“He’s Balling”
November 29th, 2019This is starting to become a comedy act for Joe.
Joe is convinced America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, could cure cancer and the epitaph on his grave headstone would read “HE THREW INTERCEPTIONS.”
It is almost as if interceptions didn’t matter — until Jameis came into the league.
One of Jameis’ harshest critiques, Fran Tarkenton, once threw 32 picks in a season. But don’t you dare mention he is in the Hall of Fame. Different game, people will holler!
Or how about more modern times? Drew Bledsoe led the NFL in picks with 27 in 1994. Not only did his coach, Tuna Parcells, not bench him, not only did Tuna not cut him, but Tuna worked with Bledsoe who got the Patriots to a Super Bowl two seasons later.
The anti-Jameis crowd has a built-in excuse for every quarterback that throws picks… except for Jameis.
Geld him!
Look, Joe isn’t fond of turnovers either (fumbles drive Joe nuts and Joe has called out Jameis on sloppy, irresponsible ballhandling several times). Joe can live with turnovers if a quarterback is otherwise producing.
And Jameis is.
Another person who recognizes this is Nate Burleson of NFL Network. Closet Bucs fan and fellow co-host of “Good Morning Football,” Peter Schrager, uses the broken record “but he throws interceptions” as a reason to bench Jameis.
Burleson, in so many words, said if you can’t get past the interceptions, you can’t recognize Jameis is having a fantastic season.
Or as Burleson said in his own voice, “He’s balling.”
Jameis Winston is putting up huge numbers every week.

Give him $10M and use him as a bridge as we draft the future. Winston’s future is no where. Nobody wants him as a starter; too many problems. Let the bidding for backup QB begin! Too bad we don’t have Taysom Hill as our backkup.
November 29th, 2019 at 5:55 am
Typical holiday article when there is nothing to write about. There’s actually plenty to write about and Joe had a busy day ahead. Excellent TAMPA TWO episode today, too. –Joe His interceptions do matter and have cost us 3-4 games this year instead of looking at the playoffs we are looking at next years draft, yet again. This is all because of his turnovers. Nothing more to say Joe.
November 29th, 2019 at 6:19 am
5 years, no improvement, wont get better, crab legs, Uber…..GOODBYE!!!!!
November 29th, 2019 at 6:25 am
What 3-4 games this year did they cost us? For one thing that’s impossible to tell and another you have no idea what intersections were his fault. That’s just ridiculous. You can say if the offense played turnover free we may have had a chance to win a few more games.
Jameis signing for anyone at 10 million a year is also not realistic. I’m not against drafting a Qb in the 2-3 round next Year if the right one drops to us. But not necessarily to replace Jameis but It’d be good insurance.
November 29th, 2019 at 6:26 am
Meanwhile the Saints have clinched the division. And we’re about to fight for last place again.
But Fran Tarkinton right? Wins and losses Joe. Wins and losses. All that matters.
November 29th, 2019 at 6:28 am
BUT WHAT ABOUT DREW BLEDSOE!!!!!!!
November 29th, 2019 at 6:31 am
Fran Tarkenton threw 32 picks in the final season of his 18-year career in 1978.
To give you an idea how long ago that is — it was the first 16-game NFL regular season.
It was, in fact, a different game.
(Not hollering, though)
November 29th, 2019 at 6:38 am
“5 years, no improvement,”
Did you see MVP $30 milly Matty Ice under 1 year of Klueless Koetter
JWs 4years under Klueless, played twice as better than lost MVP Ryan
JW has unfortunately arrived in the NFL with 2 of the worst offensive turnover prone systems imagined
You haters should start your day with a moment of silence daily and ask for forgiveness.”

With a running game and defense from last Sunday Winston is welcome on my team as a starter.
Brad Johnson on the Super Bowl season threw an interception on all 3 playoff games. Bucs fans experience the ultimate feeling for a NFL fan…….. winning the SUPER BOWL!!!!!!!!!
Relax people! In Arians I Trust!!!!!!
November 29th, 2019 at 6:52 am
Frank tarkenton was at the end of his career when he threw all those picks lmao … drew bledsoe turned the ball over but he won games , he didn’t throw em away … jameis is not a consistent quarterback… he let Seattle back in the game we lost … we had San Fran won and he lost us that game … he got beat up in both saints games … he gave away the giants game … he made mistakes in the Carolina game in London we lost … he had a decent game against a weak ass falcons team woopdie doo … and now your trying to blow rainbows up our azzes… come on joe … your reading too much into the BS that’s out there … half these guys read the middle of the book and don’t see the whole movie
November 29th, 2019 at 7:10 am
Joe … I don’t know if you read the Twitter comments to those segments, but one struck me as being quite accurate … “Jamis is Brett Favre with worse decision making skills. Dude has the talent to win a game alone, but he’s also just as likely to throw it away”.
