The New Jedi Mindtrick
December 26th, 2019One popular national NFL columnist believes Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, is an NFL version of a Jedi.
In the “Star Wars” movies, Jedi are sort of a combination of philosophers, academics and warriors who espouse high-moral ideals and can use “the force” for good and for justice.
Mike Tanier of Bleacher Report sort of sees Jameis like that. Tanier noted that against the Texans, Jameis was trying to re-educate football fans and alter what they perceive as normal.
Per Tanier, Jameis had “the usual smattering of big plays that Jedi mind-trick observers into thinking that maybe opening every game with a turnover isn’t that big of a deal.”
Both Tanier and Jameis were right in the previous three weeks. Jameis’ earlier turnovers lately hadn’t been hurting the Bucs and even this grotesque first quarter last week wasn’t lethal. The game was tied at halftime.
Joe isn’t a huge “Star Wars” guy (may have seen three movies) so Joe had to research what a Jedi mind trick really is. What Joe found was that a Jedi approaches a weak-minded to “implant a suggestion” to follow.
So far, Jameis is 4-2 this season when he throws a pick in the Bucs’ first possession. No wonder Jameis claimed Bucco Bruce Arians Arians tells him after each pick to “Keep firing.”
If you win more often than you lose with early picks, right on man.

BS….
stop starring down WRs….
GO BUCS!!!!!
December 26th, 2019 at 10:24 am
Jw did just fine and we almost beat them using practice squad players. Yes Perriman,Howard and Brate are practice squad players including Barber and Rojo
December 26th, 2019 at 10:26 am
Maybe Jameis can Jedi mind trick the DBs to not cover the WR’s he’s starring at like Joe if he saw Rachael weis streaking makes across the football field then we might have a chance. Lmao
December 26th, 2019 at 10:30 am
anyone ever hear New England fans complaining that Brady has practice players on his offense. The great qB’s makes mediocre players look amazing but when you have a bipolar QB you never know which Version of Winston we are going to get. Therefore we look like crap with his over throws, interceptions and errant passes that make receivers have to be more flexible then a circus contortionist to catch one of his balls thrown behind his receivers.
December 26th, 2019 at 10:33 am
Here’s a mind trick. Franchise tag, so you don’t pull a Jedi Doug Martin trick.
December 26th, 2019 at 10:33 am
It’s not the INT itself, it’s the easy points for the opponent and playing from behind that creates an urgency and with that urgency comes more high risk throws to catchup. He will be franchises whether he likes it or not. He is not worth 30 so 27 will be the number for one more tryout to see if he can break the bad QB habits.
December 26th, 2019 at 10:43 am
Joe, so you’re saying, all the JW nuthuugers are weak minded? I couldn’t agree more.
December 26th, 2019 at 10:44 am
Bizarre… just because he D mans up and overcomes the adversity when playing garbage teams in no way means they can against a top flight team. But who cares about winning? Give Jameis a participation trophy.
December 26th, 2019 at 10:45 am
Joe – you keep saying “Winston’s early turnovers didn’t hurt the Bucs because we were tied at halftime” – What is wrong with having a 7 point lead at halftime? To say Winston’s turnovers don’t hurt the team is a totally ridiculous statement.
December 26th, 2019 at 10:46 am
No Jedi is JayMiss
December 26th, 2019 at 10:48 am
Throwing a pick 6 to start the game doesn’t hurt the Bucs chances of winning? Huh? How does this make any sense?
December 26th, 2019 at 10:51 am
Oh so yall were expecting 33-35 400+ 5 yes no ints with the players he was playing with?
Damn those high expectations what were yall life goals? I hope to hear from doctors, surgeons, and presidents and business owners not the usual guy who wants to judge athletes but cant “catch” a break in the fast food industry
December 26th, 2019 at 10:52 am
I just threw up in my mouth a bit after reading this.
December 26th, 2019 at 10:56 am
Jameis has too many turnovers to marry a long term commitment and contract. In this era of football nobody turns it over more. Pass.
December 26th, 2019 at 11:02 am
Yea yea yea. When JW is playing well. Someone else jacks it up. Brate drop for example. Been the story for last 12 years. One do well the other messes it up and vice versa
December 26th, 2019 at 11:03 am
rewatched the game
looks like there was a bit of wind combined with receivers that Jameis not used too that probably don’t run perfect routes, along with every one touching the ball being a second off along with the mindset that it is ok now to throw a pick in first series ledd to this game vomit!
December 26th, 2019 at 11:04 am
I’m with 813bucboi on this … BS.
