2 or three year deal now at a discount, fontload the cap money to this year, or next year.

  2. CharlieB Says:

I’d sign him to a 4yr/80m contract with the first two years guaranteed. I would not sign him much above that. I’d be down for the franchise tag given that we have no guarantees a first round QB will fall to us and there’s no way in hell we should give up multiple draft picks to move up.

  3. Anonymous Says:

Sadly, he’s due to to throw a stinker. Hopefully it’s next week in DET and not in front of the few ticket buying fans left at home. No JimmyJack; that’s not you.You actually steal seats from the team WHEN you go to games. Four games left. One terrible game, two medicre, and one good one. Bank it.

Also: Not franchise QB worthy. Bank that too.

  4. Anonymous Says:

“Pretend The Season Ended Yesterday. What Would You Do Next With Jameis Winston?”

LOL! The season over a month ago largely thanks to Winston. Decision made!

  5. Grt1 Says:

34% of Buc fans are idiots. Sign him to a multi year deal.

  6. July Joe Says:

    JAMEIS WILL GET PAID $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

  7. lowercaseg Says:

    Sign Tom Brady

  8. DooshLaRue Says:

    Grt1

It’s up to 40% now genius!

  9. Bucsfan77 Says:

I would sign him to a 2-3 year deal 20-23m a year, loaded with incentives for completion, and Ball security.

  10. MadMax Says:

2 years, 18 mill each to prove he can mature and make smarter decisions…if he does and we’re winning, the big contract is around the corner….if not, cut and find another.

  11. bojim Says:

Unless he really screws the last four games he remains a Buc. I’m fine with that. He sure can be exciting.

  12. Pa bucs fan Says:

Pay the man. Keep our future alive.

  13. Dewey Selmon Says:

Franchise him and give BA 32 games to make up his mind. I think there is still alot of bad Jameis left to be seen. I know football is a year to year sport but has anyone looked at our schedule next year? The home games are brutal enough.

  14. Wesley Says:

He has to finish the season really strong and suddenly be able to throw the deep ball, otherwise bye bye Jameis.

  15. Bucs4Life Says:

Best qb in Bucs’ history…sign him now, he’ll get better each year with experience

  16. Jean Lafitte Says:

^^^^so says the snake oil salesman

  17. Chris Cotten Says:

4 years 80 Million, with incentives…I only think he gets better with age

  18. Defense Rules Says:

Another limited survey Joe. First, every survey is “limited.” Second, for the purpose of this survey, multiyear commitment is “multiyear.” You’re assuming that fans care about the money in similar ways. Adding a cash component to this, other than the implied $27 million or so for the tag, clouds the survey because of people’s feelings about cash. This survey is about football.–Joe Some favor paying him whatever it takes in a multi-year contract to keep him here. Others (like myself) favor a multi-year, team-friendly contract with definite ‘boundaries’ (say 3-4 years at $21, $22, $23, $24 mil … $90 mil total … with only the first year guaranteed). Go higher than that and something else gets short-changed (offense or defense) and we can kiss any playoffs goodbye IMO (repeat of this year … and years past).

Brees ($22.7 mil in 2019) & Brady ($21.5 mil in 2019) understand that & their TEAMs are excelling. Stafford ($29.5 mil) didn’t and the Lions are struggling. Some QBs (Wilson, Rodgers) are truly game-changers & worth more money because they lift everyone on the team to play better than their level of talent might otherwise indicate.

Sorry, but that’s not Jameis. He NEEDS to be surrounded by quality talent (to include a strong defense, top WRs & TEs, competent OLine & strong running game) to excel.

  19. Jean Lafitte Says:

I say let him test the market and see what his actual value is. If he is offered more than what we feel he’s worth then let him go. If not then make a counter offer. Everyone seems to think he will be a huge commodity but who would drop 30 mil on a QB that really hasn’t done much in five seasons besides a few highlight plays and leads the league every season in turnovers.. I’m not buying it. There’s too many players available that can produce his numbers behind this offense. This WR tandem is special and they make Jameis look great at times. He’s got two above average TE’s regardless of how much they are targeted. If someone came in here and produced around 70% completion rate I believe they would smash everything Jameis has done to this point.

