Back-to-Back Weekly Honors
December 31st, 2019This could be a first.
Yes, hot dog eating contest-protesting, mock draft-scowling, L.L. Bean-wearing, Second Amendment abolitionist, Mike Florio-arguing, parrot-insensitive, chewing-with-his-mouth-open, soup-gulping, California train-romancing, anti-football proliferation, outhouse-admiring, airline-napping, steerage-flying, Yogi Berra-worshiping, urinal picture-taking, video game-playing, Taylor Swift-listening, pickpocket-thwarting, Bucs-uniform-frowning, Allie-LaForce-smitten, Big-Ten-Network-hating, pedestrian-bumping, olive oil-lapping, popcorn-munching, coffee-slurping, fried-chicken-eating, oatmeal-loving, circle-jerking, craft beer-chugging, cricket-watching, scone-loathing, college football-naïve, baseball-box-score-reading, NPR-honk, filthy-hotel-staying, fight-instigating, barista-training, Budweiser-tolerant, baseball scorecard-keeping, pasta-feasting, vomit-dodging scrooge, Kay Adams-following social activist NFL insider Peter King of NBC Sports has been typing a Monday morning football column on the interwebs for years dating back to his days at Sports Illustrated.
Remember CNN/SI? And as long as King has had his column, he has had a “Goat of the Week” that calls out a player key to his team’s loss.
Last week King handed the award to Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, for his four-pick performance in a one-score loss to the playoff-bound Texans.
Yesterday, Jameis may have become the first player in the history of the column to get the award twice, as Jameis’s final play of the season was — all together now — a pick-six. And King was appalled.
Jameis Winston, quarterback, Tampa Bay. How perfectly fitting. Winston’s 30th interception of the season came on the last play of Tampa Bay’s season and on the first play of overtime. Winston stared down tight end Cameron Brate, fired a pass to him at the Bucs’ 28, and Deion Jones stepped in front of Brate on not a particularly great play, picked it off, and ran it back for a walkoff pick-six. For the year, Winston, angling for a $30-million-a-year contract, became the first quarterback in history to have a 30/30 season: 33 touchdown passes, 30 interceptions and a gaudy 5,109 yards . . . and seven pick-sixes. Tom Brady has one in the last two years. Winston’s 30-interception season is the first in the NFL since 1988.
And of course, Jameis’ detractors are having a jubilee, all but ready to dance on his grave.
If Jameis comes back to the Bucs next season — even Jameis admitted he has no idea if that will happen — a word of advice to Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich.
Quit having Jameis throw short passes to the sidelines. Even Joe can see those plays are doomed. Whether Leftwich and his offensive assistants are not coaching receivers up to run those plays or Jameis cannot throw them or both, the answer is simple.
Knock it off!

bucland is like a shantytown full of shenanigans…
why is it like this…???
it’s not this crazy for any of the other 31 teams
December 31st, 2019 at 8:14 am
Here is a word of advice. Don’t blame the coordinator for calling a basic football play that even scrub QBs with a dose of common sense and situational awareness can run without throwing picks sixs and INTs. Why you blaming play calling. Do you ask the coordinator not to call a run up the middle when the running back fumbles on a run up the middle? I think that falls on the player not the OC.
December 31st, 2019 at 8:16 am
Jameis needs a mixture of screens, dumps and deep passes early in games….although it was OT……it, again was like a starting series…..I simply don’t think he reads defenses well or he reads them and throws anyway…..Brate was covered.
December 31st, 2019 at 8:22 am
well, if he doesn’t throw to the sidelines, but also can’t see underneath coverage, I guess we just throw deep or a screen every passing play?
December 31st, 2019 at 8:23 am
great idea, erase part of the playbook because your supposed FRANCHISE QB can’t do it.
December 31st, 2019 at 8:25 am
Never doubt what a 30-30 man can do!
December 31st, 2019 at 8:27 am
And of course, Jameis’ detractors are having a jubilee, all but ready to dance on his grave.
Nobody wants to dance on Winston’s grave.
Speaking for my self and I’m sure many others all we want is to win, and Jameis doesn’t deliver. It doesn’t make a fan a bad fan because they want to move on. Especially after 5 seasons.
December 31st, 2019 at 8:32 am
Just another and one of many embarrassments for the Bucs thanks to Mr. Jameis Winston.
And the Bucs wonder why their fan base is dwindling……………….
December 31st, 2019 at 8:34 am
And there it is. This is the moment where the “Arians/Leftwich didn’t play to Jameis’ strengths” rhetoric starts.
December 31st, 2019 at 8:35 am
Regardless of all the jameis hater… and the 30/30 talk…. he is gonna silence everybody with 30td, 30ints and $30mil. Regardless lf what anyone of us on this website thinks… they call the shots not us. BA has all yall on a string… he makes it look like he wouldve benched jameis if gabbert was healthy, yet he also said early this year the he has 100% confidence in ryan griffin and thinks he would be a great qb in this league. Why not bench jameis for griffin?