Jameis has thrown 3 or more INTs in 5 games this year. Our record is 1-4 in those games. And the 1 game we did win (Colts) would’ve been a runaway if not for Jameis’ INTs.
o Game 1: 49ers … Loss (31-17) … 3 INTs (2 Pick-6; other in Bucs territory but defense held)
o Game 5: Panthers … Loss (37-26) … 5 INTs (2 TD/2 FG; all but 1 in Bucs territory).
o Game 10: Saints … Loss (34-17) … 4 INTs (1 Pick-6 & 1 other TD; only 1 in Bucs territory which led to the TD).
o Game 13: Colts … Win (38-35) … 3 INTs (1 Pick-6 & 1 other TD; 1 at midfield led to TD but defense held on other INT in Bucs’ territory).
o Game 15: Texans … Loss (23-20) … 4 INTs (1 Pick-6 & 1 FG; 2 of the 3 other INTs were in Bucs’ territory and defense held Texans to 1 FG on those 3 INTs).
So Jameis threw 19 of his 28 INTs in just 5 games. We lost 4 of those 5 games. Five of his 6 Pick-6’s were thrown in those 5 games. And as bad as our defense was in the early games, it’s bailed him out time & time again. He’s the one who’s let the defense down … not the other way around.
December 26th, 2019 at 11:09 am
Look at the teams he’s beaten when playing Santa and giving up points early. You can’t win against quality teams and turn the ball over like Jameis does.
December 26th, 2019 at 11:10 am
Gotta let this guy walk
December 26th, 2019 at 11:10 am
He’s not worth the franchise tag. Bring in a free agent for around 20 million and resign the defense.
December 26th, 2019 at 11:13 am
From Hard Knocks… “what cockroaches are doing, there?”
December 26th, 2019 at 11:15 am
The first three may not have been lethal, but the last one certainly was.
December 26th, 2019 at 11:17 am
At this point, I don’t know if Winston is the solution…but I KNOW drafting a first round QB is not. So baring a quality free agent or a trade, I’m sticking with Winston.
December 26th, 2019 at 11:25 am
I think John Romano wrote an interesting and accurate sentence to start his column this morning.
“No matter what you think of Jameis Winston you must admit this season has been unlike anything you’ve ever seen.”
True Dat!!! People have been searching for statistical evidence…possible 30-30 club..sheer number of turnovers…but that only tells half the story.
It’s the way JW has arrived after 15 games…the start of games with picks…picks at the worst times…picks that are just bizarre….all of this followed by some incredible performances to help erase some of his mistakes and get us within a win of mediocrity at .500.
If you read D.R.’s posts about how many of JW’s ints came in a cluster of just five games..we lost four. 19 of his 28 in five games. Get those down to just a pick a game and his total drops precipitously…half in fact just 14 and manageable.
Bottom line if we can just take out the extremes in JW’s play and even his season out our improving defense can do the rest.
December 26th, 2019 at 11:27 am
Problem is, every post here has a valid point.
December 26th, 2019 at 11:27 am
More like Wile E Coyote …
December 26th, 2019 at 11:33 am
Did you just defend INTs again, Joe? Why are you trying to Jedi-Mind Trick the readers by trying to convince INTs are no big deal.
December 26th, 2019 at 11:36 am
Do you see what this Joe did? He is saying that you are weak-minded if you believe that opening each game with a turnover is no big deal.
December 26th, 2019 at 11:38 am
Amen DR!!! Preach brother.
Not sure how Joe can even square his mouth right to say that Jameis’ turnovers didn’t hurt us.
December 26th, 2019 at 11:40 am
This is stupid. The only reason we were even competitive was because the defense played outta their minds. Obviously it still wasn’t enough after all the turnovers
December 26th, 2019 at 11:40 am
The Bucs have to draft a QB somewhere in the 2020 draft but I agree it cannot be with your first round pick. It’s very possible to find a quality player that doesn’t turn the ball over with reckless abandon in the later rounds. One that Bruce Arians likes.
December 26th, 2019 at 11:53 am
“Do or do not, there is no try!”
Unfortunately, Jameis thought Yoda meant interceptions!
It bears mentioning that EVERY player can be replaced. HOF QBs have come and gone in this league. Some even went to other teams, even traded. So, to think that another QB cannot do what Jameis has done, even better, is ludicrous.
The Bucs would be wise to draft a QB REGARDLESS of whether they re-sign JW. Who’s the back-up? Exactly.
December 26th, 2019 at 11:54 am
How many records have fallen this year alone? It CAN be done.
