Blame game.
Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians has taken heat this year for taking bullets for Mr. Excitement, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.
Arians has often claimed this pick or that pick was not Jameis’ fault, which just enrages those Bucs fans that cannot wait to help Jameis load a U-Haul.
So last weekend Joe ran across something interesting. In a pregame show for Penn State-Ohio State on FOX, Urban Meyer was talking about the relationship receivers must have with quarterbacks.
No, Meyer was never an NFL coach. But he is an accomplished coach, yes?
In this segment (which you can see below), Meyer claims “50 percent or more of the interceptions are the fault of the receiver.”
This got Joe’s antennae sticking straight up. Joe had never heard this before and since it was coming from a guy like Meyer, how BS could it be?
So last week when Arians held his Wednesday presser, Joe relayed to Arians’ the quote from Meyer and asked Arians for his reaction.
“I think that is a little high,” Arians chuckled. “I think probably that is a little high. Maybe [OK] for a college quarterback. I think for us, it’s probably 25 or 30 [percent].”
Joe would love to have the data Arians has to find out what percentage of picks are on Jameis this year and how many are on the receiver.
One thing Arians did not deny was Meyer’s contention that a receiver’s relationship with a quarterback is critical. Then, flashback to “Hard Knocks” where Jameis is going through a playbook while malcontent DeSean Jackson was playing cards.

So if thats true Jameis has 15 that is his fault, that is still high considering hes got 5 games to go.

Psychological deflection
The problem here is that now JW is believing his head coach that his int’s are not his fault so he will not change his game. Instead of tweaking his game to reduce int’s it will stay the same that’s why he will never get better in that dept.

All the more reason JW needed more playing time in pre-season games to develop chemistry with the receivers. One series and out does not cut it when you have a new system & coaching staff.

Chargers could bench Rivers after this game so he’d be available next season I’m positive. Sign this guy and draft a young QB to learn behind him for a season.

H8JWLveBucs … ‘Deflection’ on Joe’s part is a good word for it. One could also use the word ‘Begging’ though. EVERY QB in the NFL faces exactly the same problem. Sometimes a pick is the QB’s fault; sometimes it’s the receiver’s fault. And sometimes it’s just that the defender makes an incredible play.
FACT is that Jameis tosses the rock to 2 of the best receivers in the NFL in Evans & Godwin. And since they get the lion’s share of the targets, blaming them for Jameis’ INTs seems a little iffy.
FACT also is that the Bucs have played 75 games to date since we drafted Jameis (he started most but not all of those games). Bucs have turned the ball over 141 times in those 75 games … almost 2 TOs per game average. The Bucs have had a TURNOVER DIFFERENTIAL of MINUS 2 (or more) in 26 of those games (over one-third). Our record in those 26 games is 2 wins, 24 losses. Turnovers hurt, but multiple turnovers are killers.

I’ve been on the Hurts bandwagon for months. He is the prototypical QB for the new era of NFL. Size, strength and he can run. Also, he’s not a turnover machine like Winston.

So……Russell Wilson has 24 TDs & 3 Ints…….That would mean that Tyler Lockett
& DK Metcalf are far superior WRs to Evans & Godwin.
My point is that blaming receivers in general for Ints is a flawed argument.
There are cases where the WR makes an error but Jameis doesn’t see it and throws anyway.
I will excuse him if he throws the ball to a spot and the WR isn’t there.

So Phillip Rivers could be benched because he’s turned the ball over 7 times in 2 games?
I didn’t think that was a problem.
Certainly not in Tampa.
Doesn’t the HC know that all those picks couldn’t possibly be the the QB’s fault?
And isn’t he afraid of what benching him might do to his feelings?
He sounds like a big meany to me.

Well we could count the mistakes the WR’s make but then you’d have to count all the dropped interceptions thrown right to the opposing team. You can make excuses all day but at least factor in everything if you’re going to reach that far to make a point. Most of Winston’s Int’s were balls forced into players and a lot of those were into double coverage. He has to stop worrying if a player is getting his share of passes thrown their way and just hit the open guy no matter who it is. Seems to be better the last few games but we will see.

The actual % chance you have of winning in the NFL with a -2 turnover ratio is 21.95%. This is a FACT no some made of stat. I don’t care whether it’s Winston, the RB’s, the WR’s, the special teams etc….For the better part of the past 10 years this team turns the ball over and that DOES EQUAL LOSES in the NFL. The good teams that average over +1/+1.5 per game have a 76% chance of winning and average over 10 wins a season.

