Alex Cappa Had Midseason Surgery

January 4th, 2020

The tough-guy legend of Alex Cappa grows again.

Bucs fans surely remember when Cappa broke his arm against the Saints in early October and didn’t come out of the game. The dude played more than a half with a busted limb.

It was a special brand of toughness Bucs fans aren’t used to, and then Cappa only missed two games before returning.

What Joe didn’t know until listening to offensive line coach Joe Gilbert talk on Buccaneers Radio recently is Cappa had surgery the day after the Saints game. Yep, Cappa needed a freakin’ plate put in his arm.

Gilbert gushed about his second-year man.

“I think Cap has come a long way,” Gilbert said. ‘I’ll be honest from watching tape from when we first got here and doing evaluations on the players until now, he has made huge strides. He really has,” Gilbert said. “He’s a smart guy. Really smart. I know he doesn’t talk a lot; he’s quiet but he’s very, very smart and tough. When he broke his arm and had to get the plate put in it, he played almost the entire game with a broken arm and didn’t say a word, didn’t come out, and then he’s got to get surgery 24 hours afterwards.”

Gilbert added that Cappa is the ideal young player because he has so much love for the game.

Joe can’t argue with that after Cappa played through a busted wing that needed surgery.

Add Cappa to the list of young Bucs who developed so well this season. Cappa was a late third-round pick. Joe would love to see general manager Jason Licht find another hungry young lineman in Round 3 again.

12 and 65 most improved. JL got this one right. This guy is a season away from entering my screen name ring of honor. I love him.

  2. Ndog Says:

Man we need more guys like him in this team. Guys that LOVE football.

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Add Carlton Davis & Rojo to the list of most improved players…..

But….most improved is sometimes a dubious accolade.

  4. Buczilla Says:

Tough dude, we need more like him on our line.

  5. MadMax Says:

C Darryl Williams…4th, maybe low 3rd…his stock is climbing.

  6. BigMacAttack Says:

Almost the whole team improved with the exceptions of VH3 (cancer removed), Brate Butter Fingers and Winston who has progressively got worse every year. Forgot one, Peyton Barber pretty much sucked all season.

  7. JGhoti86 Says:

I think that may be the biggest positive of the whole season. The development and progress of the young Bucs and the rookies as well. Some of whom were even labeled bust and had all, but been written off by many…especially the crowd of over-zealous, rash and premature-thinking fans.

That bodes well for the future.

…and no one can question the toughness and love for the game that Cappa possesses. That’s abundantly clear.

  8. Stanglassman Says:

I’d think this thread would be covered with apologies to Cappa and Jason Licht from JBF comment experts who declared him a bust last year. People always remind everyone how right they were when their predictions pan out but never own up to it when they were wrong.

If Cap continues to develop he could be as good and versatile as Marpet.

  9. donuts Says:

Sitting here watching Josh Allen…..makes me worry less for life after Winston. Bucs should move on if they can find the right QB piece cuz they have the best WR tandem in the league. If Winston goes elsewhere, he will struggle more than he has here. If I were Licht, I would play money ball with his agent. Does Winston favor winning or money? Time will tell.

  10. Brandon Says:

Stupid report at BucNation had the Bucs going after Redskins OG, Brandon Scherff. The idiot that wrote it obviously has no idea how player development or cap management works. Go out and overpay at a position where we already have a young quality cheap player. He also had us overpaying for Logan Ryan. Did this dunce even watch the games?

  11. donuts Says:

Cappa playing hurt is commonplace in NFL. Everybody is hurting in some way by week 6-7 in the NFL.

  12. JimmyJack Says:

This coaching staff developed Cappa. In one year they developed more offensive lineman the Dirk’s staff did in 3 full years.

Now go get em some more pieces Licht.

  13. Jean Lafitte Says:

I’m sure Alex is very humble about his chance to play in the NFL. Considering the path he took to get here he probably feels blessed for the opportunity he has gotten and wants to make the best out of it.

This dude certainly has the dog in him as well. Unlike D. Smith who was gifted his spot and sometimes plays like he’s avoiding contact.

Just give me one Alex Cappa for every two D. Smith’s.

  14. Alanbucsfan Says:

Cappa had only 3 penalties all year.
Dotson led all linemen with 10 penalties.

