Two Bucs Make All-Rookie Team

All-Rookie team.
In retrospect, if the Bucs had a little better kicking, the 2019 draft class might just be damn good.
As it currently stands, the Bucs had a strong draft class. When you get three productive starters, that’s not too shabby.
The Pro Football Writers of America selected its All-Rookie team announced yesterday, and two Bucs rookies made the list: linebacker Devin White and cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting
Cornerback Jamel Dean, who finished fourth in the NFL in passes defended (17) while only starting five games, did not make this team.
White, SMB and Dean ought to make the Bucs proud with a fine showing in their first seasons.
If Matt Gay can solve his puzzle of kicking in the south end zone at the Den of Depression, that very well could make the Bucs rookie class of 2019 pretty darn good.

Gay cost the Bucs at least 2 wins and the miss against the Giants was especially demoralizing after coughing up the lead but then Jameis heroically hit Evans with the bomb that shoul have won the game. Open competition for kicker, bring in 6 or 7. Gay is not the answer.

Dean got snubbed, BTW how are they gonna only let two corners in? It’s 2020, nickel IS base. Gardner-Johnson is a nickel too.

Sean deserves to start over Hargreaves if they would have inserted him into the lineup we would be in the playoffs simple. Jamal Dean is good but he only plays outside SMB plays both Plus he’s a better athlete if you let Sean have 18 pass deflections believe he’s getting 9 pick. SMB is the best corner in the draft.

Not so sure about SMB… I’m thinking Dean would have been a better pick. But oh well.

SMB did a great job this year as did white….dean played well….
i know he’s not a rookie but i was most impressed with cappa this year….we’re just a RT away from being above average imo….

Rod please you obviously don’t know football but it’s cool to each his own but when it’s all said and done we will see who on top. Deans good but too much injury history and he’s not athletic like SMB period.Hey let’s say SMB didn’t have anything to do with them releasing Hargreaves ok why didn’t they put Jamel dean in….. exactly

Arm chair gms bashed the sean murphy bunting pick as soon as he was drafted. They screamed for greedy williams because he was the 1st name they heard about in feburary of last year so he had to be the next deion sanders according to the arm chair gms who had not watched one ounce of film. They screamed for greedy williams eventhough 9 cornerbacks was picked before him but that did not stop the arm chair gms. The arm chair gms bashed smb and called him a bust after his 1st and 2nd PRESEASON game. The arm chair gms brought up the greatness of greedy williams again. Some arm chair gms even brought up the greatness of greedy williams during the season not realizing that he was in and out of the line up do to poor play. But sure, lets listen to all the arm chair gms on this site.

Agree completely about our OL. Many sites had them top ten in pass pro..run blocking needs to improve.
Isn’t Cappa capable of playing RT? Not sure. But the reason I ask is the draft.
Perhaps we go for a beastly guard? Otherwise it needs to be a great RT.

You may be right, and I have nothing against open competition…however, I think too many people are writing off Gay too soon. Much like they did Vea and Rojo. Heck, some even gave up on White this year at one point.
My point is, I have a feeling Matt Gay might come back stronger this off season, having gotten a year of experience. But, by all means, make him earn it.

I was too. Cappa is yet another example of how Bucs fans give up on players too soon. A lot of fans wanted him cut last off season.

i think he’s capable but he looked dominate at G….similar to marpet….he’s capable of playing center but G looks to be his best position….
imo, we should let cappa continue to develop at RG….but i trust the coaches….if they think cappa can hold down the RT position im all for it….

i think its another example of how the previous staff couldnt develop anything except for pass catchers….outside of hump and brate, dirk and his staff couldnt develop DBs, Rbs, OLs, DEs…..

Bonz – definitely give Gay another chance but in an open competition. I’m also wondering what the kicking coach did to his psyche. Maybe got him thinking too much? The miss against the Giants, he hit it about a foot fat, like one of my golf shots.

Lennon Duncan – Huh? I was talking about making the all-rookie team, not as a prospect. I think Dean, overall, had the better year and certainly had the better second half of the season – but I wasn’t disappointed, just out of the two I think Dean nudged out SMB by a bit. Both however look like they can play which is a good thing.

Oh no….not you too…”Blameless” gets sacked because of his long baseball windup…his very slow decision making and his lack of quickness in escaping the pocket and YET…many sites have the Bucs line in their top ten of pass blockers.
Perhaps we can find another reason in pointing out the Buc RB’s are not great blocking backs?

stpete- you’re better than that. We run a 4 vert offense that requires a 5-7 step drop. I agree with a lot you say here but you and I are opposite on Jameis. He isn’t blameless and he tells you this every Sunday afternoon in the post game. However, if you think our O-line is top 10 then you just don’t watch the games. Those sites certainly don’t. You cite a lack of quickness in the pocket, what? JW is like Houdini back there (yes he throws stupid passes sometimes, LOL, but his escapability cannot be questioned). He took a lot of sacks that he hasn’t taken the previous 4 years and rightly so. Last year everyone was crying for him to just go down and live to fight another down. He did that this year. Again nobody is saying JW didn’t have a terrible year with turnovers, but he certainly isn’t to be blamed for EVERY one either. If you believe in the o-line and their “top 10 ranking” a stat driven analysis, why can’t you believe JWs 5100 yards, 33 TDs? It’s because you don’t want to. So again, much respect to most of your analysis on the Bucs- just a disagreement on JW. Peace