December 26th, 2019 at 11:58 am
The draft is not the immediate solution to the QB issue. Burrows, Tua, and Herbert are likely gone before we draft in Round 1. Eason might be available in rnd 2, but he needs some seasoning, Hurts is not the kind of QB that Arians is likely interested in. So that leaves us in round 3. Regardless, a rook ain’t gonna get us to the Promised Land NEXT year. That said, maybe the year after, if we draft a guy now. FAs @ QB are always thin, but we have have a stellar WR corps that makes us fairly attractive to the Tannehills of the world. I expect us to take a QB. Just one that needs some tinkering and is available in round 3 or later. Take Jameis for the Franchise tag, and he can’t quit turning the ball over, your promising guy from last year has had a year to learn, adjust and so on.

“Pay no attention, those aren’t the interceptions you are looking for……”
December 26th, 2019 at 12:06 pm
This is what you call a fluke stat. And btw I am tired of hearing “A rookie QB wont take us anywhere next year.”… Guess what, with the way things are looking, WINSTON isnt taking us anywhere near year or for the foreseeable future either…. With a rookie we might get lucky, you never know. But with Winston its painfully obvious what we are going to get.. More of the same. Turnovers, MAYBE a .500 record and another season of no playoffs.

Remember this is a team game and while the defense has played well lately they did blow the Giants game the Seahawks game, the first Saints game and the Titans game all in which we had a 4th quarter lead or were never in because the other team dominated the TOP. Everyone had had their hand in our 7-7 record to date. Blame the QB all you want for the 7th loss but the first 6 were a true team effort.
December 26th, 2019 at 12:08 pm
penguins from Madagascar ……….”you didn’t see anything” 🙂
December 26th, 2019 at 12:10 pm
Who cares about stats?????
I just want a QB who makes smarts decisions, protects the ball, and puts his team in the best position to win……..
…….and too many times Jameis doesn’t do this
5 Years of this going on is just too much
December 26th, 2019 at 12:16 pm
Also don’t forget these facts below each game that you conveniently left out
o Game 1: 49ers … Loss (31-17) … 3 INTs (2 Pick-6; other in Bucs territory but defense held)
Two picks were clearly not his fault. Barber poor route and off OJs hands
o Game 5: Panthers … Loss (37-26) … 5 INTs (2 TD/2 FG; all but 1 in Bucs territory).
One pick was 50/50 Jameis and Evans, one pick he was hit as he was throwing, one pick Mike quit on the route.
o Game 10: Saints … Loss (34-17) … 4 INTs (1 Pick-6 & 1 other TD; only 1 in Bucs territory which led to the TD). First pick was 100% on OJ, one was after he was hurt and was when Evans quit playing AGAIN.
o Game 13: Colts … Win (38-35) … 3 INTs (1 Pick-6 & 1 other TD; 1 at midfield led to TD but defense held on other INT in Bucs’ territory).
Yeah we win the game pretty much cause Jameis carried us so there’s that.
o Game 15: Texans … Loss (23-20) … 4 INTs (1 Pick-6 & 1 FG; 2 of the 3 other INTs were in Bucs’ territory and defense held Texans to 1 FG on those 3 INTs).
This game in my opinion was 100% on Jameis.

December 26th, 2019 at 12:24 pm
its simple…..
JW threw 4INTS 1 being a pick 6 and we lost by 3points…..
but yeah, no run game and brates drop cost us the game…..lol…..
GO BUCS!!!!!
December 26th, 2019 at 12:30 pm
Repeat after me “This is not the quarterback you are looking for”
Jameis was directly responsible for five losses this year. He gave the games away. That is worse than any of the rookie QBs in the league.
If those were wins, we would have a 10 win season. It is that simple, there is no need for bull schnitzel stats. He lost us five games. The Tampa Times says so.
December 26th, 2019 at 12:36 pm
Jameis sucks
December 26th, 2019 at 12:42 pm
Lamarcus if OJ is a practice squad player why wouldn’t Licht even listen to a trade offer From belichik? I’ll wait. Also the lions were basically all practice squad
December 26th, 2019 at 12:49 pm
Bucs been a Jedi mind trick since they won a SB (last playoff win) 17 years ago. Or how about since Gruden? How about that dubious honor of being the worst franchise of all pro sports?
That’s a Jedi mind trick on steroids. Forget ints
December 26th, 2019 at 12:53 pm
Jedi mind trick…lose every game you don’t need to make the playoffs, and win every game left, including the SB. THAT is a mind trick I’d be interested in.
This is almost a stooges gag where curly asks Moe to hold him back from the huge guy that is about to destroy him…. Hold us back, Jameis….hold us back.
December 26th, 2019 at 1:07 pm
NDog: so 12 of the 19 are on Jameis. Not an acceptable ratio to winning.
