Joe is disturbed by various happenings around the NFL as we sit just two months and two days from the ringing of the 2020 free agency dinner bell.
Joe sees the young talent on the interior of the Redskins’ defensive line, their eventual drafting of manbeast edge rusher Chase Young, the presence of new defensive coaches Ron Rivera and Jack Del Rio, and an owner unafraid to spend, and Joe can only think of one thing: Jason Pierre-Paul wearing a Washington uniform next season.
JPP may be the most interesting of the Bucs’ pending free agents.
The guy has been an athletic freak since he was drafted by the Giants. Then he literally blew chunks of his hand off and fought a huge medical battle to return to the game.
He then got a surprise 2018 trade to the lowly Bucs and proceeded to give it all he had in a 12 1/2-sack season.
Then JPP broke his neck in May and returned midseason to rack up strong numbers in 10 games. The guy’s a versatile, truly one-of-a-kind player who just turned 31 years old.
Would you rather have him or older-than-JPP Ryan Kerrigan playing the edge in your new 4-3 defense opposite college football’s most ferocious edge rusher?
Joe has a very strong feeling that JPP, who just turned 31, will be coveted by the new regime in Washington. He’s a culture-changing kind of guy for a couple of attack-dog defensive coaches who no doubt appreciate what JPP brings and how he could impact a rookie.
Yes, Joe realizes it’s common for Bucs fans to think JPP will be happy to be paid like a second-fiddle pass rusher to Shaq Barrett. Joe has no clue why some fans and media believe that, but the reality is JPP would be the No. 1 pass rusher on many teams, including the Falcons and Dolphins.
Joe has an eye on Miami for JPP, where the Dolphins are expected to have an unprecedented $125 million in cap space and have pledged to use it in 2020. JPP and his family live in South Florida.

He played well and many articles are written about free agents nobody wants. Im sure you’ll have a lot OC your weak minded fans stressing over nothing. His family’s is close by which seems to be important at this stage of his career, we have the inside track and Bucs will find a way to keep any free agents they want and BA wants him back end of story but would be more worried about Miami

I think as long as we dont low ball him he will be back. Yes Washington is putting together a good defensive staff and their D-line has talent. However players rave about Todd Bowles and playing in his system. I think as long as the money is right we have the edge in that department. Load the contract with incentives as well.

Miami is in rebuild mode, they won’t want JPP. They have a boat load of draft picks, and will be drafting a rookie QB to sit for a year. They are not in win now mode, and won’t be wasting a ton of money on an aging DE. He’s more likely to sign with a playoff contender. That’s not Miami, or Washington.

Love to keep him, but don’t overpay. the bucs need to model the pats.
He’s a stud, but also prone to being not available. i.e neck, hand, age….
him or suh, we need both of them, but have to keep at least one for the locker room as well as their play

JPP is staying. The was a Shaq Barrett locker room interview not too long ago where he said that he and JPP had been talking and said that they’re in this together.
And on that note Shaq has expressed several times since then that he wants to stay. Which leads me to believe JPP wants to as well.

Agree with all the posts here.
D.R. has been warning us…and for the wankers who have come on her saying we have plenty of cap money…uh not really. Especially if we pay “Blameless” what he believes he’s worth at 30 million plus!
That’s not to say that it is impossible that “blameless” could be worth losing one or two of our valued FA’s from that successful front seven.
It’s simply to confirm what DR has been telling us for months.
Some really…really difficult choices loom in this off season.
As for JPP…Miami scares me most because its his home and with all those draft picks they will be able to manager their cap for years to come with all the rookie contracts.
I agree with Joe that it’s appealing to a team with an influx of rookies to have a seasoned vet who has demonstrated leadership that played a significant role..along with our rookies..in turning this D around.
I understand the views of those who believe Miami is ready to rebuild and do not need JPP’s performance numbers…however they have money to burn so why not groom that huge influx of rookies with a proven leader and hometown guy.
Not sure why any NFL player would wish to play for Daniel Snyder other than simple $$$.

I will say this, its adorable you fools believe everything you hear…. money talks and winning organizations will always break lowly bucfans hearts because they have so much more to offer…. bucs are the least desirable location in sports. Small market, worst winning percentage in sports and 40 years of losing including a 18 year gap since the last meaningful win… joining the bucs is like volunteering for a uboat crew at the end of ww2 you know you have very little hope…

To me-he’s the man. All this talk about Jameis, JPP is the powerstroke for the defense. Honestly after the first month, shaq was shut down as o-lines focused on him. JPP comes back and they both start blowing up. IMO JPP is more important than Shaq.