And therein lies the dilemma with Jameis. 3,391 passing yards after 11 games is very good (1 of only 4 QBs averaging over 300 YPG right now). 22 TDs after 11 games is very good (4th most in the NFL right now). 20 INTs after 11 games? Not so much. Combine that with 11 fumbles (play killers), of which we lost 4 of them (drive killers), and that’s 24 total giveaways in just 11 games.
As an individual, Jameis is averaging 1.8 INTs per game, by far the worst in the NFL. As a TEAM, Bucs are averaging 2.5 giveaways per game this year, also the worst in the league.
I doubt that anyone could look at Jameis’ stats this year without shaking their head. Tops in some categories; at the bottom of some others. For instance, Passing Attempts – 434 (4th most). Completions – 260 (5th most). Yards per Game – 308.3 (4th best). TDs – 22 (4th best).
But now look at the other side of the coin: Completion Percentage – 59.9% (ranked #33 – only one worse: Marcus Mariota). INTs – 20 (worst in the NFL by far). Sacks Taken – 36 (2nd most behind Matt Ryan’s 38). Passer Rating – 82.3 (ranked #29 in the NFL … Mayfield, Rudolph, Goff, Dalton, Fitzpatrick are the only ones rated lower).
Your article the other day called him schizophrenic I believe, implying disordered or erratic behavior? I prefer the word INCONSISTENT. That’s Jameis.
November 29th, 2019 at 7:13 am
There are 32 starting QB’s in this league and FAMOUS is a starter and I believe he is definitely in the top 15 maybe top 10 even….look at the numbers..production…leadership now and stop digging in the garbage can of the past!!!!
November 29th, 2019 at 7:27 am
We have 2 1k receivers and average 28 points. Dudes aren’t throwing the ball to themselves.
November 29th, 2019 at 7:28 am
Great points, Joe. I suppose the questions are, will he be able to cut back on them?– and will he have the chance in that horrid Bucs uniform?
November 29th, 2019 at 7:36 am
Did anybody watch the Atlanta game last night or last week vs us? Matt Ryan is throwing picks, fumbling the ball and can’t score points in the redzone. Man that looks familiar but it’s strange no one is saying that he is a turnover machine? Let’s see his team doesn’t run the ball well, his team can’t stop anyone and his offense is a vertical attacking style that requires great protection, which he doesn’t have…. Yeah I guess he became trash over the off season cause there is no possible way all the TOs could have anything to do with the others around him. GASP at that even being a possibility!!!!
Wake up people or as I like to say, get a CLUE
November 29th, 2019 at 7:40 am
He’s Balling! Ahh! Was that what his little “hassel” was with the uber driver? He was trying his “balling” skills?
So in the last four games some of the NFL network talking head says he was balling. What was our record during those four games? 2-2 last six games? 2-4 last eight games? 3-5 yes that sure does look like “balling” to me. Not!
WIN THREE GAMES IN A ROW AND HAVE ZERO TURNOVERS! THAT IS BALLING!! SHOW ME! Don’t talk about it do it!
If you can’t win please move on.
November 29th, 2019 at 7:46 am
Winston has a lot of baggage excluding football. He is not the type of person you want your kids to look up to. I know owners, coaches, and die hard bucs fans don’t care what hes done as long as he plays with duh football. But you add up the losses, ints, fumbles etc. etc. etc. Plus off field behavior, this is the guy you want as face of franchise. People are going to point out other players that have done bad things but we are talking about this losing franchise. Just because hes married and settled down doesn’t make it right.
November 29th, 2019 at 7:55 am
Yea, he’s ballin….just don’t pay any attention to those pesky INTs though. Don’t pay any attention to the TD/Int ratio though. Don’t pay attention to the Completion % though. Don’t pay attention to the Passer Rating though. And I’m talkin stats this season and avg throughout his career.
Yea, he’s ballin alright. He’s Mr. You-don-know-which-Jameis-is-showin-up-on-Sunday ballin!
Nate Burleson was laughing when he was challenged on his proclamation. Don’t get all caught up with talking heads defending Jameis. They have to stoke the flames to keep things interesting. Kind of like what’s going on here.
NDog,
Matt Ryan is crap. If it makes you feel better to compare Jameis to crap, you be ballin!
November 29th, 2019 at 7:59 am
Lazy or illiterate people say things like, “he’s balling” to describe a person who is doing well.
