The Bad Jameis
January 9th, 2020The clock is ticking as shot-callers gather inside a conference room daily at One Buc Palace.
Mounds of paper loaded with all sorts of data graffiti litter the freshly waxed conference table. Empty pizza boxes are stacked in the corners of the room. Large coffee mugs in front of everyone filled to the brim.
Why? To determine the future of Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, and the direction of the franchise itself.
Jenna Laine of ESPN recently broke down both the good and the bad of Jameis. Here is the good.
Now, for the bad.
Winston struggled more with short passes in 2019 than he has in the past, which you could see early in games. In 2018, he completed 75% of his passes on throws 10 yards or fewer downfield, with a 1.8 touchdown-to-interception ratio (nine touchdowns, five interceptions).
In 2019, his completion percentage on such throws dropped to 66%, with a 1.2 touchdown-to-interception ratio (16 touchdowns, 13 interceptions). He was 28th in the league on these throws in 2019 (league average is 70%). It should also be noted nearly half (13) of Winston’s 30 interceptions this year came on distances traveling less than 10 air yards down the field, with 20 coming on plays of 15 or fewer air yards.
Winston struggled more under duress and when hit in 2019, where he completed 45.2% of his passes (14th in the league) and threw eight touchdowns and five interceptions. In 2018, he was one of the best quarterbacks in this department from an accuracy standpoint, completing 56.8% of his passes, throwing five touchdowns and three interceptions.
Winston also spent more time in the pocket (2.46 seconds per throw) in 2019 than he did in any of his previous years (his best mark was in 2016, at 2.38). This could be a function of working in a new offense and subsequently taking longer in his progressions. There were a few instances where Arians said Winston needed to be more decisive with the ball and holding onto it resulted in sacks.
With Jameis it is always something. He turned into one of the best deep-ball throwers this year but his short game went to hell. One year he needs better footwork and when he has that solved, something else goes wrong.
It never seems to end with Jameis. Fix one thing and another pothole opens up to fill.
Joe has long maintained there isn’t another quarterback out there expected to be available in free agency as good as Jameis. If the haters can get past one friggin’ number, Jameis is one of the NFL’s best.
So do you downgrade and get a quarterback who doesn’t fit Arians’ offense? (To get an idea of the quarterback Arians needs, listen to Carson Palmer’s breakdown of Jameis.)
Or do the Bucs do what former NFL general manager Michael Lombardi said recently on his podcast “GM Shuffle?” Lombardi said Jameis’ good is so good you just learn to live with the picks.
Joe’s convinced many fans don’t have the stomach for Jameis’ thrilling roller coaster.
Sort of like kids who get off rides at the fair and toss their guts on the loading ramp, all the Cokes and popcorn and elephant ears. Once was enough for them as they sit at picnic tables and watch the other kids load up on another fun ride while they stay parked in the safe shade.

Sixth year baby-steps; next one is getting down to 24 picks in a season.
January 9th, 2020 at 8:05 am
Bye Bye Jameis!!!! AMEN!!!
January 9th, 2020 at 8:09 am
Pretty amusing how you actually have the names marked for moderation.
Don’t. Yet another wrong assumption you have. — Joe
January 9th, 2020 at 8:11 am
As Chris Simms said, referring to Winston (and posted here in JBF)…”STUPID”
January 9th, 2020 at 8:11 am
Suddenly a massive amount of interceptions is deemed acceptable and should be overlooked? This idea there’s just no QB out there either in the draft or FA that can be picked up that’s better. That’s absolutely crazy! Its just stunning to hear this garbage. It’s a quitters mentality.
January 9th, 2020 at 8:17 am
us haters just cant get past that one friggin number- #of wins
yep, i’m a hater.
January 9th, 2020 at 8:18 am
fact is one of the joe’s just can’t admit he’s been wrong all these years. some people…
January 9th, 2020 at 8:25 am
hey, lets keep Madonna out of the football convo.
January 9th, 2020 at 8:25 am
“It never seems to end with Jameis. Fix one thing and another pothole opens up to fill.”
Sums up the 30-30 Man in a nutshell…
January 9th, 2020 at 8:28 am
As an old poster used to say: “dumb as a bag of hammers”.