  20. NPRSageBoy Says:

100 Turnovers in less than 5 full seasons says all anyone needs to know.

Well past time to move on.

    Enough said.

    Peace, out

  21. BucsBandit Says:

    Defense Rules,

I asked Joe to put the estimated annual salaries next to the options. Similar to what you’re saying.

I guarantee if you put “$30M/year” next to the Franchise Tag option the results would PLUMMET and the let him walk would skyrocket. I think many fans don’t realize how much the tag will cost the team. I think they think they can just give him like $12M to test him for another year.

  22. BucsBandit Says:

Even without many fans realizing how expensive it will be to keep Winston (tag or extension) it’s telling that 75 PERCENT of fans taking the poll don’t want to commit to Winston for more than 1-year right now.

    #lethimwalk

  23. tnew Says:

Winston won’t be franchised. Makes little sense. QB position is the very least likely to do this with.. This is not a black and white issue for sure, but the answer is multi year with the proper contract. I’m not talking about a $12M a season year either, thats as realistic as $30M. If he wants to “test the market”, my vote is let him walk. If he is willing to sign a fair to team friendly deal, thats It makes little sense to do anything but.

What is “fair” can be debated. What should work for both sides is a contract averaging in twenties for three seasons ($18M, $21M and $23M) with a $25M signing bonus, then team options in year 4 and 5 at $30M and $35M… This would be $77M guaranteed and only $10M of dead cap if released in year 4. This won’t kill the team’s cap. Teams win with more dead cap than that.

This is a realistic scenario. Winston won’t command $30M a season and his agent will know that. You guys that think Winston is just awful are just jaded, just as the guys that believe Winston is Elite. The money that I’m proposing is mid tier money.

It is hard to evaluate because he makes so many positive plays, ranks 3rd in the league according to PFF in that category, but is offset by ranking 7th worst in negative plays. Throwing away the turnovers will also throw away a bunch of big plays.

  24. T REX Says:

This loser franchise deserves a loser QB. We have the dumbest fans on earth. Buy those tickets lol. Wow. Pathetic.

  25. snookman Says:

Doesn’t matter who plays QB. If the team around the QB sucks……….same results………….look at Pittsburg, Look at Tennesee, Look at New Orleans………….All three teams had to use back up QBs and they are playoff teams as of now.

Qbs are only as good as the team around them…….with the exception of Pat Mahomes, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, AAron Rogers, Russel Wilson.
Those Qbs can be successful with a garbage team

  26. Dave5928 Says:

I’d like to see them agree to a 1-year ‘prove it’ contract before making a commitment to paying a guy who can be scary good as well as scary bad. You never know which Jameis you’ll experience from one game to the next so why would you absolutely commit to a multi-year deal?

  27. pryda...sec 147 Says:

I’d try to sign him to multi year deal but honestly he will likely take franchise tag to get super deal after the new CBA that comes out after 2020 season

  28. Defense Rules Says:

tnew … Excellent points. Agree that Jameis won’t be franchised (too much money & we don’t need any more ‘testing; ‘management’ knows who Jameis is). Assuming that Jameis doesn’t poop the bed in these last 4 games, the only REAL remaining issues IMO are (1) what does a ‘fair’ team-friendly offer look like?; and (2) what does Jameis want?

Jameis is currently making $20.9 mil. As I look at it now, THAT’s the starting point. Anything less could essentially be viewed as being ‘disrespectful’ by Jameis & others. Players are sometimes asked to ‘go backwards’ in terms of salary later in their careers (GMC, etc?) but not early in their careers. So an offer of say $21 first year, with a ‘standard’ salary Cap escalator in it for 2-3 years after that makes reasonable sense. And I think it’s something the Bucs can live with (team friendly) and leaves sufficient salary Cap the build a stronger TEAM with (which also benefits Jameis BTW).

Have had the opportunities in my past 2 careers to do quite a bit of ‘negotiating’ and have always believed that it’s essential to strive for a win-win outcome. But to do that requires 2 things: (1) to know what a ‘win’ outcome looks like for YOU; and (2) to know what a ‘win’ outcome looks like for the party you’re negotiating with.