Fran Tarkenton was a joke. Four SBs, four losses. But Jameis isn’t even in his league.
How many playoff games has Balling Jameis played in?
Statistics are for losers. Losers who throw games to have a better 1st round pick. If Jameis threw 45 picks but won the SB, he’d be “balling.”
Let’s don’t forget, Trent Dilfer won more SBs than Tarkenton, Marino and Jim Kelly combined.
November 29th, 2019 at 8:01 am
When a starting QB has more turnovers than TD passes in a season, something very bad is going on. Not to mention this year he is locking in on one reciever and not seeing or looking at open guys.
Winston has played under pass-happy coaches with the Bucs. He has always thrown the ball too many times in games, hence the large turnover numbers and overinflated yardage numbers. Best thing is run the ball more to get the ball out of Winston’s hands to limit his mistakes
November 29th, 2019 at 8:06 am
I was a JW skeptic when he was drafted cos of the off-field antics. His stuff is lightweight compared to the negative crap Ray Lewis and Randy Moss pulled. Both now are HOFamers. What kind of QB and team would he and the Bucs be if they had a halfway decent HCoaching staff that was around for longer than 2 years? These final 5 games will provide some answers. (Unfortunately, we’re stuck with ownership, but them’s the breaks. 🙁 )
November 29th, 2019 at 8:18 am
Lamp was he crap two years ago when he won the MVP and was playing in the Superbowl?
November 29th, 2019 at 8:19 am
I just pulled this from the Atlanta Falcons SBNATION site does it sound familiar?
“Dirk Koetter has to go. I appreciate that he did some fine work with Matt Ryan in the post-Mularkey era but there’s no way this offense should get another year, not when Koetter is out here wasting downs like the Falcons can afford to do so. Considering their defense is missing so many plays and their kicking woes are ongoing, the offense can’t be a problem. It just can’t, and the Falcons can’t keep calling so many unproductive runs. The Falcons find themselves in holes they just can’t dig out of, and Koetter’s inability to make necessary changes on the fly leave the Falcons struggling again and again.”
November 29th, 2019 at 8:23 am
Love it when the trolls get trolled
November 29th, 2019 at 8:35 am
Ndog,
What does 2 years ago have to do with this season and all the other seasons he hasn’t played in a SB? Dilfer and Flacco won SBs. But on another note, I guess you can’t even compare Winston to Ryan because Ryan has actually shown that he can ball.
Look at the top 5 QBs in passing this season. They are all slightly above .500 or very low in win %. Dak has a pretty great RB and an above average D. Oh, I thought the problem was not having a balanced attack, no running game, avg. OL, a sieve of a D? With all of Winston’s TOs, we want to point to the Yards. Why’s that? What does it mean? You have to look at the QBs after top 5, to see winning, playoff-bound QBs. Yards, which can be garbage yards or YAC from a great WR(s), don’t automatically mean a great QB.
Can you pay someone 12M+ not knowing if he’s going to play consistently well? BA, himself, said normally you don’t win games with 2 early TOs. The defense bailed out Jameis last week. This young secondary can turn things around in season. We got Winston trying for 5 years.
November 29th, 2019 at 8:35 am
How are you going to pay for The Human turnover machine????
And keep the good players who’s payday’s are coming up!!! Are you going to let Godwin , Shaq or JPP and others walk so you can keep repetitive tired fantasy alive that #3 will some day get woke and protect the football and not make stupid
mistakes that cost us football games ??? TIME TO WAKE UP JOE!!!!
November 29th, 2019 at 8:40 am
*top 5 QBS in passing YARDS this season….
November 29th, 2019 at 8:44 am
Nate Burleson or Peter Schrager? Which one do I trust to evaluate a football player? How many of JWs career turnovers were in garbage time with us down by 20 and him never giving up and trying to make a play. How many fumbles as he is being hit from behind or strip sacked as he was throwing? Ndog, quit with your stupid facts and logic. Those don’t matter in this generation.
November 29th, 2019 at 8:48 am
The INT”s aren’t the only reason….although they are a huge issue. In Winston’s 5th year, he isn’t even completing 60% of his passes! There are guys with less talent at WR and TE than we have, who are completing near or over 70% of their passes!
JAMEIS DOESN’T EVEN SHOW UP IN THE NFL TOP 50 IN COMPLETION %! That means there are BACKUP QB’s who are completing more passes (and way fewer turnovers) than JW! And some of you want to give this guy a long term deal and $30mil a year? Are you NUTS?????
November 29th, 2019 at 8:50 am
Any year after the Mel Blunt rule was implemented was a year conducive to passing the football.