December 26th, 2019 at 1:10 pm
Jameis may stay but I do not get all the prognosticators on why they think Arians will only like a certain type of QB or may not want to work with a rookie. Where are they getting this idea? He has not said it. Oh right, he is too old to want to move on to a better quarterback because that takes time. Someone said that and you all believe it. HE HAS NOT SAID THAT EITHER.
He has shown an ability to adapt. His primary offense that he learned was the wishbone growing up. When he first got to the NFL, he was a running back coach and his teams were 4th, 10th and 3rd in his 1st three years as running back coach.
When Arians got Carson Palmer it was because he thought he was the better than the guy he had at Arizona. Shocker, a coach wanted to get better at a position and went forward and made it happen. On the Arizona squad in 2012 was Brian Hoyer, John Skelton, Ryan Lindley and Kevin Kolb. The free agents that year included Jason Campbell, Matt Moore and Rex Grossman. No wonder he wanted Carson Palmer even though Palmer was going to be 33.
He was QB coach of Indy when Peyton got there. Maybe he was just lucky but when he left on his 4th year, Peyton regressed.
I think BA has shown the ability to adjust. There are a lot more free agent QB’s than Winston this year and other guys that will be available by trade.
Maybe he wants Winston more than the rest of them but I don’t think anything tells us that he won’t try to upgrade there if he thinks someone like Tannehill or Dalton makes the team better.
He may not like either of those guys better than Winston but they are not too old as they will be 33 an 32 next year. The same age as when he got Carson Palmer.
He believes the first thing the quarterback has to understand is his protection, because the defense can always blitz one more guy then your linemen can block. Because of this the quarterback has to look and read what will coming from the opposing defense.
He writes “If a player had a bad game, I’m going to give him a beer and big sincere hug. If a player had a great game, I’m going to give him a beer and a big sincere hug.” Believing all of his players each gave it their best shot.
Saw this tidbit on Bruce Arians as well. He was the first white player at Virginia Tech to share a room with a black player. That player was James Barber, father of Ronde and Tiki.
December 26th, 2019 at 1:11 pm
No one wants another QB to take Winston’s place, because that QB won’t be able to do what Winston has done. Really? 6-10 2015, 9-7 2016, 5-11 2017, 5-11 2018, 8-8 or 7-9 2019. I hear y’all that Winston has set QB records with our franchise. When is all the Wins A Ton going to start happening? So all of our fans are scared to draft another QB this draft because that rookie QB wont be able to do what Winston has done. What has Winston done in his five seasons? ONE winning season out of five. Very very difficult to replace that. I guess. How well would the next QB be in his contract year with all those same “records”? Confident in his new contract? Or worried the Turk is going to come to his locker? Which is it? I know that Winston is the OG of Buccaneer “Saviors” drafted. Why can’t a rookie come in and have .500 season his rookie year? Or a double digit win season his second season, and consistently bring that “record” to our team season after season? Because of Winston’s QB IQ?
We have watched the same stuff different season for five seasons. Yes Winston has had many memorable moments as a Buc QB, but how many oh sh!t memories as well? Tough choice for the guy who put all that time in on the checking him out before the draft. But sometimes you have to swing the Ax. And move forward.
December 26th, 2019 at 1:16 pm
Ndog … “Everyone has had their hand in our 7-7 record to date. Blame the QB all you want for the 7th loss but the first 6 were a true team effort.”
You and I agree Ndog. Football is a TEAM SPORT & we win or lose as a TEAM in EVERY game. I’m not at all ‘against Jameis’ because I appreciate that he’s the one who handles the ball on virtually every offensive down. As a consequence, it should be expected that he’ll make more ‘mistakes’ than other offensive players. BUT … the odds are stacked against ANY team whose QB throws 3 or more INTs in a game.
Regardless of who’s ‘at fault’ for an INT, the RESULT is the same … odds are you’re gonna lose if you throw 3 or more INTs in a game. Funny thing about most football fans: they don’t like to see their team lose.
And BTW Ndog, I didn’t CONVENIENTLY FORGET to leave out those FACTS that you mentioned. Everything I commented WAS FACT. I’m just not a big believer in EXCUSES. For the most part, what you called FACT, I call EXCUSES. Example: “Barber poor route and off OJs hands”. How do YOU know what Barber’s route was supposed to be (speculation, not FACT). And yes, the ball went off OJ’s hands, but why? (neither of us know FOR CERTAIN, but lots of QBs are very good at throwing to where ONLY their receiver can make a play on the pass). Jameis is good about that sometimes; other times not so much.