January 9th, 2020 at 8:28 am
Jameis is like the Bible. Interpretation of his stat details is always up to who is reading and what they want you to think. He is capable with talent better than most. Some say he is not smart in decision making and others say he is too smart and is thinking too much for other players on the field about what they should do. He has to be resigned because of talent with protections for poor performance. Every QB starter will be making 25-30 million unless they are on a rookie deal. Beyond the top 3 rookies, talent is poor usually. Don’t waste draft capital on poor talent. #sign3
January 9th, 2020 at 8:30 am
^^^and so is Robert. He must be the owner of one of the watering holes (or possibly even a strip bar) that the retard attends. Afraid to lose that cash income.
January 9th, 2020 at 8:37 am
cannot wait to hear what jameos1o1 has to say about this from jenna. I wish jameis would have become that stud qb everyone thought he would become but he has not since his 3rd year at fsu and it is what it is and he will be this way on whatever team he is on next year; hope bucs know they have already seen the ending to this movie
January 9th, 2020 at 8:41 am
In an earlier post Joe had quoting Jenna Laine, she points out all the reasons Jameis is staying. How do you dump a QB who threw for over 5,000 yards and 30 TDs? Do you not understand the significance of that stat? If it was easy to accomplish throwing for 5000 yards, why are there not more QBs doing it? What, are we going to sign Bridgewater or Dawson to do that? Maybe drafting Love or Tua – yeah, I can see them managing this offense. No, wait, 42 yo BRADY!!!
Last year, Jameis/Bucs were average in the red zone. In 2019, “…Winston threw a career-high 19 touchdowns and just one interception in this area (19.00 ratio) — second only to Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson…”. Let that sink in: 19 / 1!!!! So if Jameis can be careful with the ball in the red zone, he has the potential can be “coached up” to be just as prudent elsewhere on the field.
The potential is there. Give it time. Besides, you have no choice. Jameis is coming back next year; bank on it
January 9th, 2020 at 8:43 am
Joe
Could we get past the ONE freaking number?
Let’s flip this shall we. So why can’t you get past two numbers…yards and TD’s?
After yardage and TD’s what is there positive about JW.
We used to believe he was a natural leader. Nope…just a natural show off.
After the Bucs tried that “leadership” we ended up with the infamous “eat W’s” rah rah. Last year Fitz had captured this team more than JW.
But here are some positives. JW has been a model citizen off the field. I HONESTLY AND SINCERELY compliment JW on a personal level and I’m truly happy he’s got his life together. If he walked away tomorrow JW is wealthier than mere mortals like us can imagine. It’s all good for JW and I’m happy for him.
So past THREE things…TD’s…yardage…reformed his off field image…I’ll add a 4th…he has as much heart and toughness as I’ve EVER seen in an NFL QB.
I hope JW goes somewhere and blows up. It is possible for that to happen and for us to win bigly with a different QB.
Last night ate dinner at the Applebees on 4th. Sat at the bar next to a couple from Weedon Island. Asked if they were Buc fans. OH YEAH. They had season tickets from the final year at the Old Sombrero and then bought club seats in RayJay. They regaled me with the awesome tailgate parties in Lot 7.
Great I said…real Buc fans…so…JW stay or go?
They were torn just like so many of us..including me. I saw the pain on their face…wanting to like JW but simply having lost any confidence or trust.
And so THEY came up with MY final take on JW. I can hear NDOG applauding in the background.
I do not trust him to ever become consistent…BUT…I do trust BA…it’s his last rodeo and he’s does not want to go out a loser. If it was MY call I’d replace him in one of the many scenarios already discussed here.
But it’s NOT my decision and I’m nowhere near qualified nor do I have access to all the video, stats etc. nor the time to analyze them anyway.
I’m pretty much over the JW debate. Whatever BA decides is fine with me.
It’s his legacy and he obviously has forgotten more about football then I shall ever know. I just want to win next year and I’m beyond excited now about our D.
January 9th, 2020 at 8:45 am
I dont care about the picks either. He well over makes up for them with 5000 yards 33 tds.
