Ex-Bucs Vying For Receivers Coach Position

The Bucs’ soon-to-be open wide receivers coach position could go to Ike Hilliard or Keenan McCardell, so reports Woody Cummings, Bucs beat writer for the Tampa Tribune.
Hilliard’s agent, Jonathan Feinsod was seen talking to Mark Dominik several times during an East-West Shrine Bowl practice on Monday and McCardell planned to talk with the Bucs GM about the opening as well.
McCardell, 40, has been working hard on his coaching resume since retiring in 2007, tutoring the New York Giants’ receivers during 2009 training camp. And he was a featured guest of Raheem The Dream last summer at One Buc Palace.
Hilliard, still just 33 years old, was receivers coach for the Florida Tuskers of the UFL. He talked to the Orlando Sentinel about the experience in November.
Joe can’t help but think that Hilliard would be an incredible mentor for Sammie Stroughter and would bring a tremendous working knowledge of the offense.
That’s not to say McCardell isn’t qualified and motivated. Joe’s just hoping Dominik and Raheem The Dream make the correct choice.

I hope this isn’t just false rumors. Both of these guys lacked elite speed and size, yet figured out how to do the little things so well that they were great and very dependable. They could teach our young recievers so much.

Great article. I agree 100% that both of them would be great mentors to our young guys. Remember that McCardell has a Super Bowl ring, and once he left the game he enrolled in the Bill Walsh Coaching Program, to enhance his coaching skills. Kudos to Dominick if it goes through.
BTW, when are we going to start seeing some draft projections by Justin. Tell him to get moving, Im starting to get antsy. I still say WR in the first round.

I wouldn’t mind both of these guys coaching in Tampa. JDouble nailed it. We could use the type of players they were and if they can help Freeman have that type of receiver to throw to I’m all for it.

Not only would these guys show our recievers how to excell through hard work and attention to details, but they both could share reciever/coach insight with Freeman to help him better understand and communicate with his recievers.
Hopefully we sign one of these guys and then sign an Ex QB to coach Freeman as well. Rich Gannon has showed interest in coaching QBs.

You know, these 2 guys are more qualified to be the Head Coach of the Bucs than Raheem. I could stomach an ex-NFL player any day as an interim coaching solution vs. Raheem Morris. I find no excitement in a guy who was rushed to a HC job because he ‘knew the owners for 7 years’.

I say sign them both. There is plenty of work for both coaches. Ike is one of my all time favorite Bucs. I Like Ike, remember that one?

Either one would be a great addition to the coaching staff. I do like Ike; he was a class act while here as a player and would be a great role model for the junior WRs. He wasn’t the flashiest receiver on the field, but you could bank on him in a third down situation and that’s what our young QB needs – consistency and reliability in his receivers to build the trust factor.