December 26th, 2019 at 1:23 pm
NFL OBJECTIVE = WIN GAMES
JAYMISS WINSNOT = ARIEL ATTACK+INTERCEPTIONS+LOTS OF STUPID LOOKS = LOTS OF LOSSES
WHAT THE HELL LETS GIVE HIM 5 MORE YEARS AND ALL THE GLAZERS MONEY THERE DUMB AS A BAG OF ROCKS……..
December 26th, 2019 at 1:25 pm
They are not excuses when they are reality. If someone hits you in the back of the head your head is split open and you have to deal with the consequences but do you blame yourself? Is it an excuse that someone else did it or is it reality? It’s the same thing call them excuses but that also would be the next QB would have the same “excuses” because he had nothing to do with the TO in that case.
December 26th, 2019 at 1:27 pm
Winston is more like Jar Jar Binks than a Jedi. Hope for the best and that he does more good than blow everything up. “ Misa sorry throwing interceptions”
December 26th, 2019 at 1:30 pm
Come off JW jock strap, take 6 points off the final score?
The pick six cost the Bucs the game.
December 26th, 2019 at 1:38 pm
Jameis turnovers cost us the playoffs this year just as much as anything else.
It was by far his worst turnover season in terms of multiple games with 3+ turnovers and we lost most all those games.
December 26th, 2019 at 1:40 pm
NDOG
You point to individual plays that may have led to interceptions by players other than the QB. However, every team in the league has guys who make mistakes besides the QB.
By the way, the Bucs drop rate by their receivers is 3.6% which is 6th best in the league.
By the way, Winston bad throw percentage is 20.7% which is 2nd worst in the league.
Those things do matter for perspective. You are the one that leaves out perspective the most.
December 26th, 2019 at 1:42 pm
There’s only one question in my mind. That is can Winston limit the mistakes in his 2nd year running this offense?
Many fans so no after being seeing him for 5 years. That’s fair.
I think he can. Not sure if he will but think he can. Learning a new offense is a big deal. Their also are improvements if you look for them. For 1 the fumble problem is gone. For 2 the red zone problems are gone. For 3 the decision making is better.
The third point may be debatatable but it looks like to me the INTs are coming from bad throws and poor reads……The Texans game is a good example. The two picks on out routes we’re thrown late and/or off target. That’s just a pisspoor throw but the decision wasn’t awful if executed right…….Or look at all the LB picks he’s giving up lately. Those weren’t bad decisions they were bad reads. He didn’t see the LB dropping in coverage. That should be correctable.
But there’s a bottom line and it’s that Winston gotta get better. You get into a playoff game or a win to get in scenario & you can flush all the TDs and stats down the he toilet. They don’t matter. All’s that’s matters is your performance in that one game. And your not Winn ng many playoff game throwing 3-4-5-6-7 picks. It’s probably never happened and it never will.
December 26th, 2019 at 1:44 pm
Or the fumble by barber , or the fumble by dare , or Howard’s drop passes or Watson forgetting how to run will put 6 pts on the final score. You dumb. Lol

December 26th, 2019 at 1:50 pm
We suck. Even Evans gets lazy. Until everyone plays like LVD or Godwin we ain’t going anywhere. You see flashes either Jameis or secondary. but until all cylinders are running we will be slinging it.
Probably the two areas that played consistent are DLine and LB. #1 rush defense. And even white was hurt. LVD and minter played great.
December 26th, 2019 at 1:52 pm
If you could go back in time and give Jameis the same defense he has been playing with over the last 5-6 weeks he would have a winning record and would have learned earlier not to force throws. Its going to take a while to work 4 1/2 season worth of league worst defense out of Jamies mind. The guy is a winner, he’s just never had a winning team around him.
I will happily Take Jameis and his picks for the next five years. As long as Bowles stays at DC and Leftwich continues to improve. He needs to learn how to not tip off the defense its a running play. Wish the offense would run the ball in four wide sets more often.
December 26th, 2019 at 1:58 pm
really? throwing picks is early because of a 6 game sample? i still dont understand how the halftime lead was not “lethal”. turnovers are lost posessions either way and we spotted them 10-0 points. there is nothing positive to spin about turnovers. that is like saying oj howards fumbles this season have been ok like the first game since it was close at halftime or the second game against new orleans.
December 26th, 2019 at 2:00 pm
“he would have a winning record and would have learned earlier not to force throws”
My concern is he had a good D for weeks going into the Texans game, and had been in the same system all year to that point, and still turned it over like a mad man. No excuses for that one and it makes it harder to think he’s turning a corner/going to do better next year.
December 26th, 2019 at 2:01 pm
Peel it and eat it how you want it.
December 26th, 2019 at 2:05 pm
You can get away with throwing those early picks against really bad teams, like Winston has been going.
