“Cheat Code” For Next Year
January 11th, 2020Look, Joe will keep hammering this home until the Bucs do something about it or someone on the roster steps up and gets the job done.
The Bucs run game is pathetic and needs an upgrade. There simply is no excuse. When you lean on a guy who was the worst running back in terms of production last year, that speaks volumes that you better go out and get this area fixed.
How many games did the Bucs p!ss away when they thought they had a comfortable halftime lead only to play turtle and hope the running attack could drain the clock?
You can’t bank on your running game to win a game if you don’t have a running game to begin with.
It seems the Bucs conned themselves into believing they had one back in underwear football and refused to acknowledge they had a problem. There are actually countless treatment centers throughout the nation that help people who do this to themselves.
Late in the season, perhaps the Bucs found glimpses of what could be a solid running attack because they began to feature Ronald Jones a little more. The second-round pick in 2018 was dreadful as a rookie and it appeared he was on a one-way ticket to being out of football.
But in his last two games (at the Den of Depression) Jones ran for 183 yards total and appeared to be an NFL running back. Dan Shea, a draft analyst for NFL Draft Blitz, seems to think RoJo’s success the final two games of the season will carry over to 2020.
Ronald Jones II was a cheat code at #USC
One of my favorite all time college running backs.
I think he’s going to break out with the #Bucs next year. pic.twitter.com/9hQyhG0avk
— Dan Shea (@DanSheaNFL) January 10, 2020
Here’s the thing: It is nice to hope that, but in past years the Bucs have gotten themselves into a whole lot of trouble hoping things happened. Like hoping Vernon Hargreaves would play like a first-round pick or hoping that pulling a guy off the street like Carl Nassib would be the answer to pass rushing woes, or hoping that Doug Martin would reach out and touch his rookie magic and lead the Bucs to the playoffs, or hoping Noah Spence would finally turn the corner and be healthy.
Hope, at least for an NFL team, should be a four-letter word.
To the best of Joe’s knowledge, no Florida statute forbids the Bucs from upgrading the running game at the same time crossing their fingers Jones’ 2020 season is his breakout year.
And in case Jones does break out next year, well, Joe has never heard of a football coach who flings his laptop at the wall in rage because he has two good running backs.
January 11th, 2020 at 3:05 pm
the key to jones is to be able to run efficient sweeps, so he can get outside with a chance of making his one good cutback…
January 11th, 2020 at 3:23 pm
The key to Jones is the continued development of Alex Cappa. Cappa’s blocking open the holes for RoJo to run through. With a new RT, the counters and pulling of offensive linemen could almost replace a fullback.
They will have to because Arians doesn’t believe in fullbacks or two back sets. That is a shame because Barber or Auclair could be good at the fullback position.
Off the topic:
How about Trey Lance, North Dakota State redshirt- freshman QB. 28 touchdowns and not one interception this year. That ended making his team 16-0 for the season. Awesome
January 11th, 2020 at 3:48 pm
We have a running game, it’s just a below-average one at this point. and Jones in the second half of the season played better than vh3 did his entire tenure here. Clearly we need to add a back, likely through the draft.
January 11th, 2020 at 3:50 pm
Geez it seems like the Steelers are picking up a new running back every year and they always have a competent backup for when injuries occur. What the hell is wrong with that strategy? Barber and Dare are not good players and should never have been on the team. We need to get some actual threats behind Rojo.
January 11th, 2020 at 3:50 pm
Jones averaged 4.2 per carry despite numerous runs called back and an inability to block outside. Dude is definitely a MAJOR breakout candidate for next year. His improvement as a receiver was most impressive
January 11th, 2020 at 3:50 pm
Agree we need to upgrade at RB. I think ROJO is fine as our “big play” threat.
I do not wish to replace him but rather complement his running style with a TRUE power runner. Seems like Barber’s problem is he’s a tweener. Not fast or shifty enough to run like ROJO but not powerful enough to go “beast mode”.
Mad Max gave me this tip..
Patrick Taylor Jr, 6’3 227, Memphis….youtube him…i think maybe a 4th….under the radar, had an injury but has bounced back nicely.
January 11th, 2020 at 3:56 pm
Adam,
If that’s the case, then we need different linemen. But even then, I don’t know if BL is going to buck the scheme and run plays that put Rojo in a advantageous situation more than a play or two per game.
January 11th, 2020 at 4:05 pm
Stpetebucsfan,
A change of pace back makes so much sense it’s scary. A big powerful back who can breakthrough the first level is a requirement imo. If , big IF we can get a back like that , He will have a ton of success . The space existed this year and last for a RB to reel off 10+yards on a regular basis. We just didn’t have anyone who could take advantage. The kid from Memphis is good and he’d be a great fit.
January 11th, 2020 at 4:25 pm
When a team has a lead and both teams know they are running, this is completely on the offensive line to change/move the line of scrimmage, you can’t let defensive lineman push the offensive line into the backfield where the QB can barely get thee ball to the RB. Running out the clock with a lead is attitude because both teams know what you have to do.
January 11th, 2020 at 4:31 pm
Every time I drink soda I get the hiccups, it must be Jameis’ fault.
January 11th, 2020 at 4:56 pm
I’d love to see what he does with 20 – 25 carries a game.
January 11th, 2020 at 5:05 pm
First round pick should be a tier 1 offensive tackle.
January 11th, 2020 at 5:30 pm
@Joe … “Here’s the thing: It is nice to hope that, but in past years the Bucs have gotten themselves into a whole lot of trouble hoping things happened.”
Oh Joe, THAT’S a classic line. VHIII, Nassib, Martin, Spence … nice examples. Out of curiosity though, why didn’t you include Jameis in that group? As in HOPING that he’ll solve his turnover issue this year? BTW, I particularly like the part about the Bucs “have gotten themselves in a WHOLE LOT OF TROUBLE hoping things happened.” But hey, press on … surely Jameis will do better on turnovers THIS YEAR.
And as an aside Joe, watching the 49ers-Vikings game I decided something: Bucs offense would get eaten alive by either of those teams’ pass rush. There’s some awesome defense being played in that game. There’s no way to win in the playoffs nowadays without a top defense.
January 11th, 2020 at 5:42 pm
The “real” question is not the lack of running game and what to do, but why will Joe and the sheep not discuss the failed gm that is in his 7th OFFSEASON with no playoffs still here and making decision of anything, let alone the garbage stable of running backs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What happened to all the talk of accountability??????????????

