A 309-Yard Lead With One Game To Play
December 23rd, 2019The sting of 28 interceptions and 8 losses this season won’t make for the happiest of Christmases for Jameis Winston.
But one special 2019 gift appears to be on its way from Santa.
America’s Quarterback has 4,908 yards passing. That’s tops in the NFL and 309 yards more than Cowboys QB Dak Prescott. So barring a bizarre season-ending Sunday, Jameis will lead the league in passing and break the 5,000-yard mark.
Jameis reaching that milestone would cap off a truly bizarre season.
And if he throws two more picks, well, then he’ll be the first 30-30 man in NFL history (30 TD, 30 INTs).
Jameis has 31 touchdowns versus those 28 picks. Prescott has 26 TDs and 11 interceptions.
December 23rd, 2019 at 10:35 am
Franchise him or a 2-3 year team friendly deal with one year guaranteed. Please don’t put us in salary cap hell. We have too many other players to resign.
December 23rd, 2019 at 10:39 am
Jameis Winston is truly a Bizzarre specimen. But as a Tampa Bay buccaneers diehard fan, it is only right for me to want to see my organization win. Consistently turning the ball over statistically shows over the years that it results In loses! I’m sorry but it is time to want better in the Tampa Bay Area! If you feel this was a successful season you are clearly a part of the losing culture that the Buccaneers has offered us for the last decade
December 23rd, 2019 at 10:40 am
This is what happens when you’re officially eliminated from the playoffs. You chase stats!
You’ll have the usual:
“But he threw for 5 million yards!”
“The offense was ranked #1!”
“He broke record X, Y, and Z!”
So what does it really mean? At best we’re .500%. Yay! Mediocrity!
December 23rd, 2019 at 10:42 am
At this point in time i would seriously consider Cam Newton or a Justin Herbert, or even a Jalen hurts under the center next year! What do we have to lose?
December 23rd, 2019 at 10:45 am
Does Jameis get disqualified or moved to another category when he breaks the 30-30 threshold?
I think he will get that dubious trophy because the Falcons are on a roll and Jameis’ psyche must be very stressed. He has totally blown his audition season and will continue the trend on Sunday. It is going to be ugly.
Why even play Jameis on Sunday? It is time to move on and to do that the team needs to get on the road. It would also add credence to those who say the cracked thumb did it.
December 23rd, 2019 at 10:46 am
face facts — yards are meaningless stat
December 23rd, 2019 at 10:50 am
Well that is why he is Jameis ” meaningless stats ” Winston America’s QB, Mr. Excrement…
He has all the numbers and stats but yet…ya know, something just isn’t right… winning maybe? 28-41
Just 13 more wins and no losses and Jameis will be a .500 QB!
December 23rd, 2019 at 10:50 am
Am I the only one who sees yards as a nearly useless stat? When you have Brady with less than yds than JW this week, more TD’s and way less interceptions and oh by the way his team won!
Screw the yards total. Yes the rule changes have drastically promoted the passing game. Don’t breathe on the quarterback and PI changes.
All this to say, flouting total yds shows JW =‘s Fools Gold. By far the biggest game of the year. Bad JW shows up. He’ll have an even steeper learning curve if we actually made the playoffs.
Be honest, if we made it to a wildcard game, do you feel confident JW would deliver a smart, winning performance?
Not me. And this whole ‘He’s entertaining’ is only for casual observers, as a fan, it’s a gut punch.
In BA I Trust!
December 23rd, 2019 at 10:57 am
Of course Arians wouldn’t do this but he should tell Jameis that if he throws an interception, he’s taking him out of the game to prevent him from throwing the dreaded 30…..so….that would at least give Jameis a chance……I doubt the yardage title could be in play….but it could.
Jameis will do what Jameis does……surely they have decided yes or no by now…..and aren’t leaving it up to this game.
We need to beat the Falcons and send Dan Quinn & Koetter packing….
December 23rd, 2019 at 10:57 am
I would franchise Winston, and draft Jalen Hurts in the 2nd round.
December 23rd, 2019 at 11:05 am
28 picks and the season isn’t even over… LOL
just 4 more and he can average 2 per game.
giving your opponents two extra tries and field position (not to mention pick 6’s) every game is the type of QB we need to lock up long term.
sign this guy before he costs us 200 million!
December 23rd, 2019 at 11:07 am
so the #1 and #2 passing leaders will be watching the playoffs instead of playing in them….lol….
that aint a gift from santa…lol…thats a big ole lump of coal!!!!!!…lol….