  15. Stanglassman Says:

Allen is playing on a very good balanced team. This is exactly what Jameis supporters are calling for. Allen is ask to do so much less than Jameis. Jameis is a better Qb than Allen. It’s too bad as a Bucs fan you don’t see that. I doubt the Bills fans are not obsessing about all the dropped turnovers and pick six that Houston dropped in the first half like Jameis detractors do.

  16. stpetebucsfan Says:

“Joe would love to see general manager Jason Licht find another hungry young lineman in Round 3 again”

Couldn’t agree more..let’s really build the trenches. In fact lets find a great OL in round 1 and add that project in round 3 or 4. If we do that and Dot would play for a LOT less I wouldn’t mind watching Dot ride the pine as a backup. His knees are shot but he might a few games left as a fill in and he’s great in the locker room. Plus honestly there’s a soft spot in my heart for guys like he and LVD. I desperately want to see them in the playoffs next year.

If we could execute LUV’s plan and sign JW then trade him for a first rounder and second rounder to Miami…he’s out of conference if he blows up….which I hope he does if he’s in the other conference.

Miami has a boatload of first and second round picks.

Imagine the damage we could do in the draft with TWO #1’s and TWO #2’s!!!

We get a stud RB…Stud DL….Stud OL and still have a top 2 to play with!

  17. stpetebucsfan Says:

To guys watching the playoff game….Josh Allen is opening my eyes…so is Watson but not in the same good way as Allen. Hadn’t really seen Allen much before.

And the NFL barely saved themselves a MAJOR embarrassment to start the second half. Houston return man waves his arms to his sides instead of over his head and throws the ball to the ref to walk off the field when Buffalo grabs it and he Ref calls TD.

I freaking HATE nitpicking calls that prove a Ref knows the rules EXACTLY.

It was soooo obvious to EVERYBODY but that ref that it was a touchback.

Thankfully Buffalo’s td was taken off the board when the refs got overruled.

  18. JGhoti86 Says:

    Stanglassman,

Unfortunate and sad truth w/ people today and today’s society. It’s always going to be this way when there is NO accountability. Technology has played a huge role in it as well.

People also love to play both sides against the fence, in their favor, but don’t do the same when the opposite is true.

…and don’t dare call them out on their BS.

  19. Stanglassman Says:

Playing a entire half of football as a lineman with a broken arm that requires a plate is not common place. Sight all the examples it’s happened if it’s so common. Sure players play with nagging injuries but not this severe. Why not give the guy some props for playing with so much toughness and grit.

  20. 1sparkybuc Says:

A Buccaneer Ring Of Honor that leaves out 63 is no ROH at all.

  21. Stanglassman Says:

St. Pete. Is it opening your eyes because you’re watching a Qb who is playing on a well balanced team who’s ask is do so little compared to Jameis. Great defense and very productive running game. Or is it the dropped pick six and two other turnovers he should have caused if the Texans DBs and Watt made the plays given to them. Nothing against Allen he is a very good game manager Qb.

  22. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

Wow must be nice their kicker can make kicks. Just think right now if that was our kicker this game would be a 7 point game. Score looks much bigger when you make your kicks. Simple as that!

  23. Wesley Says:

So jealous watching this well coached Bills team. And with a smart q.b. that doesn’t kill his team.

  24. SteveK Says:

    Go Bucs!

I can see Cappa and JPP voted captains next year. #Warriors

  25. Ndog Says:

    What was that Wesley?

  26. Stanglassman Says:

I do agree with that fact that the bill are well coached. But so are the Bucs. To be fair this is McDermott’s 3rd season and only BAs first.

  27. Wesley Says:

    @ndog – a fumble not a pick 6. One fumble.

  28. donuts Says:

LOL Winston is asked to do so much??? This includes not turning the ball over. The mantra from the past 2 coaches. Has it happened? No. Allen had 9 iNTs this year….this Bucs team is in the playoffs with a QB with 9 INTs. Allen had 20 passing TDs plus 8 rushing TD = 28. I dont expect to change the mind of a Winston apologist.

Stan get it right…Cappa played one half of football with the injury. Everyone has injuries some serious that you dont hear about. Sorry but Cappa is average at best. He is no superman.

  29. Tampabuscsbro Says:

I love how the winston shills have to make everything about him.