However, when you are playing against better teams or playoff teams, that’s a different story.
Can you play high quality or playoff calibre football that way? NOPE!
December 26th, 2019 at 2:06 pm
NDog it’s assinine to assign blame for each and every pick. More then half of this blame that you are assigning either shows up false on film or is highly debatable.
And yes it becomes a excuse when you say it matter of factly. Case in point the Barber pick vs San Fran. The tape clearly shows a major overthrow that Barber would have no chance to get no matter which route he runs………So even if he did run the wrong route the ball still sails over his head and gets picked. It’s obvisous to any person who objectively looks at the film that it was a bad throw reguardless of the route. For you to say the pick is only Barbers fault absolutely not a fact and now becomes a excuse………And hey same thing with the OJ pick. Yes, it is mainly on OJ but it still was not a good throw. You learn in High School not to throw balls high over the middle……The reason for that is because of what happened. An on target throw has no chance to get intercepted. Throw it high and it suddenly becomes a risky throw. That’s the nature of the QB position bro. They have the ability to limit almost most picks from ever happening……even know if they and not mostly caused by the QB.
Assinging blame is far from reality like you say………You have with these INTs as they come. Head on. And learn how to prevent them in the future. Not deflect blame and close your eyes to them.
But if your gonna try and assign blame for all these picks then at least be fair……Look up all the ones that didn’t get picked that was Winstons fault………That would be a fair study of the true play of or QB since that’s what you are apparently trying to do. At least do a fair study if that’s you thang.

Lord Corn…..That’s really the scariest part. Heard for years how Winston could win games with just a average defense. Right now he has better then average. This defense playing at a Top 10 level right now. Winston was winning against some below average teams but then as soon as we get into a big game where we can really proove some worth Winston has a mess in his pants.
Just one of them losses that kills confidence & trust. This team looks primed to make a playoff run next year so Winston will get a chance to redeem himself. Just hope he looks improved next year. If not I’m not sure we can expect Winston to deliver us a truely meaningful win.

the top quarterbacks in this league dont even have a fraction of the picks winston has. guess what? those teams have championships. that is bottom line

NDog………do you even watch the games. That INT to Howard was 90% on JW! I have Every Bucs game on my DVR and watch them all at least 3x. That pathetic lame duck that he threw to Howard was Horrible ball placement. Granted Howard didn’t have to try a circus catch but that is life with a QB like Jameis

*************************************************************Of the 28 INTs, 6 were Pick-6’s (42 points), 6 resulted in our defense surrendering TDs (another 42 points), 4 resulted in our defense holding the opponents to FGs (12 points), and our defense held on the other 12 INTs. So Jameis’ 28 INTs resulted in our opponents scoring 96 points … ALL TAGGED AGAINST THE BUCs’ DEFENSE I might add.
But wait again, there’s even more. Of Jameis’ 22 INTs that DIDN’T result in a Pick-6, 15 of those 22 INTs resulted in our opponents getting the ball on OUR side of the field, almost always ALREADY in FG territory. That’s right Rod, OVER TWO-THIRDS of the time they got the ball in Tampa territory pretty much in FG range BEFORE our defense even took the field.

Winston should be left to walk. There’s no teams out there just waiting to pick him up. Don’t resign him for another year of agony.

ndog still swinging on a rope from Winston nuts.
Dude, wake up. 5 years and he’s a certified loser.
December 26th, 2019 at 3:41 pm
That’s like 25% of total points allowed
1 in every 4 points is Winston’s fault
December 26th, 2019 at 3:48 pm
Why am I the only objective one on here? To say either one of the picks to OJ this year was not OJ’s fault simply proves you are not objective. One he was falling forward for no reason and the ball hit both his hands and the other hit him right in the hands and he lost it behind his back, which is one of the ones inside our own 20 that Jameis gets the blame for in a post above. I am critical and not supporting anyone one player I just want the proper blame to be given. I blame the QB when it’s his fault, I blame the oline when it’s their fault, I blame the WR when it’s their fault and I blame the defense when it’s their fault. That’s what someone that understands football and wants to actually get better does. They don’t just blame one person and call every other issue excuses.
December 26th, 2019 at 3:48 pm
How can anyone spot opponent’s 7-14 points directly due to INTs and say its not a factor, it certainly is. All these high yardage quarterbacks are losing:
Winston, Prescott, Rivers, Goff and Ryan.
While the guys throwing for less yardage but more than half as many interceptions are in the playoffs:
Wilson, Maholmes, Watson, Brady, Wentz, Rogers. They DON”T throw a lot of picks. Our QB does. They win, we lose.