If The Tampa Bay Bucs franchise had a baby and it was a qb… it will be Jameis anyway. He plays like the franchise history. It’s a perfect fit
January 9th, 2020 at 8:46 am
It’s all about the money……like with any defective product, we should get a discount…..like buying a fine tuned race car that won’t start on occasion….you simply don’t pay full price.
I’m for keeping Jameis, but he needs to do a team friendly deal.
January 9th, 2020 at 8:48 am
“Joe has long maintained there isn’t another quarterback out there expected to be available in free agency as good as Jameis. If the haters can get past one friggin’ number, Jameis is one of the NFL’s best.”
Wrong. The one friggin number is turnovers. Let’s not forget fumbles. Sloppy careless and selfish play. Jameis saying “he’s ballin'” when he has the best wide receiver tandem in the league and still turns it over (INT plus fumbles) is pure delusion.
January 9th, 2020 at 8:53 am
We have rotated how many players and coaches? We blame everybody else but jameis on a weekly basis. We can’t continue to accept bad play, from anyone. It’s contagious. If bad play is accepted, then it spreads throughout the team.
January 9th, 2020 at 8:54 am
“If the haters can get past one friggin’ number, Jameis is one of the NFL’s best.”
Love the website, but you’re completely missing the point by writing the above quote. You can’t win the NFL throwing 30 INTs, it literally isn’t possible. We’re never going to the Super Bowl with Winston as the QB (coming from a guy who owns a Winston jersey).
It’s time to move on. Sign a veteran and draft a QB.
January 9th, 2020 at 8:54 am
All these stats have to also be put in context of the last 4 years Jameis was in the same system. This year he was trying to fix the deep ball as well as learning a new system. Arians system has always had bad numbers for a QB with regards to INT in the first year.
Payton’s 4th year in the league and first with Arians he threw 23 INT, with 4131 yds and 26 TD with 547 Attempts and 7 fumbles.
So can we please just get a grip on the whole 5 year issue? Payton was in his 4th year, one less than Jameis. So by all of these posts you all would have gotten rid of Payton Manning as well. Jameis had so much to fix from lack of coaching with Dirk and the boys. Payton only threw 19 the next year then 10 the following years. Jameis will get better with more time for him and the WR in the system. Jameis’s first year at FSU he thew 40 TD with only 10 Int. His second year Jimbo put in true freshman WR and that is why his INT’s went up to 28. I just happen to know the FSU issue because a friend of mine was one of the Senior WR’s who was benched in favor of Bobo Wilson.
I am no excusing his INTs, but I am just giving the facts to this whole issue.
January 9th, 2020 at 8:58 am
If the haters (FANS) can get past one ( MANY BAD) friggin’ numbers, Jameis is one of the NFL’s best( at turning the ball over ). There all fixed for you JOE!!
January 9th, 2020 at 8:58 am
stpetebucsfan Says: “Last year Fitz had captured this team more than JW.”
and look what a journeyman QB did with our wide receivers… and people who don’t believe how good our WR’s are look at what Evans did for Johnny M.
January 9th, 2020 at 9:00 am
I like sitting in the safe shade watching people pay to throw up !
January 9th, 2020 at 9:03 am
Maybe in another 5 years he will learn to read a defense and earn the ability to call an audible.
January 9th, 2020 at 9:08 am
I have no problem if he throws some picks on his deep balls. He has gotten better at those and it’s worth the risk, especially considering our receivers. He is also very good out of the pocket.
The killer is that so many of his picks are on the short throws that go right to the defender. Sometimes they bait him and other times just follow his eyes. He seems to make up his mind pre-snap and the defenders know it. This part of his game has not improved in his 5 years and I have little hope that it will.
January 9th, 2020 at 9:12 am
Winston is a “Tease” QB.
One minute he shows you something that excites you, the next minute he does something horrible and costs you the game.
After 5 seasons in the NFL this is who and what he is. Won’t change.
January 9th, 2020 at 9:31 am
He’s highly inconsistent…..There is no “fix” for Winston except dropping him back less and running the ball more. That’s the simple and only solution. And even when you do that, he’s still going to give you those random bone head moves that may still tank the game. That’s just who he is. Less is more with Winston
January 9th, 2020 at 9:32 am
Jenna should have mentioned that Humphreys, Jameis’ top 3rd down, short yardage target, was gone in 2019. Let him get as comfortable with anyone else on short yardage targets as he was with hump, and you’ll see a different, better set of stats for short yardage plays.
