Picks Are Always Better
November 26th, 2019The much-maligned Bucs secondary suddenly had an epiphany Sunday and, facing two of the most dangerous pair of receivers in the NFL, all but shut them down to help record a win.
The Bucs had 16 passes defended against the Dixie Chicks. Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians would prefer that number to be lower — and the number of picks the Bucs got a bit higher.
“I’d like to have seen 12 and four interceptions, because we dropped four right in our hands,” Arians said. “We should put them all on the JUGS [machines] next week. But, yeah, we were tight coverage. They studied it, they knew what was happening [and] they were anticipating, maybe for the first time that I saw. [The] young guys – they knew what was coming and they played it well.”
“I can’t believe Lavonte [David] dropped his [potential pick]. I think he saw himself in the end zone before he caught it, because that was just pick-six all the way and he’s got great hands.
“Other guys are DBs for a reason. If they could really catch, they’d be wideouts, so they have to work at it harder.”
It’s sort of hard to believe here were so many picks dropped. Joe has seen these guys work on the JUGS gun. Guess there is a big difference between a ball rocketing out of a machine and the real thing.
It is difficult to believe the Bucs will continue to defend so many passes each week. That’s why it is critical to haul those passes in.
Could Sunday be the turning point for this secondary? We can only hope.

Could Sunday be the turning point for this secondary? We can only hope.
Or will they prove it was merely just another meaningless win against another bad team

Falcons dropped a few picks too fortunately. D looked really good… want to see them continue to improve.

A win is great, but Joe we played one of the worst teams in the league ?? Yes exciting to see Vita, Dean, and the LB from Lsboo playing better, but those two pics against a good team would have buried the chances of winning that game.. I liked how he bounced back, but couldn’t against the Saints and others and we are going to sign him for 20 million a year ? So scary

no i think the cardinals game was the turning point… that is when they started to figure it out …. look everyone this team is getting better!! for the first time in years we have players that are progressing!! that means you have gotten better coaching people!! i know it has been a long time but be patient this is the right coaching staff for the job!!….. Winston can be kept only on a franchise tag or an EXTREMELY team friendly deal that is only based on accomplishments! if he wants to stay a buc that is what he needs to accept! he dug his own contract with all those turn overs!!!!….. they need o-line help and i think they can find a cheaper edge rusher or DT than suh … the guy has done an excellent job this year but he doesn’t give you that edge anymore like he used to…. they for sure need to keep barret and jpp!!… i think jpp is the sole reason this team looks to be improving!! he is that vet presence they needed! he was the one in the locker room telling them it is not OK to lose!! you have to believe you can win or these guys do not want to risk losing their riches for an injury for a loser team!! jpp dont play that crap tho and he started calling people out by name!! they need him in that locker room

When we can go to LA & win…..when we can go to Seattle & force OT…..we have the makings of a very competitive team.
Focus on this…..4 of our 7 losses came to teams with a 37-7 record.
We lost a game by missing a chip shot….and gave one away to Tenn with 2 TOs in the red zone….
We are not really that bad……but we are bad.

Actually 28-5…..I counted NO twice….

Bunch of 1st and 2nd year guys playing in the secondary so drops not that surprising. It’s a good sign of a developing defense as you always hear ‘when the D gets good, TOs come in bunches.’ LVD is such a good player, he’s allowed a drop once in a blue moon, too. And all the crap about the Chicks being such a bad team……… what a load of flatulence. They kicked the snot out of Sean Payton in NOLA. Beat the Panthers in the next game. It wouldn’t surprise me to see them sweep NOLA. Always pleased to see the smirk wiped off Payton’s face.

Agree totally with your assessment. There was IMHO only two games where there was no doubt…the opposition was CLEARLY better than us…both N.O. games.
And so I do not view us that far away from becoming consistently competitive. However we need to add something..somewhere to bridge the current gap in talent.
I’m not sure where or how much until I see the remaining five games…especially re our defensive backs.