All this different game nonsense is exactly that. Nonsense.
And for the 5 years and he hasn’t improved crowd, how is being 2nd in passing yards and 3rd in Passing touchdowns, leading the 3rd best scoring offense in the league not improvement?
Give Jameis an average defense and we’ll contend every year. Evidenced by the one year we had one, we went 9-7 and missed the postseason due to tiebreakers.
November 29th, 2019 at 8:55 am
They will not replace #3 until a better qb is available… He is here to stay… Maybe BA can tame him in the next year or two… Get used to it double digit IQ haters…
November 29th, 2019 at 9:04 am
Jeagan,Keagan, this ain’t a dink and dunk offense. it’s an offense that pushes the ball down field. Perriman and Miller both have less than a 50 percent catch rate.
OJ’s had the dropsies all year, 2 of his most egregious led to easy picks for the other team, and even Mikey has dropped several balls that hit him square in the hands
Do you even watch the games or do you just check the box score?
November 29th, 2019 at 9:11 am
Joe, 1994 is hardly modern times. 99.9% of the people in the world didn’t know what the internet was and you likely had a beeper so your editor-in-chief could contact you about your deadline story.
Besides, Bledsoe was a mediocre QB kinda like Jay-Miss.
November 29th, 2019 at 9:25 am
Well Lamb you really boxed yourself in there sir. Two years ago Ryan had an offense that was from this decade and look at his numbers and results, that’s the point there. And the Cowboys they have exactly one more win than us with an elite oline and elite running back. So I’m not sure what your point is? Every point you made is 100% wrong from any angle you look at it.
November 29th, 2019 at 9:28 am
Apparently I’m the ONLY one watching the whole game, awsucs! The JW homers only see what they want to see…thru rose colored glasses.
They don’t see a guy…who was supposed to be enjoying his “breakout year” 5th season who is 33rd in the league in QB rating!
They also don’t see a guy who can’t even complete 60% of his passes…..or crack the top 50 in Completion%
They certainly don’t see a guy who leads the league in turnovers this year, and for the last 5 seasons!
Or who has the worst TD/Turnover ratio since he entered the league. In fact, with 110 career TD passes and 100 career turnovers, Winston is statistically nearly as likely to turn the ball over, as he is to throw a TD pass! That instills confidence, doesn’t it?
November 29th, 2019 at 9:47 am
Jeagan how many of those TOs come in predictable situations where the defense knows what we have to do? Look at Dak and Ryan last night when they became predictable it’s fumbles and interceptions glore. Well guess what that is what Jameis has had his entire career due to basically no running game and a horrid defense. It is really simple you ask any QB to throw the ball 65% of the time and need to score 30 points a game you are going to have TOs. We just happened to do that more than any other team therefore more TOs is really isn’t that hard.
November 29th, 2019 at 9:56 am
Ndog stop trying to use logic to defend Winston, it just falls on deaf ears. Just agree to disagree with the Winston critics. I’ll say it one more time if you put Winston on a complete team ( by that I mean a team with a defense and a kicking game and a decent Oline) Winston would thrive. Just my opinion.
November 29th, 2019 at 9:59 am
There’s throwing interceptions caused by good defensive play and then there’s throw it right to the defender interceptions. If Jameis would stop doing the latter so often, it wouldn’t be as big a deal.
November 29th, 2019 at 10:17 am
What you dont understand is I do see all of that.
I also see a 25 year old Qb who is leading the 3rd most prolific scoring offense in the league despite all of that. Ahead of the Chiefs and Patriots.
His 1st year in a new scheme no less. I’m not looking forward to throwing that away. I’m sure youd rather have Mike Glennon or Josh McCown but not me.
November 29th, 2019 at 10:25 am
Marry Ice is checked out and probably retiring in the next couple of years. Family man that wants to spend more time with his family. He is also playing on a bad wheel fools.
November 29th, 2019 at 10:30 am
Ndog, this organization has had 5 seasons to build a winner around this QB….they haven’t done it. Is the problem all Jameis Winston? No. I don’t trust Jason Licht as a talent evaluator or team builder, and he needs to go too! But Winston’s body of work so far shows what he is…..inaccurate (completing less than 60% of his passes….not even in the top 50 passers this season) ….turnover prone (100 turnovers in 5 seasons….more than any other QB in recent history) ….and with a history of poor decision making on the field and off (he just tries to make throws he shouldn’t). Statistically, Winston is as likely to turn the ball over, as he is to throw a TD pass….that’s just not acceptable on a team with a lack of elite talent like the Bucs.