GO BUCS!!!!!!!!
December 23rd, 2019 at 11:08 am
Go get Teddy please
December 23rd, 2019 at 11:11 am
from the other article………this is the reason we need to send him packing, my last post was sarcasm.
“Dejection.
Joe has never seen a defense as a whole have their hearts ripped out from them like Joe noticed the Bucs defense in the final minute.
Well, not since the 1999 NFC title game.
The Bucs were trying to mount a last-minute prayer of a game-tying or game-winning drive in the final minute. It ended with an interception. Naturally. That would be Jameis’ fourth of the day.”
dumping him will be like what the defense did when we dumped VH3 except times three. it’s a no brainer. jw is a moral killer….regularly!
December 23rd, 2019 at 11:15 am
tbbf
I agree with sending dan and dirk packing….lol…
but i think BA wants that, “i have the NFL passing leader”feather in his cap…..
GO BUCS!!!!!
December 23rd, 2019 at 11:18 am
Bucs will make playoffs next year. Licht is going all in. He will spend. Trade. What else you do if your licht. Bruce has 1-2 years.
December 23rd, 2019 at 11:34 am
You know the Bucs are not that far away. Take away a missed field goal, a couple of bad Jameis interceptions games and a young secondary at the first have of the year and the Bucs are easily 10 and 6 and more than likely in the playoffs. I think Arians will fill the holes and either make Jameis a bit better or move on from him and this team will be good for a while
December 23rd, 2019 at 11:39 am
Well not making excuses for Winston but you guys who always point to win loss record as the only stat that counts continue to be ridiculous. You do know there are other people on this team that contribute to that record too right? Winston doesn’t make dbs give up big plays once they have the lead or stupid penalties that kill our drives or sustains other teams. He doesn’t cover kicks giving up big returns or letting punts and field goals get blocked. You go back on the last 5 years and there are a lot of other players that cost us games other than Winston. He’s not the only one who gets paid to do his job, it’s so convenient you people only remember his name and all of a sudden it’s no longer a team sport with other players and a coaching staff contributing to the record. Before you say oh his interceptions and turnovers please shut it. You’re not the only ones with eyes.
December 23rd, 2019 at 11:52 am
Who didn’t think that regardless of how the game started that Winston would have the Bucs back in the game at the end? This time he didn’t get it done, but two weeks ago against the Colts, he did. Against the Cards, he did. Against the Giants, he did. Against the Seahawks, he did. Against the 49ers, he was INT after stupid Jensen blocked Dare from getting to the ball.
By my count he lead 4 drives late to win the game this season (unless you’re a tard you can’t blame Winston got the kicking game or defense), and failed on two. That’s a pretty good winning percentage.
December 23rd, 2019 at 11:53 am
He’s about 500 yards ahead of Rivers and Rivers has close to the same picks to int ratio and that’s so bad he will probably retire.
@sports… of course stats don’t tell the who story and can be useless sometimes, but how else do you defend 5 years of the same stuff?
December 23rd, 2019 at 11:56 am
David
Defense absolutely balled out Saturday, it was a joy to watch…they kept us in the game and shut down Houston repeatedly and often.
JW literally threw that game away…no two ways about it.
People say ” get an average D and we’ll win” BS….get us at least an average QB and we’ll win. Like you said it’s a team game, so why all the effusive praise when JW completes passes? That’s his job. The other part of his job is to protect the ball…everybody knows that.
December 23rd, 2019 at 12:07 pm
And if he throws two more picks, well, then he’ll be the first 30-30 man in NFL history (30 TD, 30 INTs).
DAMMIT MAN YOU CAN DO IT ….. Go Jaymiss Go !!! You deserve that record!!
December 23rd, 2019 at 12:25 pm
Ironically, it’s the winning that Jameis can’t handle. Drew Brees employs his own sports psychologist maybe Jameis should too. There’s no shame in trying to better your game.
December 23rd, 2019 at 12:25 pm
There’s not a single Bucs’ fan who wouldn’t rather see us make the playoffs than to see Jameis Winston win the passing yardage title. And if he threw just HALF as many INTs (say 14 instead of 28), there’s a decent chance that we would’ve had a winning season & POTENTIALLY have made the playoffs. Giveaways are deadly, especially his six Pick-6’s.