  30. Wesley Says:

    Truth

  31. Ndog Says:

Wesley if that was our QB you would be ripping him to shreds. Plus again what you don’t comprehend is that he is not having to try to make plays like the one that just caused the TO cause his defense isn’t allowing anything. You guys just don’t get it do you. Plus let’s not even mention he threw a pick 6 (the exact same throw Jameis made against the exact same player) only to have it dropped and was a half inch away from another fumble that he lost. Please ignore all those facts when making completely unbiased/clueless observations.

  32. Ndog Says:

Tampabuscsbro um I believe this ⬇️ was posted and I simply responded to it.

    Wesley Says:

So jealous watching this well coached Bills team. And with a smart q.b. that doesn’t kill his team.

  33. Wesley Says:

@ndog- You’re delusional and have been in denial a looooong time.

  34. Stanglassman Says:

That’s what I thought. Zero examples.

Josh Allen is a good game manager Qb. Not great but good and yes not ask to do much. He’s been ask to drop back and pass 3 time this half to get the first down. The results were a sack, a fumble and he just threw it to the ground incomplete to the TE on the last one. Most of his passes this game are swing passes to rb or short crossing routes.

  35. Ndog Says:

donuts I know you have no idea what you are talking about but are you seriously comparing what Allen is asked to do with what Jameis is asked to do? The Bills averaged 19 points a game so how many games would we have won with that? Dude you can’t be serious? Also yes most players have injuries but not many are playing with a metal plate in their arm. Common man are you for real?

  36. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

Winston the man will be back! Go Bucs!

  37. Wesley Says:

    Yeah donuts, interceptions don’t matter.

  38. Ndog Says:

See that is great play calling.

  39. Ndog Says:

    Yeah Wesley points don’t matter.

  40. Ali Says:

    Leave jaboo alone

  41. Stanglassman Says:

I watched Devin Singletary at FAU and wished the Bucs picked him in the draft. Surprised he went early 3rd round though. That dude can play fast and brakes a ton of tackles.

  42. Stanglassman Says:

Allen has handed the ball off, threw a screen pass, thrown the ball away and got called for grounding so far. Let’s see what he does on 4th and long. Allen looks nervous.

  43. Craig Says:

The run game in the last game was more about Cappa than RoJo. Cappa blew his way through the D-line and Linebackers to open big holes.

Jameis is not a better QB than Josh Allen. Ball security is important and the lack of it makes Jameis worthless to many coaches.

  44. Ndog Says:

You mean when Buffalo had to throw the ball and they were in a predictable situation the QB didn’t look as good? What how is that possible? Who would have ever thought that?

  45. Bucc941 Says:

The Bills have a top 5 defense and a top 10 running game. Oh yeah…and a good game manager QB right? Lol

  46. Stanglassman Says:

Jameis may not be a quick as Allen but has better escapability. Disastrous play by Josh Alan.

I wonder if St Pete is still so unimpressed by Waston and impressed by Allen.

  47. Alanbucsfan Says:

Vernon Hargreaves won a playoff game LOL

  48. donuts Says:

Winston INTs and fumbles are the PRIMARY reason you are not rooting on the Bucs today. No, I never made that comparison so ndog reading comprehension class begins Monday.

You must like pick 6s…Winston is now the record holder of that QB stain stat

  49. Eric Says:

I thought some of these clowns claims Licht can’t draft!

  50. Stanglassman Says:

Can you imagine if Jameis did that bone headed play that Allen just did? Dognutts. and Wesley would go crazy. Not to mention the national media.

  51. Ndog Says:

Again donuts wrong we are not in the playoffs because we had an all time Horrible defense for the first half of the year and a kicker that can’t make any kicks that matter. But keep blindly hating you just further expose you CLUELESSNESS.

  52. donuts Says:

It was a bad play. However, if he would have hit the TE the media would be saying WOW!

  53. Ndog Says:

    Another dropped pick.

  54. Bucc941 Says:

    Another dropped pick

  55. Stanglassman Says:

That’s the 5th missed opportunity on a josh Allen turnover. Wow. Allen is a luck man.

  56. Bucc941 Says:

    Ndog… Lol

  57. Ndog Says:

donuts now you are just embarrassing yourself.

  58. donuts Says:

ndog whats the most important position on the field?

  59. Stanglassman Says:

Bad call by refs giving the bills that first down.