What was he supposed to say about VH3 and his secondary they suck because they are young? He did the same thing for them he did for Winston but he was tight and it was fixed meaning they have the right guys. Unfortunately we don’t run a 4-3 and JPP is not a 3-4 Leo. He can’t drop in coverage like Barrett he is awkward in space. The same with Nassib. We need to find FA or draft to develop a Leo who can hold their own in coverage when asked.

It’s official. I can’t respect opinion’s of those who can’t spell LOSE correctly, so I will now be scanning past anything you say.
IMO WE NEED TO KEEP JPP OVER SHAQ. I love shaq but I sincerely believe with Vea and another hog next to him, most edge rushers will do better. I mean JPP balled out the last few games when fully healthy and football shape. I think he would have gotten close to shaq if he played all year if not more. I do hope we keep both though.

R.O. … Obviously the Bucs don’t run a 4-3 anymore, but they do show a lot of 4-3 looks it appears. Probably because TB uses a true ‘hybrid defense’ with LOTS of twists & turns to it. JPP played 10 games this year WITHOUT having the benefit of Training Camp AND with the ‘baggage’ of more-than-likely not being in perfect football condition at the start. But STILL he managed to put up some very impressive numbers in 10 games …
o 8.5 sacks (could probably extrapolate that to 13.5 sacks in a full 16 games).
o 16 QB Hits (could probably extrapolate that to 26 QB Hits in a full 16 games).
o 2 FF, 9 TFLs, 2 PD, 24 solo tackles, etc.
o Plus he averaged almost 59 defensive snaps per game over his 10 games.
And that’s all in barely HALF a season AFTER returning from a broken neck. He (like Shaq Barrett) excel in this defense. And yes, largely because the interior of our DLine (Vea & Suh primarily) kick ass & take names. Elite players like JPP & Shaq feed off that. Bucs would be dumber than dirt if we don’t bring back JPP, Suh AND Shaq to focus on creating a Top-10 defense this year & next year. Without that, no playoffs.

IMO. Jpp is priority. Shaq is ok but you can drop a transition tag on him. I do want a dline draft in the first two picks.
Jpp is a bull. He can line up anywhere. Shaq only edge. Shaq is shaky in coverage.

I don’t see JPP making any less than Shaq. When JPP came back and was in full force, he was the one getting the most pressures, finding multiple ways to the QB and setting the tone. He needs to be back.

Seeing as it must have been JPPs request to drop the last year of his contract, there is a good chance he will move on.
Or…maybe he just wants the freedom to choose to stay and make a little more money too.
The way I see it, Suh is worth $10m per year, but could be replaced with another run stopper. His attitude though is kind of important.
JPP is worth at least $12m per year…and I suspect he will want one year deals going forward.
Shaq is worth $15m per year…and we need to lock him up for 6 or more years.

Subtotal: $91m – $37m = $54m
That’s more than we had to work with last year when we assembled that line. We could easily keep Winston AND sign a couple free agents.

Bonzai … Agree with you on Suh’s value ($10 mil annually for 2 years is what I’d like to see), but JPP is worth $13-$14 mil annually on a 3-year deal (say $40 mil total) IMO. Shaq’s Market Value of $16 mil annually looks about right to me because he got a number of good years ahead (I’d say a 4-5 deal at $16 mil per would HOPEFULLY work).
Nassib is still the wild card … folks underestimate him but he (and Will Gholston) were quite valuable last year. I’m thinking $7 mil for 3-4 years. Allen is odd-man-out IMO ($5 mil for 179 defensive snaps (16%) in 2019 in 13 games doesn’t cut it in my book. Draft a replacement high who can take Allen’s spot in the rotation for 2 years THEN he can replace Suh after that and we’ll draft another DT to develop & fit into the rotation.

All the quotes seem to indicated JPP/Shaq want to keep this together but who knows.
As 813 said the Redskins already spent a R1 pick on edge last year and will have another this year. JPP would be part of a 3 man rotation not the automatic lead that is assumed.
JBF posters are knowledgeable fans. We go deep on other teams rosters and the draft because we have to scour the world for any breadcrumbs of hope for change since our actual team won’t give it to us typically.