But the reality IMO is that Jameis will be here next year. Bucs have no choice but to franchise tag him, and pay him $27 mil for his ludicrous 1.09 TD-to-INT ratio. Jameis is PART of the problem, the just as big a PART is BA’s flying circus. It may be entertaining to some, but it’s the kiss of death in the hands of a QB like Jameis.
December 23rd, 2019 at 12:36 pm
Anybody see that graphic that was put up during the game that DBrooks was garnering interest from several teams about FO positions…
To bad we’ll miss that ship. I don’t know if he will be the best GM, but I know he is Mr. Buccaneer, he cares about Tampa, and his work ethic is impeccable.
December 23rd, 2019 at 12:48 pm
Prescott should not even be mentioned in the same sentence as jameis Winston lol the guy literally has a better team built structurally and still cant make it into the playoffs.. you got the line the wrs and the rb so I don’t wanna hear it.. I think next yr his interceptions will be split in half.. He did a decent job sunday of playing with wrs hes never played in a game with.. ppl think its peaches and cream but in all actuality you have to get used to how ppl break on their routes, its not easy peasy

—————————
I have to call you out again on your BS statements. You’re looking at it entirely wrong. 4 picks reduces your number of drives by four and increases your opponent’s by 4. So, if both teams had ten drives(for example), you now only have 6 and they have 14. It’s nearly impossible to win games like that. Sorry but you need to be educated on football. Your blind devotion to that loser is blocking you from seeing reality. You can’t win with a turnover machine. Wake up dude. Let me know if you need more education.
(incoming regurgitation of meaningless stats)
Stay down man…stay down…
December 23rd, 2019 at 1:07 pm
Does anybody seriously care about the yards?
The guy had two games this year where he didn’t turn the ball over, TWO!
Throwing INT’s against garbage teams and still squeaking out wins or having late game drives that put us in position to possibly win a game doesnt make him a good QB, it makes him a coach and team killer.
There’s 53 other guys on this roster working their a$$’s off to win games only to watch this clown show do the same garbage over and over again every week. Enough is enough.
This team can be pedestrian without coughing up $100 million to a simpleton.
December 23rd, 2019 at 1:13 pm
Defense rules. That’s all I am asking for is for Jameis just to throw half the interceptions he throws and I think we would win more games and also people would stop asking for his head but after 5 years I am not sure this will happen. I hope it will BUT hummm
December 23rd, 2019 at 1:26 pm
Look at the Top 5 passing leaders (yards). 0 are going to the playoffs.
December 23rd, 2019 at 2:00 pm
Is it so hard to realize he and the whole team is playing with a new coaching staff and a new more aggressive offense as well as defense.
to hard to realize played against an opponent who a recent line back for the Bucs who Knew the scheme…VH3…vs JW playing with even less than back up rcvrs …who he didn’t trust with good reasons…they didn’t fight for the ball…if he didn’t stare them down…he needed to
is it so hard to realize BA and statics show ALL of his QB’S the first year throw a lot of picks
is it so hard to realize secondary just started to click and offense is harder to learn than defense
is it so hard to reslize JW takes the blame regardless of the fault
is it so hard to realize the rcvrs like Perriman and Miller JW stays after practice to help them just like he has done with so many others including Godwin…all the while you no it all fans have suggested cutting them
is it so hard to realize we won 7 games playing against terrrible odds
1. the worst schedule ever from coast to coast including overseas
2. a limited running game
3. loosing first and back up receivers and unlike times pass we have been in almost all games even with bad referree calls
Go Bucs!
December 23rd, 2019 at 2:18 pm
@ Nole4Jaboo
What were the excuse before all of your “is it so hard to realize” nonsense?
This didn’t just start this year or this week. It’s been with him literally the whole time.
What will the excuses be next year, and the year after that, and the year after that? First it was the rookie excuse, then it was the offensive line excuse, then it was the bad running game excuse, then it was the bad defense excuse (which is insanely laughable), now it’s the new Arians offense excuse and how it takes a half a dozen years to learn how to run it properly, oh I forgot about the two All-Pro caliber receivers that dont run perfect routes, or it’s the wind in the freaking Tampa Bay, Florida elements that we’ve heard about so many times in the last I don’t know how many years(or never)……..and on and on and on.
When does it end? When does this guy get forced to accept some blame? Allegedly rapping a woman, stealing crab legs, grabbing Uber drivers crotch, and whatever other sh!t that was kept quiet for him at Florida St. that didn’t see the light of day.
He’s been surrounded by apologists and enablers his whole life. It needs to stop.