Bucs need a #3 WR more than they need a RB.
Game 16 vs Falcons, Bucs have 136 yards on the ground with a 6.5 yard average and lose.
Brady has two really good RB’s in NE – but no depth at WR. They lost to the Dolphins…
I doubt Perriman is back and the Bucs have nothing but garbage behind Godwin and Evans and the offense dies if there’s no one to throw to since Arians doesn’t use his TEs.
As for RB, Jones is fine as a starter. Just get a legit 3rd down receiving back because Dare stinks. Or, hopefully, David Johnson is available and willing to accept a 1-year prove it, if so, then that’s an easy call.
January 11th, 2020 at 5:45 pm
That jimmy G. Interception looked just like Jameis’s pick week 15 by the MLB by the Texans Zach Cunningham. Just a great play by the MLB. It’s nice to see that it happens to other teams too.

Uh oh, you’re not allowed to say the defense makes good plays – you’re only allowed to say Jameis is a tard and broke every INT record in recorded history at all levels…
January 11th, 2020 at 6:05 pm
I’m convinced that the Bucs knew they didn’t have a whole lot at RB but had to make a firm decision to invest in the defense last off-season. They were looking at a last place overall defense and knew this team wasn’t going anywhere til that side of the ball improved. Remember, we didn’t have any CAP space.
Now that we got rid of McCoy and put quality pieces on that side of the ball we finally got some hope. They won’t need to invest so defensive heavy and can now focus some on the running game. I fully expect to sign or use a high draft pick on a RB. And probably a Tackle or Guard too.
January 11th, 2020 at 6:07 pm
you gotta be able to run a sweep with a pulling guard and a te, fb, etc…this is a professional nfl team last time i checked…
as a kid i watched tony dorsett and the cowboys live off this play for 5 yards on basically every carry…
rojo has enough speed to at least turn the corner, giving him an easy 5 yards, and if gaps aren’t controlled he potentially can do his one cut for a huge gain or a breakaway like he used to do in college…
he will break some if you run enough sweeps…
just sayin’

Leftwich is an idiot and believes in giving the thrid string less talented rb more carries than the best back on the team. Also it doesnt matter who gets the ball when the runs always come on the same three predictable formations and never hanf the ball off when the offense (and defense) are spread out.Just like it was on the defense in the past which appears to be much better now
..ITS COACHING!!!

Bucs sheep thinks the running game is all about getting a runningback and olineman
Doesnt work that way

You think out QB coach intern knows anything about run design concepts?

Trade OJ for a 2nd and 4th. Get both a RT and RB in the 2nd. Taylor from Wisc is my preference, but I also like the bruiser from Alabama Najee Harris. D-Line in the 1st and #3 receiver in the 4th. Look at Chase Claypool from Notre Dame. He is also great on punt and KO coverage. This is a deep draft for WR.
January 11th, 2020 at 6:44 pm
Wish the Glazers had the knowledge to hire John Lynch as GM, woulda been perfect.
Lynch has the unqie ability to build a complete team with no holes in it. Something Licht has failed miserably to do.
January 11th, 2020 at 6:47 pm
When we find a run blocking RT to play next to Alex Cappa….you will see some great production out of Rojo & Najee Harris next year…..
January 11th, 2020 at 6:51 pm
Adam,
I was a huge Dorsett fan growing up. You’re right that was a bread and butter play for the Cowboys. I have to agree with your opinion re giving Rojo additional carriers.
Problem is the scheme isn’t going to support anything other than an occasional sweep . It’s possible to increase the carries /attempts but it doesn’t work well within the scheme. So I don’t expect anything to change.
There’s also, no fullback, no tightends who excel at blocking and no linemen with the mobility required to run outside. This team is very narrowly constructed in terms of personnel. You don’t see Swiss army knife type of linemen. Positionally yes but not skill set wise. Ultimately, on occasion we can attack the perimeter. Successfully yes, but not regularly.
Again I will state a big strong RB who can break tackles and pass thru the first level would be a game changer. It would allow Rojo to be used more like you suggest and still exploit the scheme derived running plays.
January 11th, 2020 at 6:51 pm
“Bucs Guy Says:
January 11th, 2020 at 6:35 pm
Trade OJ for a 2nd and 4th. Get both a RT and RB in the 2nd.”
I really like OJ, but there isn’t anyone giving up a 2nd and 4th for him after this disaster of a season. Maybe there’s an outside chance of a late 2nd rounder, but I think it’s more likely just a 3rd rounder – and that’s probably it.
If they can get a 2nd and 4th, then they should take it. As for OJ I don’t really have any doubt he’ll bounce back – but in this offense, they just don’t use the TE much. BUT they can’t trade him in the division, because that would haunt the team for years.
January 11th, 2020 at 6:52 pm
Man watching this Vikings/49ers game makes me realize that the Bucs are closer then meets the eye. There is no way….no way we would let the 49ers run the ball as effectively as they our.
The Vikings are getting blown off the line and getting pushed around. That just don’t happen to our team. We would play the 49ers a lot closer then this.
January 11th, 2020 at 6:59 pm
D1 – David Johnson in this offense had over 1200 yards rushing and 800 yards under Arians.
I will say the offensive line is an issue to some extent – BUT if you combine Ronnie and Barber, you get 1200 yards rushing and 400 yards receiving (add in Dare and it’s 700 yards receiving).
David Johnson was mostly a one man show – and a top 3 RB in the NFL under Arians – but his production and this years Bucs production really wasn’t that much different. Rojo had the same average as David Johnson did in his big year (4.2), but the big difference was that David Johnson was a great pass catcher – and that’s something the Bucs haven’t had since getting rid of Charles Simms.
January 11th, 2020 at 7:01 pm
Adams from ny is correct about those sweeps.
But we don’t call them very often. Not sure what to think about our offensive run scheme from Leftwich / Goodwin, but overall it leaves a lot to be desired. It doesn’t seem very creative and that’s a travesty imo given all the playmakers we have on offense.
Gotta continue to upgrade the o-line if you want a better run game.
And don’t look now, but Rojo had a way better game against the Niners defense than his holiness Dalvin Cook is having today.
I know, today is playoff football, etc. just sayin.
January 11th, 2020 at 7:04 pm
@Rod
100% on O.J.
it’s a shame they’re just not interested in using him much as a pass catcher but for the love of god don’t let him go to another team in the NFC south.
Can you imagine what Sean Peyton would do with him?
January 11th, 2020 at 7:05 pm
JimmyJack – OJ had by far the worst game of his career that day, causing an INT and fumbling the ball at the 49ers 20 (if my memory serves me right). Even still the Bucs weren’t out of it until the angry ginger knocked down Dare on that final screen pass which caused the late INT for a TD.
In any case it was 17 years and 1 day ago when the Bucs destroyed the 49ers on their SB run (a run that saw Brad Johnson throw a 1st quarter INT in every game). That game was 31-6, but should have been 38-6 except for Rice took a very stupid PF on a Barber TD return.