Ah, the Super Bowl for losers….the blame game. We’ve had nearly 70 games of Jameis Winston led Buccaneer football, and what does the record show…..
100 turnovers, 110 TD passes….that means that Winston is statistically nearly as likely to turn the ball over as he is to throw a TD.
A 5th year, “breakout” season completion % of 59.8%….Winston doesn’t even register on the NFL’s Top 50 passers in completion %.
A career QB Rating of 86.8…..and only 82.3 this season. This season so far, JW ranks 47th in overall QBR.
An overall W/L record of 25-42….a .373 winning %.
So is this a guy that deserves a long term contract extension? Is this a guy would pay $27mil to franchise tag? Couldn’t we get these kind of numbers from a rookie who would cost us a quarter of the money, and potentially have much more of an upside in the future?

Some of the fans on this site make no sense to me. Sign a guy (Rivers) who may be benched after this game. Great so we sign a guy who is not good enough for his team now and we dump a player who every week throws for 300 yards plus and has almost every record the Bucs have ( to be fair including INTs) and is young and has nothing but upside. No wonder we stink EVERY year.

@Easy, he’s climbing the ranks too….3 weeks ago he was considered a 3rd….going in the 1st now.
I’d love to address the D line or Safety with our 1st, but the way im feeling, Hurts and RT/LT Becton. Especially if we can bring back Suh, Barret and JPP. And our young DB’s are coming along…..Bowles knows his stuff.

IF JW did not have have SO MANY overthrows and underthrows a game for 66 games, one could argue more effectively receivers are equally or more to blame..
film doesn’t lie nor hide the truth… all his wild throws point to the majority of them being his fault whether from lack of accuracy, jittery from holding the ball to long, struggles to go throw his progression in a timely manner, inability to read defenses… he just isn’t a winner as far as NFL quality qb… he is just someone who can throw a ball and 50/50 at that… His receivers are the only reason he isn’t out of Tampa already!

Wow! 25 years old and own every Buc QB record. Six game 300 yard passing streak and top-3 in NFL in yards and TDs and so-called Bucs fans want to run him out of town. He has played with the worse defense of any three year period in NFL History, giving up over 30 points a game and you blame Jameis. Now it looks like the defense is turning the corner and I hear “draft a QB” “sign Bridgewaters or Rivers.” Jameis has handled adversity playing with this defense and can win games. Look at Goff and Wentz right now, looking like duds when their defense or running game suck. SMFH!

TERRIBLE ANALYSIS (like usual when trying to defend Winston’s poor play.)
IF this is true (no matter what % is the fault of WRs) then it’s the same for ALL QBs.
So even if all NFL INTs are ‘adjusted downward’ to remove all INTs that are WR’s fault, the turnover CORRELATION AVERAGE is still the same.
Meaning… if you remove the #2 and #3 INT leaders of Rivers and Mayfield (as Jameis is #1)…
Then it’s STILL a true statement to say Jameis Winston has thrown more than DOUBLE the INTs than all the other starting QBs in the NFL.
No matter how you spin it, with which ones are his fault or not, he would still lead the league and still be the Turnover King.

It’s a different league now. Passing records will continue to be broken by all teams.
Ryan Fitzpatrick, a journeyman QB now playing (and struggling with getting benched for them on and off) had MAJOR SUCCESS with this same Offensive scheme and most of the same personnel (he didn’t have Godwin starting, though, which would have made him better).
Yet Fitzpatrick in only 8 games played, had FOUR games of over 400 YARDS passing. So 50% of the games he started he threw for over 400+ yards. He also had 3 games of 4 TD passes!
Even at only 80% of the production that Fitzpatrick produced with this same Bucs Offense, he would easily break ALL BUCS RECORDS like Winston has.
Sooo…. for all the Jameis Lovers… tell us again how ‘special’ Jameis is and how no other QB can rack up passing yards and scoring?
Because that is… 100% FALSE.

The year Testaverde threw for 29 td’s and only 7 interceptions, he had Jets in AFC championship.
If Jameis can put together a year like that ( who gives a s..t about yards) Bucs will be in playoffs.

As usual Bucs “fans” acting like coaches. They know better cause they play Madden, watch another game with a QB on a winning team who they don’ Know, but like, and spend zero time designing, practicing, calling and evaluating every aspect of every play for every player. You know better. Preposterous. Go Bucs! PS…I saw Brady and Brees both throw jump passes last week…what’s the phrase that’s rolling like wildfire???oh yeah…bonehead. Again, go Bucs!

I just want to see the team turnaround by now. Jameis’ turnovers are a contributing factor to our suckage, especially on the defensive side of the ball.

Reading these posts I realize bucs fans have no idea what it takes to win or how a qb without a run game and poor defense will have a lot of turnovers.