BA is here for Jameis and not yall fans… you have a better chance of finding a new kicker who has lost us 3 games instead of a QB. If you dont wanna be dissapointed stop wasting your time with the jameis hate. #3 will be in a buc uniform for years to come
December 31st, 2019 at 8:36 am
Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow appears destined for the awful Bengals, as previous Heisman winner Kyler Murray was sentenced to Arizona, and Baker Mayfield consigned to the Cleveland Browns. Each year we take America’s top college quarterback and force him to play NFL defenses the next year with no one blocking for him. In terms of cruelty, it’s JUST this side of cockfighting.
December 31st, 2019 at 8:38 am
Nonsense Joe
You did he can’t throw down field, knock it off you said. He improved there, now this? C’mon bro… can’t scrap part of the playbook cause he cam read.
I don’t want him back but if he’s here I’ll root for him.
No QBs with his numbers (5,100yds) are in the playoffs. Not een close. Yards mean nothing. Empty calories. If it’s him or JPP, Suh and Perriman, that’s a HELL NO for me. He let us down… PERIOD. So while he production may no be replaceable, who cares? You, Ndog and a couple others.
Winning is all that matters
Go BUCS
December 31st, 2019 at 8:41 am
Why don’t we just get a QB that can make all the throws. Cutting out the out passes is not good advise especially when we need to move the ball and stop the clock.
December 31st, 2019 at 8:46 am
correction* advise = advice
December 31st, 2019 at 8:48 am
If you cant throw a short pass to the sideline you have no business making 30 million, even ryan Griffin can throw that. He’ll come back next year but thankfully he threw that pick 6 and if they invest long term into this guy the glazers get what they deserve.
December 31st, 2019 at 8:51 am
Also who made BA this “whisperer”. Carson palmer threw a career high 22ints in his first year under BA and was sacked most in the NFL 47times.
2013: Palmer 22ints under BA first year
2002: tim couch 21ints under BA first year
2003: tim couch 18ints under BA
1998: manning 28ints with BA as his qb coach first year
2019: jameis 30ints under BA first year
2012: andrew luck 18ints under BA first year
So I ask again.. look at those numbers…. who made Bruce arians a QB “whisperer”.
When BA won a superbowl in 2006 he was the WR coach and in 2009 he was the offensive coordinator when they Won. Manning won after BA was gone, and no other qb has won SHXT with BA. So I ask for one last time…
Who made BA a QB Whisperer????
December 31st, 2019 at 8:55 am
BA qbs always lead the sacks and turnovers.. the guy aint no damn whisperer.. the best coach for jameis wouldve been Jon gruden.. who has a history of making guys like Tim Rattay look like they belong in the league
December 31st, 2019 at 8:57 am
But I thought he was a PRO-READY?
How can this be?
ndog needs to set PK straight …… it wasn’t JayMiss’s fault.
December 31st, 2019 at 8:59 am
You’re right Jameis will be back unless Licht gets fired. Don’t see that happening after the Glazers gave Licht a nice extension before the season.
Jameis will be back but Licht hurt his leverage defending Jameis with his burner account. Jameis’s camp is demanding more than the tag. If Licht had stayed somewhat neutral he would’ve had more leverage. Jameis has been listening to Licht and it’s a reason why Jameis aggrandized himself in his last presser.
I think Jameis will get his 30+ million a year
December 31st, 2019 at 9:04 am
I would love to see Joe Burrow tell Cincinatti to forget about drafting me or I will sit out a year.
Taysom Hill is an RFA and Bucs should sign him to an offer sheet. Hill can throw and he is the fastest QB in the league NFL offenses are gravitating to the dual threat QB. C’mon Bucs and be ahead of the curve for once.
December 31st, 2019 at 9:06 am
I think obssessed joe gets the goat award
When jameis plays good its “where are the haters at?” Laughing at people
When jameis is plain jameis , its his vision , defense fault , kicker . Same ole jameis. Year 6 is the year. Its not like anyone else is out there . 😂
He actually thinks jameis is Mr excitement. Now Thats embarrassing. Dont worry jameis will be back. More excuses coming your way
Same old joe forcing jMeis down our throat cause he is gonna write about his man crush.
I think its time for logical joe and ira to step in and get other joe some professional help. Straight jacket maybe ?
No worries …im in moderation …in the cooler.
Scared scared
December 31st, 2019 at 9:07 am
TampabayBucsfan – right on. He doesn’t read defenses well He is not cerebral in his actions. He forces the ball, sometimes he wins (33 tds) and sometimes he looses (30 Int’s).
While some people are amused by JW, I don’t think the coaches or the fans are.
How many coaches does it take to coach out bad decision making? And I can promise you this coaching staff will outlast JW if he doesn’t get it corrected.
In BA I Trust!