January 11th, 2020 at 7:09 pm
Look at what Kittle is doing as a blocker. He is a huge part of why they are running the ball so well today. Get me a TE that can freaking do some of that.
They said OJ can do it and they lied.
Oh and I’ll tell you what Sean Payton wouldn’t do with OJ. He wouldn’t run him across the middle cause the guy clams up when their might be contact on a play.
A TE that can’t BL ck or go over the middle. That aren’t no football player where I come from.
January 11th, 2020 at 7:15 pm
Poor Rodney. We’ve been over this. That’s not at all what happened on that screen play.
You’re the only one making an excuse on that play for the QB. You dirt that play every time. Easiest read in football.
January 11th, 2020 at 7:15 pm
Chris Collinsworth was doing color in that 2003 Bucs/49ers playoff game and talked about how Barber would get picked on all-day by TO since Barber couldn’t cover him…
TO had 10 targets, 4 receptions for 35 yards.
Barber meanwhile had 4 tackles, 2 PDs, and an INT that was intended for TO.
January 11th, 2020 at 7:17 pm
JimmyJack – Are you still refusing to actually watch the play? Apparently so since that’s exactly what happened. The fact you continue to just repeat what you said 10 seconds after the play when there’s literal video evidence and Arians saying that isn’t what happened is a good summary of the Winston hating crowd (and apparently now the OJ hating crowd as well).
January 11th, 2020 at 7:25 pm
Rodney I watched that play several times……More times then I probably should have.
And don’t take my word for it. There’s not one person who breaks down all that One 22 stuff that thinks it wasn’t a good awful throw.
The simple fact that you don’t understand that when a screen play gets blown up the QBs job is to throw it into the dirt is actually quite appalling. Heck, I believe even the announcers say as much in the broadcast.
But hey continue being wrong……But also realize that the ball on that play was thrown 5 yards beyond the LOS. You do realize screen plays are designed to be thrown behind the line don’t you= awful throw awful decision.
January 11th, 2020 at 7:26 pm
Cousins on that last drive is what all the Winston haters want in Tampa – a guy that is down by 3 scores under 2 mins left and yet is afraid to throw the ball into the endzone because it might end up as an INT on his stat sheet. This is like Carr at the end of week 16, on 4th and goal at the 3, final play of the game, he throws it out of bounds. That’s what you do when you care more about your stats than you care about trying to win or make something happen – even in impossible situations.
January 11th, 2020 at 7:26 pm
That was visiting tage Will ston trying to make a play when theirs not one there to be made.
I will say I’m glad to see he doesn’t make those types of decisions as much anymore…….Seems more of his recent picks come from poor reads.
January 11th, 2020 at 7:27 pm
JimmyJack – OK then what happens to Dare on the play? Is he wiped out by Jensen or not? Just start there, will you give me that. Because in the past you said that didn’t happen.
January 11th, 2020 at 7:28 pm
I would like us to draft heavily along the OL, particularly at RT. Jones showed some serious flashes when given the chance and when holes opened up.
January 11th, 2020 at 7:34 pm
You might be lying about what I said. Not sure I don’t remember.
And I am certainly not rewatching the play again. Watched it at least a dozen times when we originally discussed it. Nothing you said changed my mind then and it certainly is not goning to change now.
You disagree whatever. I’ve heard quite a few breakdowns on that play since that day. You can stand all alone thinking a broken screen play being thrown 5 yards beyond the LOS was a good throw/decision.
January 11th, 2020 at 7:38 pm
Dare did get knocked off his route on that play vs the 9ers.
Maybe the Bucs lost some confidence losing that first game to the 9ers. Going in most the experts expected them (SF) to finish 5-7 wins. So the Bucs probably thought they were further away from being good than it seemed after that game.
January 11th, 2020 at 7:41 pm
We need to sign JW, Barnett, JPP, Suh and get a LT in the first and get a RB in the second let Barber and Dotson go
January 11th, 2020 at 7:42 pm
I’m back!!!!!!
See these games are proving my point over and over again. The ones that want Jameis gone are saying we don’t need 5,000 yards and 33 TD passes, we just need a guy that won’t give us TOs. Then my question time and time again is then how do we score? As you can see today when the Vikings could not run the ball their QB/ offense couldn’t score. When you can’t run the ball, like us, and you don’t have an elite thrower of the football you don’t score and you can’t win period end of story. Yes Jameis needs to cut out the presnap locking in interceptions buy not many people on the face of the Earth can make some of the throws Jameis can, and like it or not there is value in that. We have a special talent and you take your chances with that cause it is much much harder to win without special talent regardless of the possible risk of TOs.
January 11th, 2020 at 7:47 pm
Been watching film… OJ was in a funk all season long. First game to last. As bad as his pass catching was, his blocking was way worse. Getting a second for him… good luck. He put some BAD film up this season. He was the big contributor in many of the Bucs losses this year. I hate it because I LOVED the pick coming out but turns out he is a one trick pony. I hope he can shake off whatever he had this year but I’m really questioning him. I’m hoping that when Auclair was hurt, he was asked to do too much blocking and that messed him up but that seems a stretch. Very disappointing as he was a monster in shells for training camp. Maybe that lack of production at Alabama wasn’t an accident.

