Price too rich to keep?
The way Bucs receiver Breshad Perriman played in the final half of the season, he gave the Bucs the most complete set of receivers in the game.
Think about it: Who could boast they had two 1,000-yard receivers like Mike Evans (who is on a Hall of Fame trajectory) and Chris Godwin along with a speed demon like Perriman?
And when both Evans and Godwin got hurt with hamstring injuries and were lost for the season, Perriman played out of his mind.
And in the mind of Albert Breer of SI.com, Perriman played his way off the Bucs roster.
Why is that? Because Breer believes Perriman, a free agent, is going to have serious coin thrown his way by some team and the Bucs simply will not have the funds to keep all their free agents.
It’s pretty unlikely that the Buccaneers will be able to hold on to former first-round pick Breshad Perriman with Mike Evans already paid and rising star Chris Godwin going into a contract year and seeking a new deal. But Perriman, whose stock was resurrected in Bruce Arians’s offense could be an intriguing option at receiver for someone. Over Tampa’s last nine games, he caught 33 balls for 629 yards and six scores, and really came on over the final quarter of the season (20 catches, 419 yards, five TDs).
Man, if there was a way to keep Perriman, that is a lethal threesome of receivers.
But you know what? For the first time in forever, it seems a Bucs coaching staff is able to develop players. Now one could argue the Bucs were not developing Justin Watson, or the receivers the team signed off the street to fill the losses of Evans and Godwin.
But that may not be fair. The Bucs seemed to do OK later in the season with Scotty Miller before he was lost with a hamstring injury, so Watson may be an isolated case. Guys off the street? How long did the coaching staff have to work with these guys, 10 days?
Perhaps the Bucs can find another speedy receiver like Perriman who hasn’t lived up to his draft status?
Joe guesses the key here is Miller. If he can continue the growth he showed last year, perhaps Perriman won’t be such a big hole to fill?

They will draft a guy in this deep receivers draft, cant pay 3 receivers top shelf money unless you thought the coming season was the one you will make a serious play for a superbowl. You’ll need all 3 against the 49ers. Just think if not for the turnovers we would have beaten them. Your not developing anything if the turnover ratio is this high.

Perriman is 100% replaceable & for less coin.
He was a WR3 bust through 3/4 of the season…And if Evans/Godwin don’t get hurt late in season, he would have been a bust the last 1/4.
If Bucs want a UCF WR on the roster…They need to go get Gabriel Davis in the draft!

Which came first the chicken or the egg? I wonder which QB these two pro bowl receivers made acrobatic catches in traffic to make look good statistically at least.
As for Perriman…yeah he’s gone. There is only ONE football. He is a luxury item for this team compared to the dozens of teams that truly NEED him.

At the very least they will have to choose between perriman and brate. Choose one. Or are both gone? That one might worry me a bit. Personally I’d prefer to keep Brate but he hasn’t been used much. Seems aran values a #3 more. Both may be gone and we draft a #3 or at least someone to compete with watson and killer. That might be ok

Sign Perriman. Then trade him and O J Howard as a package for a top tier left tackle.
Then move Donovan Smith to right tackle. Check.
Draft De’Andre Swift number one. Check.
Draft a safety in second. Check.
See, in my own little mind, it’s not that hard.

I am wondering if perhaps signing Perriman and trading Evans for a high pick might be a better deal. Of course I really like Evans but I might like Perriman’s total game even more. Godwin seems to me to be the best of the 3. But I really liked Perriman’s work a hell of a lot. I hope we can keep them all.

The only quarterback other than Jameis that can get the ball to Perriman is Mahomes. Where is Perriman going to go? Mike Evans does not win jump balls. Julio Jones wins jump ball. Watch the tape. Chris Godwin does not win jump balls, but he does make tough catches in tight windows. If both got more separation they would have more touchdowns and a hell of a lot more yards. Winston interceptions would be a third of what it is now.