  60. Ndog Says:

donuts I’m not here to teach you football bro, sorry.

  61. donuts Says:

    ndog im waiting…..

  62. donuts Says:

most important position on the field is?????

  63. donuts Says:

ndog cant answer simple ??? Ive heard you were a clueless coward on here….thanks for the confirmation

  64. donuts Says:

    How about that!!

  65. Ndog Says:

Must be nice to have a kicker.

  66. donuts Says:

What position put the Bills in position for that FG???

  67. Stanglassman Says:

4-4 fgs. Bucs would have lost this game because we would have missed at least one. Jameis’s fault of course.

  68. DBS Says:

Overtime. We know what would happen here no question.

  69. donuts Says:

lol so kicker is the most important position on the field…got it….

  70. Ndog Says:

    Exactly Stanglassman exactly.

  71. donuts Says:

maybe u2 should get Winston bunkbeds together…I bet there would be alot of turnovers there too

  72. Stanglassman Says:

To the bills tonight it has been. The kicker has 13 of 19 points.

False start is how the Bucs like to start drives in overtime.

  73. Jean Lafitte Says:

Who the hell is claiming Josh Allen is the poster child for NFL QB’s? He’s exactly the same as Winston but the only difference is that he’s in his second season (in the playoffs) and Winston just finished his 5th and never seen post season play. Let’s revisit Josh Allen in three more years and see where he stands then.

  74. Ndog Says:

    Another dropped interception.

  75. donuts Says:

My whole point was QB turnovers killed the Bucs this year….we have a few in denial. Even JP Peterson the biggest garnett n gold glasses wearer has seen the light

  76. Rojas Says:

VH3 with the miss tackle on 3rd and 12 he’s in mid season form. Glad we got rid of him.

  77. Ndog Says:

Great play by Allen there great play!

  78. Ndog Says:

    I can’t stand Hargraves.

  79. donuts Says:

The odds are 100000000000000 to 1 that VH3 has a pick 6 to win game

  80. Stanglassman Says:

So much for making dinner between the games tonight.

  81. Stanglassman Says:

Lovie should have let Leslie Frazier call his own defense. We know now who was F-ing up the D.

  82. geno711 Says:

Like for a depth offensive line pick – Jonah Jackson of Ohio State.
Originally on Rutgers was a graduate transfer for 2019 for Ohio State. He was recruited last spring by Ohio State and Oklahoma. He became immediate starter at Left Guard at Ohio State this year. I think he is 3rd rounder or later. He was a Right Guard and Center at Rutgers. He was also a captain at Rutgers.

He has committed to playing in the Senior Bowl and because they are short on Tackles will be playing tackle for them. I think he will do anything for his team. He won’t be the most athletic.

I think could be a starting center for us in 2 – 3 years without being a high pick.

  83. Ndog Says:

One thing that is clear is that this style of game in the playoffs is completely different than the style we play, at these so far. Not many deep shots, ball control, running the ball a lot, not a crazy amount of blitzing, just a different game.

Amazing play by Watson as I am typing this.

  84. Patrick Says:

Anybody watching the Houston/Buffalo game? Feels nice to watch some mistake free football for once! Lol

  85. Jean Lafitte Says:

It was a better overtime than our last overtime

  86. Ndog Says:

I hate to be Mr. Negative here but this is a prime example of one of the many reasons we aren’t where we need to be. If we were Houston there is no way we kick that FG. We would have to try to score the TD cause our kick just flat cannot be trusted. Very frustrating after we’ve tried everything we can to solve the problem.

  87. Ndog Says:

Actually Patrick there have been a ton of mistakes but the defenses have not taken advantage of them unlike they always seem to do vs us. It’s unreal really how many chances Houston had at TOs only to miss them.

  88. Jean Lafitte Says:

Tannehill would be an interesting UFA. He has played some inspiring football since coming back from injury while in Miami. His cost would be certainly cheaper than Winston at $30+ mill

  89. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Jean

Hope you are correct….not sure at this point after their travails with their own “savior” at QB they’re going to let Tannehill escape.

    NDOG

Of course JW never had any sure ints simply dropped eh?

  90. Patrick Says:

I actually am in favor of keeping Winston around at the price. I’d like to see how the offense balances out with a solid running back and a tweak or two on the o line. Get Winston some counseling from Brad Johnson and Jeff Garcia on how to not throw interceptions.