“JimmyJack Says:
January 11th, 2020 at 7:34 pm
You might be lying about what I said. ”
You said that Dare didn’t get knocked down, it didn’t happen – Winston just threw it up for grabs. That’s was the day after when I had just watched the all-22 and brought up what happened here, just before I heard Arians say that play wasn’t on Winston. Dare is going out, Jensen lays him out as Winston is releasing the ball. It wasn’t a broken play – Dare wasn’t on the ground as he’s making the throw. On the all-22 it’s clear as day, the ball was going where Dare was running. On the TV view it looks like he sails the ball, but there was supposed to be someone there, and they weren’t there.
I really don’t get why you choose that play as the hill to die on. Arians said it wasn’t on Winston and the film supports that – it wasn’t a busted play, it was a bang-bang play with the angry ginger f-ing it up.
January 11th, 2020 at 7:49 pm
And regarding the 9er’s.. Expectations kind of hurt this team. Most people really considered that a bad loss to a team they had to beat. Fans thought this should have been a beat down on the 9er’s. Turns out, they are likely the NFC champs. That loss looks much different now.

Especially once they got down two scores and were forced to throw. Not a circumstance that your gonna see a QB put up big points typically………Gotta think to pull off a win in that game you gonna have to win with defense keeping you in it……and yes, sorry but true, can’t have costly turnovers on offense

An honest question.
IF the Bucs decide to retain JW I will happily root for him and the Bucs. I shall disagree with the decision but once it’s made I’ll get on board.
So not to question your fanhood…but mine and others who simply have the OPINION that JW IS replaceable and we’d be better off has been repeatedly questioned.
As in…the haters will be really upset when JW wins a SB!
Will you be really upset if the Bucs cut bait and move on from JW. If they do and the next QB is a winner will YOU be upset. Or like me is your Bucs fandom far more important than who is under center.
In fairness I did read a couple of guys talking about cancelling tkts if JW is retained. I do NOT support that position.
As for me no matter which decision BA makes I’m on board.
January 11th, 2020 at 8:08 pm
Rod I’m not choosing as a hill to die on. We just see the play differently. I’m of the opinion with anyone I’ve heard breakdown the play that it was a broken screen play that needs to be thrown to the dirt. You can blame the lineman if you want but a RB not getting clear of the line happens in football. The QB gotta wait for the clear. Winston didn’t have time cause guys were in his face(again broken play) and he just throw it into the air.
If you disagree that’s your opinion. We obvisous will never agree on the play. But please don’t lable me as a Winston haters cause of it. That’s just silly.
January 11th, 2020 at 8:11 pm
In the 4th quarter of that game Cousins was so worried about people saying he choked in a big game that he refused to force the ball to try to get his team back into it. If he tries to force the ball down the field to get his team back into it and throws 2 fourth quarter INTs what is the narrative? That Kirk choked in a big game. So he just eats all those sacks.
BUT if he had forced the ball downfield, with Diggs and Thielen, he might have made some plays to get them back into the game.
What Cousins did is what Mike Glennon would do. Eat the ball, throw it out of bounds, only put up 10 points but not turn it over.
January 11th, 2020 at 8:12 pm
Kobe that’s not what happened though. When the top 2 receivers went down OJ got plenty of targets in the Texans game. He proceeded to have one of his worst days as a pro when we needed him the most.
OJ gave no reason to trust him as a reliable target for the Falcons game and I would not be shocked to learn thats the reason he only got 1 target.
January 11th, 2020 at 8:14 pm
Tnew- That’s what I was getting at earlier. The Bucs would have taken that loss better had they know that the 9ers were the best team in the NFC. Instead they thought they lost to a team that wasn’t very good. Tough mentally after the first game.
January 11th, 2020 at 8:14 pm
Considering I’m a season ticket holder and have been since Jameis was a 2 years old I think my fandom has a little more to do with the Bucs than any one player. To give you a little insight into me, which I don’t do often, I have bought one jersey in my life and that was a Michael Jordan jersey many many years ago. I know how people view me and yes I am a fan of Jameis as I have seen literally every snap he has taken since his first snap in college, but that was also true with Derrick Brooks, Warrick Dunn and many others but here I still am. To answer your question directly will I be pissed yes for awhile, because I believe it will hurt my team, but I will get over it and move on like I always do. I want Jameis here for one reason I BELIEVE HE IS THE BEST CHANCE FOR US TO WIN FOR A LET NG TIME. That is all I care about and that is what I always base my opinions on, nothing more nothing less.
January 11th, 2020 at 8:23 pm
Jimmy and Rod- It’s tough to say what happened on that screen pass other than the Rb has to realize the importance of getting to that spot because the Qb has to throw it early. Maybe Jameis should have just tucked it away and taken the sack.
A interception everybody blames Jameis and I think it was clearly not 100% his fault is the wk16 pick6 vs the Falcons. Dotson got blown back and allowed his guy to tip that pass. It not only took velocity off the ball but redirected it to the inside toward the cb who broke on the route.
January 11th, 2020 at 8:26 pm
NDog- Well said. I feel the same way.
January 11th, 2020 at 8:29 pm
They need to bench Lamar – he just lost the game throwing a 1st quarter, 1 possession INT. That’s unacceptable, RG3 needs to be in this game if they’re to have any chance.

