Bucs impact
If Gerald McCoy plays next season, it will be for his sixth head coach in 11 years.
That’s because McCoy’s latest head coach, Ron Rivera, got canned today.
On Sunday, Joe wrote all about the looming firings in Carolina and Atlanta. Joe didn’t think Rivera would be axed so quickly, but Panthers ownership wants to get a jump on hiring its next head coach, and hey, no need to mess around when you know a guy is toast.
Joe suspects Rivera’s firing might spark Falcons head man Arthur Blank to consider lopping off head coach Dan Quinn before the end of the season.
Man, it’s been five seasons since a team other than the Bucs fired a head coach — and the Bucs proceeded to hire the guy, Mike Smith, to fix their defense.
This division shakeup presents such an opportunity for the Bucs in a league where a little edge can go a long way.
Will the Panthers come calling to interview Bucs coordinators Byron Leftwich or Todd Bowles? If they were smart, they would in order to soak as much knowledge out of those guys as possible.
And yes, per league rules, the Bucs have to let them interview. And per Joe’s opinion, Arians certainly would encourage both to do it.

Interesting to say the least. The Panthers have a lot of issues with that team but Riverboat Ron was low on the list. How far did ownership expect to go with a backup QB?

Losing Todd Bowles would be disastrous for the Bucs. I still think he’s the next Bucs’ head coach.
Losing Byron Leftwich? OK, now I’m rooting for the Panthers to step up.

Wow what a freaking mistake. Rivera is a good coach dude. Stupid awful move. That team don’t realize how lucky they were to have quality coaching with Ron and Fox before him.
This is nothing but good news for Buc fans. Maybe they now go through the same turmoil we have looking for quality coaching over the last decade.
Atlanta might do the same thing with Quinn who is another good coach(at least in mine opinion). That’s why the last game of the season is vastly meaningful despite what the bandwagoners say. We need to crush the Falcoln and seal Quins fate and then watch them squirm and try to find a better HC!!!

Don’t forget too. The Bucs made this happen. We ended Cam career in Carolina. Ending his season back in week 2 directly led to this. That’s how you over take a division, proper.

Call it curse of the Redskins. Losing at home to a 2 win team was the final nail in the coffin. The Bucs DC meltdown in 2015 was probably what got Lovie fired a few years back as well….. Oh yeah, I guess you can make the argument that GMC jinxes his teams. Too bad the Bucs did not show up in London against this 10 loss team. Add that to the Giant, Titan and Seattle missed opportunities…..

I think Todd Bowles is an excellent defensive coordinator, but not a head coach (at least right now). My opinion is based on his Jets experience. I don’t think they would learn a lot for Bowles, because he builds the defense around the players. So, he can talk about strategy, but the details would be lacking.

Byron might get interviewed to meet the Rooney Rule, but he won’t get an HC job. And Arians will NOT replace him. No need to. For a first time OC, he hasn’t been doing so bad that he should be replaced.

I came home that day all dirty and smelly working for some meager peanuts to that P propping himself up!! He basically spit on fans on the way out in some creepy little passive way. Turned a bunch of us into haters on the way out. Myself included. So glad that bullspit artist don’t live in our community no more. Defientally is a better place without him.
Gotta admitt though. His smile can light up a room.

Dude their are coordinators out their that haven’t made blunders like this guy has made this year in 10 years. Btw Hardgraves is playing pretty good in Texas ( I wasn’t a fan) but BAchas had to step on Bowles way more than On would think and it wasn’t until he did that the d improved !!
Now Lefty May have a future but he needs to be demoted a tad for now !!

rivera will be the next HC of the NY Giants; he will get them to win the NFC East next year. Blank & Tepper are going to shoot high with a Lincoln Riley, Harbaugh or Urban Meyer type

Issac before you start to foam from the mouth over there realize that there have been more then a couple media’s question if there was something behind the scenes that led to Dean getting benched……..It would not surprise me to hear similar questions about Hargreaves here.
Secondly who cares if Hargreaves is playing OK in the slot in Houston? Did he make any INTs to seal a victory for them yet? Cause thats what our slot corner just did……Even if Bunting wasnt playing well I argue we still better off with him taking the reps and learning. No way in hell we we’re going to pay Vernon 10M to play slot next year. He was good as gone anyway. Why did you wanna pay him 10M? You’re probably alone in a corner if that’s your opinion.

Man we have the second best coach in the division, the best WR duo, the best pass rusher and the best QB in the division. The issue seems to be the young (but seem to be getting better) secondary, the oline and the running game. If we can keep this nucleus together next year and add some oline and maybe one veteran in the secondary along with a versitle running back next should be exciting. But forget that we have four games left this year, LETS DO THIS!!!!!!

This just magnifies the giant lost opportunity that was this season. Giants Seahawks and titans all winnable games with the difference of one play.
Falcons and Panthers in the dumps, even Brees was out for a few weeks. But we weren’t ready to take advantage.

It’s extremely surprising given the injuries and especially when you consider Rivera’s resume. He’s a good coach who will land on his feet somewhere.

Agree. Firing Rivera is a major mistake. He’s a winning HC, and has proved it. Problem is the new owner is still another financial greedball who thinks he knows it all. Just another reason why the fans should own the teams. Bowles has been burned once as a HC. He’s building a great defense here, and knows it. He’s not leaving anytime soon.