So do we spend what little cap space we have on retaining a QB who is as likely to help the other team score as his team? Or do we extend some guys like Barrett and Godwin…sign a couple of quality offensive linemen with the cap money left over…..then in the draft let Arians draft a good young QB like Burrow, Hurts or Herbert and a RB (like JK Dobbins) or two, and spend the rest of the draft trying to shore up the secondary.
In my opinion, the latter offers the better path to get this team back to being competitive again….quickly. I’m sorry Winston hasn’t worked out, but I’m not willing to double down on a guy who has likely reached his ceiling. It just doesn’t make financial sense.
November 29th, 2019 at 10:38 am
Awsucs, I understand that a QB who is inaccurate, turnover prone, and makes poor decisions, probably does not win more than 6 or 7 games a season in the NFL.
So, shall we go over the Bucs record the last 5 years and see which of us is right?
I thought not.
November 29th, 2019 at 10:49 am
As inept as Licht is, he is smarter than the average Joe Bucs poster. Jameis back for 5 years $100 million. Bucs in Super Bowl once the OLine is fixed.
November 29th, 2019 at 11:12 am
as the leader in bad football decisions in their existence, the Bucs will top all of them by signing a PROVEN BAD QB to BIG money….
November 29th, 2019 at 11:15 am
If you look beyond you’re bias you’ll see that I’m right Jeagan.
As the one time in the last 5 years that we had a semi respectable defense, this team was 9-7 and just barely missed the playoffs.
Funny how we managed to do that we Jameis at QB… considering your assertion that its impossible to win with him…
November 29th, 2019 at 11:16 am
Your*
November 29th, 2019 at 11:16 am
The only type of “analysts” that may think Jameis is “ballin” this season are FANTASY FOOTBALL STAT WATCHERS.
So many around the NFL just look at Box Scores and didn’t actually watch the game itself.
Football Success is about putting your team into position to WIN. Jameis Winston rarely does that. He often sucks it up in the First Half when the game is most important, turning it over early, and giving opposing teams great starting Field Position for them to score early points, build momentum, and giving them a mathematical advantage for the rest of the game.
This isn’t a “Conspiracy Theory” about Jameis and the “Garbage Time” stats. It’s a fact. In so many games he majority of his 300+ yards passing for a game (and quite a few of this TD passes) come late in games when the team is already down by 2+ scores and the opposing Defensei is in “bend but don’t break” mode giving up easier passing plays in front of them to try and run out of the clock to secure the win.
Jameis certainly HAS had a few solid games where he played well in the first half, but those are rare. He has far more games when most of his yards come in the 2nd half of games playing “catch up.”
How often have you seen Jameis march down the field on an opening drive and score a TD before our Defense even takes the field? Hardly ever.
TIME TO GO, JAMEIS.
November 29th, 2019 at 11:30 am
“LOL
Its very simple
NO Running game or anything needed
GIVE JW TIME, Bucs will start winning
thats it. dont even need 1 rush
GIVE HIM A COMPETENT OLINE AND TIME
and instantly the Bucs start winning
That is all you need to know”
Kobe Faker
November 29th, 2019 at 11:51 am
lambchop Says:
“BA, himself, said normally you don’t win games with 2 early TOs. The defense bailed out Jameis last week.”
As a Noles fan I can tell you that happened quite a bit at FSU too…if everyone remembers correctly.
November 29th, 2019 at 11:57 am
Let’s be clear the defenses job is to stop the other team from scoring points. The offenses job is to score points. It would be easier to score points if we got some short fields but is that happening? Not very often so in a way you could say that the offense has been bailing out the defense cause they are allowing a ton of points and also not setting up the offense with short fields. You don’t seem to get that it all work together.
November 29th, 2019 at 12:02 pm
Not in a position to win, well we have won four games and had the lead in the 4th quarter vs the Giants and Titans and were tied in the 4th with the Seahawks. So that means we were in position to win 7 of our 11 games and of the remaining 4, 3 of those games were vs the 49ers and Saints who are better than us across the board. And all four of the losses were games were our oline was dominated. Bandit you are reaching like usual.
November 29th, 2019 at 12:13 pm
And he will be ballin here next year!
November 29th, 2019 at 12:30 pm
Ndog,
I’m not reaching at all. You just always give Winston way more credit than he actually deserves. As I have stated he definitely HAS had some good complete games AND has had solid moments in parts of some games, BUT…
He’s so inconsistent with his play. And so many times he’s just…. well…. really bad. He’s consistent in the turnover department, just like Cutler was. The difference with Cutler (and why he was given so many chances) was he had least pulled out quite a few wins on his own several times.