OMG how can you guys talk about anything other than that INT by Jackson!?! That’s the worst thing I’ve ever seen in my life!!!!! An INT in the playoffs?!?! The game is over, he literally just lost the game!!!!!!!!…. !!!!!!
January 11th, 2020 at 8:33 pm
Stanglassman
Didn’t see you’re post until I had replied to NDOG. But I’ll pass along the same respect if you feel the same way.
I know I probably get on guys nerves using so many musical references but…
Dave Mason had a great song back in the late 70’s.
We just disagree…but we’re all still on the same team of fans.
January 11th, 2020 at 8:35 pm
STanglass… yep, plus then the Bucs had the missed FG vs the Giants and the 6 week road trip. That was a really tough start.
And guys on that screen pass. Ultimately, that is Winston’s responsibility as it is his throw, but I watched the All 22 on that 20+ times to figure out WTH what was going on. I think Arians was trying to protect Leftwich on a horrible play call or 6-7 Bucs just messed up. I wish I could screen shot that at the time of the throw… Watching OJ and the WR’s they aren’t running routes to set up a screen pass. They are bringing attention to that area of the field.
January 11th, 2020 at 8:37 pm
Sorry not play call.. play design
January 11th, 2020 at 8:37 pm
“JJ
I’m not sure you know but OJ us our best RAC reciever
Give him the ball on the LOS and let the defenders try to bring down a 6 6 250 lb man that runs 4.5 forty
Just a plain old little screen to the TE but instead Brainless trys to complete 20 yard completions with OJ
Peeps must have bad memories but OJ has shown all pro skillset and production for 2 years before BA/BL Twins
Patriots and Bellichick knows more than Gump or any of us

Rodney,
Interesting point about D. Johnson vs our RB’S combined totals. You’re spot on about DJ.s pass catching ability. That’s something that I believe, key word believe, Rojo can eventually develop and provide the team. A RB who is a receiving threat. If not, then we someone who can.
The conversation with Adam and his suggesting that the team use Rojo on sweep type plays . I was thinking about it in terms of personnel and scheme.
And in both of those , there’s problems. We don’t have the personnel to run it as a bread and butter play. That’s where the oline comes into the conversation.
Then there’s the scheme . Quite simply this scheme doesn’t attack the field in the way that supports running sweeps with any frequency. That’s why I suggested a power back as the best solution. (I’m really thinking about what you said about Johnson and how his production is basically comparable to our current committee approach. Again, solid info you brought to the table. )
imo, a power back could take advantage of the scheme. Running sweeps is going against the scheme . But to do the former we have to add that type of player. To do the latter requires multiple players and a modification to the scheme. I side with the option with less moving parts.
Let me ask you this, are you satisfied with our current RB’S? Oline?
January 11th, 2020 at 8:44 pm
I’ll chime in on that screen play. That was on Jameis as you have to see it develop and not just blindly throw it in that situation. But I will say this, we are running a screen to freaking Dare to try to start off a game winning drive when we have Evans, Godwin, OJ, Jones, Brate or Perriman. He should have been literally the last option on that play call. Again no excuse for the throw but really Dare then?
January 11th, 2020 at 8:44 pm
OMG AN OPENING INT THAT LEADS TO A TD!!!!
LAMAR IS THE WORST QB IN THE NFL!!!!
THIS GAME IS OVER!!!!
January 11th, 2020 at 8:49 pm
Lamar Jackson is heavy favorite to win 2019 MVP
Going to demand over $35 mill in 2 years
Lol can you imagine this slingshot pea shooter under BAs offense?
January 11th, 2020 at 8:52 pm
Ok… re looked at the screen pass again.. I would love to ask Winston about this, I don’t think he’s throwing the screen… Go back and watch. At the time of the throw, Evans looks like he is releasing into that area, he really looks like he is carrying his route there, still on Winston, but I understand the throw better if that was what he saw.

It wasn’t blindly throwing the ball – he’s already in the motion of throwing the ball as Jensen is knocking down Dare. It’s not like Winston saw him get knocked down and threw it anyways.
You’re not a Winston basher so if you have the all-22 and have a chance to see it again and disagree, let me know and I’ll go back and watch it for the 100th time and try to see what everyone else is seeing.
But I will agree that Dare should not be in the NFL. If they want to upgrade the RB position, the 3rd down back is where they have to get an upgrade.
January 11th, 2020 at 8:56 pm
LAMAR HAS SINGLE HANDEDLY RUINED FOOTBALL IN BALTIMORE!!!! HE THREW A FIRST QUARTER INT AND THAT’S TOO MUCH FOR ANY TEAM TO OVERCOME!!!! HE’S TERRIBLE, I HATE HIM, I’M SO TRIGGERED!!!! RG3 HAS TO ENTER THE GAME RIGHT NOW!!!! THE SEASON IS OVER!!! THE DECADE IS RUINED!!!!
January 11th, 2020 at 8:58 pm
Love me some NDOG! I feel the same brother. I see something special in Jameis. I played the game and have watched a ton of football myself, and have also been a season ticket holder since 2013. We just can’t give up on the man yet. We are so close guys to turning the corner just don’t give up yet. I will always root for the Bucs no matter who is on the field but hate seeing when we run people out of town so quick. I’m going to leave my judgement to coach Arians. I ultimately think he will make the right decision. Go Bucs! Go Jameis!
January 11th, 2020 at 9:08 pm
Does anyone doubt the ravens will come back to win this game?
January 11th, 2020 at 9:14 pm
BTW, I agree with NDOG on what he said about Winston as well. I’m not backing Winston just for the fun of triggering the anti-Winston dopes – I’m backing Winston because I think he can win a lot of games for us and if he’s not here, it means another half decade “rebuild.”
Short of talking Luck coming out of retirement, there’s not a better option out there – and even with Luck I wouldn’t be sure he’s not going to retire after game 3 if he has a bad day.
Winston doesn’t give a care – he’s there’s to score points and chew bubble gum, and he’s all out of bubble gum. He’s a gunslinger, and that means he’s going to make good plays and make bad plays – but he’s going to score points.
People are pretending like 30 INTs is his norm – which is stupid since he’s never thrown more than 18 before and that was in his 2nd season. Winston just threw for more than 5000 yards and had 33 TDs and the offense was the 3rd highest scoring in the NFL. Those are all – by far- team records. You know what wasn’t a team record, what wasn’t even close to a team record – that was the INTs.
If you’re a Bucs fan, you’ve seen nothing but horrific God awful QB play. The best QB in team history prior to Winston was probably Doug Williams – a guy who threw a ton of INTs, but without the yards and TDs. Next on that list is probably Testaverde… who threw a lot of INTs, but without the TDs and yards.
If you know your Bucs history you know how amazing it is to actually have a top offense year in and year out. The team has never seen anything like this – and people want to run him out of town because Ryan Smith and Chris Conte were giving up 35 points a game year after year after year.
Winston, next year, will cut his INT’s down into the 16-18 range – if he doesn’t, if he throws 30 again, then he won’t be here after that. But you’re not throwing away the 25-year old who is the NFL’s leading passer -that’s literally would be the dumbest move in franchise history unless they had some blockbuster announcement (like Luck untiring and being traded).

