…we have the BEST in the league right now…OL…we’re an RT away from a good OL…running game..we need a bruiser to pair with ROJO…
I cannot imagine where Brady could go and step into a starting role on a better team than the Bucs. Oh yeah there are better teams but they already have starting QB’s. Any doubt on who the Glazers would like to see at QB.
Ka-ching!!!
January 29th, 2020 at 12:26 pm
greg
thanks for the info….
media loves to rip folks apart when they’ve been accused of doing something wrong…..
but when the findings are false….crickets…..
GO BUCS!!!!!!
January 29th, 2020 at 12:32 pm
I’m sure Ted Bundy was a “good guy” too
January 29th, 2020 at 12:35 pm
Brady would put LOTS and LOTS of butts in the seats at Ray Jay.
January 29th, 2020 at 12:44 pm
Ted Bundy? I don’t understand the joke. Seriously, the guy was a mass murdering serial killer. WTH people. Don’t do drugs and post…please.
January 29th, 2020 at 12:47 pm
besides the 2 receivers, and possibly perriman, ….
brady would be drooling over his possible usage of the 2 tight ends…
he loves his tight ends…
remember when gronk and hernandez were in full swing over there in new england?…
brady has all the offensive weapons and more for a 2 year stint in tampa…
add in rojo, who can now catch out of the backfield…
brady would be loaded if the line can protect him…
🙂
ok now let’s move on from the dream scenario
January 29th, 2020 at 12:49 pm
mark2001 – Clearly you arent aware that BA’s offense allows for QB’s to get hit a lot. Thats why he got ran out of Pittsburgh.
SteveK – Winston wouldnt get paid 30mil more like 25-28mil but Im sure he would take less to play under Bill and have a complete team around him. Winston gets his WR’s paid. Humphries, Godwin and BP. So that wouldnt be a problem for him. Plus the with the new CBA if he has a career year he will probably get paid around 40 mil.
January 29th, 2020 at 1:03 pm
stpetebucsfan I can name a few better teams who would bring Brady in.
Saints, Cowboys, Colts and Bears.
Drew Brees may retire. Cowboys arent sure if they want to invest 35 mil in Dak due to his limitations, Colts just had Luck Retire and won 7 games with Jacoby Brisett pasing for less than 3000 yards and he would have TY Hilton and Eric Ebron and the bears won 8 games with Mitch as their QB.
We are in the running with those teams however, Saints/Cowboys are better. We would be in the group with the Colts and Bears and neither the Bears or Colts have offenses that are long developing deep shot plays. Both also have better running games.
January 29th, 2020 at 1:08 pm
Brady won’t hold the ball for 10 mins
The OLine is not as bad as y’all keep saying
Brady would be in heaven
He has never had this many weapons
January 29th, 2020 at 1:09 pm
Brady is 42 years old people.
Bridgwater blew out his knee for a year dropping back to pass in practice.
Rivers has bad turnover problems too.and is way passed his prime.
If we just gotta get rid of Jameies draft a rookie in round one and take advantage of the cap space for Shaq and some other free agent help at online and running back.. maybe we get Mahomes 2.0. A long shot but better than bringing in some washed up guy for big money. Who won’t even make it through the season.
January 29th, 2020 at 1:10 pm
adam from ny – BA isnt going to redesign his offense for Tom Brady to utilize the tight ends. Winston loves his tight ends as well. In Dirks offense he would get both involved early and often as well. Do you think he just choose not to this year? No, the offense doesnt call for them to be featured. The blocked more than ran routes.
January 29th, 2020 at 1:13 pm
So Tom Brady couldn’t beat the Dolphins in week 17 to clinch a BYE and then loses in the first round and he’s supposed to take the Bucs roster to the SB?
I’ll believe it when I see it!
January 29th, 2020 at 1:15 pm
Eric …like Bradshaw says…Arians isn’t here in Tampa forever.
Perhaps he doesn’t want to start over with a new QB and thinks he can coach up Jameis a little bit more and reduce the picks.
I don’t see the Bucs going the rookie route. Might draft a QB 3rd round or later.
January 29th, 2020 at 1:16 pm
Peeps forget.
We’ve had Jameis for 5 years. Arians has only had him for 1.
