Pictures Spoke Volumes About Gaines Adams
January 17th, 2010Joe reached out today to Bucs defensive end Stylez G. White for his thoughts of his former teammate Gaines Adams, who died this morning of an enlarged heart.
White noted that Adams was somewhat of a quiet teammate, but what he didn’t say spoke volumes about Adams, the family man.
“Even though Gaines was younger than I am, I looked up at him and admired his work ethic. I saw how hard he worked, the talent he had and how he demanded so much from his body.
“I didn’t know much about his personal life, although he didn’t have to say much because the pictures of his kids were all over his locker.”
Joe believes the cliche “A picture speaks a thousand words” is appropriate here.

This is a shock. A strong man in peak physicial condition who so young. One would think that with the medical attention that pro athletes receive, something like an enlarged heart could be detected and appropriate measures taken.

All athletes have enlarged hearts due to the heavy, daily workout. It isn’t a problem in and of itself, usually.

Explains alot of things. He had runs of being the best but could not put it together. I guess we know why now. Sorry it ended like this for Adams. Gifted young man.

Ashame. He appeared unusually winded at times, I’m sure a contributing factor.