After Godwin, who was Jameis throwing to in short yardage plays? Took most of the season for Perriman to make plays, the running backs were getting better but not great, the tight ends let Jameis down with drops, tips and bobbles. I would like to see what Hudson can do after an off-season to practice with Jameis.
January 9th, 2020 at 9:33 am
Letting one of the DLinemen go because A Jameis deal would take up too much salary cap fits perfectly for the Jameis excuse makers next year…
“If we only had a pass rush… The run D is worse this year…”
January 9th, 2020 at 9:42 am
Idiaznet-
If Jameis had 3 winning playoff seasons in 3 of his 1st 5 years, like Manning, there would be unanimous support for re-signing Jameis.
Not a good comparison.
January 9th, 2020 at 9:51 am
Matt Gay makes two kicks agains Giants and Falcons, Bucs are 9-7. Oh, and Jameis doesn’t throw for 30 which seems to be the magic number for so many. He, like many of the Bucs, have issues. Why is the OL so well paid, but always seems to play average at best in the run game? Why does Licht seem to have a hard time finding a RB, be it draft or free agency? But he can find all kinds of quality undrafted TE’s? But his first round pick for TE seems to have issues? His kickers seem to have mental issues in the Den of Depression. Nobody tells them half their games are there? When Gay came out in the last game, you could feel nothing but dread in the stadium. We knew what was coming. At least the DB’s seem to finally be coming around.
January 9th, 2020 at 9:53 am
So what NUMBER tells us what Jamies has done for the team
Everything is for Him
The team is 7-9 at home again
Talking Drafted by October AGAIN
JAMIES has had 5 YEARSSSSS. NOTHING CHANGED
MY QUESTION IS WHY DORS JOE LOVE HIM SOOOO MUCH??????
January 9th, 2020 at 9:54 am
The thing that I noticed is most consistent about Jameis is that he can’t play a complete game.
Good first half, bad second half. Good deep passes, bad short passes. Good short passes, ducks for long balls. Good running day, bad passing day, and so on.
I don’t think that can be fixed. It has to do with his focus and it seems to be very limited. Maybe electroshock or something can make more of his brain work, but I would rather not see a number three on the Bucs side again.
January 9th, 2020 at 9:55 am
The fact that you deleted my original post Joe suggest otherwise.
January 9th, 2020 at 9:58 am
HEY ANOTHER QUESTION???
Why do all the Jamies Lovers always say If the WR didn’t drop this one or The kicker made this kick or the Defense
BUTTTTTT The Guy who WANTS 30 million does get asked why questions
ITS NOT JUST INT NUMBERS
HOW ABOUT THE overthrown balls, the poorly thrown balls, the holding the ball for 5 minutes.
Ummmm. Listen I would be willing to bet a bucket of beer Jamies would not pull anything on the trade market JUST LIKE MCCOY…
January 9th, 2020 at 9:58 am
Hey Steve watch out moderation coming your way
January 9th, 2020 at 9:58 am
AlanBucs
Exactly. Please guys can we stop making comparison to guys who have REALLY succeeded. That includes Carson Palmer who was on his way to true stardom with the Bengals before the Steelers destroyed his knee.
Just to put some numbers to Alan’s point…Manning year 2 13 wins!!!!
Manning year 3 10 wins…year 5 10 wins..oh and what happened in year four…Manning’s ints shot up to 23 after two years of 15. A 6-10 record went with those ints.
January 9th, 2020 at 10:09 am
To me it all comes down to money. Do the Bucs Franchise or sign Winston spending close to 30mil if it means not being able to sign one or two of there top defensive players. I say no. If they want to sign Winston to atound 20mil w/incentives or sign him to a transition tag so they can sign Shaq, JPP, suh & Nassib I say go for it.
January 9th, 2020 at 10:10 am
Way to go on setting up the straw man, Unreasonable Joe. Just because a person is a critic of Jameis it doesn’t mean that person is a hater. Interceptions lose football games. Besides, he is not very accurate. His completion percentage was pathetically low. His advanced metrics shows he’s a below average QB and going by the eye test it’s evident he can’t read defenses very well and consistently throws to the wrong spot.