  91. StickW3 Says:

We put so much negativity on 3 instead of putting it on the whole team. As you can see the QB play on both these teams was a product of their system. The only difference is they are a more complete team. They are not better coached. As the game got late with more pressure Josh started to panic and Houston went into prevent defense that is what allowed the game tying Fg. People let’s wake up and get behind this team if they bring 3 back. And please not let’s forget this team was learning a new offense and Defense. I think it is only fair if we judge them with another season under these coaches.

  92. Jean Lafitte Says:

That’s what we need to draft. A big back like Henry. Someone like Alabama’s Najee Harris

  93. Jean Lafitte Says:

    SPBF

they’re going to let Tannehill escape.
    ____________________________________

You’re exactly right but it is an intriguing thought nonetheless.

  94. Ndog Says:

Both Tenn and NE running the ball a ton.

  95. Jean Lafitte Says:

    StickW3

Says the guy that will completely disappear if Winston shats the bed again next season

  96. Ndog Says:

I didn’t know accountinh for basically 90% of our #3 scoring offense in the league was shatting the bed. Man you learn something new everyday.

  97. firethecannons Says:

Cappa is a real success story, he filled the black hole that was right guard and sounds like he is a lock for 2020. Remember Benenenoch was awful for 2 years before, hoping we replace Dotson with a better player that does not incur so many penalties–those are drive killers.

  98. Stanglassman Says:

Jean- I agree. I like Utah Rb Zach Moss. He reminds me of Mark Ingram.

  99. Jean Lafitte Says:

35 turnovers is exactly a stellar performance either
I’d say tat’s closer to shatting the bed

  100. Stanglassman Says:

I remember Ryan Tannehill’s rookie season on hard knocks they were making fun of him because he didn’t have any idea what teams were in their division or how many teams were in the NFL.

He’s always had talent kinda like Jameis he just hasn’t played on a good TEAM.

  101. Jean Lafitte Says:

    oh Zach Moss ..great choice

  102. Ndog Says:

It’s like these teams are literally playing a different game than we play.

  103. Jean Lafitte Says:

The thing is the Titans don’t really have anybody except Derrick Henry and Tannehill has done way more than Winston has done with a bunch of nobodies. Imagine Tannehill with our offensive players playing against the Patriots. I think they would be destroying NE.

Hey, How bout Henry lookin like Beastmode?

  104. Ndog Says:

Tannehill has thrown 9 passes this entire half. Wow, and they just line up and announce they are running play after play yet still are getting 6-7 yards every play. Very impressive.

  105. Stanglassman Says:

Tenn needs to turn around and hand the ball off until Bill B. puts 8 in the box. Then use that play action pass down field.

  106. Jean Lafitte Says:

    It really is^^^

  107. Ndog Says:

Jean with every post you look more ridiculous. Just stop posting please for the love of everything.

  108. Jean Lafitte Says:

It’s nice to have a running game

  109. Jean Lafitte Says:

    piss off ndog

  110. Stanglassman Says:

Tannehill would look just like he did with the dolphins. What’s makes him look good is how well the team around him play. I’m not saying the Bucs receivers aren’t great but a big part of why they look so great is because of Jameis. Just ask the Titian’s who paid Humphries. and whoever pays Parriman like a one next year.

  111. Ndog Says:

Vs us that’s a pick 6. Some teams are so flipping lucky.

  112. Ndog Says:

I wonder if there is more of a chance of Int or sack fumbles when you throw 41 times or 20?

  113. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

Boy do the Bucs need to stick it to Jon Robinson and sign Derrick Henry. He is exactly what a franchised Winston needs.

  114. Stanglassman Says:

Tennehill looking like a starting nfl Qb again exposes how bad Mariota was more than anything else. I think it’s more likely that Jameis would take the Titian’s deep in the playoffs than Tennehill would the Bucs this season.

  115. Jean Lafitte Says:

lol …we ended at 7 – 9 with a pick 6 in overtime against another 7-9 team in our own division on his first telegraphed pass

    Yeah …Jameis would be unstoppable

  116. DaBux Says:

We get Donovan to just show up every game and remain consistent and a strong RT, we’ll be in better shape in both the running and passing game. Oh, and a TE that can actually block and catch (hint trade OJ).