Thus the ‘what does Jameis want’ question is not only pertinent but it’s MUCH more difficult to answer in my eyes (only Jameis REALLY knows). Jameis is in the ‘early prime’ of his career. He’s got 5 years of hard work under his belt, and could easily have 15 years ahead. I personally don’t think that money ‘drives him’ like it does some others … Jameis wants a championship badly AND he wants it HERE. This is HIS TEAM in his eyes, and he’s still got more to ‘prove’ to get that championship. I’m convinced that he KNOWS that won’t happen unless he has a strong TEAM around him.

Coming up with that ‘win-win outcome’ is never easy in my experience, and sometimes it doesn’t work out (one party ‘walks’). Such is life.

  29. SteveK Says:

The production at the QB position does it warrant big time money. No playoffs with all those turnovers. Let him walk.

  30. JP_09 Says:

@Joe, you still haven’t provided a short term team friendly deal. That’s the option most on here would pick therefore no vote
Multiyear contract covers that option. Why? Because Jameis isn’t going to sign a one-year deal that’s not the franchise tag. He’s not stupid. So therefore, there’s no fourth voting option. Joe wanted fans to make a decision between the only reasonable options, not vote “other.” –Joe

  31. orlbucfan Says:

Agree with your comments, DR. I feel Fameis will go for it. He knows his strengths and weaknesses better than anyone else. I I will add that he needs BA/BL to design some QB running plays for him. He’s also great in the no-huddle.

  32. RustyRhinos Says:

Wow do all of us JBF posters really think that another QB can not come in and produce in this offense? With the bar set a 20TD’s and 20INT’s only Jameis Winston can do this? What happens when Winston gets bit by the injury bug? What will Coach Arians do? Fold up camp and forfeit the remaining games? Hell NO! I just do not get the mentally of thinking that Winston can be the only QB who can produce these results. We a,ll know his Deep passing game is about 50/50 with a few WTF throws every game. Do we not think at season Five and going forward that he will change that? If we sign him to a multiyear deal what happens if he is the same as he ever was? SSDD?

  33. Ndog Says:

Please ignore the CLUELESS on this site that have no idea what they are talking about. What they just can’t get their head around is that IF Jameis gets to free agency he WILL GET PAID so we cannot offer him a ridiculously small market deal. Yes he has a bad imagine with TOs, mostly underserved due to the crap situations this team has put him down in, but regardless he has simply put up to good of numbers to not get paid by at least one team probably more.

  34. SteveK Says:

    Ndog,

Jameis will get paid by whom? And will he ever overcome the turnover bug?

  35. Hank Rearden Says:

can’t get too worked up over something I have zero control over. like to see him stay but if he goes I’ll still be a Buc fan the day after.

    and as always…GO BUCS!

  36. Ndog Says:

Well SteveK it could be the Chargers, the Dolphins, the Bears, the Colts, the Panthers or the one I fully expect, if Brady leaves, the Patriots.

  37. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Sure Rusty any old QB will do. Any rookie or journeyman QB will come in and lead the team to the top 5 in yards and scoring with no run game and a bad o-line. Really really dumb fan base. We have decades of bad QB play in this town and they act like QBs are a dime a dozen and all can take you to the promised land as like as they don’t throw a pick.

  38. Ndog Says:

RustyRhinos it’s simple, when this year is done there is a very good chance that only one player in the history of the game will have thrown for more yards than Jameis in his first 5 years in the league. I am not sure how, with a straight face, state anyone could do that SINCE IT HAS BEEN DONE ONE TIME EVER!!!!!!!!

    ——————————————————————-
Yeah doesn’t matter who plays QB, that is why QB’s get paid so low and front offices don’t put a lot of resources into scouting them cause their position can be played by anyone. Teams can just plug and play at will if the team around them is good.

    Very intelligent take.

  40. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Ndog

The Patriots and Belichick exemplify consistency. You think Bill is gonna sign Mr. Inconsistent?

    You’re out of your mind.