GIVE IT A REST!!!!! YOU CAN’T WIN IF YOU THROW A 1ST QUARTER INT!!! IT’S IMPOSSIBLE!!!!
Fun fact: Brad Johnson threw a 1st quarter INT in every playoff game in 2002/03….
January 11th, 2020 at 9:16 pm
Now you watch. If the Ravens to one and done people will question Lamar Jackson. Maybe not nationally but at least within the Ravens fanbase. You’ve gotta be able to make some throws to win a title.
Still a lot of football in this game but so far. Not impressed by Lamar. Not at all.
January 11th, 2020 at 9:19 pm
Stangglass…..I’ll doubt it. Maybe Jackson just got some nerves and will settle in. But right now he does not look like a good enough passer. And he gonna need to make more then a few plays it they coming back down 2 scores…….That or the defense better score.
January 11th, 2020 at 9:19 pm
Wobbly throws….
Not impressed with any playoff qbs.
The differences is defenses stop. Teams win
January 11th, 2020 at 9:22 pm
A lot of you are feeling warm and fuzzy for Winston.
January 11th, 2020 at 9:24 pm
Using anti-Winston math I’ve seen at least 37 passes that should have been intercepted today.
January 11th, 2020 at 9:27 pm
I’ll take Winston in a playoff game. He will sling it. He will take is shots. Not like all this dink and donkey little passes. Or like the crappy 49ers motioning 1000 times.
January 11th, 2020 at 9:29 pm
Fun fact: The Baltimore Ravens were the most unbalanced team in football this year.
1st in running
27th in passing
The Buccaneers were a more balanced team (1st in passing, 24th in rushing).
January 11th, 2020 at 9:32 pm
What the heck is wrong with the Tenn coaching staff that last 5 years making Henry a part time back? Finally the coach is feeding the beast.
Rodney- Exactly. I think most of the People who are trying to run Jameis out of town starting watching the Bucs in 2001-2. They didn’t watch Doug overthrow WRs ten yards in front of him 6 feet over their heads. Vinny continually throw to the wrong team only to find out the guy couldn’t tell the uniforms apart due to his colorblindness. Then the string of bad Qbs like Dilfer in the 90s. Set back 5 years is being optimistic.
January 11th, 2020 at 9:32 pm
Funny because I do not accept the results of the Tennesse game. I consider it a Bucs win and consider is 8-8. Had we not been cheated Tennessee don’t have enough wins to qualify for the playoffs.

What if it’s the stupid 2010 Packers all over again…
The Bucs lose the Lions game on a BS offensive PI call that the NFL says is a BS call. That loss means the Packers have the tiebreaker and they get the #6 seed and win the SB. Because of that stupid Aaron Rodgers gets all those God damn discount double check commercials that we’re still plagued with all today. All because the refs f’ed us.
Also, in 2010, the Bucs go into the playoffs as one of, if not THE, hottest team in football. Who isn’t to say they themselves don’t go on a run. Regardless, even if they lose in the wildcard game, it’s extremely unlikely that Raheem is getting fired the next year. If Raheem isn’t fired maybe Freeman isn’t driven to drugs by Schiano…
The domino effect of that BS call is remarkable. Who knows, maybe even Winslow, with playoff fame, doesn’t end up breaking into trailers to feel up 70-year old women.
January 11th, 2020 at 9:45 pm
Tenn came in tonight with a great game plan and attitude but I’d still take the Ravens. Making Lamar throw it outside and containing the rushing yards.
It must be nice to have the best kicker in the game, great run production and defense.
January 11th, 2020 at 9:46 pm
remember the Titans!!! Man i hope they take out Baltimore….hate that s-hole city….was hoping the other s-hole city team sanfran would be out too, but oh well. I Like Lynch though and what he’s doing there.

The Butterfly Effect. No matter how you play it out Winslow always ends up with lube in hand in the Walmart parking lot.
January 11th, 2020 at 10:02 pm
I love how on every incomplete pass from Jackson according to these announcers, it’s a drop or a great play by the corner regardless if the ball is high, behind or to low. We all know with 100% certainty that if this was our QB throwing these crappy passes, these announcers would be saying that it is simply inaccurate passes that is causing the offense to be stagnant.
January 11th, 2020 at 10:10 pm
Tannehill back to back games with 75+yards passing 1td 1int will most likely sign 90m
Garoppolo 137yds 1td 1int signed 137M
Wow.
January 11th, 2020 at 10:14 pm
Man, that Ten D line is stout!! Jeffrey Simmons has surprised me. I knew he wouldve been top 10 if it werent for his incident but he’s playing like a top 3 DT pick.