As football fans we can never accept losing and to keep this “Groundhog Day”
loop where 4 or 5 games a year are lost because of turnovers and losing the field position game, is driving me bonkers!
December 26th, 2019 at 3:50 pm
I kinda hope he gets that 30 INT mark, and the door hits his ass on the way out.
December 26th, 2019 at 3:51 pm
@Lamarcus
Much more than 10% of the fan base wants Winston gone.
Your 10% analysis might show how much you are paying attention to what is actually going on.
By the way, the Bucs drop rate by their receivers is 3.6% which is 6th best in the league.
By the way, Winston bad throw percentage is 20.7% which is 2nd worst in the league.
December 26th, 2019 at 3:52 pm
How about along with looking at how many points for the other team the QB contributes to also look at how many points he is responsible for us. Cause good bet without him and this passing offense as a whole we would have 4 less wins. But see those FACTS hurt the narrative so they get left out.
December 26th, 2019 at 3:53 pm
NDog: using your previous comments on the int’s, 7 were either the WR’s fault or the OLine. The remaining 12 were on #3. Again, recipe to an “L”.
December 26th, 2019 at 4:07 pm
Interesting how about 4 out of 5 posts here seem to agree there is something very wrong with spinning the narrative that our QB situation is fine. No it isn’t.
Throwing interceptions is very, very bad when you are a professional quarterback. Most of them that throw them as often as Jameis are benched.
We just happen to have a GM that picked the worst quarterback draft of the past 5 years to select the number one pick with. A player that is difficult to coach the mistakes out of. A player who hasn’t improved, although the talent around him certainly has.
Sometimes a change is good for people. Everyone knows you can’t win the NFC South as long as Sean Payton and Drew Brees are together, just like the AFC East is the Bill & Tom Brady division. Only way is to get to 10 wins.
With Jameis slinging all these turnovers 10 wins isn’t happening.
December 26th, 2019 at 4:10 pm
NDog: trying to be rational here. Believe me, to start with a Rookie QB or a QB with less upside or past his prime could set us back. However, on a recent post, the direct results of his INT’s is 96 points or 6.4 points to the opposition after 15 games. With loses we have had that are less than a touchdown, how can you rationally state he is not the main contributor? I guess the question is how do you fix this after 5 years?
December 26th, 2019 at 4:19 pm
Ndog,
I have honestly appreciated your recent willingness to truthfully evaluate Winston. However, Fitzpatrick was also able to set records with these offensive players. As I’ve said in other posts, I am not asking for Fitzmagic back, I’m saying that Winston is replaceable. I hope that we replace him.
Respectfully,
Wantsta

But, but, but ……….yards?
Of the top five QBs in the NFL for passing yards (all over 4000 yards),
not a playoff spot among them.
But, but, but ………. INTs don’t matter.
Of the top 6 QBs in INTs for 2019, not a playoff spot among them.
In 6th place for most INTs is Matt Ryan with 14. JW3 has TWICE that number.
Of the top 20 QBs with the most INTs in 2019, only 4 of them are in the playoffs.
All four of those (Garoppolo, Watson, Allen, and Brady) have thrown TWICE as many TDs as INTs. i.e. they all have a TD/INT ratio of at least 2:1!
The Bucs have had 38 giveaways (INTs and FUMs lost, WORST in the NFL), which means that 19.8% of all offensive drives ended in a turnover. Roughly one of every 5 drives!
The only reason the Bucs’ record isn’t even worse, is that the defense had 27 takeaways, which was sixth best in the NFL.
But, but, but……. we couldn’t possibly do better than Winston?????

December 26th, 2019 at 4:52 pm
So SB you think Lamar Jackson could even be close to producing in this style offense as Jameis? If you do then you are more CLUELESS than I thought. Wentz can’t stay healthy with an elite oline most of the time so how would he survive here and Murray has played well but he has to little game tape to compare yet. Dude Lamar Jackson seriously, they changed entire team so he could succeed and he’s great in that offense, but make him throw 3rd and 10 or more a few times a games and you get complete garbage. Please oh please try to tell me I’m wrong, I bet even the biggest Jameis haters out there would tell you how lost you are.
December 26th, 2019 at 5:09 pm
NDog you really think you are being objective? In the words of Gerald McCoy don’t make me laugh.
Your actually being quite narrow minded to actually believe there is one person and one person only to blame for each bad play.
Just like SB said with the OJ circus catch INT. I for one don’t remember it being a poor throw but would be willing to reconsider that maybe it was a problem despite what I remember. Cause maybe I was pissed at OJ on that play and it clouded my assessment. You on the other hand wanna dig your heels in on blaming only one player for each INT and refuse to listen to reason. That’s not being objective bro. Not even close.