I’m not predicting or advocating for the following in any way, but…
The Bucs have a lot of people to pay. It would be irresponsible if they do not evaluate trading Mike Evans. If he could net a first (or high second) round pick, that would free up quite a bit cap space.
As much as we all like ME13, I think San Francisco is proof that taking care of the defensive and offensive lines is more important than having 2 pro bowl receivers.

I’ve been saying this for a while. Perriman will get paid like a #1 by somebody. We can’t afford three #1 WR salaries.

It depends I believe Jameis has the ability to make receivers look good as he has countless times if he stays let Perriman walk for the money he is going to command we have Watson, Miller, and can draft another 3rd receiver if need be people y’all a lot about Licht be he stays finding gems/glue guys Barrett, Nassib, Perriman, Cappa, Hump, Shepard, Adams, Kwon, Brate he just has to start hitting on the O-Line, running back, safety, and kicker he hasn’t had the best track record at those positions and it loses us games each year.

Pete Mitchell trade Evans and Brate to the Raiders for their 19th pick. Trade the 14th and 19th and 2021 1st round pick to the Bengals. Joe Burrow save cap space Evans, Brate, and Winston. But if the Bengals are not willing still have two no.1 picks.

Trade Evans? Are ya’ll on crack? Not only would the fans revolt, but you’d be losing the bucs best reciever since they drafted him. Here’s a thought. How about Winston shave 4-5 mil off his contract to bring perriman back? Keep Evan’s, Godwin, and perriman.. Winston settles for 22-25mil.. toss in a few crab legs to sell the deal…

What value does O J Howard have to the Bucs who don’t feature a tight end?
What would say the Patriots, (or another team), give to get a tight end and wide receiver for Brady (they tried to trade for Howard)?

All of you “Trade Evans” wingnuts need to leave… he not only earned his contract he’s playing up to it. If he didn’t play on a team that has missed the playoffs forever he’d be in the Top 5 WR and Future HoF conversations everywhere. Remember back when he had the dropsies (while still putting up 1,000 yards)? What did he do… fixed it! THAT is work ethic and dedication to your craft! Godwin seems like he’s out of the same mold. Now let’s find a QB who doesn’t throw 30 to the other team while making our stud WRs lunge for inaccurate balls half the time. Trade Evans… are you out of your mind?

The guy was a ghost for 12-games, I think we’ll be OK so long as they get another vet for that slot. In fact they should get a vet there AND draft another WR in the 3rd round or so. We saw what happened when Evans and Godwin went down – in those last two games, in particular in the Atlanta game, the Falcons made halftime adjustments to take away Perriman and Winston had no one to throw to since Arians offense really doesn’t use the TE much. In that Atlanta game the running game was working great, but did it matter when there was no one to throw to? Nope. Thus proving a #3 and even #4 WR is more important than wasting another high pick on a RB.

If someone pays Perrimam big $, he’s gone. This is a deep draft for WR. Lots of good WR left on day 3 – speedsters and possession receivers. Personally, I like Chayse Claypool. Looks like he’s rated as a 4th rd pick.

Yup, that’s exactly what should and will happen. That’s how it goes when you want something but don’t have enough money to buy it.

StPete, it’s not a chicken or the egg situation. Perriman was a total bust before he got to Tampa. Hump was very productive here, got paid, and then warmed the bench for TN. I know you are decidedly anti Jameis now, but if you open your eyes it is plain to see that Jameis makes great recievers and mediocre receivers alike look great. You can hate him all you want, but to act like Jameis has nothing to do with the HOF trajectory ME is on and the pro bowl level play of Godwin is just absurd. You don’t want to give him credit and I get it, but when a dude comes in that was a chump everywhere else performs like never before you can bet your a$$ the QB had a lot to do with it. Do you think Hump appreciates Jameis getting him a fat contract after not even being drafted out of college.

The contrast between the Bucs run/pass balance and the 49ers’ in that NFC championship game should be enough to remind you all just how good the Bucs offense should make any decent receiver look. They are getting so many more opportunities to make plays here.. Good players *should* look great with that many chances
And so.. draft Perriman’s replacement and wish him well wherever he lands. Re-signing the entire D-line matters much more, IMHO.
