So what really goes on inside the Buccaneers’ locker room?
Joe can’t say with certainty, but it’s always intriguing when a respected player peels back the curtain a bit.
Mike Evans was on Buccaneers Radio yesterday and talked about team leadership.
“I would say Lavonte is our most vocal leader in the past couple of seasons. And he does it well. He gets right to the point,” Evans said. “You know, he gets right to the point and lets people know what it is. He’s been here the longest. So I feel like that’s a great role for him to have and he’s deserving of that role and he does a great job at it. I lead guys on offense, and on defense as well, at times. Just being an older guy and a guy on the team, you know, some people look up to, so I just try to do my best in that aspect.”
Some Bucs fans think Jason Pierre-Paul has been the top leadership voice of the Bucs for the past two years, and some might assume Jameis Winston has been that guy, but Evans went with David.
He also said rookie linebacker Devin White is “crushing it” in his leadership role. Evans added that White is all energy all the time, constantly talking about football and he makes Evans feel younger.
“He’s so happy, man, all the time,” Evans said of White.

We are definitely on the right track. Licht has laid down a fantastic foundation of young playmakers on both sides of the ball.

LD54 is more than just talk…he walks it too! So glad to see him thrive in Bowles D! And the snubs he gets are a disgrace, but thats ok. He just wants a ring….so stop wasting time Mr. Licht! Draft Love with our first and lets get this thing going in the right direction!! Time is ticking….cant waste this talent!

Great teams have more than just superior talent…they have great leadership.
It’s normally not just one guy…although obviously QB’s seem to inherit a large part of the leadership role. Still it’s better when numerous players are leaders. Think the Bucs SB defense.
I think this current group of Bucs can achieve that kind of respect for each other. When the true stars like Evans and Godwin are happy for each other’s success and the opposite of prima donnas it sends a great message.
LVD sends that same message to the defense. Picks his spots and leads with his play.

It’s always interesting the angry dullards on this board. They just seem like such amazingly unfun and uninteresting people. I get it, when I was 12 and the Bucs would lose, it would ruin my entire week. But I was 12.

You know, David gets no respect when it comes to the Pro Bowl, but seems like the folks over at NFL headquarters haven’t overlooked him. He was placed on their All-Decade team, along with Luke Kuechly (Panthers) and Bobby Wagner (Seahwks), pretty impressive company. The article said, “David may be the most underrated player on this entire list, earning only one Pro Bowl selection and one first-team All-Pro despite topping all off-the-ball linebackers in forced fumbles (20), tackles for loss (116) and solo tackles (709). Aside from David, the leader list in those first two categories is populated by the league’s dominant edge rushers, such as Miller and Watt.
