Bruce Arians Updates Jameis’ Injury

Bucco Bruce Arians let loose a little more info on the cracked thumb of Jameis Winston last night.
Asked about the status of America’s Quarterback’s injured digit on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Arians said, “I’m hoping that most of the swelling’s gone and it looks like he has some strength, and we’ll see how the week goes. But I’m hoping he can play.”
The thumb is on Jameis’ throwing hand and the injury, per Jameis, came in the second quarter against the Colts on Sunday.
Joe has heard from a reliable source with ties to Jameis that Jameis is lobbying the Bucs hard to play through the injury, but for now the team is holding him back.
Dr. David Chao, the former Chargers team doctor who is a regular guest on SiriusXM NFL Radio, didn’t offer much speculation on the Jameis injury earlier this week. He did, though, note that the thumb “crack” can be tricky and potentially can become a greater problem. depending on where it is on the finger.

I’m pretty sure Jameis wants to play. He doesn’t want his next contract to hang on 18 INTs in his last 8 games.

no doubt he wants to play….
but is it in the teams best long term interest….
sit him….ME13 is out of the season, d.smith banged up….
develop the young talent on the team now…
dont wait until PS because that tells us close to nothing….lol…
i say sign him to a 2year deal with a 3rd year option….re-sign the pending FAs like shaq, jpp and suh….
consistency and health is key…..

bucs should already know what they’re going to do with JW by now…..
we’re out of the playoff race and we face 1 remaining team with a winning record….
the last thing i want to see is d.smith or JW go down with a serious injury caused by some 3rd string player trying to make the team next year…..
we see this every year….a starter goes down and misses TC, PS and the first 4-6 games because he was in a meaningless game and got tackled by someone who want be in the NFL the following year…..

RG may not be the answer but it cant hurt to see how he plays. The turnover machine starts every game with an early turnover and then gets praised for his “comeback”. Bucs need to address the lines and RB in the draft and FA which will be depleted if they sign or franchise JW. Id rather see Bucs get a Case Keenam type QB and invest in draft picks on Dline and Oline.

Bucs have until day of the game to activate a practice squad quarterback if need be.
Jameis could actually serve as the backup. Not like he cannot throw. Team is just being cautious.

Don’t play him if there is any chance of a more serious injury IMO. If he can play without the risk of further aggravation then sure

Ya bucboi, I believe in developing young talent too, but what young talent are you talking about? Josh Wells substituting in for Donovan? Aaron Stinnie substituting in for Watford? How about Jerald Hawkins replacing Dotson? Jordan Legget & Tanner Hudson for OJ & Brate?
Fact is the Bucs ARE developing our young TALENT right now … White, SMB, Dean, Edwards, Watson, Gay. And yes, Davis, Vea, Whitehead, RoJo are only 2nd year players themselves, and playing in a new defense & offense. You hamper THEIR opportunities to develop IMO when you play 2nd team players. Sorry, but this team NEEDS to finish on a high note … a winning note … to develop that confidence in each other that every great TEAM has. It’s simple: If you can’t run with the big dogs, get back on the porch.

That MIGHT be a consideration in preseason, but not during the season bucboi. These guys get paid big bucks to play 16 games each year, not 13, not 10. Different story if they can’t go, but right now at least that’s NOT what we’re hearing. EVERY GAME COUNTS and you have your best chance of winning with your best players on the field.

Bottom line is , there’s nothing to play for … only pride and end on a good note.

This isn’t high school or college football. Kids play for pride.
Professionals get paid to play. Careers can end or continue if we’re talking older players.
Young players are working towards that next contract, the big one.
The final meaningless games can mean the difference between a serious bonus or not. Stats start counting a whole bunch more than the first part of the season. We’re talking possibly millions to tens of millions of dollars to a player who reaches his stats and sometimes that’s the last game.
Mike Evans had a 1000yd season getting his streak alive on the last game of the year in 17. I can guarantee you that wasn’t a meaningless game. Team wise, yes ….meaningless. But it’s paid for play in the NFL and if money isn’t enough, then it’s highly unlikely pride does the trick.
Nothing wrong with what you think . But it’s not the same mindset of today’s players. You’re a fan. Players are businessmen. That’s how most think.

How much more serious can a hairline fracture get? Of course he’s playing and he will be back next year because if he wasn’t coming back they would just put him on IR. Perfect excuse. Only way he doesn’t play is if Sunday morning his thumb swells to where he can’t hold the ball. That’s it.