  117. Ndog Says:

Also each team has one penalty whereas we led the league in penalities. Running the ball, not commit penalities, playing good defense are things playoff teams do and ironically they also make things easier for their QB, weird right?

  118. catcard202 Says:

Cappa is a warrior. Was a gamble in 3rd, but looks to be paying off.

It was frustrating waiting a yr for him to get his body & technique NFL ready…But going forward though, sky’s the limit. (2018 season/off-season concerns alleviated!)

With half the OL problem seemingly fixed w/ Cappa’s emergence @ RG… Only starting RT needs addressed at the moment. Love all that Dotson has given the Bucs, but those knees aren’t getting younger & his run blocking is a liability.

Until the biggest off-season decisions are made, regarding JW3 – Shaq – JPP – Suh..We can only guess what the real NEEDS will be come draft day…But RT is GLARING…So, unless Oregon QB Herbert or AUB DT Derrick Brown slide to the Bucs @ #14…(both unlikely)…I’d love to see the FO target Georgia RT Isaiah Wilson @ #14 (if he’s still there) & fix the R-Side OL for the foreseeable future. He’s a plug & play RT w/ the size, strength, length & feet to start from day 1.

If Licht does what he usually does…(Brings back Vets that should be cut & “plans for future” a yr late.)….We’ll likely see Dotson back in 2020 & Licht will draft someone like SCSt. RT Alex Taylor in the 5th Rd. (6’9″ 310 w/ 36″ arms)…Who’s talented enough & checks a lot of boxes for a NFL RT…But like Cappa, would take a yr to get his body & technique NFL ready.

  119. Stanglassman Says:

Last season when Jameis won the last game on a great play to Godwin the same people complained that Jameis cost up a better pick in the draft. The guy can’t win with you guys. OT should have never happened. Jameis moved the offense into position to kick 3 relatively easy fgs but went 0-3. For some reason you’ll seem to understand it’s a team game when you talk about other teams but when it comes to the Bucs Jameis needs to be the green lantern.

  120. JimmyJack Says:

NDog it’s unfortunate we don’t focus on all them flaws more. But that’s just the nature of the beast when the most important position on the field is turning it over at an unacceptable rate. I mean come on dude your not new to football. You know losing the turnover battle is gonna make it tough to win.

So yeah there’s more then one problem on this team but our QB coughing up the ball over 30 times this year is gonna be seen as the biggest one just because of his position.

If you don’t know that the QB takes the biggest spotlight then you just don’t get it.

  121. Jean Lafitte Says:

    Stanglassman

    I didn’t complain in fact I was stoked we reached 5 – 11 ..smh

  122. JimmyJack Says:

Stangglass you can’t excuse a game losing INT cause you don’t think it should have gotten to OT.

Yes, Gay gotta make his kicks. But in the event that he don’t as fans we should be able to hope that our offense can still get the ball back again with a chance to win. That’s what happened and when it does we should expect our QB to deliver us a win since the rest of the team(not named Gay) fought to keep us in it and give us a chance.

Like dude, the INT still counts and it was a bad choke job no matter how it came to be. Freaking Winston gotta be better then that if he ever gonna live up to our standards.

  123. Stanglassman Says:

Catcard- Jameis is coming back the only question is how they do it. Other than picking a Qb early I completely agree with you on the rest. Cappa and need at RT. I’d add a big between the tackle Rb and Safety to replace J. Evans who is unlikely to get back healthy.

  124. JimmyJack Says:

I don’t even care about statistical turnover numbers. I care more about situations. Winston got roated for a lot of picks against Saints earlier and none of em bothered me. Because none of the situations were critical.

But I’m sorry if you wanna be a franchise QB you need to freaking deliver when it’s crunch time. Not fold like a weak B**ch. That crap in OT shows me you can’t handle the pressure. The week before was the same thing. Week 1 vs San Fran was another choke.

That’s freaking 3 times Winston had where he could have carried the team on his back. And he crumbled under pressure. That aren’t how elite QBs handle pressure bro. I’m sorry but it isn’t. You can think it is but your lying to yourself.

  125. Ndog Says:

So did he fold vs the Cardinals, Giants, Seahawks, Colts? See JimmyJack it goes both ways he played huge at critical moments in all of those games yet you ignore those cause you want to.