December 23rd, 2019 at 3:01 pm
Saw this meme posted somewhere yesterday:
“Just imagine Jameis Winston in any other job. Like you drop your kid off at school, and at the end of the day he’s either going to be dead, or will have learned 3 new languages. And there is a completely equal chance of either of those things happening without any way of knowing beforehand.”
Pretty much.
December 23rd, 2019 at 3:07 pm
If they gave him the return yards on his INTs he would damn near have 6k yards and imagine if he had credit for the pick 6’s too. I mean he would be nearing 40 TDs
December 23rd, 2019 at 3:09 pm
T REX Says:

I know it seems like that would be the case…I would certainly think so. However, I believe the Bucs had time of possession in the game.
December 23rd, 2019 at 3:13 pm
(6) INT for touchdowns. He has to be getting close to the record. Anyone know?
December 23rd, 2019 at 3:14 pm
I DO believe this team was better in the second half of the year, which means the coaching staff have succeeded so far.
Going into the off season, the issues are RT Defensive line and running back. I believe the secondary has been getting better and better.

Sucking and overcompensating with flair.
I can get behind that.
Go for the 30/30 club!
December 23rd, 2019 at 3:58 pm
@Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:
No problem with you having an opinion that you want Jameis back.
I do tend to disagree with some of your premises.
In BA’s 1st year of coaching Big Ben, Ben had 11 interceptions to 32 TD’s.
Yes those back up receivers were new last week and give Jameis some credit for working with them is fine. But those guys were open. There were a lot of bad throws this past week. Those bad throws had nothing to do with receivers that would not fight for the ball.
Most people tend to think that Jameis had the best receiver tandem in the league but he still threw a lot of interceptions before that. If last week was the only week with bad throws and decisions we would not have the wide debate on him.
Advanced stats show the Buc’s receivers prior to Saturday had the 3rd lowest percentage of drops in the league.
Advanced stats prior to Saturday showed the Jameis with top 2 in both well thrown balls and poorly thrown balls.
December 23rd, 2019 at 4:03 pm
top doesn’t necessarily mean controlling the game.
start a drive …. keep it 9 min. throw interception returned for td.
top for drive = 9 min score 0
top for other team = 0 score 6.
btw i don’t know but does the top actually change @ time of interception
or after the play is over (meaning offense gets top until it stops the play)
?
December 23rd, 2019 at 5:23 pm
You definitely can’t let a guy who throws for over 5k yards and 30 plus tds go, but again he has 28 pics and I’m sure he won’t be turnover free in his last game. So the potential for 30/30 is trending high. You tag him and bring him back. They real question long term is can you trust him to win you a championship? I believe he’s capable of getting us our long awaited playoff birth, but can he win us a Super Bowl? I think the answer is no unfortunately. I really want him to be our QB but we all know he is still capable of having these 4 int games and pick six games. No way he plays clean football on the national stage in the playoffs. Joe I would love to see what his stats are on national stage games. Night games or the 4pm prime time stat games. I can’t remember a prime time game where I walked away thinking he balled out and showed America he’s legit.
December 23rd, 2019 at 5:56 pm
Houston was the best we’ve played in months and he melted down while our defense played well.
No mas.
Get this loser outta here. DUMP WINSTON! Dude sucks.
December 23rd, 2019 at 6:21 pm
Stats. Losers.
December 23rd, 2019 at 6:50 pm
Oh yippee! We suck again but JW has lots of yards. Ridiculous how Joe keeps harping on that during yet another loss and turnover riddled season.
December 23rd, 2019 at 6:59 pm
AMI
AMEN
December 23rd, 2019 at 7:49 pm
I’m not overly impressed with Prescott, but I’d take him in a heartbeat over Jameis. Now if Prescott wanted 30+ million per year I’d laugh in his face and tell to not let the door hit him in the a$$. Russell Wilson and eventually Lamar, Patrick, and Deshaun are worth it though. I’m flabbergasted by the fact that these clearly lesser quarterbacks want to be paid like the stars. Gotta cut those dudes loose man.
December 23rd, 2019 at 8:15 pm
No one cares about the yards. Dirk racked up crazy yards between the 20’s irrelevant yards but now Winston is getting the touchdowns to match. Licht is stupid to care about that over wins
December 23rd, 2019 at 10:13 pm
arians will make a run at andrew luck behind the scenes…
jamies is his 2nd option
December 28th, 2019 at 9:52 pm
Dak also has Zeke to run the football. Helps in that 11 ints # IMO
