Is Jameis A Better QB Than He Was A Year Ago?

So how much cash did Jameis Winston lose today?
Anyone think Team Glazer is eager to sit down for a little post-Christmas cheer with the agents of America’s Quarterback to talk about a multi-year contract?
That ain’t happening.
And it sure might have if Jameis played like a guy making his 69th start instead of a guy making his 19th.
Joe believes Jameis lost millions with his performance today in a showcase game. Heck, his GM called it a playoff game. (See home page)
What puzzles Joe is Jameis’ decision-making seems significantly worse than last year. How could that be? And it’s too late in the year to tell Joe that Jameis is still learning the offense. His four picks today were complemented by a couple of dropped picks. Were any of those throws good decisions?
Bruce Arians was hired to fix/improve Jameis. The highs are higher and the lows are lower. But Joe can’t call that fixed.
Only delusional Bucs fans thought this would be a playoff season, but every Bucs fan knew this year was all about honing/improving Jameis and helping him develop consistency. He already had the talent and the enough stats to open eyes.
But is Jameis better? Joe can’t say Jameis is. But he’s definitely good enough for another try.

Joe I disagree about decision making. We are not seeing him force balls like before. Seems to me what is getting worse is his ability to read the defense. I guess you could call that decision making in a way.

Don’t forget at least 3 different times players were side open for TD and JW over threw all 3 of them… That adds with the ints that counted and those that were dropped and he still plays like a rookie after 69 starts… Jags made the wrong decision with Blake Bortles and the Bucs will likely regret it for years if they make the same risky decision because they will just be paying for more qb play like this… If this is how he plays for a contract, imagine how much his play will fall off with already getting paid..

We had a chance to beat a playoff team, go 8-7 and Jameis Claus gives the other team early Christmas presents and blew a chance to make some real jack. 2 games the Bucs had a national audience and he throws 9 pix. Even England knows he is a turnover machine.

Defense is legit. Lots of mistakes to point to but the one that you can’t overcome is awful QB play.

Blame the defense, the lack of run game, the offensive line, only not today. This was all Jameis. Here we are game 15, he throws a pick to start the game, he throws a pick to end the game, with two more sprinkled in. Isn’t that how he started the first game of the season against S.F.? A pick to start the game, a pick to end it. Hasn’t learned much since then. You all like the thirty TD passes? How about the 8 TD passes this year to other teams? This is what he is, what he does, it’s not going away. It can’t be coached out of him he’s incapable. Game 1, game 15, same old same old.

People gonna sit here and act like Favre didn’t throw 20 INTs six times in his career or 29 INTs in one season. Or have have seasons where he didn’t throw more TDs than INTs. Favre had one of his most dreadful seasons with the Jets one season before he had his best season ever with the Vikings.

He’s the most consistent QB in the NFL. He’s consistently learned nothing from any one pass he’s ever made in his career. Doesn’t matter what the defense is in or where the defender is, he will throw the same exact pass over and over again and to hell with the consequences.
Winston shoots a sawed of shotgun from the hip. Close is good enough as long as he keeps on firing.
It wont change. Good defenses will embarrass him. Bad defenses have a chance to be embarrassed by him. No matter what the game plan might be, when the shooting starts he’ll reach for the scatter gun and grab two boxes of shells.
…and this game had to be an absolute nightmare scenario for ownership and the front office. Winston couldn’t just come out and play smart football for the last two games of the year after his two 450 yard games vs. the garbage defenses of the league. Nope instead he comes out and did exactly what he always does and craps the bed early and often.

The biggest problem I got is some of(not all) the turnover I could live with if Winston we’re able to lead the team on game winning drives in clutch moments.
Winning QBs stick that ball in the Endzone. Winston right now is not good enough. Twice now he has choked in big game winning drives. Winston earned our losing record.

I am a Jameis fan but it’s just too many bone head throws. He’s looking more and more like B Bortles. I do have confidence that Arians is gonna draft and develop a QB or sign one this off season. I really don’t think Arians will put up with the inconsistent and bone head plays from Jameis. Over all this team is starting to look like a playoff team we just need consistent play from Jameis or replace him which I think Arians is gonna do one or the other in 2020

Considering that Jameis knew this while year was his audition, I think he has digressed. He was better in his first year. He can’t seem to hold anything in his little pea picking head. I have seen better work during sandlot games with people who have never had the benefit of a coach.
To coach someone you have to believe your pupil has some things going for him. Jameis doesn’t. It all goes away every week.
If he is resigned, beware the beginning of next season. It is going to be horrid.

The Bucs will never win with a gambler who makes amazing gains followed by spectacular losses. I know the report out today was bogus. I know this: the Glazers sit in their Owners Suite just like the few remaining fans in the stands do. They see the first pass is a pick six (again, and again), and they see Winston too often gamble away the last chance. They will never be better than 8-8, maybe 9-7 with Winston, and will never make a successful playoff run where a team…where the leader…has to play extremely well for four games to be champs.
Jameis is a bridge QB. He will make millions more, but he is no face of the franchise, and he is no star, and he is no top tier player. Bank it.

I’m not making excuses for him, but does anyone think we lose with Godwin and Evans? We had no receivers and Jameis was playing with a broken thumb. He also made a ton of plays with his feet and his arm. Plays not many QB’s can or would make, especially with scrap heap WR’s making their debuts. He will bounce back next week and the Bucs will win to finish 8-8, one missed field goal from 9-7.
We finally have a D, which should mean another 2-3 wins. Draft a game changing back with the first pick and we have an even better O. We are not going to draft or sign a FA QB who will give us a better chance of winning next year.

I know Jameis throw many many picks but one that really ticked me off was the last one. Everyone in bucs land knew they were trying to throw to the sidelines so the average QB would’ve been careful and looked off the defender but Jameis didn’t . He looked the running back down and threw it right to the defender. I predict Arians is gonna draft a QB in the second round and develop Jameis replacement

Jameis Winston has more INTs in his career than Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers has played in at least 100 more games.
That should give everyone some pause.
Bucs should franchise Jay-Miss and draft the QB of the future because it’s not WinsTOn.

Jameis is the same guy that he was as a rookie. One moment he’s making a play only a few in the games history could make and next 3 he’s making mistakes only 3rd string rookies would think we’re a good idea. We need a solid vet and a rookie to compete with him next year. If we lose JPP or Shaq to free agency because we gave this broken a$$ qb a big contract I’m gonna be pi$$ed. 😛 Hard work AND good play should be rewarded and those two easily deserve to be paid before Jameis. Gosh damn looney world is where I think I’m living.

Next week will be 70 career starts more than enough to judge him on. He’s just not great consistently enough to justify a big contract. If you think he deserves a large extension you just don’t know the game.

^ the problem is that Jameis DOES give us a chance to win every week but it’s usually are pass defense that lets us down. In this case our pass defense play great (extremely rare) and our TEs (and QB) let us down.
Obviously throwing less interceptions is better but my argument is about how interceptions isn’t the most important part of being a great QB.

I’m not disagreeing with the idea that interceptions is not the best way to evaluate a QB. Obviously, there’s multiple factors to consider and if it’s a situation where a QB has been prolific in his propensity to turn the ball over then the other factors have to be even more so.
The question is, is there a argument to make for winston and this team as it’s currently constructed?