  126. Stanglassman Says:

Jimmyjack. I agree. The turnovers need to go down and I think they will. Rojo was running the ball well I don’t think it was the smartest OT play calling and Jameis should have never let that ball go. I just think the 2nd year in the system the interceptions will go down just like they did for other Qbs. A better run game, defense and not playing with a injured throwing hand should help too.

  127. JimmyJack Says:

Elite don’t mean putting up 5k and throwing 30 TDs……Elite(at least in my book) is taking your team down the field when the ball is in your hands with a chance to win.

Good QBs win. PERIOD…….You can hack up all this nonsense about defense but the defense and how we could be a playoff team but when we needed our QB to beat any playoff team from this year he laid a freaking egg.

  128. JimmyJack Says:

No NDog he didn’t fold in them games. And he also didn’t have the ball in his hands staring down a game winning drives in any of them…..Well OK he did deliver one against the Giants.

And the two wins we got from those 4 you mentioned it was the defense who closed out the game. Not the offense.

  129. Stanglassman Says:

Do you think all the Buccaneers player would be so behind Jameis if they thought he choked under pressure? That’s just a ridiculous take that Jameis cracks under pressure.

  130. JimmyJack Says:

I’m talking about pressure. So what…..oh he had a good game against the Seahawks so that cancels out the fact that he choked on a pressure drive vs Texans? What kind of logic is that dude?

  131. Ndog Says:

No JimmyJack it means when you are asking a player to do it 12 times a year they are not going to always come through.

  132. JimmyJack Says:

Stang I hope I’m wrong and Winston prooves me wrong. But that’s just the evidence I’ve seen this year.

When Winston had the ball and a chance to take us on the final game winning drive he got picked all three times.

  133. Jean Lafitte Says:

    what was our record again?

The way some of you talk about Jameis you’d think we had a winning season. Tell that to the 1000’s of fans who have left the Den in droves. Almost all my friends who have given up their season tickets say Winston is mostly to blame. They are the 12th man and they are committing mutiny in record numbers.

The Bucs org must recognize this and take it into consideration. I wouldn’t want to see how ugly it would get if we start next season with a losing half season record because of Winston’s penchant for turnovers.

  134. Stanglassman Says:

He threw a pass he shouldn’t have. That’s maybe over confident in his ability but far from choking. I think part of it was that fact that he couldn’t get the velocity in the ball with his broken thumb. I weird thing is I think the injury seemed to help his long ball and touch passes. Hopefully he can’t learn something from the experience. Like not forcing balls and putting more touch and air under other throws.

  135. JimmyJack Says:

12 times a year? Huh, whatever. Don’t even know where you came up with that.

How bout Winston just deliver when the opportunity presents itself. Like the 3 I mentioned. And no. He isn’t gonna deliver every time, he’s not perfect. But he got picked 3 times. That’s garbage.

  136. Jean Lafitte Says:

    Stanglassman

stop staring down receivers would be a start also ..but we are talking 5 seasons later

  137. Stanglassman Says:

Jean- That just sounds to me like you need to find some better friends.

  138. Jean Lafitte Says:

    Brady’s last NFL pass ..a pick 6

  139. Ndog Says:

Brady pick 6 to end the game so he must not have the clutch gene right JimmyJack?

  140. Stanglassman Says:

Brady choked with pick6 to lose the game. Or maybe just maybe his team just wasn’t as good.

  141. Jean Lafitte Says:

Jameis’s last pass for the season ..pick 6 and 30+ million contract

    only in Bucville

  142. JimmyJack Says:

Stangglass…….I do agree with you about the turnovers coming down going into a 2nd year. And I’m very confident that our defense will also be quite good. I do think we got the right mix to contend for playoffs next year.

I’m am just concerned and not very trusting how our QB will respond. We get into a big December or January game and Winston will absolutely have to be able to handle the pressure or he’s got no chance………And I never questioned his ability under pressure. Never thought I would.

  143. JimmyJack Says:

Yes sure NDog……Brady never won a game in the last minute. Good grief dude how dense are you.

But yes let’s judge his clutch ability on a drive from his own one yard line with 13 seconds on the clock………let’s judge all QBs but that situation.

  144. Stanglassman Says:

NE also had the best defense arguably in the NFL and not a bad run game. Not much production out of the WRs. It’s not always just the Qb.