It’s not just one number, Unreasonable Joe. There are several numbers but the most important one besides yards, TDs, and INTs is wins. He doesn’t win at this level.
January 9th, 2020 at 10:17 am
This morning WDAE stated that Jaymiss had a total of 42 turnovers this season. Wow! And some of yall want to resign him? Bring in Bridgewater as a short term solution and draft a QB for the future. Save some cap space by letting Magoo walk.
January 9th, 2020 at 10:24 am
Atrain, just seems to be the one post so far (which was removed, and to be honest was quite innocuous). I’m fairly uncontroversial as far as some of the posters go.
January 9th, 2020 at 10:30 am
“One of the leagues best “
I mean just wow
Street cred is now negative – less then zero
Yah …he is a winner alright
Didnt win at home for what 2 and 1/2 seasons
Great subjective reporting once again
But its everyone elses fault even though qbs have more than ever an impact on the outcome of a game (You cant even fart on them with out penalty and dbs cant sniff a receiver )
But but he threw for 5,000 yards
😂
January 9th, 2020 at 10:36 am
lamarcus
he doesnt make up for it…..lol….
35turnovers>30TDs
GO BUCS!!!!!!
January 9th, 2020 at 10:38 am
it isnt that fans cant stomach the roller coaster. turnovers lose games. do you disagree? if you do, then state that but hard to when that # is a number as true as anything in the world of football.
whatever arians decides i and fans are on board with. has nothing to do with the roller coaster though and can we win games with the guy.
January 9th, 2020 at 10:39 am
@ bucs 12 “42 turnovers this season” and that’s in a contract year… think he’ll play better when he has a pile of loot from a new contract? lol yeah right. These people are delusional.
January 9th, 2020 at 10:43 am
813
Again who freaking cares about ints. Only butt hurt fans are looking for “something ” to blame other than their favorite Buc players for losing. Like you and Vh3. It’s the same narrative and “let’s make a 5000 yard passer look bad” mode and Bush league him. This will be the first
Bucs fans surely knows what a good qb look like. Beside we had Peyton, Tom, Brett. So we know what it looks like 5000 yard passer? Replace him
And 813. 33 tds 30 to be exact. Yall always talking boo boo out of yall mouths on the comment section. But I bet yall see JW in public yall want that selfie tho. Bucs fans are cancers
January 9th, 2020 at 10:45 am
“LOL! Not again!
5 months ago, Kobe Faker has claimed JW3 will be franchise tagged for 1 year…What’s the confusion?
Not only that but Kobe Faker stated the exact time table. Kobe has claimed Joel Segal will not even come to the table but only AFTER Mahomes and Watson signs their $37-38 mill per year extended contracts
Why does Kobe feel like he is talking to a wall”
Kobe Faker
January 9th, 2020 at 10:46 am
I am so confused as to what to do, sometimes JW makes my blood boil with angst and other times I’m awed by what he can do. My solution is to sign him to a 3yr 25 mill year guarantee with incentives; 2 mil for 17-22 int, 3 mil for 11-17 int and 5 mil 10 or less plus another 2 -3 mil for over 25 td and 4500 yd. Make him play for his money. Just my 2cents worth.
January 9th, 2020 at 10:49 am
I think it is very ignorant to call people haters because they’re intelligent enough to know you can’t win with that many turnovers which has been his Achilles’ heel since college. This is not fantasy football. In fantasy quarterbacks get more points for yardage and touchdowns and sometimes little to no penalty for interceptions. In real life one or two bad plays will lose the game. If you cared as much about the Buccaneers winning as you do promoting Winston you’d want him out of town as soon as possible.
January 9th, 2020 at 10:52 am
Five years have shown what Jameis is and he will be in the future. Joe asks what QB out there is as good as Jameis. Well Joe, when you take into consideration the turn-overs and losses, 90% of the QB’s in the league!
No QB has more interceptions or fumbles. And no QB in the league has lost as many games due to his own miscues and is still a starter. Like many other fans, I say bring in a veteran and draft a QB, in 2020 or even 2021. Keeping the current defense together and shoring up the o-line is much more important for next year than re-signing a losing QB.