Just like I said about the Barber INT vs San Fran……There’s more to one working part of that play if you cared to look for it.
The best example brought probably the OJ pick vs San Fran. Cause it’s the easiest to look at and see. The ball was clearly high & the ball should clearly have been caught. While OJ had the biggest error and was the bigger reason for the INT it’s undenayable that Winston could of placed the ball in a better spot limiting the risk. And I don’t remember but their may have even been a bit of pressure on that play too which can always be a factor.
Sorry but the answers aren’t always quite so simple like you try to put them and theirs usually more factors involved then blaming one player solely and wiping your hands clean.
December 26th, 2019 at 5:13 pm
Yet JimmyJack people like you count Jameis TOs and talk about them constantly like they are 100% his fault. Yet I am not objective. Pot meet kettle my friend.
December 26th, 2019 at 5:35 pm
Well I guess you can’t even objectively read my post because I clearly pointed blame to multiple factors for every INT discussed.
Calling me out for 100% blame on Jameis is entirely made up on your end.
Sorry bud but I don’t play this blame game that goes around here. I criticize the players that I notice playing poorly & I do so separately. And yes I have been critical of Winston many times in the past and that because he played like crap. And yes you have called me a hater for doing so which all’s that tells me that in your mind Winston is above critism.
I’m sorry that Winston’s poor play has contributed to losses many times over the years and that you can’t seem to understand this. And yes, I did actually use the word contribute because posters like you wanna call everybody out on a technicality when all’s we are doing is venting…..So I make sure to phase it properly………But go ahead and ignore it anyways like you always do and tell me how I’m blaming the QB for everything.
Enjoy yourself
December 26th, 2019 at 6:31 pm
JimmyJack your history speaks for itself, you have blaming the QB with multiple posts over and over again. Act like you haven’t now but trust me I know who says what around here and you are one of the first to play the blame Jameis for everything game.
December 26th, 2019 at 6:50 pm
NDog………Jameis was given EVERY opportunity to succeed in the NFL. His Offensive weapons are Evans and Godwin are FAR better than what Lamar has to work with. Lamar on the other hand was being persuaded to play WR.
NOW Baltimore is probably heading to the SuperBowl and He is setting ALL kinds of records. The GOOD kind!!!!!! Not INts and Pick 6 records.
If you think JW is anywhere Near the QB Jackson is then I am done reading your posts. I was already close to it.
“but make him throw 3rd and 10 or more a few times a games and you get complete garbage.”
Just more supposition by a CLUELESS poster.
December 26th, 2019 at 6:54 pm
For 5 years, Jameis has been great and he’s been awful.
This is who he is. Entertaining maybe, but championship play? No.
And he’s not going to change. Houston game showed that.
The responsible thing to do is draft/ sign an alternative if it becomes apparent next year that his QB play is hurting the team.
December 26th, 2019 at 6:55 pm
I mean I have COMPLETELY supported JW since draft day despite my college affiliation. Once a player puts on a Bucs Uni I don’t give a F where he came from he has my support. I have supported him locally where I am the ONLY Bucs fan in town. However I am not wearing beer goggles anymore. Should he come back? Probably on a Tag. Hoping that MAYBE he can see the light in his SIXTH year.
That said if you think he is better than Jackson or Mahomes then you need to take up watching Professional Knitting as your sport.
December 26th, 2019 at 7:04 pm
So Lamar Jackson in his first 22 games is 19 and 3 as a Starter.
42 TDs to 9 NINE ints. with a 64% completion ratio and you think JW is Better???????
OH and he leads the league in TDs and Rushing yards by a QB.
You MUST be an FSU Homer or the dumbest Bucs fan that posts here. Next to Tmax that is

Ndog so what you want me to defend myself here or what? Ahhhh yeah I’m cool bro. If you wanna think I’m just out to get Winston and blame him then you believe that.
I’m not here to have a pissing contest with you I was actually talking football ^^^up there^^^. Your trying to bring this to a wierd place.
I love a good back and forth and a good argument but that only happens if we stay on the subject at hand which was Winston INTs.
December 26th, 2019 at 8:21 pm
OK well since Joe’s “filters that he doesn’t control WordPress’ on suck so much I will repost the meat of my post that still isn’t showing
Lamar Jackson is 19 and 3 as a Starter that they wanted to make a WR.
He has 42 TDs to 9………NINE ints. (Jamies will throw that in TWO FRICKING GAMES) and he has a 63% Comp ratio.
Lol at comparing JW’s production to that.
December 26th, 2019 at 9:05 pm