When you take Winston’s entire “Body Of Work” over now his 5th Season, he’s just not worth $27M+ which is what it will cost to keep him either on a franchise tag or an extension.
No way in hell is Jameis Winston worth $27M+ a year. NO WAY.
We can sign a much cheaper alternative and also develop a rookie QB for the future for much less. So much less we can use the difference to sign a Top Corner in free agency, as well as add some other valuable pieces to this team.
Time for Jameis to walk the plank.
November 29th, 2019 at 12:35 pm
I’m more interested in hearing what dumb ass Phil Simms has to say.
November 29th, 2019 at 12:38 pm
Awsucs, the only bias here is yours….especially if you want to try and claim that a career record of 25-42 somehow constitutes “winning” with Jameis!
Wow, have we sank so low as an organization that the desperate fanbase will cling to mediocrity and try to claim its greatness? I feel sorry for us all.
And since the form of delusion you are under is unlikely to be swayed by anything resembling logic, I will refrain from further argument and take a page from Abraham Lincoln’s book….”never argue with an idiot, they will inevitably find a way to bring the argument down to their level, and then beat you with experience!”
November 29th, 2019 at 12:50 pm
Jameis has been in the nfl for 5 years. Why do they keep babying this guy. He is married got a family. He should be grown up now and not spending half the time on the sidelines whinning. Next year will be more of the same. If your satisfied with not going too the playoffs year after year then by all means bring him back.
November 29th, 2019 at 1:16 pm
Bandit you just will never understand, so time to move on from you. Bye now
November 29th, 2019 at 1:41 pm
What a simplistic, idiotic article. It isn’t the number of interceptions that matter, it’s the impact those interceptions have on the games. JW throws picks at the absolute worst times.
If he just threw picks like he did last week (early) and the D held the opponent to no more than one TD, we wouldn’t be complains about the number of picks. But he doesn’t. He throws the back breaking picks late in the game, deep in Bucs’ territory, when the D is tired.
Most of us here wouldn’t give a rat’s ass if he threw 3 picks every game if he had a couple of winning seasons and a couple of playoff victories.
It’s about winning. JW hasn’t demonstrated his ability to do that consistently.
November 29th, 2019 at 1:49 pm
I’m not going to make any excuses for the ints by Jameis; it’s his job as the QB to take care of the football and manage the football game…
That said, at least 4 or 5 of those ints were due to miscommunication with him and his receivers…I also still believe that we’re asking him to throw the football to much…I’m not exactly sure of the numbers but I’m willing to bet that not to many QBs in NFL history, if any have thrown more passes than Jameis by 25; under those circumstances how can anyone expect him not to throw picks; he’s young and fearless…Coupled with the fact that for his entire career for the most part our defense has been pretty bad…
Jameis is the ultimate competitor, and he’s a gunslinger by nature… Imagine being a young QB that knows you don’t have a defense, a kicker, or a running game to lean on…We put so much on this kids plate way too soon which resulted in him maybe picking up some bad habits the now have to be coaches out of him…That being said, I still believe he can take us to the playoffs and a Superbowl..
November 29th, 2019 at 2:01 pm
I’ve never seen so many excuses for a bad QB! He’s inaccurate, locks onto main receiver and has gotten increased “happy feet” this year it seems.
November 29th, 2019 at 2:26 pm
Ndog,
No surprise you never you actually reply with any sort of substance or FACTS or data to back up your Jameis-Love.
You just so often reply with, “You…you… you… you just don’t understand football!” Or… “You’re just a troll!” Or… “Those INTs aren’t even Jameis’ fault!” Or… “We just need a a better Defense.. and better running game… and better !”
You got NOTHING, bro.
The reality of the situation is simply that Winston is consistently inconsistent. And he’s a bad decision maker. And he hasn’t improved over FIVE YEARS in the league. He is what he is.

“Give him $10M and use him as a bridge as we draft the future. Winston’s future is no where.”
Totally unrealistic…but that’s the point, isn’t it? You want him gone, so you would not be serious about signing him.
That’s alright though…most want him gone.
My stance is this:
Offer him 3 years, $63 million, loaded with incentives and guarantee only the first year if possible, and two years max. The contract looks big, but the incentives will bring it down substantially. Say, for example, subtract $200,000 for every pick he throws and every lost fumble.
The picks alone, using this year as an example, would reduce his yearly from $21m to $17m.
That would give him more incentive to throw fewer picks.
It would be a good deal for the Bucs, and give him a chance to earn more. If he throws fewer picks, he is certainly worth the money.
But still, iI am in favor of drafting a young guy as a fallback plan, just not in round 1.

