JPP: “I’m Old School”

Does not enjoy losing.
Nothing drives Bucs fans wild like a player or coach who seems to not be bothered by losing or actually is enjoying themselves in a loss.
To this day, Bucs fans rifle a beer bottle at their garage TV remembering how former Bucs coach Raheem Morris chest-bumped players down two touchdowns in a season-opening @ss-whipping by the Tony Romo-led Cowboys.
And Bucs fans light up Twitter after being reminded that Gerald McCoy was dancing on the sidelines while the Bucs were getting curb-stomped at home (allegedly — Joe has never seen video evidence of this, but folks sure do talk about it a lot).
Enter Bucs outside linebacker Jason Pierre-Paul.
Earlier this season, in a postgame interview Joe had with Lavonte David, audio of the recording picked up JPP in the background outraged over some (unknown) Bucs player or players talking and joking about lustful conquests with a certain flavor of women minutes after a crushing loss to the Titans.
So today before practice at One Buc Palace, JPP was asked about his fire and what stokes that passion and his abhorrence to losing.
“Anytime you lose, I am always upset in my heart,” JPP said. “I’m a winner, man. Anything in life, I like to win. At the end of the day, losing ain’t fun. Nobody likes to lose. Who likes to lose? Nobody. I like to win.
“Anytime we ain’t winning, I’m p!ssed, [especially] if I see guys laughing. I’m an old school guy. I came up with the old game. When you lose, you take that to heart. You would see guys punching lockers and getting into it with other players. That’s the era I came in. It’s a little bit different now in the league.”
Now Joe spoke with Sean Murphy-Bunting in the locker room after the win at Jacksonville and SMB told Joe there were defenders who, at halftime, were quite vocal in demanding their teammates not sleep on the Jags in the second half and to put their feet on the throats of the Jags.
Joe wonders if JPP was one of those players demanding success and results from his younger teammates?

#1 Defensive priority, resign JPP. Keep him a Buc until he retires. His “old school” mindset, is the “culture change” this team needs and just might leave the building with him if he’s allowed to walk. Dude plays with a hand and a half and came back to play football from a broken neck. That’s Ronnie Lott “old school,” that’s the memtality this team NEEDS.

Yet another reason to bring JPP back next season. To many players here happy to be in the NFL, and not working their arses off to DOMINATE in the NFL! There is a big difference. Our young team needs this “vet’s” attitude of success comes from hard work and not settling for we were close.

Resign him and Barrett, and draft D. Brown to replace Suh (if we cant afford to resign him, probably not). Even if we have to trade up a few spots for Brown, if he’s still there at 10, he’ll be worth it.

Now on to something else said in this article. Joe did you really say that you haven’t seen video of McCoy dancing while we were losing? If in fact you haven’t first that’s hard to believe. First off, Joe saw what fans claimed was dancing, but was it really dancing? Players celebrate all the time and based on what Joe saw, it certainly wasn’t outrageous. Keep in mind McCoy was not alone and included was Kwon Alexander, and the now mighty 49ers think he’s a heck of a leader. Also, the Bucs won the game. Maybe it helped? Regardless, JPP thinks it’s a big deal, which is nothing new, that doesn’t mean Joe does. Offensive players celebrate scores all the time — winning or losing. –Joe And second if you honestly haven’t and you’re supposed to be a source for us fans of the Bucs then why didn’t you look for it when it was such a hot topic? People on here have called you out for not being hard on McCoy and this backs up that claim if true.

JPP and Barrett are much more important to keep around then America’s turnover machine. 27.5 million dollars would cover most of Shaq and JPP’s cap hit.

Agree, resign JPP and ‘Shaq A Back’ B. Those two are so disruptive. If we can fit Suh in and he has want to, I’d bring the whole gang back.
Who would’ve thunk it Joe? We have an above average Pass D line and to 5 rush defense.