January 11th, 2020 at 10:28 pm
How is Quinton Flowers not in the NFL as a QB. He was a better college QB than Lamar, has as good of an arm but is an even better runner. He’s on the Vipers as a RB, but if they want to sell any tickets, they need to announce him as the starting QB.
Speaking of which plenty of good seats still available for the Vipers…
January 11th, 2020 at 10:37 pm

January 11th, 2020 at 10:41 pm

January 11th, 2020 at 10:42 pm
You’re welcome for Jon Robinson Tennessee. All those great drafts are paying off.
January 11th, 2020 at 10:44 pm
Keep in mind Jameis put up 301 yards passing, 53 yards rushing and 2 passing TDs against this same Titans defense ON THE ROAD. And most importantly the offense put up 23 points with Jameis as the leading rusher that day. Just keep that in mind when thinking about what they are doing today to the league MVP on the road. But I know I know we can get just anyone to win with at QB.
January 11th, 2020 at 10:45 pm
Two words ladies, Drew Brees. The Saints owe him $21.3 million dead money and he can sign with any team. The Bucs have the best receivers. Bring back D line. Draft a OT and RB and win the Super Bowl. Pay Brees $35 million and you will sell out ever single game, I promise.

Just so I understand…I watched the Tampa Bay Lightning win their 10th in a row against the stinkin’ Flyers in Philly not the football game
Lamar Jackson…widely reported to be the MVP of the NFL this year has a horrible game…ONE horrible game…and he’s being compared to a guy who has yet to smell the playoffs?
Did any of you guys see Cincinnati last year?
If JW stays I hope he plays lights out…but you guys embarrass yourselves in the continual belief that chopping up your neighbor’s furniture somehow makes your’s look better. When JW gets us a first round buy and wins an MVP then the comparisons will be appropriate.
In fact at this point I’d simply settle for ten wins and a wild card game.
January 11th, 2020 at 10:52 pm
Someone here doesn’t get sarcasm…
January 11th, 2020 at 10:52 pm
Pay Brees 35 million he gets injured after a few games then retires then what? Watch Jameis take the Bears to the Super Bowl a bunch of times. Yeah great idea.
January 11th, 2020 at 10:53 pm
Sign Brees or Brady, draft Love and ease him in for the future….oh yeah, that would be awesome!!!!
January 11th, 2020 at 10:54 pm
Adrnagy,
Bruh, Licht is way too stupid to sign Brees. You have to hire me first, and I’ll sign him lol
January 11th, 2020 at 10:55 pm
Stpete there is no chopping anyone it’s just pointing to the reality of what we have, which many want to let walk out the door. People act like Jackson is better than Jameis and for our offense that is flat out ridiculous. That is the point our offense is Jameis, Evans and Godwin, all 3 of them not just the WRs and everyone acts like that is not true.
January 11th, 2020 at 10:55 pm
Brees has been injured once since he became a Saint. 30 teams overlooked him after shoulder surgery and look at history. He’s the best and a true leader.
January 11th, 2020 at 10:56 pm
Jameis sucks. I wouldn’t pay him 10
January 11th, 2020 at 10:58 pm
No dude, you sign Tom Brady AND Drew Brees and let them battle it out for the starting job in preseason. The Bucs have $90m in cap space, they can make it happen.
January 11th, 2020 at 11:00 pm

I feel bad for Lamar. 14 wins 14 great games and the most important game he blows it up. In front of his home fans. National tv.
At least with Winston I’m used to it every game. It doesn’t hurt no more. I’m healing right now off season.
January 11th, 2020 at 11:07 pm
Brees is 41 years old. History is the KEY word in your sentence.
January 11th, 2020 at 11:17 pm
It’s not just Lamar the entire team has been blowing it tonight
January 11th, 2020 at 11:18 pm
Brees isn’t leaving NO so there’s no reason to argue about it. But if the Bucs were going to dump Winston – which I don’t believe for a second is happening – then sure, go sign Brees for a year… or Brady… or Luck.

