“He Works His Ass Off”

December 27th, 2019

Man, listening to this insider take on wide receiver Justin Watson, Joe has to wonder why Bobo Wilson was playing in front of him.

For those wondering, when Wilson was cut in October, he sat on the street for two months until the Panthers signed him to their practice squad two weeks ago.

Watson finally got a chance three games ago, and the second-year player out of the University of Pennsylvania has 12 catches for 119 yards and two touchdowns since he hit the field against Indianapolis on Dec. 8.

Mike Evans offered his opinion of Watson this week on Buccaneers Radio.

“He does it all; I mean, really,” Evans said of Watson. “He can play X or Z; he knows it all. He’s a really smart football player. And he improved so much from last season in just one year. He got in. He got the experience a little bit. Sat back, plotted, came back. He was better at the line of scrimmage on releases. He caught the ball better down the field, making big plays. He transformed his game a lot, man. He works his ass off. He can play all positions for us. And he’s been making plays when we give him the ball.”

If the Bucs can find a way to retain Breshad Perriman, then they certainly would be set at receiver for 2020, with Watson and Scotty Miller battling for the No. 4 and No. 5 receiver gigs.

Joe’s not sure Watson and Miller are ready for a true No. 3 role. But they are two more young Bucs on the rise and it feels good that the team has plenty of players in that category.

Having been a long time Bucs Fan, it seemed like we couldn’t get good WR’s in the draft or FA. Eg. Harper, Benn, Jacquez Green, Clayton etc. Now we are stocked!

    Bring back this D.
    Bring in a legit RB.
    Bring in a new RT.
Draft BPA with a slant towards Dline.
    Bring back entire coaching staff.

We will be set to take on all comers next year!

    Go Bucs!

    In BA I Trust!

it’s funny how injuries and what not have really clarified our 1-5

  3. adam from ny Says:

i think the bucs should put a giant statue of bruxelles peeing boy outside the stadium wearing a bucs helmet and doing his classic urinating…and underneath where the “water falls” should be the logo of the opponent we are about to play each week…

  4. Adrnagy Says:

Watson and Miller will be good. Miller is he stay healthy. Perriman idk. He was signed for 4m. How he has perform the last few games he’s going to ask for 6M+.

  5. Defense Rules Says:

Interesting, and quite a departure fron yesterday’s ‘Combo Package’ article about Jameis’ Pick-6 against the Texans (intended for Justin Watson). Seems like in there Leftwich used these words …

“It is a guy making a play on the ball,” Leftwich began. “It is probably ball location not where you want it and it is probably iffy if it should go there (to the intended target, Justin Watson).”

So Mike Evans credits Watson with working his ass off & making plays, and in another BL offers him up as the possible scapegoat for that Pick-6. Makes sense to me.

  6. adam from ny Says:

i’d sign perriman…i can help but thinking the idea of really spreading the ball around with the realistic potential of three 1,000 yard receivers…you can’t tell me someone high up in bucs brass hasn’t had the same thought…

imagine that…three 1,000 yard receivers…it would be totally wild

  7. adam from ny Says:

also bobo wison just looked kinda stagnant in his movements out there on the field…like he’s not really an nfl receiver…

watson looks a bit more polished out there and reliable of late…he looks like he really belongs in the league and is a real 3 or 4…

    same for miller too…

the truth is they have seemingly both turned a corner around the same time our defensive backs did

  8. Joe in Michigan Says:

We should be set at WR. If Perriman isn’t back, we’ll find another fast guy.
Starting to get interested in the 2020 Draft. I heard one of the Joes say on the podcast something about Grant Delpit, which would be a good pick. Another possibility…Some of the draftniks have Isaiah Simmons from Clemson listed as an OLB, some Safety. I read where one guy compared him to Lavonte David. Can you imagine having another player on our defense as good as David, playing Safety? That said, if he’s that good he’ll probably be off the board when we pick.

  9. ncbucsfan Says:

We need to bring in either a shifty RB or WR that can beat press man coverage underneath with something other than a screen or drag route. OJ Howard and Cam Brate are not doing it and can create separation. Deebo Samuel type!

RT has got to be the 1st pick. There’s depth this draft at.the position too!

Replace Jordan Whitehead. Good depth and tackler that plays hard, maybe even a good blitzer, but that’s the description of a good special teams player, not you’re starting SS.