  41. Ndog Says:

Jmarkbuc you mean like Randy Moss who basically quit in Oakland and Corey Dillion who was a malcontent in Cincy or A. Brown who talked himself out of Pittsburgh and acted his way out of Oakland?

Shall I go on or have I put your inaccurate argument to bed enough for you?

  42. Jmarkbuc Says:

How long was AB with the team?

You’re comparing A generational WR (Moss) to a future backup QB? And Dillon a malcontent? Who wouldn’t be in Cincinnati? If he hadn’t produced in NE, he would have been let go too….

Jameis is the EXACT opposite of the kind of QB Belichick would sign.

  43. Tye Says:

The priority of the management will make the final decision!

Do they want to rack up wins, chance at multi year playoffs, hope for a Super Bowl or a few in the next 10 years – Move on to give yourself the opportunity to find that QB.

Do they just want to keep media attention (mostly negative) and keep ‘entertaining’ people playing at the QB position like a buffoon – sign him to multi year deal..
    compromise success for exposure..

If I were in the decision making, I would have no doubt, question or regret it cutting him.. 66 games of his bumblings, turnovers and the loses he has racked up… I’d be confident we can surely do much better than him!

  44. Ndog Says:

The I love your vivid garbage descriptions. You just love trying to paint the picture of someone who just isn’t capable but the truth speaks different than the crap you spew. But you know what that’s ok cause the proof is in the pudding and we all shall see soon enough.

  45. Alanbucsfan Says:

Neither Jameis or his agent are going to accept a multi year deal for less than $150 million. Those cheap 2-3 year options are dreaming…

  46. Slugglife Says:

Somebody’s got an awful lot of time invested in making the case for Jameis Winston. Meanwhile, this team doesn’t know if it has a competent backup should he be injured or possibly have another off field issue.

NDog- take a break man. Nothing you do or say is gonna influence the front office. It’s like you just post to argue with people and proclaim some kind of superiority of knowledge with your pathetic insults.

    Remind me of NOSBOS.

  47. wantstastayabuc Says:

Fitzmagic was every bit as good with these receivers/line as winston. Fact.

    So there is your comparison.

Difference is people wanted to root for the bearded family guy; the uber guy, etc.? Not so much.

  48. Ndog Says:

wantstastayabuc what I think is funny is how people are so influenced by what they are told to like and not like. Don’t you think the media covered Fitz just a little differently than they do Jameis? Look at all the positive things i find about Jameis but the media conveniently never mentions them. Ever wonder why?

  49. wantstastayabuc Says:

Because his negatives are deplorable and then influence further coverage. How is that a mystery?

  50. Dapostman Says:

    @wantstastayabuc,

Fitz played well the first 2 games+ when Monken was calling plays and no one had a book on him. After the book was out Fitz really didn’t do to much unless you want to count his garbage time stats vs Cin and Car. No mystery there.

  51. Slugglife Says:

Yes NDog, you’ve finally made a fantastic point- the media covers people differently.

Do you notice anything different about the media from 2008-20016 versus 2016- present? Notice how they tend to underreport the positive things in the past 3 years and stay laser focused on the negatives?

Thanks for shining the light on the corrupt media. We can guess what the differences are between the two time frames I mentioned if you like.

  52. Slugglife Says:

“People are so influenced by what they are told to like and dislike”.-NDOG 2019 shining the light on the corrupt media influencing people’s opinion and people blindly following said media like F’n sheep.

    Well done.

  53. Slugglife Says:

It would be a cool experiment to substitute Obama for Fitz and Trump for Jameis in your statement.

I mean since we seem to be discussing biased media coverage based on your usual implied criteria.

  54. Dapostman Says:

    Malcolm X once said:

“The media’s the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that’s power. Because they control the minds of the masses.”

I’d like to add while watching the Vikings/Seahawks game that R Wilson batted the ball forward and it was recovered by the Vikings. This was a bad play by Wilson but ol Booger says it was a bad break on Wilson’s part. If that was Winston ol Booger would have roasted him and the lemmings would have joined in. A bad play is a bad play unless the media wants to keep you up on a pedestal or keep you down beneath the toilet. Some folks just don’t have a logical brain to figure it out.

