Showtime For Kwon
January 11th, 2020When former Bucs Pro Bowler Kwon Alexander played for the 49ers this season, the team allowed 11 points per game through their first seven contests.
After 25-year-old Alexander’s season-ending pectoral injury, the 49ers gave up 21 points per game the rest of the way.
Joe’s not saying there’s an absolute connection, but Joe has heard many 49ers analysts go there. And that makes Alexander’s surprising return today extra interesting.
Inspired by J.J. Watt’s return from a similar injury, Alexander has defied the odds and the initial prognosis. He is off injured reserve and will play today as the 49ers host the Vikings at 4:35 p.m.
A homegrown Buccaneer in the playoffs. How about that!
That doesn’t happen too often, and Adam Humphries (Titans) doesn’t count since he’s hurt (ankle) and didn’t make his playoffs debut last weekend and won’t play tonight against the Ravens.
Joe wonders how history will view the Bucs getting rid of Alexander. He was coming off a blown knee that included ACL surgery last season. Joe was not in favor of paying the guy massive cash coming off that injury. And Joe felt the “quarterback” and “heart and soul” of a garbage Bucs defense was expendable.
But Joe’s not about to wager today on Devin White having a better career than Alexander. Too early for that.
Joe wishes Kwon well. Despite his foolish rookie suspension in 2015, Kwon gave everything he had to the Bucs in his four seasons. History won’t ever disagree with that.
He’s baaaaack🔥🔥🔥 https://t.co/gouknPeP1z

Loved Kwon but he was expendable as our defense truly elevated this season, I’m sure he would have thrived in it though, he was a straight dawg, maybe if we didn’t prioritize Donovan Liability Smith we’d still have that Boi Kwon…

Moved on last season when he was signed to the 49ers team. Good luck to him with his new team. I am a part of his Tattoo on his back. My wife and our friends where sitting behind the goal post at that game he dedicated to his brother. I can see us in that tattoo. Hats off to you for your loss.

Kwon was a decent player, Devin will be great.

I love his energy.
I love his passion
I love his old school kind of playing.
On the other side of the coin he was a missing takles machine.

He better hope he doesn’t get exposed on national TV, has a tendency to over pursue and like Zbuc said mis tackles.

I am completely fine with White over Kwon. I think the future will show that even more substantially. Kwon was a good player. White does a chance to be great.

Couch fan, just saw your comment. Obviously I agree.

One mans lost..not necessarily his garbage..is another mans.. win and surely treasure. Kwon fits in well with the 9ers. Its all about team chemistry and how they play together. Good Luck to him.

Congrats to Kwon ! Got paid and is in the playoffs…. Can’t wait til we are in the playoffs

“Joe was not in favor of paying the guy massive cash coming off that injury.”
Agree 100%. In addition it seemed as if at times Kwon did have trouble staying on the field although in fairness I might be including the stupid suspension. So I do not wish to label him as fragile. All NFL players with perhaps the exception of Suh and Donovan miss games due to injury. But I get that he would have produced for us WHEN he played…greatest ability is availability
Kwon is fine but he’s not better than LVD or White.

I hope both Kwon and Lynch both get taken out of the playoffs today! I don’t give two spits about either one since they are no longer a Buc!

Kwon was good but nothing special and certainly not worth what the Niners paid him. I’m happy for him that he cashed in but I think that Devin is already a better player. Devin had a knack for making big plays this year and if it continues next year, we may have a great player on our hands.

So much hype for a guy who is injured all the time.
I hope SF enjoyed paying him all that money and his backup was just as good.

When I look down all I see is my belly, it must be Jameis’ fault.

IT’s amazing how wrong people on this board are about most everything – they’re either idiots or just ignorant about football – likely, both.
Before getting injured Kwon was being called the 49ers MVP. I said this last offseason when the idiots on this board were saying Kwon sucked and would be a bust, but in reality he’s a guy that will year in, year out, make the pro-bowl and make the occasional all-pro team. I stand by that.
With that said, I think White has the same ability and was about as safe of a pick as there was in the draft, and so far he’s looking like he’s going to live up to that billing and should be a pro-bowl’er next year and eventually make an all-pro team.
So it’s basically a wash with the two – but the question is do you want a wash using the #5 pick in exchange for $8m a year – and that number goes down each year as well…
Overall I liked the White pick, it was a safe pick, but think if you had White, Kwon and David and the Bucs still ran a 4-3… that would be an insane group of guys with great speed, coverage ability, and rush ability. But in a 3-4, you have David, White, JPP and Shaq – and you really can’t complain about that.

typically Suckaneers..
for once they drafted a good guy, and then
they resign the bust Donnovan Smith,
which was such a BS draft pick by Sucking GM ..,
but they let their good value pick KwonAlexander walk…
creating another hole at LB position…
no clue of building a winning team
I have seen this coming since ever
i have posted all preseason about the clownshow called Suckaneers
start to boycot this clownshow if you want an actuall profesionell football team called Buccaneers
FIRE LICHT TONIGHT!!!

@Rod … “So it’s basically a wash with the two”. Beg to disagree Rod because they play different positions. Devin is a MUCH better MLB. Kwon played strongside LB at LSU & the Bucs insisted on moving him to MLB. Not his strong suit. Notice that John Lynch figured that out lickety-split and Kwon’s playing outside again … and looking much better than he did at MLB.
Bucs have insisted on doing that with a number of our draft picks for some unknown reason. Ryan Smith? MJ Stewart? Mike Edwards? I keep waiting for us to draft a TE then have him put on about 50 lbs so he can play Guard.

This clown of a GeneralManager Jason Licht has no clue of building a winning team,
since him: the Suckaneers suck at talent evaluation and roster-building

for example:
resigning a guy who should never been drafted..
such a wasted draft pick and wasted money >>DonovanSmith
instead
cutting a good draft pick who turned into a pro bowler
>>>KwonAlexander, BenettMichael…
>>creating need at LB spot, while retaining garbage Smith hahahaha
typicall Suckaneers moves..

We beat the 49ers without Jameis’ 2 pick-6s. That set the course for the whole year.