Just curious, but what’s it matter to you?
ndog likes Jameis. Nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong with disliking him either. We’re all in this together.
In the end, it is better if Jameis does well, because that means we get our money’s worth. Abd besides, we need a RT very badly or no QB will do well.

Oh shut up with the the comparisons to hall of famers
It’s f u c k i n g tired and stupid
If your going I compare him at all you can ONLY compare his first 5 years and whoever the hell else’s first five. Enough cherry picking from hall of famers whole body of work over a career and acting like that’s somehow comparable to what Jameis has put out.
He is what he is, a wildly inconsistent and largely inaccurate deep ball passer who runs hot and cold from week to week. Nothing more nothing less. No accolades to speak of other than a reserve Pro Bowl entry. So stop acting like your blind.

Jeagan. Outside of 2016 we’ve had defenses that were flat out awful.
Jameis has proven that he’s capable of winning games with an average defense.
You’re far more biased than I am with this subject because you refuse to acknowledge the positives that Jameis provides. Such as the fact I’ve repeated numerous times that, in his first year playing in BA’s scheme, he’s leading the 3rd ranked scoring offense.
The other 4 teams in the top 5 are as follows in order. Ravens, 49ers, Cheifs, and Patriots. It’s no coincidence that the team with the 31st ranked scoring defense, the Bucs, is the only team with a losing record.
November 29th, 2019 at 3:19 pm
No we are the only losers in the bunch because of our turnover rate
Stop acting like you don’t know Freeman 2.0 has thrown 20 interceptions
“Oh but it’s not his fault”
It never is, and I’ll tell you like I told all the Freemanites including Joe for years before Josh finally flamed out.
Denial is a b i t c h
He’ll be gone soon enough, enjoy Jekyll/Hyde while he lasts.

I seem to recall alot of talk about we can’t win with the 4best QB in our division. Haven’t heard that for a while now! Lol!
November 29th, 2019 at 3:23 pm
Cause we have won a lot with the 4th best QB in the division?
Oh that’s right, we haven’t

Schrager said it all

What facts do you want Bandit, #2 in passing yards, #3 scoring offense in the league with no running game, #2 in the league in TD passes? Those are all facts that cannot be refuted but you refuse to acknowledge them because they prove you ARE CLUELESS, which we all already know. By the way in 2001 Kurt Warner won the MVP with 22 picks but Jameis will be trash being in the same neighborhood with all the stats you could want. Want more, we have a QB on our team that could, in his first year in an offense, lead the league in both passing yards AND TDs yet some people that have no clue about football want to get rid of him.
Hows that for FACTS!!!!????
November 29th, 2019 at 4:19 pm
BTW the best QB in this division right now is Jameis Winston hands down. It’s not even close really.
November 29th, 2019 at 5:43 pm
Ndog,
Warner won MVP because of the WINS he generated.
#2 in passing yards and #3 in scoring offense. Impressive. But how does he rank against the league during the FIRST HALF of games when those stats matter the most?
HERE’S A STAT FOR YOU…
The Bucs rank (2nd to last) #31 in the entire NFL for “Starting Field Position” for their opponents. A stat that’s dominated by the worst teams in the league… Miami, Washington, Jets, etc.
A stat that’s typically because a team CAN’T move the ball much on Offense. So if we’re the #3 Scoring Offense, and Jameis is #2 in Passing Yards…
The WHY do you think we rank so badly?
SPOILER ALERT: Jameis’ turnovers.
I’ve been saying this all season.
FUNDAMENTALS OF FOOTBALL…
Consistently one of the top predictors of who wins a football game is STARTING FIELD POSITION and certainly the NET DIFFERENTIAL between the two teams for SFP for that game.
This PROVES that Jameis is liability and contributes far more to losses than you realize.
November 29th, 2019 at 5:47 pm
Yup Pr. Having a defense giving up 30+ points per game has nothing to do with it bud. You keep right on ahead believing that. Btw I was never sold on Freeman. Nor am I an FSU fan.
November 29th, 2019 at 6:12 pm
Bucsbandit, I seem to recall the defense giving up numerous 85+ yard touchdown drives.
Yes Jameis’ turnovers on our side of the 50 has negatively effected the average starting field position. Theres no disputing that.
But to sit here and pretend that the defense, specifically the secondary, has not been inept for the majority of the year is both disingenuous and wrong.
November 29th, 2019 at 6:17 pm
Case and point, If short fields due to turnovers were the primary reason for the teams defensive woes, why are we also the 31st ranked defense in passing yards per game? Giving up 289 yards through the air per contest?