January 9th, 2020 at 11:08 am
Geez H. Christ, you guys act like drunks on the street can walk on a football and throw for 5k yards and 30 TDs.
Get rid of Jameis? Careful what you wish for. Mike Glennon hasn’t retired yet.
January 9th, 2020 at 11:18 am
What did the 5000 yds get? How many yards did Brad Johnson, Jeff Garcia, Shaun King, Doug Williams or Chris Simms throw for?
January 9th, 2020 at 11:20 am
“next one is getting down to 24 picks in a season.”
He averaged ~ 16 per season for 4 years prior……….
January 9th, 2020 at 11:21 am
Joe, how much do you pay for an unfixable quarterback?
January 9th, 2020 at 11:23 am
He’s broken? We should all be so broken.
Don’t care about the cash unless you find someone better… and that QB won’t be walking the streets panhandling for work. Maybe in the draft?
January 9th, 2020 at 11:37 am
lamarcus
i said TURNOVERS!!!!!!!!
it aint just the INTs nuthugger!!!!!!!!!!
i counted 35 turnovers INTs and Fumbles combined…..someone else mentioned he had 42 turnovers……either way, he turned the ball over more than his 33TDs…..if you want to have a losing season, turn the ball over….
GO BUCS!!!!!!
January 9th, 2020 at 11:44 am
One interesting thing I saw when stat digging today is how we had 15 rushing TDs which was league average and 2 TD away from being top 10 in the league.
Considering how bad our run game was (bottom 5 in YPA), it’s kind of flukey we had that many rushing TDs…
We had 5100 passing yards / 1500 rushing yards but had
33 passing TD / 15 rushing TD
It’s weird but it’s like we committed to the run game a lot more in the red zone and we were better at it. Based on the yardage splits it’d have been more likely most years that the QB accounts for 36-40 TDs but we had a lot of 1 or 2 yard hand offs to Barber/Rojo for TDs
January 9th, 2020 at 11:45 am
lamarcus
winston and stafford are the only QBs to throw for 5K and not win a playoff game……
manning, brees, brady, big ben for SB champs…..
mahomes, manning, brady, marino all won NFL MVPs…..
you comparing JW to any other QB that has passed for 5k besides stafford is comparing apples to oranges….lol…..
JW and stafford shouldnt even be mentioned along with the rest of the 5k passers…..
GO BUCS!!!!!!
January 9th, 2020 at 11:54 am
and ive stated plenty of times VHG didnt get it done…..simple as that….
just like JW isnt currently getting it done….
but VHG is at a place where 30INTs cant take you…..THE PLAYOFFS!!!!!!!
what QB in NFL history threw 30INTs, had a winning season and made the playoffs?……
yo dumba$$ thinks JW should be the highest paid QB in the NFL because he passed for 5k…..lol….
this aint fantasy football!!!!….stats are for losing!!!!!….
Ws are the only thing that gets you to the playoffs….NOT passing for 5K…..
GO BUCS!!!!!
January 9th, 2020 at 11:56 am
The good:
#3 scoring offense
5100+ passing yards
47 offensive TDs
8.2 yards per attempt
The bad:
41 offensive turnovers – 35 by the QB (30 INT / 5 fumbles)
3.7 YPA rushing attack
The hopeful:
1 INT per 21 attempts in 2019 vs a career history of 1 per 33 from 2015-2018
The “1st year in Arians system” splits of every QB before him
Kobe Faker is probably right on the $$. Go Bucs.
January 9th, 2020 at 11:57 am
@Joe … “Get rid of Jameis? Careful what you wish for. Mike Glennon hasn’t retired yet.”
Oh Joe, you’re starting to sound like the guy who won’t dump the beautiful but crazy girlfriend because he’s afraid he’ll never find anyone more beautiful. Newsflash: Crazy is crazy.
I have to believe that BA is weighing every alternative BEFORE committing to another year with Jameis. What he REALLY thinks of Jameis, who might be available in FA or the draft, and most definitely MONEY. Jameis has a say in this whole process too. If not franchise-tagged, he may very well get an offer that entices him to move on. And oh ya, the Glazers also have a say in this decision. Actually they have the FINAL say (don’t ASSUME that they’re willing to take a chance on yet another year of losing & declining attendance).