December 31st, 2019 at 9:14 am
King is wrong here, Bucs had nothing really to play for, if Gay hits 1-2 FGs, this is a non conversation. How bout Brady throwing a pick 6 or the Pats defense allowing the fins to drive down the field for the winning score – they were playing for 2 seed and home field – that’s your goat of the week
December 31st, 2019 at 9:17 am
The quick out is one of the most scouted passes NFL coaches are looking for draft prospects to be able to make. It is called an NFL play. One where a QB needs to have some zip on it to make it work. Jameis just doesn’t have the zip on his throws. Now let’s all say his thumb is why no zip on the passes. We all love excuses.
December 31st, 2019 at 9:17 am
Jameis just likes to spread the ball around. He prefers to play for both teams on offense and defense on the same snap. Why should he limit himself by throwing to only one team…
December 31st, 2019 at 9:28 am
Maybe its just his bad eye sight.
December 31st, 2019 at 9:32 am
I would argue the 5100 yards will be forgotten by September, but the 30/30 will be a trivia question for years to come. In the modern era 5000 yards is an accomplishment, but 30/30 is truly astonishing, and how he will always be remembered.
December 31st, 2019 at 9:32 am
Oh yeah, King last week against the Texans, calling JW the goat, if Brate makes a catch that hit him in the hands, could’ve been a different outcome. They just see INTs and not seeing what happened the rest of the game.
December 31st, 2019 at 9:36 am
i dont think any true buc fan first is happy jameis is this turnover prone; i think we all wanted jameis to succeed and be the man; but like dilfer, vinny and freeman he isnt. No dancing on the grave; bucs fans want to end this 15 year nightmare. Send licht & jameis packing and get a vet qb, build the trenches, get a 20 carry nfl RB; get delpit or a veteran nfl safety, sign the front 7 and get a flippin nfl kicker… then dance on dale mabry
December 31st, 2019 at 9:38 am
On a note. 12 times a quarterback had thrown for over 5000 yards, three most interceptions thrown in those seasons was 19! Several of those quarterbacks also threw for over 40 touchdowns. Three reason three 30/30 club is so rate is because most coaches wouldn’t continue to trot out a quarterback throwing that many picks.
December 31st, 2019 at 9:51 am
Taysom Hill is the ANSWER to our prayers , he is an RFA and could be had as the starter for about 7-8 mil a year for 3 year deal. Kid can freaking throw and he is the fastest QB in the league , not to mention a model citizen.
December 31st, 2019 at 9:54 am
Rrsq,
Dude! No one else is allowed to make a mistake bc Jameis makes so damn many. It’s frustrating as hell to see teammates be crucified for single mistakes when Winston commits exponentially more. And the apologists excuse them.
December 31st, 2019 at 10:32 am
goat of the week actually should be pete carroll and that stupid delay of game penalty. this is classic click bait. bad throw but overall the repercussions compared to playoff teams was not as bad. joe ive said time and time again nobody cheers against jameis. we all want the team to win. if people cheer against winston then they are not real fans and can walk the plank. i hope you do realize that.
December 31st, 2019 at 10:37 am
Folks, it’s more than just Jameis can’t see the coverage.
Jameis can’t see PERIOD!!!
He’s near-sighted!!
Get this dude some goggles or contact lenses!!!
So if he throws 10 yards from where he is, that’s 30 feet…
If he has blurry vision when it comes to seeing his own receiver, then he sure as heck as going to have blurry vision when it comes to a defender in the area.
It’s SIMPLE here!! Talk about not seeing the field…Jameis literally CAN NOT cuz he’s near-sighted.
I can’t believe this hasn’t been addressed!!
December 31st, 2019 at 11:01 am
Every day the defense of WinSTUNNED lives here. Leftwich fault for calling up those passes? Ridiculous! He sucks, any way you want to spin it. Will never take this team anywhere. END THE MADNESS! BE GONE WINSTUNNED!
December 31st, 2019 at 12:22 pm
Can’t put every loss on Winston. Yes he had a chance against the Dixie chicks to bring us back an he starred down Brate an the ball got tipped a tiny bit to lose us the game. He’s done this before several times but if our defense improves the way they are an we can give him a little bit of a running game I think we can make the playoffs. My only concern is if we make the playoffs how will Winston handle it. NDOG go back into history an look at all the super bowl winning teams an see if any of them win with the turnovers that happen. They don’t. Winston has great production but that doesn’t translate to Super Bowls wins tom Brady has never lead the league in anything in a season yet he wins SB like they are going out of style why cuz he protects the ball knows wen to throw it away or take a sack
December 31st, 2019 at 12:45 pm
OC calls a simple play that has been practiced for months, players have to make that play. Blaming the OC is just ridiculous. Lasik surgery is the answer. Lol.
December 31st, 2019 at 1:24 pm
He deserves 30 million in honor of his 30/30 performance.
Reminds me of VJax 555 deal in honor of Freeman
December 31st, 2019 at 2:16 pm
Need more Benn’d Around. 😂😂😂 not