January 29th, 2020 at 1:32 pm
DaPostman,
Check out DVOA, and compare the targets Brady had vs. Jameis.
Give Brady the best WR dup
In the game and two TEs. Look out.
January 29th, 2020 at 1:35 pm
Sleepy,
I wouldn’t bet on signing Jameis bc of a new CBA. Understandable it would be an advantage to sign him know if the play merited such, but I hope we start anew. At less than of the price tag is more than last year.
January 29th, 2020 at 1:45 pm
If we are going to go with an old guy……at least Brady would be a winner…..Joe counts rings…..
He probably would cost as much as Jameis and we would definitely need to draft a QB….but if you’re going to make a change….this would give us a chance of success.
Even though temporary…..you have to ask the question….”Which QB gives the Bucs the best chance at the playoffs?…..Winston or Brady?
Any intellectually honest fan would have to say Brady.
January 29th, 2020 at 1:46 pm
So much football knowledge here…..lol
January 29th, 2020 at 1:54 pm
Yep, Winston may be better of relocating – to the CFL!!!!!
January 29th, 2020 at 1:55 pm
@SteveK,
He had one of the best defenses this past year and still lost those two games at the end. Ya know when it matters. Don’t forget the 2 pick 6’s he threw to LOSE those games. Brady is a rental at this point in his career without a guarantee of winning the SB under the hood.
This would be akin to trading for a pitcher during the summer trade deadline then letting him walk after you didn’t win the WS. How many years left do people think this guy has?
January 29th, 2020 at 1:55 pm
Sign Brady , draft Hebert, and a RT and resign DOT for Oline Depth and draft a swing tackle with our 4th compensatory pick or sign Conklin if he isnt trying to break the bank.
January 29th, 2020 at 2:07 pm
Brady is a workout fiend. He is in great shape. He has taken care of himself for his entire playing career. Can’t have it both ways..some have pointed out the Pats always have an outstanding OL…therefore he’s had minimal wear and tear.
Here’s a thought…perhaps the Bucs were better than NE…which is why Brady didn’t beat the Dolphins. First we hear JW woulda coulda but he didn’t have the teammates. Do we suppose that Brady would have fared better that final game and the playoffs if he was throwing to ME…Godwin…Perriman, Brate, OJ instead of having Julian Edelman as his top target.
The Pats had the third worst rushing defense in the AFC. The Pats play in a weak division. Our D is BETTER than the Pats D. Hard to imagine but it’s a new day in Tampa Bay. Our D was the top run defense in the entire league and after the trio of kids in our defensive backfield we had a good defense…much better than the Pats. This is why we MIGHT have a long shot chance at getting him.
Brady is clearly not the same player he was 10 years ago. Was Peyton Manning the same QB who won in Denver as he was in Indianapolis. Manning set the record for starting a SB at age 39…and this after what was a career threatening neck injury. Oh guess who broke his record…Brady at 41.
Peyton was smart enough to adapt..horrors..would we call him a game manager?
Brady is a very smart poised football player…JW not so much…in fact he’s pretty much the opposite…he’s gotten by his entire career on his gun not his football smarts and judgement. What a concept…a smart field general who gets it!
And we haven’t talked about the intangibles. The GOAT…all the winning past he brings to the team versus and the 28-42 current QB.
January 29th, 2020 at 2:19 pm
Brady gets rid of the ball quickly …in the Patriot offense…our offense throws the ball down field, a lot of seven step drop backs and roll outs (such Tom can not do) …behind this O/line…down goes Tom!! I will refuse to talk FAMOUS until the BUCS make a decision that should have been made two months ago!! GO TEAM BUCS ….2020!!!
January 29th, 2020 at 2:33 pm
Please no more talk of Herbert. He is Josh Freeman 2.0. Its still question marks if this guy really even cares about football or if its something for him to do.
Brady does take care of his body, however I dont want to be the team that takes a 1-2 year flyer on this guy and realize he doesnt have anything left and we let a 26 year old walk to save 5 million.
I know he has been here 5 years and hasnt made the playoffs but maybe thats partly because of prior coaching staff more so than Winston. I mean given Dirks history he has a good first year then its down hill from there. Look at his time in Jacksonville, Atlanta, and Tampa.