And LaMarcus, I can’t believe you actually wrote “Again who freaking cares about INTs”. Tell me it was a ghost writer. I can say with some degree of certainty that OPPOSING TEAMS care about Jameis’ INTs … a LOT (the more the better in their eyes). And I’m pretty sure that OUR OWN DEFENSE cares about Jameis’ INTs … a LOT (they get to clean up his messes). And just a wild guess, but I’d say that MOST BUCS FANS also care about Jameis’ INTs … a LOT (and especially when his multiple INTs in a game factor into the loss). Just a thought …
January 9th, 2020 at 12:02 pm
@Joe
Are you a FSU homer or something? You sound like an abused spouse covering for Winston. “Those interceptions aren’t his fault”. ” The receivers are just running the wrong routes or quitting on the route”. “Its the defenses fault they can’t hold the other team from scoring after the 4th picks”. “Its the kickers fault Winston couldn’t score in the red zone”. Come on dude the excuses are just getting old!!

I am so sick of the 5k yards argument. Yea its nice to have but d@mn sure not a necessity to win games. You all seemed so obsessed like its the end all be all of QBing. Then you imply we shouldnt care about turnovers when anyone with any sort of football knowledge knows turnovers lead directly to losses. How can 1 guy make people become so stupid?
Any decent, key word being decent, QB is going to throw for a lot of yards in this system with these receivers. Pretending Jameis is our only chance is absolutely ridiculous. I rather have boring Glennon be safe with the ball and not losing us games then exciting Winston turning the ball over and actually losing us games. But I guess for all the Winston D riders, exciting is better than actually winning.

As a FSU fan I wanted Jameis to excel in Tampa, but he gotta go! I was holding on with all my Seminole pride that he can be the franchise QB, but with the last pick6 and then to hear him say “he’s ballin” , “he’s the best, if he can cut the int’s down”. HE IS DILLUSIONAL… It’s all coming back, “crab legs were given to me”, “eat W’s”. Sorry gotta go 🙁

2 logical reason why Jenna Laine’s “Bad” critique is a load of fluff.
1) BA’s offense pushes the ball down the field much more than the previous staff.
This means JW3 has to let the play develop & that takes more time in the pocket. (meaning the OL is tasked with holding up the rush for 0.5-1.0 secs longer than previous yrs). This was one of the reasons BA was shuffled out of PIT… His “Risk it / No Biscuit” OFF philosophy was successful, but getting Roethlisberger crushed on a weekly basis & the hits were mounting up FAST.. Ben took 215 sacks in 5yrs, w/ BA as Pit OC..& suffered through 4x that # in QB hits. (You have to protect your franchise QB better than that!!!)
Coincidentally, Big Ben was sacked 47x in BA’s 1st yr as PIT OC…Same exact # of sacks JW3 took this yr, his 1st in BA’s system. (Which is only 20 more than he took in 2018 running Koetter’s system.)
2) Slot WR Adam Humphries is a Titan & BA’s system is not TE friendly… Hump was a safety blanket on under-neither / check downs routes from the slot (not so much w/ Perriman)…& the TE position was given a greater importance in the passing game, in Koetter’s system.
When combining circumstances created by #1 (more time in the pocket – more hits to QB) & #2 (losing Hump & less TE importance in passing game)…It’s pretty easy to make direct correlation between Jenna’s findings & why JW’s #’s went south on check-down routes.

Bucs will never be a continual playoff contender with Winston as QB.
And the Glazers know that will cost them millions.

Most Bucs fans only care about wins. I for one, wouldn’t care about the number of picks Winston throws if the Bucs had a winning record and a couple of playoff appearances. But they don’t because Winston throws costly interceptions, loses fumbles and takes stupid penalties that cause loss of downs. That’s why he needs to go. His mistakes caused 6 losses last season. That’s unacceptable.

“Fix one thing and another pothole opens up to fill.”
Spot on description for Jameis.

It’s more than one number the “haters” are focused on Joe. The turnovers of course… But also… Personal conduct investigations? Wins? Penalties?
Not saying he can’t turn it around, but it is shocking how you can distill the “haters” ire into complaints about picks. Listen to the people.