  145. Jean Lafitte Says:

imagine if Brady had our wideouts

  146. Jean Lafitte Says:

    Good night Irene

  147. Stanglassman Says:

Jimmyjack. We’re not going to agree on Jameis suddenly becoming a choker. I do think in those game late in the year hopefully we’ll be able to run the ball consistently like the good teams do and take some of the pressure off the Qb whoever it maybe.

  148. Stanglassman Says:

Brady might put them both in the probowl.

  149. Stanglassman Says:

Grabel is a genius because Tenn is finally handing the ball off to Derek Henrey like they should have been for years.

  150. JimmyJack Says:

All good Stanglass…….I’m actually glad a lot of fans don’t agree with me. Like I said. I hope I’m wrong and hope Winston prooves it…….And I’m pretty sure the Bucs will address the RB position in this off-season. Mesh that with bringing back our defense and it’s pretty easy to be optimistic.

  151. catcard202 Says:

    Stanglassman….

I hear ya…JW3 will be back on a TAG, unless he’s willing to re-up for Nick Foles money. Regardless, I’d still look to draft a QB early in 2020….

Herbert in the 1st or Fromm / Eason if either were to slip into the mid-2nd…Not a Tua, Hurts or Love fan… Only see Burrow / Fromm / Eason as true NFL quality QB prospects worth investing in. Burrow is going to CIN @ #1 & I’ll wager $$$ that the LAC move up from #6 to DET’s #3 to get Herbert. IND, NO or NE will snag Fromm..(Low risk QB selection!)…So, best case scenario is Eason sliding to Bucs in 2nd. No other QB’s in this draft excite me or looks like 1st/2nd round talents to me… Tua too small & injury prone to trust after the hip injury. Love is Utah St’s version of JW3 2.0 (high INT/TO ratio). Hurts is an ATH/RB playing QB.

On S & RB….I’m expecting to see Licht target small school Hybrid S prospect Kyle Dugger from Lenoir-Rhyne (school that I’ve never heard of before), in the 4th Round…Dugger is an athletic freak / tweener that fits Bowles Hybrid S/LB role perfectly. Licht ALWAYS reaches for at least 1 high quality small school prospect. Will be 2 in 2020.

Knowing RB value in BA’s eyes, I’m going into the off-season fully expecting the FO to look to fill RB void in the 6th or later, where guys like BC’s AJ Dillion or Vandy’s Keshawn Vaughn will likely be sweating bullets waiting to hear their names called. Or wait it out & look for a solid UDFA after the draft is over…(Both Dillion & Vaughn are late round bangers that I suspect will turn into day 3 pick success stories. Either would be welcomed additions to the RB room.)

  152. Adrnagy Says:

Not impressed by the qb’s play that played today. Ryan Tannehill was the worst. Imo. Must be nice to not carry the team.

Also Allen. Watson won’t last long in this league if they keep taking hits.

  153. cmurda Says:

Josh Allen? Pfft. 24-46 264 0 TD’s 0 Int. 1 Fumble lost. He came out of the gate strong with a 41 yard run and a TD catch on a trick play but after that, nothing. There’s no way I would be more excited about Josh Allen than Winston. If I were Buffalo, I’d be a little nervous. Not only did our QB fail to ice the game multiple times, but the offense couldn’t do enough in the 2nd half to win the game. 16-0 halftime lead and it was done in the beginning of the 4th quarter. You’d hate to waste the years of having a great defense with a pedestrian offense.

  154. sincethebeginning Says:

I’d like us to get a hungry young tackle in round 1, thank you very much. Dotson needs to shift to a backup role ASAP.

  155. SteelStudBuc Says:

Ndog you must be retarded… open your eyes and take the wax out dem ears.

  156. SteveK Says:

    Stanglassman,

Jameis threw a pass to Godwin to beat the Saints in Week 17 of 2017. It cost us the opportunity to draft Q Nelson. Vea is a good player so we are ok. It does suck that are team falls out of contention and the celebrates winning meant less games. I’d take the generational talent at OG in Nelson, over a meaningless victory in the middle of a 12 year playoff drought.

  157. Joe in Michigan Says:

I also like the thought of getting an O-Lineman in the 3rd.
    Something like:
    1st) Edge rusher
2nd) RB (we have the 45th pick, exactly were Derrick Henry was taken)
    3rd) OL
    4th) QB or DE/DT