BA came here because of Winston. I think you let BA fine tune Winston.
January 29th, 2020 at 2:34 pm
Myers is spot on with JW; although I’m not convinced Brady’s arm strength is where it needs to be to run BA’s offense. Brady is certainly the master of game management which happens to be Winston’s greatest weakness. One thing is obvious, the Bucs have yet to decide on a QB for 2020 and all options are still on the table which is why BA and JL are laying low.
January 29th, 2020 at 3:06 pm
SteveK Says:
“Give Brady the best WR dup
In the game and two TEs. Look out.”
Unless of course those 2 WR’s get bad hammy’s, then what? Will Brady still light it up with only Perriman….?
You better say yes….StPete….better say yes. Lot’s of posters, better say yes.
I say NOPE!
January 29th, 2020 at 3:14 pm
Sleepy
I do not accept your four teams as better than us. Did they post much better records than us. Was their team improving as the season wore on or not?
The Colts and Bears are not better than us. Dallas arguable but I would debate that as well.
New Orleans is clearly better than us! They have three QB’s one of whom may retire that leaves two who have won with them…they are NOT going to be interested in any other QB…Dallas…maybe…no doubt about Chicago and Indy.
January 29th, 2020 at 3:15 pm
Can we all stop pretending that Jameis doesn’t hold all the cards here. There’s no one else out there! That includes whoever we might draft.
January 29th, 2020 at 3:48 pm
stpetebucsfan – Dallas has a top 5 offensive line that will keep Tom upright, He would have a top 5 running back and a top 10 Defense. Yes they are better than us in all phases of the game.
Chicago has a QB thats not even a game manager and won 8 games. Mitch is much worse than Winston and they were two wins from the playoffs. They have a top 5 Defense and as deep as the WR class is in this draft they can draft a 2nd WR to pair with Allen to give to Tom. They have a stable of backs already.
We may be on a better Trajectory than the colts however once again they won 7 games when Luck unexpectedly retired. They won the same amount of games as us with a career back up leading the team.
We arent better than Chicago or Dallas. The only place we hold a true advantage are our WR’s. Will our defense be better than Chicago and Dallas next year? Maybe Dallas but we wont be better than Chicago. Do we have a better run game than either? Absolutely not. Do we have a better Oline than either? Dallas: Absolutely not. Chicago: Maybe…
If Tom weighed going to Dallas vs Tampa its a no brainer – its Dallas.
Chicago vs Tampa it’ll probably come down to money.
January 29th, 2020 at 3:59 pm
Jameis goes to New England to win a super bowl. Brady comes here and gets his ass kicked.
January 29th, 2020 at 4:40 pm
Timing is everything. Ours stinks. We’ve got no one behind Jameis (bad decision last year to get rid of all competition) and we have few options AT THIS MOMENT but to keep Jameis for one more year. However, things can change very rapidly in the NFL … a FA signing here, a trade there and VOILA, it’s a new ballgame. That’s what makes it fun.
And for those advocating finding a starting QB in the 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th rounds, it’s highly unlikely that’ll happen. Even the 2nd round is unlikely (periodically one does fall through however).
January 29th, 2020 at 4:58 pm
Do it…….do it.
January 29th, 2020 at 5:09 pm
Brady is ancient, so band aid at best….NOT going to happen. JW transition tagged….book it
January 29th, 2020 at 5:11 pm
Defense Rules…that’s what I’ve been bantering about all day on here…that’s there’s a very good chance Winston is behind center for the Bucs in 2020.
I’m with Bradshaw actually…perhaps BA decides…I’m not starting over at QB.
January 29th, 2020 at 5:16 pm
Mister Negative Nancy says
“I am sure Ted Bundy was a “good guy” too.
—
What??????
What kind of dumb a$$ comment is that??
frikking wierdo.
January 29th, 2020 at 5:20 pm
Sleepy903,
Calling ANYONE (Herbert) is pretty rough, man.
There is only ONE Josh Freeman.
Thankfully.