Yeah, the receiver tipping the ball in the air for the INT, then on the next series having what, 2 big passes dropped? Then the defense gives up 200 yards to Henry…
That’s a team loss if there ever was one.
January 11th, 2020 at 11:23 pm
Rodney. It remind me of my team this year. The buccaneers
January 11th, 2020 at 11:26 pm
none of this is brain surgery. start with the line. the better the ol and dl the better the team. look at the teams in the playoffs. Strong in the trenches. Whoda thunk the Titans would be here, but look at their OL. We need to start now to rebuild the right way. OL and DL and forget about paying the QB and drafting a RB.
January 11th, 2020 at 11:27 pm
Wouldn’t it be something if Tannehill goes to Miami for the super bowl. And next year Winston goes to Tampa with another team.
January 11th, 2020 at 11:28 pm
They need more crowd shots – I want to see those fans crying as they realize that not only did their team get blown out at home, they’re surrounded by rats.
January 11th, 2020 at 11:31 pm
Scheme & Personnel…
Scheme: The Bucs, like many other NFL franchises, have fallin’ into the pass happy 60-40 Football Entertainment “Fantasy Football Stats” mindset of “modern” football… Until the organization/FO/Coaching staff make a real commitment to creating a culture of physicality & mental toughness in the trenches…Commits to being a more balanced offense, whether that be as a play-action or RPO team…It’s just not going to happen.
OL Personnel: 2019 personnel made progress, over 2018..& is getting close to being as formidable as any other roster in the NFL… But it’s still missing that Alpha Dog that sets the tone. Smith/Marpet/Jensen/Cappa are all capable, but Dotson is degrading fast. Would love to see an upgrade @ RT either in FA (Daryl Williams)…Or bring Dotson back on a team friendly 1yr/$4-5M & dip into the draft for RT that can take over by mid-way through the 2020 season. (This a good draft for RT…Loaded w/ potential starter quality players.)
January 11th, 2020 at 11:33 pm
The Ravens were the top rushing team in football…
They lost because of their #27th ranked passing offense…
January 11th, 2020 at 11:38 pm
Absolutely it wasn’t all on Lamar Jackson BUT if our QB gets blamed for everything that goes wrong in a game then Jackson should get blamed for it all to right, right??????
January 11th, 2020 at 11:40 pm
Really Rod?
The Ravens lost because their secondary gave up 88 yards passing?
Not because Henry ran for 195?
Or because Jackson (who threw for over 350 and ran for 143) threw two picks and fumbled once?
Are you serious?
January 11th, 2020 at 11:42 pm
Gotta be able to run the ball and not turn it over.
That’s one thing that’s not changing in the NFL anytime soon.
Very, very simple.
January 11th, 2020 at 11:42 pm
@Rod, yeah thats a s-hole city. I drove a big rig 10 years ago and went there and Hagerstown a lot….about as dumpy as they comes outside of the rich areas.
January 11th, 2020 at 11:43 pm
Eliot , can I add the receivers not dropping passes ?
January 11th, 2020 at 11:43 pm
Man we suck
January 12th, 2020 at 12:03 am
@Joe
It’s hilarious to me that you have so many problems with hooe, in terms of a running game. But you have zero problems hoping that America’s turnover machine will somehow fix his inability to use his brain in crucial moments. It’s beyond the definition of insanity.
We could have drafted Derrick Henry in 2016, but chose the now gone DE Noah Spence instead. That was another brilliant move by the same guy that brought us Jamoist “I be ballin” Winston.
The problem is the GM. Plain and simple. And I fear he’s going to hammer in the death nail of the franchise by signing Jamoist to a long term contract.
Save for the Browns, we’re the biggest laughing stock in the NFL.
January 12th, 2020 at 12:11 am
ElioT… uh, the #27th passing offense was a direct reference to Lamar… and his receivers who were dropping everything, and when that wasn’t happening, they were tipping it in the air for an INT.
They are a team that did run it all year, 1000 yards more than the 2nd best rushing offense, but they couldn’t run it today – or didn’t.
As such… their #27th ranked passing offense lost the day – along with that defense that couldn’t stop Henry.
January 12th, 2020 at 12:28 am
Asking a QB to drop back and throw 59 times and the RB’s producing only 44 yards = 2 Ints and fumble lost by QB.
January 12th, 2020 at 12:30 am
@Rod, My apologies, I misread your post and thought you were referencing the Ravens passing defense. – I meant no disrespect.
Still, Lamar threw for 365, rand for 143 – I get there were dropped passes, all QBs deal with that as well as receivers running “wrong routes”.
Titans won behind a beastly running game, and a QB that has thrown for less than 100 yards in back to back playoff wins.
Running game is important. It always will be, especially in the playoffs.
What’s also equally as important is a QB who doesn’t turn the ball over three times in a game.
Disclaimer – I hope the Bucs bring Winston back in 2020.
I’m just commenting .
January 12th, 2020 at 12:34 am
Raven’s go 0-3 on 4th down tries = 3 turnovers plus the 3 turnovers from QB = 6 turnovers.
January 12th, 2020 at 12:45 am
ElioT – Yeah, no problem. But I wasn’t blaming Lamar alone, he didn’t have a great game, but he got no help from the rest of his team – or his coaches. You have the top rushing offense yet you abandon the run early. Plus going for that 4th and 1 early in the 3rd when you’re only down 14-6, was insanely stupid playcalling.
January 12th, 2020 at 12:53 am
NDOG,
I believe your understating the situation when you say winston, Evans and Godwin is our offense. Winston is the team . In fact, it’s accurate to state winston is the single most important and influential individual in the organization with the exception of the Glazer’s.
The folks who wish to jettison winston immediately, There’s something that no one is discussing. It’s not 5000 yds and 30 TD’S nor is it 30 picks , 100 pick sixs, 387 fumbles or something that happened off the field that falls under the broad range of character issues.
January 12th, 2020 at 2:25 am

January 12th, 2020 at 3:35 am
RoJo is a cheat code. We saw it a few times this year. 1.) Turnovers and pick Six’s caused and getting behind early has taken the running game out of the game plan. 2.) This Oline let him get hit behind the line of scrimmage too many times or not pulling for him on sweeps. With an improved Oline and a QB that can cut his turnovers down and get out ahead early watch Rojo Flourish because he is definitely Electric! 1more thing Rojo’s 1st year playing for Koetter should not be held against him. That being said I think we add a veteran like a Latavius Murray or Jerrick McKinnon if he is recovered from his knee injury. Also , Austin Ekeler if he is the odd man out in SAN Diego or the kidd backing up Chubb in Cleveland, cant remember his name right now, was drafted by Andy Reid in KC.

I think jones is one of those RBS that need a decent hole to open up from his oline n then hes gone. We need another that can pound the rock between the tackles n then we’re golden n bet jws picks drop ( his yards and attempts will too) that’s what we need one more big olinemen n another big rb

Don’t you HOPE that Jameis will stop throwing picks? Hope, can indeed be a dangerous word.

Imagine if the Bucs had an actual running game? Do you see the Titans formula? Do you actual think Jameis would throw for 30 INTs if he had a real running back? No

Or maybe Jackson does not turn the ball over 3 times if he is not asked to throw 59 passes with his RBs only producing 42 yards.

In spite of the overall poor production from the RB’s, keep in mind missed FG’s & stupid mistakes by QB the Bucs would have been in the playoffs.

We need to stop thinking Jameis will ever be anywhere close to pik free. Let us move on and buy O-line, get Eason in round one late, get a running back also as we will have an additional pik from trading down. SO MANY OPTIONS WHEN WE LET WINSTON WALK sad but true!
probably change my mind tomorrow.