Clearly Jameis’ isnt the culprit for that stat…
November 29th, 2019 at 7:35 pm
Joe’s sarcasm doesn’t change facts:
Yesterday’s games:
Bears vs Lions- turnovers even, close game
Bills vs Cowboys- Bills win turnovers battle 2-0 and win game handily
Falcons vs Saints- despite Falcons getting the worshipped 300 yds passing, Saints win turnovers battle 3-0 and win game handily
Keep your heads in the sand, ostrich deniers- winning or losing turnovers battle is a MAJOR factor in who wins.
November 29th, 2019 at 8:01 pm
Correct Alan our defense doesn’t generate nearly enough TOs.
November 29th, 2019 at 9:43 pm
AwshBucs,
It’s been stated 1,000,000+ times that no one is claiming that the Bucs losses are ALL Jameis’ fault. So that’s a terrible ‘strawman’ position.
But to think that…
A) Jameis’ turnover problems don’t contribute to those losses, and…
B) That there aren’t several half-decent QBs that could do much of what Jameis does AND protect the football better… (leading to more wins)…
Well, that’s just IDIOTIC.
November 29th, 2019 at 9:45 pm
Ndog,
You’re 100% RIGHT!
Our Defense doesn’t generate nearly enough turnovers…
Jamel Dean would need to make about 3 INTs PER GAME to make up for Jameis’ turnover problems.
He’d be in the Hall Of Fame in one season. Can’t wait for that!
November 29th, 2019 at 9:52 pm
Bandit only two players on this team have HOF type #’s and that is Mike Evans and Jameis Winston. If both of these players keep playing for the next 10 years or so they will be in the area of all time players with stats. I know you are going to laugh but I am 100% serious both of these guys at their age are on a all time #’s pace and that cannot be argued. I know what you are going to say but you know I mean yards, TDs etc…
November 29th, 2019 at 9:57 pm
Never said that Jameis’ turnovers dont matter or that they dont hurt the team. But I watch these games every single week, and yes Jameis has single handedly lost several games in his career all by himself ala the Carolina game, and that has to stop.
However, what I’ve seen occur far more frequently is the kid putting this team in position to win at the end of games, only to see a horrendous pass defense choke away a lead in the final minutes, and in the rare instances where the defense mans up, we win games.
1. The vast majority of Jameis’ worst games occur when the Oline has a poor showing and he is hit in the double digits.
November 29th, 2019 at 10:05 pm
Ndog-
You are 1/2 right – the Bucs rank 5th in fumble recoveries, but 25 th in interceptions (takeaways).
But c’mon, Bucs lead league in interceptions (giveaways)- not all Jameis’ fault, but it’s the one major flaw in his game that cost us 3-4 wins every year
November 29th, 2019 at 10:27 pm
But c’mon, Bucs lead league in interceptions (giveaways)- not all Jameis’ fault, but it’s the one major flaw in his game that cost us 3-4 wins every year
This is just simply ridiculous, 3-4 games a year ok sure bud.
Again even this year he hasn’t had even one game where that is the case. 9ers game OJ and Barber were the cause of two of the TOs and the Panthers game Evans sat and waited for a ball that caused a pick, his arm got hit on one, Evans didn’t look for the ball on one and the fumble and pick to Godwin were on Jameis. So I’m not quite sure you can blame him for that loss when there were so many mistakes by everyone on the offense. But I know I know that stats say they were all his fault so like a robot you think it must be true.
November 29th, 2019 at 10:39 pm
Ok, Ndog, I get it- Jameis is your guy no matter what.
I want Bucs to win and if we have a dominant D like last week every week, we can overcome maybe 2 TO’s per game. But not against other teams with dominant D.
But they’re never making playoffs leading league in interceptions in today’s NFL and the QB is Jameis Winston, so either the picks come down or the QB needs changing.
I’m for the picks coming down.
November 29th, 2019 at 10:46 pm
I have no guy I just like people being fair and realistic. We lost to the Giants this year when our QB had a 4-1 TO ratio, we lost at NO when he had a 2-0 TO ratio, we lost to Tenn cause our center snapped the ball to early and we had guys running wrong routes all day. We lost to Seattle when he had a 2-1 TO ratio a the one was when it got his arm hit while he was throwing. These are all FACTS yet he gets blamed for everything, it’s ridiculous.
November 29th, 2019 at 10:54 pm
Ndog-
Jameis doesn’t get blamed for bad secondary or bad OLine play or missed kicks or dropped passes or bad routes.
Just cut the picks and fumbles in 1/2 and he gets the multi year deal… and Bucs get a few more wins.