January 29th, 2020 at 5:22 pm
Sleepy903,
Calling Herbert “Josh Freeman 2.0”
January 29th, 2020 at 5:40 pm
Remember people, Brady is slow and don’t scramble well and when he get hit and pressured a lot he starts to play bad. Now put him behind the Bucs OL. Just check the stats on how many time Jameis was sack in 019. Even though some of Jameis sacks was on him I watch every game lack year many games he was under pressure all game long. Good thing he was able to scramble and make some plays
January 29th, 2020 at 6:24 pm
He’s been throwing nothing but slants for years but he’s gonna fit in a straight verticals offense lol? Make it make sense
January 29th, 2020 at 6:27 pm
What a kitty cat…DR is…4:40 and nuthin. Figured as much.
January 29th, 2020 at 7:10 pm
Sleepy
All excellent points. We agree more than disagree. I do not consider Dallas a major step up from us but I’ll concede that edge. The Bears…we’ll see..we agree that Indy is nothing to jump up and down about.
January 29th, 2020 at 7:33 pm
BucsFIRE – Im just saying his coaches at Oregon wasnt sure if his heart was in football and some even questioned his leadership skills. I would hate to draft him and then we have those same question marks as with Freeman.
Herbert may be the better talent but I’d rather have Eason if thats the case. Remember Tampa already drafted one player that never played a down for us.
January 29th, 2020 at 8:37 pm
I would so love to see Brady in pewter… just can’t see it ever happening. I can dream though… no need to avert your eyes for fear of the next mindless heave… dimes hitting receivers in stride… no inexplicable picks from tipped passes thrown too high, too low and behind on crossing routes. It would be beautiful… TB12, “Tommy Tampa” works for your 3 year sprint to retirement at 45 after proving to Bill that you can do it without him.
January 29th, 2020 at 10:10 pm
You guys need to step back into reality. Including Joe.
Rivers will likely retire because no team, including the Bucs, will just hand him a starting role…unless it is due to injury or as a bridge player.
Brady and Brees will not play for other teams. Not going to happen.
Bridgewater is a half year wonder cut by his original team because he proved he could not hack it as a starter.
The Cowboys will resign Dak because they’d be fools not to. I would take him over a lot of QBs in the league…including Winston.
Stafford is only 31. He would be good in Tampa and he’s the right age to plat another 8-9 years…but Detroit won’t let him go this year, even if they draft a guy.
January 29th, 2020 at 10:40 pm
@bonzai… rivers is in for next year and will have 3 or 4 places to start.
BridgewATER can play and will get a good contract . He looked great before injury too and to call him 1/2 wonder is dumb. I think all the qbs you mention with the exception of rivers will be with the same team they were this year, including #3
January 29th, 2020 at 11:19 pm
Jamoist will be back where he belongs. Keeping the Bucs out of the playoffs. Licht has a serious man crush on the turnover machine, and BA has an ego that will not accept defeat. In the end we’ll all be left with the same old story. #NoPlayoffs
January 30th, 2020 at 8:10 am
Brady in Tampa = playoffs and taking a cap-friendly contract, which Brady has always taken for his teams, is a far better option than throwing a bank vault at Jameis whose 5 year career has been marred by bad game awareness and throwing the ball to the wrong jerseys.
Brady is in great shape, there are a few reasons he doesn’t take a lot of sack. First, he has a fast release, he recognizes coverages (Jameis cannot) and gets the ball out to the correct read and his pocket awareness is superior to Jameis.
His level of success is uncomparable, look at the numbers he put up with Randy Moss. Mike Evans is the next Randy Moss with Brady throwing to him and Chris Godwin can be Wes Welker/Julian Edelman with far more YAC than he has gotten from Jameis.
The only concern is money, the Bucs desperately need to build around their QB, if Brady takes a front and backloaded contract with guaranteed money and a low salary cap position, the Bucs would be insane to not negotiate with him.
January 30th, 2020 at 10:34 am
Okay, people…answer this: Why would the Patriots NOT offer Brady money to play year-to-year?
I mean, get serious, people.
January 30th, 2020 at 5:19 pm
Bonz — the only way Brady is not a Patriot in 2020 is if Brady doesn’t want to be. That’s the only way I see him leaving. They were 21-4 without a true #1 or #2 WR, no TE, and an abysmal OL. Brady got pounded, I never saw him tale the punishment I saw him take, even against the Dolphins. So, yeah, I agree with you.