Really hoping we can get JPP to agree to a more team-friendly deal since his age is becoming more risky (tho still shows plenty of talent) and he is a guy from the sunshine state. I am not sure we have the budget to lock up Barrett and JPP but that’s what I’d go all-in on. Love Nassib and Suh has been solid, but I think their overall impact isn’t as valuable. Nassib wouldn’t be the worst consolation if we can’t afford JPP.

I believe the sideline dancing people refer to was done last year in Atlanta. If I remember correctly it was after the defense made its 1st stop somewhere in the 3rd quarter. And the Bucs were trailing by 8? at time. And we did lose that one.

JPP is a beast. If Bucs don’t re-sign him that’d be worse than letting Michael Bennett walk years ago. Feel the same way though about re-signing Barrett, Suh & Nassib. They’re all iron-men, and replacing guys like that becomes a very iffy proposition. Just look at the defensive snaps those guys contributed in the Jaguars game (Bucs had 73 defensive snaps total in the game) …
o JPP: 63 snaps (86%)
o Suh: 54 snaps (74%)
o Barrett: 47 snaps (64%)
o Nassib: 40 snaps (55%)
Contrast that with our other horses up-front …
o Nunez-Roches: 20 snaps (27%)
o Gholston: 18 snaps (25%)
o Allen: 15 snaps (21%)
o O’Connor: 3 snaps (4%)
And therein lies a major problem. Finding FAs or drafting rookies who can give us the number of QUALITY defensive snaps that JPP, Barrett, Suh & Nassib have given us is easier said than done. The four of them TOGETHER are a force to be reckoned with. Take out any one without signing a comparable replacement (that would also cost either $$$ or high draft picks) and the unit’s PRODUCTION will most likely diminish considerably.
IF we allocate $80-$85 mil or thereabouts to our defense, I think we can have all 4 back, and HOPEFULLY even have enough to sign a veteran FA or two for our Secondary. LOTS of tough CHOICES ahead.

Some Buc fans change their tune faster than an old am radio.. When it was found out that JPP would be gone for 6 weeks or whatever SOME people were clamoring for his release… C’mon man! Make up your mind!

That’s it. This article/quote changes my mind. Barrett is not our top priority free agent. It’s JPP.
Luckily the Bucs have enough money to sign both and give Winston a long-term deal.
And we still gotta bring back Suh too. He’s a large piece of the puzzle.
Replace Nassib in the draft.
Licht gotta earn his keep this year and figure it all.out.

JPP could be the next Hardy Nickerson of this defense if he stays healthy. This team needs him around for at least another year. Bucs could sign lots of FAs if they let the turnover machine walk.

I don’t see Licht not trying to bring JPP back, after all he did trade a 3rd round pick for him.
I expect JPP to be on the roster opening day next season.

I wasnt a suh fan ever just think the guy is cheap an dirty for some of the things he’s done like stepping on players on purpose BUT we gotta keep him. He might not show up on the stat sheet but he clogs that middle an let’s guys like jpp an Barrett eat. Plus vea can’t be out there every snap he’s needs help an suh also brings a mentality that this organization needs just like JPP. LET THESE DBs get better an we have a legit defense. Secondary needs to keep getting better. IM EXCITED ABOUT BUC BALL #endthedrought

Yup, I said this after his first game back.
JPP is a leader of men and gives our defense and instant infusion. Find a way to bring him and Barrett back!

I fully expect JPP to come back because I believe he likes it here and he likes playing for BA.
I also think he reciprocated the professional courtesy and faith the franchise showed in him after his off season non football injury. Many teams would have just cut him, cut their losses and then moved on.
I also believe he “re-structured” his contract to help the Buccaneers with this season’s cap situation. This was to help out with possible short terms needs if some one important got injured. It also helped BA to “churn” his overall roster continuously according to his stated philosophy throughout this year. (This situation also implies to me that there was some kind of gentlemen’s agreement behind the scenes also.)
This showed some of JPP’s “old school” class similar to what Mike Evans has done a couple of times previously with his restructures.
Neither guy has hurt himself financially by helping their team out either.

Joe I thought you knew the players in question, joking in the shower, because you were in the locker room. Not accusing, just hope it’s something you can reveal to us some time in the future.