  55. wantstastayabuc Says:

    Dapostman,
Fitz was a veteran with plenty of film already. He was yanked because of performances that are typical Jameis at this point (i.e. multiple interceptions). Don’t fool yourself, winston was given much more rope than Fitz and has produced nothing better in the same offense. Again, this is fact.

  56. Dapostman Says:

    @wantstastayabuc,

The book was out on the play caller Monken. Fitz did well the first 2+ games because the other teams had no book on Monken. They had no idea how he would call a game. As for Fitz he has no upside and Winston does. That’s why Winston will always be given more rope than journeyman Fitz. It ain’t rocket science.

  57. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

I still don’t see paying Jay Miss big money. He’s far too inconsistent and inaccurate. He still makes stupid decisions after 5 years. He still has no pocket presence or awareness and fumbles too much. I just don’t think there’s gonna be a great market for him out there. Additionally, he has the best starting receiving crew in the league, which makes him look better than he is.

  58. wantstastayabuc Says:

    DaPost,
“Upside”? “Potential”? I guess “a good personality”?
The optimism behind this kind of wishful thinking has run out for most fans. At some point, you have to accept that he just doesn’t have it. I guess you haven’t hit that point yet, but those who are tired of this crap have.

No more good money after bad. Move on. At least get another mediocre QB who doesn’t have the moral defects of the present mediocre QB.

  59. Dapostman Says:

    @wantstastayabuc,

    QB’s drafted top 3 rounds since 2015.

    2015: Winston, Mariotta, Grayson, Mannion
2016: Goff, Wentz, Lynch, Hackenberg, Brissett, Kessler
2017: Trubisky, Mahomes, Watson, Kizer, Webb, Beatherd
2018: Mayfield, Darnold, Allen, Rosen, Jackson, Rudolph
2019: Murray, Jones, Haskins, Lock, Grier

There are 3 players that would be considered an upgrade over Winston. Mahomes, Watson and Jackson. That’s it. These 3 were all drafted to better teams and situations than Winston also.

2016 Texans 9-7 playoffs year before Watson
2016 Chiefs 12-4 playoffs year before Mahomes
2017 Ravens 9-7 year before Jackson

2014 Bucs 2-14 year before Winston

So good luck finding your QB. My gut says Winston will be here in 2020 and beyond.

  60. Ndog Says:

Dapostman bringing the heat today. Well done sir, spewing some knowledge at the CLUELESS.

  61. BucsBandit Says:

Jameis Winston was BENCHED last year for crappy play. This is after he came back. How many elite QBs were ever benched for so much poor play?

Dapostman – there are far more than 3 QBs on your list that would probably be an upgrade to Winston and lead to more wins. Turnovers are a major liability that you Jameis fans love to downplay.

  62. SteveK Says:

I hope tickrdr comes on here to share his facts on turnovers and the QBs position.

Nobody has more turnovers in the last five years. Nobody.

  63. SteveK Says:

If Jameis wore a “Fitzpatrick” Jersey, then he’d of been benched by now. Why do we forgive inconsistent play and no playoffs for five years? It’s a laughingstock.

  64. wantstastayabuc Says:

DaPost and Ndog (or now LapDog?),

Never mentioned draft, let alone since 2015. Mentioned getting another mediocre QB. What round was Fitz drafted in? 7th. Are you going to tell me “good luck finding a mediocre QB drafted in the first 7 rounds since 2015”? OK. I think it’s probable. We found one in the first round as other teams have too. He is definitely replaceable with a lower price QB that will allow strengthening at other positions. Maybe replacement comes from the draft, FA, or trade.

Maybe he can use his leadership and pro-readiness to coach FSU instead of leading us to another year of TO-driven blah.

  65. Buczilla Says:

Barring a miracle, Jameis will never be worth young franchise qb money. Do not make the Jared Goff mistake Licht. If Jameis wants to hold a clipboard and be a cheerleader for 3-4 million a year, then I am fine with keeping him. I think we will franchise him though and let some other foolish jacka$$ gm sign him to a relatively large contract in 2021 after he plays erratically like always in 2020. I hope he turns it around, but I think Joe has a better chance of getting a date with Kate Upton. 😯