Kareem Hunt needs to be a target of ours HANDS DOWN!!! No hesitations about it. No other RB (David Johnson, Leveon Bell in a trade, draft or otherwise. Kareem Hunt! Period!!

  10. German Buc Says:

Guys, if we talk draft let’s just stay with trenches, please!

  11. Runnerdoc Says:

Simmons isn’t gonna make it outside of the top 10. No
way. He won’t be a Buc.

  12. Joe in Michigan Says:

Why would we only talk about the trenches for the 2020 Draft? Who’s to say that’s even what the Bucs do in the 1st Round?
Agreed, Simmons probably won’t be there when we pick, but guys fall in the draft every year.

  13. Jgar Says:

    Jonathan Taylor round 2?

  14. Bucsfanman Says:

I never understood why Bobo was on this team.

  15. Casual Observer Says:

Really outstanding set of WRs. Just stay healthy.

  16. George Rauh Says:

Perriman I would let him walk. With 1 more off-season of growth Miller will not be much of a decline over Perriman but he will be 6 million cheaper

  17. 1Gr8Buc Says:

@Jgar… Absolutely if he lasts to that point. I could see him jumping into the first with a good combine. Would love him on this team!

  18. 813bucboi Says:

re-sign perriman….watson and miller will be great depth….

    R1-OL/DL(RT or DT)
    R2-DL/OL(DT or RT)
    R3-OLB/DE
    R4-OL(OT/OG)
    R5-RB
    R6-LB

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  19. Pete Mitchell Says:

I hate to even type it, but does anyone really think that Evans and Godwin will both be on the team in two years when Godwin’s rookie deal is up?

I think you have to keep Perriman so that you still have a number two WR when either Mike or Chris Godwin leaves/gets traded.

  20. PoundTheRock Says:

813bucboi is really solid with how draft should go down.

    R1-OL/DL(RT/DT/DE)
    R2-DL/OL(DT/DE/RT)
    R3-RB
    R4- OLB/DE
    R5- OL(OT/OG)
    R6-LB/S

RD 2 is all dependent on if a solid QB is available. If a QB (ex. Jake Fromm) is available you take him in Rd 2.

  21. 1sparkybuc Says:

Evans and Godwin will finish their HOF careers as teammates and Buccaneers.

  22. teacherman777 Says:

Extend Jameis and Godwin on the same day. Symbolic commitment.

Extend Godwin for the same contract as Mike Evans. Like the Browns with Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr.

Jameis: 5 years: 125 million: 25 million per year. Come on Jameis! Prove you are really a team player! You dont deserve top 10 money yet. Hopefully, when you are 30, after this contract, we will make you the highest paid QB in the NFL. If you get us to the NFC Championship by 2025.

5 more years! 5 more years!

Perriman will be too expensive. Hes playing like a 1st rounder.

  23. Colorado Says:

Perriman is NOT playing like a first rounder, first off.

  24. Coburn Says:

Only thing I ca think of is until Evans or Godwin got injured they wanted the other guy to be more the speedster type. Think Watson was always more there to replace wither of those two. Same reason they didn’t keep hump. So far I’ve like what I’ve seen in terms of tough concentration catches from watson

  25. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

All of this is starting to make lichte (however he spells his name) look like a genius!! The guy had gotten a lot of talent in this team!! They just needed a coach man!! Look at the huge turn around from the Rams! Fisher coached there for how long?? And AS SOON as he left the team was in the super bowl!!!….. Our main problem is not retaining Winston or the D-linemen.. It’s making sure this coaching staff says together! If they lose bowls or leftwich all this improving will be for nothing!!

  26. TOM Says:

For the long term I’d rather have Watson. Plus he’s a good on ST’s.

  27. #1bucfan Says:

Joe I think he’s ready to take on a larger role. I like Perriman an his speed but we have to be careful with the he money. Watson is cheaper an I think he has more upside. He might not be as fast as Perriman but he’s close an he’s a good blocker

  28. Wesley Says:

    Meh, he’s a quality XFLer.

  29. HeavyE Says:

Licht, will FU@K this team up!!!!!!!

  30. JameisAlmighty! Says:

Licht needs to investigate strength and conditioning… 3 WR with hamstring injuries. Not a coincidence…

  31. Buczilla Says:

Cool article and good to hear.
